I like the name of “Mortal 1 Kombat”.
So MK11 is called Mortal 11 Kombat.
M1K. Has a nice ring to it.
Yeah, it's a great way to mock the stupidity of it.
Just like the movie Fant4stic (Fantfourstic)

I like the idea of the battle of Armageddon being a key point in the MK universe. A nexus point to multiple alternate realities. It was supposed to be a big deal to the stability of the realms after all.
It was like their 9/11
@@Sadeye92the best and also worst way to put it lmao
This is NetherRealm we're talking about, and we have seen how quick they are to abandon the follow up from the previous game in Chapter 1 of both MKX and MK11.
They'll do the same with MK1. Bet you it'll start with the Great Kung Lao era, shows Kung Lao beating Goro, then a timeskip. Cause NRS is too scared to take a risk with the story like how Midway did with Deadly Alliance. They'll just timeskip to the modern day to have the fan favorite characters back. Thus skipping out on more potential because mUh SpEcIaL fOrCeS
@@ThatAsianGuy68 They already showed Shang Tsung getting massacred on the trailer so it's clear they'll skip through events to focus on wathever new storyline they've cooked up.
@@sheriffdraws8789would say it’s more of the casual fans that only care about the gameplay that pretty much want mk1-3
@@sheriffdraws8789 Not even close.
I think my biggest issue with the last three mortal kombat games was the obsession with completely rewriting and shitting on not only the original timeline's story, but the story of 9, x, and 11 as well. They all felt like three completely different games with no consistency in the stories, and it only serves to support this with how different each of the three game's aesthetics and gameplay are
I personally see no issue on rewriting or making new stories, after a... Ya know... A FUCKING REBOOT? They were all bad and i agree that they do kind of ruin the lore, even though midway did that a little too in mk deception. But why complain sbout them rewriting it?
It's not just rewrites of the originals, it's them rewriting stuff from the same trilogy
I really wish NRS would hire this dude. He's more passionate and knowledgeable of the lore than the majority of their staff.
ed boon only hires sjws and activists
"As if continuity was some annoying obstacle rather than a core pillar of storytelling" was for sure their philosophy even during the NRS trilogy. Stuff would get forgotten, changed, or erased for no reason.
The fact that they're misrepresenting what M1K is supposed to be is just par for the course. I will not be surprised if this Fire God Liu is somehow not the one that we followed in 11. They're even designed differently. Unless Liu just has something against having white hair.
Nothing these writers come up with now can surprise me.
At this point I kinda expect someone get the "Sindel treatment" at least once per game. As if once wasn't enough.
@@sheriffdraws8789 Not even close.
@@sheriffdraws8789 Blame the Fans for them being creatively bankrupt.
@@sheriffdraws8789 The fans complain about their god awful writing and retcons as of late. They will do a decisions that you claim to be "Bold" and put themselves into a predicament were they have to reboot it multiple time for how bad it was. Some of which are just straight up wasted like what was the point of even setting that up in the first place if it never gonna be utilize. I wouldn't be surprised if they do it again to God Liu Kang. Especially when they forgot he suppose to have white hair.
My prediction/worst fears:
- Since this is a new timeline and potentially a point in rime before other games, everything'll happen the same way or at most slightly altered (à la mk1-2 in 9), because god forbit there'll be a MK game these days that doesn't show those events for the millionth time.
- Because I feel especially negative of the future of this franchise from a writing standpoint, I kinda expect someone will get the "Sindel treatment" at least once per game from now on (as if once wasn't enough).
- If she's in the game, D'vorah will kill someone.
- If he's in the game, Quan Chi will be revealed to be the evil guy behind the evil guy, pulling the strings of the whole universe in a ridiculous, overly long, overcomplicated scheme in order to accomplish... something.
@@sheriffdraws8789 You must be 5 years old if you have that thinking
@@derekmaullo2865which part of their comment makes you think that. The D'vorah killing/Quan Chi scheming part of the part about how MK1-3 being retold again is annoying? Quan Chi scheming is just what he does, and yeah D'vorah killing characters can get upsetting but I agree with them that MK1-3 being retold again doesn't need to happen, but if it does it would be nice to see it be more original (which i am hopeful it will be seeing as there has been a role switch with liu and raiden, maybe that plus other stuff can make the events play out differently).
Well I’d expect nothing less from a midway fanboy that wants “the good old days” to come back lol bunch of babies can’t except change
@@spartangaming1159 That rich coming from people that defend them for going back to the "good old days" for how terrible they been handling the written in MK as of late. That they need to reboot the franchise in every new installment back to it.
I never really got the hate for her. She's pretty much doing her job as a MORTAL KOMBAT Kharacter. Killing Kharacters. I mean, yeah, a writter in NRS is her little guardian, but come on. Let's just chill for a second over this character. Also, she's voiced by Kelly Hu. Kelly Hu is awesome.
‘Mortal 1 Kombat’ should be it’s new title amongst fans to help differentiate it from the other MK1’s.
Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath reset the universe in the way that Flashpoint reset the DC universe back in like 2011. The constants are The Flash and Reverse Flash, or Liu Kang and Shanng Tsung. They remember the universe that came before them, but no one else does
But then again they ended up making everything pre new 52 canon again so idk
When you call the new game Mortal 1 Kombat, it’s honestly an easier way of naming which game is which without calling the original game Mortal Kombat 1992 or this game 2023
Yes, except that the original Mortal Kombat was released in 1992. The original Mortal Kombat 2 was released in 1993. That is precisely it is asinine that everyone's chosen 2023 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the franchise, when the actual anniversary was last year.
If you called it Mortal Kombat 2023, nobody would think that it's genuinely the 2023rd MK game. That's like thinking Cyberpunk 2077 is the 2077th Cyberpunk game

Edit: they could’ve just named it, MK Rewind, or you know, something cool that the midway games did.
Spunds like a good idea, doubt they'll use it but it's a good thought to have going forward for the series' third timeline starting with Mortal 1 Kombat.

So take your bets guys, how many of the changes to the story as a result of 11 will be undone by the end of this story? I'm betting on Raiden and Liu Kang being shoved back into their usual roles bc nostalgia
I feel like a jerk saying this because I know that NRS work hard making these games but to quote a line The4thSnake said about the Devs. There (creatively bankrupt cowards).
given their track record, it will be those that make the least sense and would've worked better if untouched. also, some dumb fckery that complicated stuff that didn't need to be complicated further.
Considering previous entries, I kinda feel inclined to "MK2 all over again because marketing~"
Considering how op FireGod of Time Liu Kang is it would be the biggest hairpull ever if by the end of the main campaign Liu Kang lost all of his omnipotence and went back to square 1 as if the Netherrealm trilogy never even happened.
@Summer's Spice Winter's Mint They don't work hard at all. Working hard implies that someone at least cares about the job they are doing. Neatherrealm writers have repeatedly neglected and ignored canonical story tie ins into their game naratives, they did this twice, with the MKX comics and, then again with the original injustice comics. The MKX comics were very good for the most part and made MK feel like the adventure filled bloodsplatterd Titan of a franchise it is supposed to be and not the awkward and lazy piece of nostalgia bait trying to constantly retell the events of MK 1, 2, and 3. As far as I'm concerned this timeline reset is just another excuse to rehash the same "nostalgic" cast so that they won't have to put in any work on improving 3d era characters, concepts, or have to put effort into building a solid new generation or main cast of fighters. They had something special with Takeda and Kotal Kahn in the comics, but they shitted on both of them when the game came out and doubled down with burying them in MK11. Takeda wasn't even in the game, and Kotal got turned into a paraplegic all so that Kitana could usurp the crown of oatworld and become a 4 time Empress. Kotal and Takeda could have been the two characters to carry the story forward into the retelling of the 3d era. We could have and should have gotten a new Deadly Alliance, we should have witnessed Goro becoming Onaga, and Kotal and Takeda marshaling the forces of good from both Outworld and Earthrealm to face the forces of evil in Armageddon most likely helped by Dark Raiden and Hell King Liu Kang. Buy yet we are supposed to believe they are going to "follow through" with this timeline, when they didn't even have the balls to iron out any wrinkles they made and finish the previous alternate timeline? I hope I'm wrong, but if I'm right I need NRto be held accountable. I'm tired of seeing Ed Boon walk around trolling and taking interviews from "respected" content creators or games Journalists and not be grilled about the absolutely abysmall story and character writing Neatherrealm has been putting together over the past decade despite them constantly being showered and recognized as the leaders in fighting game story telling. There is literal fan fiction that writes MK better than them!
If MK1 is a hard reboot……….then why is Fire Lord Liu Kang still around and Raiden human? Seems Netherrealm forgot what REBOOT meant.
If only they decided to do a reboot that isn’t in universe. Like how Ninja Theory tried in DmC.
It seems everyone forgot the definition of a reboot and now people think the word reboot means prequel and vice versa
Not surprisingly to Me.
I think people get the misconception that REBOOT and REMAKE are one in the same, but they technically are a 100% not.
REBOOT:
1) (Altering) the story, characters, design, setting, or the lore from its original platform.
2) (Deconstructing) characters to fit a narrative in the story and becoming the complete opposite of the original character.
3) (Deleting) characters, plot points, or other concepts from the original material.
REMAKE:
1) (Keep) the characters, story, and lore intact.
2) (Add) more concepts to the lore just as long as it doesn't contradict it.
3) (Improve) some of the characters or other concepts from the lore that weren't fully fleshed out.
@@brandonscott4808 I feel like when it comes to designs it’s a bit irrelevant because anyone can change their looks whether it’s a reboot or not it doesn’t have to be consistent

What if every MK game released after the next is just going to be another reboot
Knowing nrs it’s very possible that you are correct
Maybe they'll take the The Legend of Zelda approach by making every game it's own self contained story detached from past games aside from a bunch of references.
