    I've taken this opportunity to get more focused on streamlining my life, figuring out what's most important and how to maintain that in most possible catastrophic situations.
    It's not just about the election, that just brought this need into sharp focus. I'm in Western NC.
    Something that struck me in the days following Helene, was that the ones most able to help others, were the ones most grounded and prepared (usually). I was able to leverage some advantages to greatly assist friends and generally help the first responders.
    That made me really happy.
    In fact, the election felt almost inconsequential, as I watched communities return. I felt hope underlie my horror at our election losses, while I helped neighbors figure out how to adjust to their new normals.
    I feel like that's a good direction in general for we lefties. Resistance through assistance. 💙
    But also we all need to preach the gospel of Ranked Choice Voting and pushing the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. We HAVE to break the stranglehold of the oligarchs on BOTH sides, or we'll never see the natural diversity and grace that actually DOES make Americans great, reflected in our polity.

      I am as well! I was inspired by Vaush's speeches about how this is the time to develop discipline. Fortitude and resiliency are going to make suffering through the mental and physical hardship to come much more manageable. God forbid you get sick or develop a physical or mental health disorder once our health system is even more predatory.
      Additionally, things are going to be substantially more expensive if literally any of Trump's economic plans are implemented. As such, I'm cutting down on discretionary spending and developing a spending/saving budget with my spouse.
      Part of that includes swapping from buying packaged foods to whole and frozen foods that I can make ahead of time. When I did that before, I literally brought my weekly grocery bill down to 1/2-1/4 of the price. Also I physically felt much better.
      Use this time wisely to develop common sense, baseline habits that help maintain physical and mental health!
      Consistent sleep schedule (sleeping and waking at the same time everyday, even on the weekends),
      light daily exercise (even just a walk outside),
      intense exercise a few times a week (resistance training, ideally),
      eat whole foods as much as you can,
      cut out red meat entirely (if not all meat),
      and work on doing things immediately when they need done instead of waiting.
      All of these things are necessary if we hope to be effective advocates for leftist ideas and policies in the coming dark age.

    It wasn't policies that drove voters to Trump. It was perceptions of policies. Almost every time I hear Trump voters talk about what policies of his they like, they describe policies that aren't his actual policies. Likewise, when they talk about Harris's policies that they don't like, they describe policies that aren't her actual policies. We are suffering from a deeply misinformed electorate.

I don’t see Democrats explaining why and how government IS a solution. It’s why we have social security, medicare, unemployment, the idea of a minimum wage, and yes, regulations that cleaned the air and rivers. We need to speak more about income inequality and mean it.

    • @swordarmstudios6052
      @swordarmstudios6052 4 дня назад

      I dunno. I'm coming around to the idea that we really need a reformer. We need to rethink our approach. Getting lofty and then handing out cash doesn't feel like it catches the mood correctly. Enough people who might receive aid don't really want it.
      Instead - I think we need to have a think about capitalism. Try to cut out the middle men. Some markets are not working correctly - so it's not anti-market or giving people money. Just preventing people from bilking it, and driving the cost on everyone who is trying to do something useful. No one is shedding a tear for a pharmacy benefit manager, or a doctor that pushes pills because they get kick backs from drug makers.
      I think that plays very well with a strident anti-corruption message. It's anti-establishment somewhat, but not to a pathological degree, and it captures exactly why Trump is bad, and connects that badness to their pain - and the middlemen we would be targeting policy wise will be a wildly unpopular group of leeches on the system. The business world doesn't like these people either - and they see them as an anti-capitalist element.

      To people for whom Gaza is extremely important, the two parties ran as quite literally the same thing this cycle about Gaza. Just yesterday, Biden reneged on the 30 day timeline he gave the Israeli government to get aid into Gaza. They don’t care and are letting the carnage continue. Functionally, this is no different from Trump. They do not see any significant distinction even with Trump putting huckabee in there, etc.

      Hamtramck, also in Wayne Co., MI, which is majority Muslim, with a large Yemeni population, voted overwhelmingly for Harris. Dearborn is approx 54% Arab or Muslim, mostly Lebanese. Much of the Arab population is too young to vote. A good chunk are foreign born and not yet naturalized and cannot vote. The other 46% of the population is older and of European descent. Polish, Maltese, Ukrainian. There are single digit populations of Black, Latino, and Asian-American voters. My guess would be is that it was certainly not a majority of the Arab Americans who voted for Trump. I'm sure Trump gained a handful of voters based on Gaza, and I imagine that explains the Stein vote. Just look at the cars the teens are driving in Dearborn. We’ll have to wait for the vote counts and surveys. However, I think the conclusion will ultimately be that the election was (primarily) lost because people are demoralized-from Trump’s chaos, the pandemic, income inequality, and the hollowing out as well as distrust of the government that has only grown since (and mostly because of) Reagan.

      This is exactly where my head is at too. Seemingly, there’s this belief that Trump converted people but I maintain that the more accurate picture is that Democratic and left-leaning voters did not show up like they should have.
      People are demoralized from Trump’s chaos, the pandemic, wealth inequality, and the hollowing out as well as growing distrust of the government-which was primarily ignited as a result of Reagan’s policies.
      All the votes still need to be counted and there are surveys which have yet to be completed. When the dust settles, I anticipate the conclusion to be that this election was lost (in large part) as a result of demoralization and disillusionment.

      Millions of MAGAs and hardcore republicans vote for him no matter what. He lost some amount of moderate and sane republicans after January 6, but as we've heard he made a lot of gains across the board and the biggest reason for that was the (erroneous) belief that Trump would be better for the economy.

    • @conorfurlong
      @conorfurlong 4 дня назад

      @ There is zero evidence that the those who supported him in 2020 did not do so in 2024. And there is zero evidence it was due to the economy.
      People may have told pollsters it was the economy but the very same people - if Trump had been president for the last four years - would have voted for him last week.
      Trump won this November because he retained his support from 2024 and Harris lost a lot of Biden’s voters from 2020.
      It’s as simple as that.

If you give us more money we'll keep up the fight! We just have to get through this and things will get better, I mean we could do something about it now.. but we won't.
