    I would LOVE a comparison video of WHW and GGW! Im looking at doing 1 (maybe both?) as my first long trek. I loved your WHW videos and would really enjoyed this one as well! ❤

      Ive done both in 10 days WHW is way better, GGW was also nice but you dont actually see much of the lake! Also Loch Lomond is the king of lakes here in Scotland. Some of the climnb on GGW were harder the on WHW which was surprising lol...anyway if you just want to do one when WHW all the way!

    My Friend and I just completed this in two on mountain bikes, we went the opposite way Inverness - Fort William, staying over at Fort Augustus for a night we may have passed you. Have been really enjoying you vlogs along the WHW and now the GGW, and i agree, Scotland would welcome you, always nice to add to the population that appreciate what we have here. :)

    I’m from the UK, Wales, and am currently in Scotland and have been coming here since the late 80’s. I’ve never even heard of the Great Glen Way, so thank you for enlightening me! It looks more appealing than the WHW, perfect for camping at the edge of the loch, an early morning dip perhaps. It’s funny how somewhere grabs you, that feeling you get. For me, having lived there since 2006, it’s Vancouver island, the place I feel right. Looking forward to seeing more of your travels. 🙏

      Yes we LOVED the Great Glen Way. So beautiful, peaceful, and just had this energy about it...Vancouver Island is magical! We love it there too. We used to 'live across the water' in Port Townsend. We try to visit BC at least once a year as it is breathtaking.

    Yes a comparison would be great. As an older person who has been sedentary with arthritis I wonder if doing six mile increments and planning is reasonable. Is there lodging to plan that or could an Uber pick up be possible if the undertaking is too much?

    • @rixubishi
      @rixubishi Год назад +2

      Hi Beverly. I am Scottish and for someone with your condition I would recommend the Fife Coastal Path, as Uber is confined to the major cities in Scotland.
      The FCP's a 117 mile trek, and passes through Fife's fishing villages. There is lots of accommodation en route, regular bus services, taxis etc. It's a criminally overlooked walk, as there is a lot of history including the Wemyss caves, which contain Pictish cave art, and it takes you under the Forth Bridges and through some beautiful coastal towns and villages, including Anstruther (home of arguably the most famous and one of the best fish and chip shops in Scotland), St. Andrews (home of golf), Culross (home of the TV series Outlander, although the residents aren't too happy with the massive increase in bus tours these days, as I live nearby).
      I hope this helps.

I like solitude & enjoyed going solo but it was reassuring to know there were others passing me on the other trail. Thanks for this one. Feel sorry for your feet/ankle, Crystal. So glad I'm already well used to walking miles many days each week.

    Love your videos.. just a question, what are the best shoes for trail ?? .. thank you ☺️

    • @vanhallaadventures
      @vanhallaadventures  Год назад +1

      Hi Marie :) Thank you! I have found that everyone is different BUT most people tend to like Hoka's and Altra trail shoes. I have both but I always use my Altra's now as they have a wide toe box so I can wrap my feet in moleskin to prevent blisters and have plenty of room without my toes getting squished. They are zero drop shoes and that doesn't work well for me so I put in some insoles for more arch support and really like that. I would say the best shoes are ones that you can walk comfortably everyday for several miles. If you are in the USA, I would go to REI and purchase a pair and try them out for 3-4 days of consistent walking and see how you feel. REI allows for returns even after they are worn which is really nice. If you are not in the USA I would contact a place in your area that allows this same sort of thing so you know you have the perfect shoes for your trek! Scotland does rain though even when it rained I used my non-waterproof altra's BUT I think if I was going in Fall or Spring I mighgt use waterproof ones. Hope this helps!

    Interesting how you were talking about giving back to the land, then later on you noticed that you lost your sunglasses from Hawaii when you did your business. The next person who finds it might return it to you if they happen to follow you on RUclips. If you were to move to Scotland would you live in a city or rural area? What about both your jobs plus you would probably need work visas to work in the UK.
    I worry about your feet and spine because I have similar issues to yours and I love to hike too. Good luck deciding what to do next in your journey with your husband.