I also like Mortal 1 Kombat better. That should be it's name to separate it from the other MK1 versions.
I hope they bring back the mini-games for this one. Test your might, test your sight etc. It looks like they're bringing back Cary Tagawa, I hope they do. It would be nice to see weapons return, as in Shaolin Monks. I can't wait to see Goro. I hope Kenshi is in this game.
I hope they'll bring the Babalities back as well. After not seeing them in MK11 in full HD it would be a cool surprise to see them return.
Cary Tagawa was the only good thing about mk11, honestly. And he wasn't even in the main game.
Indeed, I have no clue why they dropped the Test your might from MK9 and X in MK11. Frankly ridiculous how they're dropping a bunch of stuff from even their games. Why do they even do this?
@@lapplandkun9273 Mortal Kombat 9 was the honeymoon. MK 11 is when Mortal Kombat went cuck. The Mortal Kombat team used to cater to their demographic. I hope this game is the apology we deserve for Mortal Kombat 11. Bring back the Challenge Tower.

I really do hope that Bi-Han has more screentime to actually establish his dynamic with other characters. Because I love Kuai Liang, SO MUCH, but we need to see more of why we should care about his brother. And to me, using good semblance of movie synergy, I want to know about the dynamics Hanzo and Bi-Han used to have before they want to seriously kill each other. It would be more refreshing than just the rebooted timeline just being a chance to speed up character development between dynamics that have been shown multiple times. It would make for a great "rebooted" Noob Saibot timeline where we have investment in Bi-Han as an in-game character. I straight up really hope MK1 has some Mythologies Sub-Zero influences into Sub-Zero's story for this game.
I agree, maybe we can see a further interaction between Bi Han and his brother, especially Bi Han and Sereena.
Yeah, i remember that Raiden said to Bi-Han that, even if his soul was tainted with evil, he is the only one who can choose his path

My biggest question is why does NRS keep insisting on rebooting Mortal Kombat? Wouldn’t it just be easy to let the current story continue for a good few years then plan a proper reboot cause when it came to MK9 that was the first reboot ok makes sense Armageddon needs to be prevented mission accomplished MKX was actually going somewhere it looked like Raiden was gonna be the main villain for MK11 but then Kronika shows up out of the blue and the timeline is rebooted again Aftermath just rebooted the rebooted timeline again and now MK1 is a rebooted timeline you see what I mean about too many reboots happening in this franchise? Best to just let the reboot button rest for a few years
Well considering mortal kombat is owned by the same people who also own DC (You know the company that's constantly abusing the reboot button) It's not that hard to figure out
@@MazeDaGr8 I suppose but you’d expect the actual creator of Mortal Kombat to have way more control over their own franchise
@@GalvatronStudios Yeah you'd think but WB has been known to be very Meddlesome when comes to so certain things. Just look at the botched DCEU along with many of their other films
@@MazeDaGr8 yeah it’s almost as if WB is scared their games will end up becoming another DCEU catastrophe
I think the reason for that were two things
1) I think NRS didn't want to touch on the 3d trilogy (Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon) since, from what I heard is when MK became bit divided with some fans criticizing the game for the story becoming convoluted and the focus given to new character introduce in the respective games (Shujinko and Taven) rather than the main character we have been following until that point. Armageddon is the biggest exemple of this. Instead of epic event, 99% of the cast is pushed aside so the story can focus on Taven conflict with his brother, character that were introduce in this game. That would be the equivalent of IW/ Endgame focusing not on the main avengers but rather on the Fantastic Four and Galactus, with both making their debut in this film.
2) As 4thsnake pointed out, NRS era is very similar to the SW sequels and probably suffer the same issue: They tried to start with reboot retelling the events from MK 1 to 3, they tried a new thing in MK X with next generation characters but it didn't work so in MK 11 they relied on fan-service, bringing the originals back but pushing the new ones they introduce.
I don't know what the story of Mortal Kombat 1 is but it's going to have at least one of the following.
We'll get new villain character(s) that never win fight but are treated as a threat.
D'vora is going to kill a fan favorite character and get away with it.
Quan Chi is going to do or is said to have done something pointless and it'll be treated as part of a master plan.
This reminds me of my idea for an alternate MK11.
I always insisted that they should have completed the second timeline arc by having a plot parallel to MKDA-MKA, but people say that they "had" to do the Kronika plot to revert time to the beginning so that MK12 could be a reboot, but that's dumb for a number of reasons. You could ALWAYS find ways to lead the story to a specific ending, but also the MK11 roster makes no sense if MK12 was always meant to start from the beginning with the MK1 and MK2 characters again.
So if I could take Kronika's hourglass, go back in time and rewrite MK11 I'd do this: with the last game being a passing of the torch, the new protagonists are the four "kids" of MKX with older ones like Sonya, Johnny, and Jax being in supporting roles for the most part. So the story initially focuses on THEM fighting the threats from other worlds but to make the character more interesting Jacqui now has actual cibernetic arms, since she takes inspiration from her dad (and legitimately replaces him in the roster) so there'd be a subplot about her being addicted to body augmentation, something like Cyberpunk Edgerunners. Anyway the Special Forces get attacked by a new threat in the form of holy men which are after the Chaosrealm Kamidogu which has been in their possession for a while after a raid in that realm (oh we absolutely erase from canon the MKX comic with its stupid daggers, we release a Tweet saying "yeah it was really just promotional material and now joins the Malibu comic, the movies and tv shows as an alternate incarnation of the MK universe"). The SF pushes back but is met by Dark Raiden who also wants the Kamidogu and explains that the new threat is former Emperor of Outworld Onaga, who may return as prophesized.
From there the story becomes a sort of Infinity War where Onaga wants to find all the Kamidogu and the good guys must stop him. Btw the others are: the Earthrealm Kamidogu is with the Red Dragon now led by Mavado after Takeda killed Daegon in his MKX ending (Taven is a selectable character too); the Edenian Kamidogu is with Kotal Kahn, the new Emperor of Outworld who actually joins forces with the good guys since he sees Onaga as a threat; the Netherrealm Kamidogu is with Liu Kang and Kitana, who now rule that realm; the Orderrealm Kamidogu is in Orderrealm which is actually explored in this game (with Hotaru and Havik being selectable); the Outworld Kamidogu is with Onaga from the start (we might rewrite the events of Deception's Konquest since that was never 100% canon).
Onaga is then revealed and he has taken possession of Blaze's body (who was never freed from his control in this timeline) resulting in a fiery Blaze-Onaga.
At the end Onaga manages to indeed find all the Kamidogu and as he starts to fuse them Raiden fights him and there's what appears to be the final battle. When Raiden defeats Onaga he reveals that it was a trap: Raiden unleashed the power of Shinnok's amulet on Onaga and that was actually the final ingredient he needed to fuse the Kamidogu. So he manages to do that and destroy the universe but not before Raiden attempts a last move: he fuses with Liu Kang (who was resurrected as a good guy at one point) and becomes an Elder God, escaping the end of the universe by ascending to a higher plane. So there's the actual final battle, taking place in the Heavens: Fire God Liu Kang vs The One Being.
Liu Kang wins and destroys the One Being who is then broken apart giving birth to a new universe like it was originally; Liu Kang now has control over the creation of this new universe and like that we've set up MK12.
That's great idea. Always found weird that NRS choose to create a new villain with Kronika instead of using Onaga, who is already a bigger threat (with good design) for all the realms and would work as nice way to close MK trilogy: It started with the heroes fighting Shao Khan, it end with them having to deal with the only villain Shao Khan (the bad guy who they spend the whole MK 9 trying to stop) could never defeat in a fair fight. Maybe in this battle, Revenant Liu Kang and Kitana could create Revenant Shao Khan to help them fight Onaga.
@@alexandrefrauches132 I'm not sure about Shao Kahn since I wouldn't want to undermine the MK9 ending but either way yeah, there were a lot of possibilities.
I too found it weird they didn't even attempt to complete the timeline but I could accept hem doing something original if it was a good story and an actually original concept, instead of one that felt like what we already had in the previous two games: the time travel plot of MK9 and the young vs old character gimmick from MKX.
The stuff about Jacqui getting augments sounds a little too "edgy" for her character so i doubt Netherrealm would do something like that to her character specifically. Also as explained by The4thSnake the One Being cannot be fought as he's a fully _omnipotent_ deity who would swallow the Realms whole the second he ever awakened from his imprisoned slumber. Those 2 things aside i like your ideas really well thought out.
@@javiervasquez625 about Jacqui I know Netherrealm wouldn't do it... because they didn't. But I'm working off of the relatively poor reaction the characters received so I thought of ways to pump them up a bit and have them be worthy of actually replacing the predecessors in the roster, since I always felt that's the natural continuation of the story.
So Jacqui would have to be upgraded to replace Jax but it doesn't necessarily need to get too edgy, she doesn't beed to turn into Jack from Tekken, she just has Jax's arms but maybe they're not permanent and she considers having them attached permanently and her father dissuades her and there's that.
About the One Being he'd only be there for the one final battle against Liu Kang who'd specifically be an Elder God, so the fight would be on the same plane as the Elder Gods' original battle against him. I mean I know the original battle was one-sided so it may still be unbalanced but I think Elder God vs One Being is not any more absurd than mortals vs. Titan...
Also I felt having Onaga (even in Blaze form) was not enough, there needed to be an original boss on top, a bit like the final form of Shinnok in MKX and the One Being was the natural pick.
@@KombatGod
You could have Liu Kang also merging with ALL The Still Living Elder Gods and have the Final Kamidoqu + Shinnok Amulet
You could even have The One Being not being Fully Awakened (for some reason, maybe the Elder Gods removed some Key Elements from the Realms as a Last Plan to avoid The One Being fully awakens)
And even made some Weapons created to fight against the One Being (and these Weapons could be made from those Key Elements, meaning that The One Being wasn't able to reassimilate them like he failed with Liu Kang and Raiden)
Thus explaining why the One Being can be defeated
As it wouldn't actually be The One Being
but another Avatar of the One Being
Even if a very close one
I wish I had this much faith in MK's storytelling
Is sad to be with you on that cuz the major point i used to like about mk till mk9 was the plot. Only 2 mk games hooked me on gameplay (umk3 and mk9) but i always found mk lore fascinating with the whole mitology, multiple plots running at the same time in multiple realms and plot twists like liu kang losing and dying at the beginning of deadly alliance.
I like the idea of Armageddon being a jumpoff point for every timeline and continuity
Ed Boone recently said it’s a continuation of the events that transpired in mk11, the only thing is that liu kang is the only one who remembers the old timeline
I would like to see Taven's story to continue
He was the one who supposed to beat Blaze in MKA, but NRS just screw it and make Shao Kahn the victor for the sake of wanting to reboot the franchise. There was actually an original idea for MK9 by Midway (before they go bankrupt and become NRS). The original idea for MK9 was supposed to be a direct sequel for MKA with a few klassic character who survive Armageddon and a tons of new character. Some of the few survivor is Taven (since he defeated Blaze, he obtain godlike power from Blaze's essence), Scorpion and Sub-Zero (so obvious, of course this two gonna return), Kitana and Liu Kang (Taven revive him by uniting his zombified body and his spirit). But of course, this idea was scrap all-together because Midway then bankrupt. After that, the team revive their studio back name NRS under WB, they just decided to start the MK fresh again, kinda like how their studio is starting back.
This is why I will continue to claim John Tobias as the real true creator of MK and why I refuse to give Ed Boon co-creator credit. He clearly doesn’t understand this franchise, he keeps contradicting his own statements and/or making comments that comes across as questionable, and he keeps hiring new writers who he keeps claiming that they understand the lore better but has demonstrated that they don’t. Yet you ask John any questions, he’ll have an explanation that makes sense. NRS MK, in far too many ways, really is more like Disney Wars than we originally thought.
And this is the same guy who claims he’s a fan of MK Deception yet he and his team only ever focus on 2D era stuff even ignoring Onaga and sidelining him for what feels like a bunch of guests almost like there being shameless sellouts . There fun fan service but good lord in X and especially 11 it feels like NRS has more love and respect for them than half there own series reps. Like even Havik and Sareena for example were denied a bunch of times for what also feels like the same reason...guests.
Finally, someone who understands. These new writers totally spit on the old lore and make up random shid for their DC MK fanfic (titans _cough_ )
@@ThatAsianGuy68 Honestly, this.
To me it feels like they just hired a bunch of people who wanted to work in Injustice and DC related stuff, then they drew lots and the losers had to work on MK. MK9 was fine, it was MK, MKX was an attempt to make something sorta new, sorta old, it was true to MK core but failed by other merits. And then MK11 comes along and it's straight up out of DC Comics. From character design, mechanics, colors, voicelines, plotlines, Fatal Blows, fatalities.... It all just screams Injustice and doesn't feel Mortal Kombat at all. Fuck, they even brought back the "90s" characters for nostalgia like... dude, MK9 launched a few years ago, they were all there and much truer to the originals.
Wanna fix MK? Sit in a room inside NRS' office and start calling the entire team, 1 by 1. They walk in, sit in a table and you give them 10 pictures of DC characters. If they can name four or more counting Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman, fire them.
oh yeah, while I like a lot of the 3D era stuff (it's made easier by the fact that most of it was written by the people who were around since the beginning), I see MK as John's universe. Ed was a programmer and a businessman.
The NRS trilogy is just a bad fanfic to me. written by someone who only vaguely remembered the original games but was lazy and too confident in themselves to at least check the fkng wiki.
@@JahlisMan Ed Boon is more of a Gabe Newell than a Shigeru Miyamoto in that he's clearly focused on the bussiness side of the company only to hire a bunch of upcoming writers to basically write "stuff" in the MK franchise with very little hindsight on wether they know anything about MK and have the qualifications to write a story that fits the Lore and tone of previous games for the sake of continuity and _authenticity_ regarding the core of the MK storyline.
I somehow doubt there will be this much thought put into this game.
It's NRS. Let's keep our hopes low as possible until September
Boon's two favourite words: reboot and _hard_
The trailer quite clearly shows its in the new era Liu-Kang created so I don't see how its a hard reboot. Its just like MK9 except now the main character is knowingly and actively changing stuff. It'd be bafflingly stupid to have an end credits scene of Liu-Kang starting a new timeline and then not doing anything with it, making MK11 in its entirety completely pointless...so...actually they could actually do that, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they wouldn't waste it like they did Dark Raiden.
I mean.... if they tried to pretend MK11 was some kind of vision, fever dream or just pull a Twilight... I'd be on board. Raiden just wakes up from his nightmare and we are right back where MKX ended. Boom. All problems fixed.
why on Earth would you give them the benefit of the doubt after MK11?
@@JahlisMan I try to be optimistic and assume they wouldn't let the whole story and dlc be completely meaningless. No one can be that dumb.

A new retelling of Mortal Kombat but with an actual difference in the plot....lets just hope they do sindel and shao justice this time, also looking forward to Mileena and Kitana's relationship since it seems they both believe eachother to be sisters (wether thats true or not we'll have to see).

soft and hard reboots
Yeah this sounds much better and logical but I pray most of all is that we get our Sindel back and forget twindel ever existed.
Dead horse
It'd be really weird for Liu-Kang to keep her evil, though then again with what I assume is complete control over the universe...it'd be weird to have any antagonist still around. But yeah, it'd make sense for him to try to give Kitana a better life as well as change Sindel back to normal but they'll probably double down on it.
@@MysteriousTomJenkins I just hope they learned from the backlash of her retcon, it’ll be a good start since it is another reboot.
@@MazeDaGr8 Still valid. Twindel is retarded and isn't even consistent
They had no choice to reboot the game again. The story line got ridiculous towards the end. There were so many missed opportunities. Starting with MK9. By 11, it just got out of hand. Here’s what I would’ve done for MK9:
MK1.
The Story starts off how it did in the game with Raiden sending a message to himself in the past. We keep most of the events from this portion of the game (Outside of unnecessary fights like Johnny Cage vs Sonya). Liu Kang defeats Shang Tsung. I honestly felt like this portion of the game was the one they handled the best.
MK2.
The story will start off the same with Sonya getting captured and Kahn’s invitation to outworld tournament. Again we can keep most of the same stuff outside of unnecessary fights (Johnny cage vs jax). Major changes here would be to have Kung Lao fight Kintaro. Since King Lao believes he’s on Liu Kang’s level, after he defeats Kintaro (Who we know is not on Goro’s level) He would then battle Shao Kahn only to be embarrassed and almost killed. Raiden would convince Kahn to spare him. I would also scrape the cyber subzero plot line and keep smoke as the cyborg. The final fight would be Liu Kang vs Shao Kahn with Liu Kang sparing Kahn since he spared Kung Lao.
MK3.
MK3 starts off with the outworld invasion, Kahn using his last ditch effort to take control of earth realm. I would scrape the killing of Shang Tsung, he could play a more consulting role In this portion of the story. Keep the same plot lines with earth forces vs outworld forces. Also, the entire Sindel killing everyone would be scrapped. No Raiden vs Revenants. Jade and Kitana would team up to free sindel from Kahn’s spell. Final fight here is Liu Kang vs Shao Kahn only difference this time is that Liu Kang Kills Shao Kahn. One of the reasons we have Armageddon in the first place is because none of the characters get killed off. At the end of the game we have the good guys celebrating and Raiden walks off to the side and see the amulet is still breaking. The game ends on a cliffhanger. We then cut to the scene at the end of MK9 with Shinnok and Quan Chi.
I’ll post another one for MKX if anyone’s interested.
Good re-telling !
ether way james rolfe may do a chronologically confused on the mk series
Mortal 1 Kombat.
Story-wise it will be a continuation of MK 11, with a new world reborn under Liu Kang. As of now, though, that just means "Raiden is Shaolin monk; Liu Kang is God." Everybody else looks like they have the same old story. Of course, it is very early we will see with time. But in terms of gameplay and even HUD it looks like a remake of MK 9, which itself was a remake of MK 1 2 and 3.
Ahh, we all know that scorpion and subzero were brothers in the old timeline.
The name Mortal 1 Kombat to hilarious and what I will now call it
Also I’m shocked people think this is a hard reboot since it clearly follows Fire God Liu Kang post Aftermath
i'm more curious about how they plan to use Sindel assuming she will ever show up, well they just keep the whole narrative about her being evil all along all retcon her back to the loving mother that gave herself to keep her child and earth realm safe
Maybe a triple twist particularly uninspired, like: first she was evil controlled, then she wasn't, then she was all along, and now she isn't again. Like a M. Night Shyamalan "twist".
@@megaene according to leaks she will be retconned again to be good, at this point is kinda ridiculous tbh
I was hoping that with the time reset we could get a game where there wasn't any boring military shit, I was hoping we could get just 1 modern game without Sonya, Jax, and Johnny and we could focus on a new time period and the cool magic ninja shit. The trailer made me sigh as soon as I saw Johnny.
Johney cage is in the original game, why wouldn't he be in the new timeline
@@kongthornton780 he is but he has become another mostly generic military character like Sonya and Jax
@@yuzustridh3794ude, sonya and jax are just kameos in this game. They are not in the story. Thats why theyre called "kameos". And johnny here is his younger non military version. And we are focusing here more on the shaolin.
I can't believe how ignorant people really are. The answer is staring them right in the face.
I genuinely didn’t understand why everyone was so confused about what Ed Boon said when it CLEARY showed Fire God Liu Kang, and mortal Raiden at the very start
I've been saying this. This CLEARLY picks up where MK-11 left off. It's just a *soft* reboot just like every single Mortal Kombat game in the NRS era. Ed Boon can be aloof and disingenuous at times.
Of course 4thSnake’s solution is to go back to Armageddon and reset the timeline from there lol
Ok why are you not in charge of telling good stories? NRS really needs your big brain to help em.
I miss when Mortal Kombat had *words* in their titles. The last game to be called something aside from its number was Mortal Kombat Versus DC Universe. From 2008. It's been *Fifteen years* since a Mortal Kombat game had a real title, and that was a crossover.
This is why I always trust you and tabmok in high regard; you guys set the record straight no matter konvoluted the games are. To keep it in the narrow instead of konfusing fans with all the divergent krap. I always wanted Mortal 1 Kombat to be a kontinuation from MK11/Aftermath or at least a non-linear sequel. That klassic timeline jump kan work too.
And MK Temple warned me that Boon's not part of the writing team and slips when it komes to the lore. So, there's that. Stark kontrast to what UncagedGamez thought.
But one question remains, will Liu Kang turn korrupt like he and Raiden did in the past...?
Mortal 1 Kombat is a nice way to differentiate this one from the original.
"and thats its start of a new story line which isnt gonna be about titans and time travel nonsense" lol how about titans and multiverse nonsense instead
Yeah I was listening live and my interpretation of what he said was completely different from what I was hearing everyone else interpret him as.
He was specifically talking about new character origins and how they were going to tell brand new stories with all these iconic characters and that it would be a brand new origin story not one that is a continuation of MK11 which makes perfect fucking sense because fire god LK reset the timeline so yes all these other characters are starting brand new from scratch with no recollection of previous timelines and stories so of course it’s not a continuation of MK11 for them but he was specifically talking about all those iconic characters not necessarily that MK1 does not follow MK11 and Fire God Liu’s story isn’t a continuation of what he obviously became in the last game. It was actually a pretty obvious statement and I didn’t even think anything of it until I saw the nonsense online later lol
Great video, and I like the idea of it continuing off the old timeline
Can’t wait to see what M1K has for us
We wish it was a hard reboot, sadly it's just more fucking marvel storytelling from Ed
??????
Are you gonna be making a video breaking down the new trailer?
"And that is the start of a new storyline, which isn't going to be about titans and time travel nonsense, unless something astoundingly stupid is going on..."
Something astoundingly stupid was, indeed, going on. Welcome to the multiverse baby!
I’m sad Richard Epcar isn’t Radien
1:22
I actually like the idea of saying Mortal 1 Kombat rather than the year it came out. Also your story at the end aint bad and just shows you have a better understanding of MK over NRS.
This age is like milk
Ed Boon must be smoking Smoke if he expects us to believe this isn't a sequel to MK11. That or there's enough negativity around 11, that he wants to distance this game from 11; Which doesn't make sense, because the last game at the very least sold well.
I get why they chose MK 1 as the title, but it’s pretty confusing when you think about it. It should’ve been called MK 0.
Did you see the large scale mortal 1bat announcement that was heavily marketed and had alot of eyes on it?
Mortal 1 Kombat is funny, but it's mortal Kombat 12 because it's mortal Kombat one two
Some sweet framerate on those MK4 cutscenes.
I think the canon of the previous game is more respected this time. Because we have Fire God Liu Kang and everything is set in the time of the Great Kung Lao. Unlike in 9 where Taven is replaced as the one who defeated Blaze and Shao Kahn just gets his powers off screen. From a timeline standpoint that never made sense to me. Blaze is never mentioned and Shao Khans new powers aren't even explained as coming from him. Hell half the characters from that original battle in Armageddon were erased from the new canon. That to me was a hard reboot.
Yea, the retcon is just stupid. John Vogel does confirm on his twitter many years before that apparently, it was Shao Kahn who defeated Blaze. It really show at that time NRS was so eager to start fresh for MK, so they were like screw it, just make Shao Kahn win Armageddon. No explanation at all how the hell Shao Kahn escape from Onaga and let alone manage to beat Blaze, who at that time was the most powerful character in MK history. Blaze was the "Kronika" at that time. They just don't care anymore. They also don't explain what the hell happen to Taven. His fate is literally unknown
4thsnake is there a way to redeem eron blacks character as a jobber by retconning that he is a pacifist who doesn’t want to fight or is not a dangerous bounty hunter at all but a conman bluffing outworlders. He is sort of like ciphas Cain like 40k who pretends to be a tough but is actually a civilian and carnival performer , and the bullets are blanks
I hate how they once again muck up the title.
Now you can’t even call the original MK mortal kombat 1 anymore.
I honestly think this reboot will just follow every bad step that the previous rebooted did there’s already a big plot problems with Lou Kang being a God and raiden being immortal the gameplay might be good, but I think Mortal Kombat Story is pretty screwed from now on
Some people are thinking that liu’s attempt to make this timeline is just going to end up being inevitable that the timeline goes to shit like the other 2 timelines lmao.
The fuck is the point of the new timeline if they are gonna lead to the same thing lmao
Glad I wasn't the only one saw the logo and thought 'M1K'.
Basically what he’s saying is the only thing that it’s carrying over is the fact that Liu Kang is still the fire god. Everyone else is getting a personality change, so I hope you like what they did with Sindel lol
You and the guy from button check saying mortal kombat lol. Now it’s gonna get stuck in my head
Yeah, I'm sure Ed Boon meant that mortal 1 Kombat is a fresh entry point for newcomers as well. It just begs the question of why Lui Kang would bring back Mileena and Shang Tsung if it does follow mk11.
Maybe mileena, because liu kang realized that she was just a victim of Shao Khan's manipulations and someone who couldn't tell between right and wrong, hence he decided to change her and give her a chance that she never had gotten in MK at all? Or maybe kitana realized this herself and begged liu kang to, because she genuinely believes she could be redeemed?
I hope story don t suck
I think one thing saying some the trailers and finding out Baraka and his race have a disease that tournament into that in the whole Tanya we're still doing that awoke crap that any Mortal Kombat 11
Better plot indeed man!!!
I started to become a Mortal Kombat story fan only around 2011 and even I’m like ”please lets not do the Mk1-3 storyline AGAIN”
God, I really don't like the idea of Liu being the mentor for Raiden this time. It's just so weird. Raiden is just going to be born a mortal? So fucking stupid. Is Fujin still a God? Are Raiden and Fujin still related? Why have they done this?
I just want a good story but seems like it's just gonna be more bs 🙄🙄
will they have guest character?
If board stokes past events are only mentioned, that theory can be the best way to rework the story of Armageddon
Hopefully with MK1 netherrealm can keep a consistent story without just resulting to time travel & maybe we can bring back all the reals NR just forgets exists
I think because ed boon is in his late 50s he sadly can't keep up mortal kombat's timeline he said this story does not fall of from mk11 just like he said mk11 is after the events of mk9 our brains really are sensitive
What? MK11 is a continuation of MKX. How is it MK9?
I really see with this numeral system one story expansion call MORTAL KOMBAT X 2. With the Kombat kids return
I am so tired of Nethrrealm's bulshit that I don't care anymore at this point
It's technically both. A hard reboot while also following up from MK 11 due to fire god lui Kang being the one who rebooted the universe
Are you aware of the definition of hard reboot?
@LiMe251 yes. The universe itself is hard rebooted but Fire God Liu is from the old universe.
@@liamlennon3316 A hard reboot is a reboot that has no story connection to the past iterations, that does not apply here, the mere existence of Fire God Liu Kang prevents that.
Thank You!!!! ;) b safe
Hopefully it'll do away with Twindel.
Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat (2011), and Mortal Kombat 1
Mortal 1 Kombat*😂
Why is this man not on the netherrealm writing team
I thought this took place after the reset during the end of aftermath.
I just hope they dont pull a MK11 Dark Raiden again.
Where he was given all this hype and build up only to be important in one chapter and he was only fighting minons.
I hope Fire God Liu Kang stays the way he appears to be
Oh so he’s going to prevent kung Laos neck snap. But the thing with time is it’s like a river you could prevent something. But it could mean Kung Lao will die later or someone else will get caught in the crossfire. I’m interested what will happen with raiden as he’s no longer a god.
He also still has his lightning powers as evidenced by gameplay so it's completely strange
@@lapplandkun9273 maybe like lui kang when you become a god your powers become even stronger. So if Johnny was a god he’d be the god of.. um green or something I don’t know 😂
It's pretty sad that you need to explain it's not a hard reboot. It's not hard to understand but somehow some people really didn't get it.
You know they’re going to find a way to bring Quan Chi back…
Yet Mortal Kombat 1 should've been called Mortal Kombat 12.
It's a sequel reboot (also known as a sea-boot)! A soft sea-boot!
Or maybe it's a soft sequel sea-boot reboot prequel!
I love mortal kombat but their inability to tell a coherent story makes me so mad
It's NRS
I would absolutely love to see a hard reboot of Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance and Deception. Except make The Dragon King playable and give him the ending he had in Deception.
not by these current writers I wouldn't.
@@JahlisMan And considering how little respect NRS has for the 3D era, it's likely they won't
you should be the one to develop for Mortal Kombat, apply for being a writer
I still think that Ed Boon meant what he said but also think 0:47 - 0:59. Like a soft reboot, think mk9 but with incredibly nonthreatening titans and this time we get 1 extra 3d character
that's dumb. Ed boon literally promised fans over tweets that 3D era characters were going to have more influence in later installments. So was he speaking out his ass?
@@lapplandkun9273 from what it looks like, hardly any influence from the 3d era. you'll have to wait and see cause maybe Ed is saving that for later since NRS needs to sell the game to NRS fans first.
Mortal One is a good title lmaoo
