I love car S.O.S, I agree wheeler dealers is just dreadful they never take into consideration the amount of labour hours spent on the cars if they did they wouldn't make any profit
Also make sure to check the oil cap for any kind of milky residue as that would be signs of a leaking head gasket. Turn off the a/c and radio so you can hear everything while you are driving and make sure you do a tight figure eight in both directions so you you can test the joints.
lol 1 week ago I bought a 2012 E91 LCI 320d. It was from a BMW dealer and it has BMW Premium Selection. The bodywork is perfect and it starts better than many petrol engines would wish.
Hi Alex, Here some suggestions for perfectioning Phil: 1.: 6 speed gearbox out of a MX-5 NB Sportive (bolt on part) 2.: Aluminum Flywheel (for better throttle response and faster reving) -> you can also get your OEM flywheel machined which is cheaper 3.: Smaller steering wheel (32 or 34 cm) --> gotta have an airbag in your case therefore your should check ou the company "Raid" 4.: Better seats (not a lot of options becasue of the small size of Phil) --> Lotus Elise seats do fit great (and can be had for cheap in the UK) 5.: Airdam --> better looks and high speed stability (almost an OEM part) 6.: Short shift knob (e.g. Team Voodoo knob) --> for even more awesome shifting 7.: Remove the rear mud flaps (for style) Thats it :-)
+Hardy Schilling Not convinced on the 6spd - means more shifting Lightened flywheel - yes, would love one Smaller wheel - coming soon Better seats - coming soon Airdam - I'll look into it Short shift knob - tried one already, but went back to OEM because it feels better Remove mud flaps - did that on the weekend already - check my Insta Cheers!
+Alex Kersten Great to hear :-) One more thing that made a big difference to my MX-5 back in the day: Chassis braces at the bottom of the car (between the left and right lower wishbones of the suspension). www.mx5parts.co.uk/motorsport-front-chassis-brace-mk1-25-p-361.html Its possible that you have these already as Phil is a late year model but if not then its worth looking into :-) And then there is a conversion of the old Airflowmeter to a modern MassAirFlow Sensor. The folks in the German MX-5 forum have made that possible and are providing the necessary parts and guide if I remember correctly.
great to see fuzz townsend on car Throttle can't wait for new serise of car s.o.s and am really exited for more car Throttle videos, thank u Alex and fuzz thanks for advice about classic cars, really helpful
One thing about the boot though. The leak doesn't usually happen around the lip that the seal sits on, but rather it comes through the tail lights. I've lost count of how many leakers have come through the shop with that exact same problem. It's the first place I look nowadays after pulling all the fabric out of the boot and having it on the water for a while.
It would be great to sort of have a company that could check the car for you the way these guys do. Also i remember buying a car years ago that looked great and ran great, 3 hours into the drive home, 3 wheels were flat because there was a crack inside each alloy filled with silicon. I was furious.
Phil is not in that good condition that i thought. In the other CT videos he looked so well. You have to do paintwork on this little buddy. He is worth it
This was really helpful, thanks guys! I'm going to check out a Morris 1000 tomorrow for my first car and it's only £600 but this knowledge will really help :)
The video was really hard to hear but I really got into it and I must say, it was very informative I 'm glad I stayed. Currently looking at g35's (or skyline 350gt) and they're decade old cars already so I really need to see every nook and cranny.
Good breakdown by Fuzz. Car SOS is a great show, can't wait to see season 4. I wish more shows would focus on the mechanical aspects of cars rather than some faux soap opera like drama.
Just my 2 cents... As someone who details cars for a living do not run your hands over the paint of your car with dirty gloves like that :/(especially near the wheel wells were you will pick up sharp brake dust) Those contaminates will scratch the paint significantly anyway sorry i had to cringe at that part. (granted this if its a classic car with nice paint) if its a beater i can understand being a bit more touchy feely. If people are interested I can go into more depth on how to check for resprays and bondo work :)
You're not going to see or feel any filler work if its been done by a professional, but pros can still load it right up if someone wants a cheap quick job, use a magnet on suss areas.
When making a video like this, especially if the vocals are quiet /echoing, leave out the background music. It makes it hard to hear and unbearable to watch. I made it to 2:18 before clicking it off.
+BDAYZ get something you can fit a few body's in. Really helps when you take a cyclist out you can just throw em in the back n drop them off in the local lake.
I rushed into buying my MX5, and I was too exited and I ended up overpaying. That is something you need to look out for, don't let your own excitement get the better of your judgement!
I have bought 2 cars like that and end up regretting it afterwards when I see what's truly wrong with the car and what I have to fix ($). My advice is go with someone else who has some knowledge of cars or has the same car as you are trying to buy they are more likely to point out the bits you didn't because of emotion good luck guys.
Is it maybe possible that you guys could add subtitles? (If it's not too much work..) Quite hard to understand some things because of the camera audio.
Subaru, look for gasket leaks. Anyone can wipe up oil drops before the arrival of a potential buyer, ask to look at the engine bay and get your hands down in each corner of the head gaskets and feel around for any leaking fluids. Learnt from a pain in the ass experience.
He also missed out half the car. A car like that needs a proper look underneath. And to be driven by someone who knows what to listen and feel for. I hate myself for being boring now but it might just save someone a big chunk of money one day!
Hey what's up? What kind of traning does Fuzz have? Im currently attending college and was curious on what formation they have, because that's really what i want to do in my future!
Love this guy, one of the last real car programmes on television. Kudos to him
Ikr
Mighty car mods is above and beyond all imo
yeah the internet's fine but on television there's a real drought of decent car shows nowadays
+PvanP all the money they use to spend on car shows was needed to bail out GM and Dodge lol
I love car S.O.S, I agree wheeler dealers is just dreadful they never take into consideration the amount of labour hours spent on the cars if they did they wouldn't make any profit
First thing to look for when buying an M3 E36: Make sure it's not a lemon.
haha
+Andrei Bucur what does a lemon mean? basically a shitbox?
+Isaac Walker yes
So it can't be a yellow m3? :(
+Isaac Walker usually used to describe a car with hidden problems!
Time to invest in some lapel mic's boys... too much echo in the shop.
and then there's mighty car mods way of doing things...
1 has it got pubes?
yes.
sold.
If only you had this guy around when you bought the M3!
I really like Fuzz. A pleasure to see working and tends to keep things stock-like or at least era correct. Love the Car SOS show!
i am not joking but
you are the best host after clarkson ,may, hammond
never got bored with any of your videos
first things first .... blinker fluid levels
+Dabada then muffler bearing
If Mighty Car Mods has taught me anything, it's that you should always check under the spare tyre in the boot for empty sachets of whey protein
Step 1. Make sure it's a Hyundai Accent. Step 2. Purchase said Accent.
Holy shit, that Space Marine in the backgroud tho!
Alex rocking that Croatian pocket :D
IKR!
ayy lmao
+RiseN yeah but i think it's the fascistic edition... not cool
Watching this video makes me think that I messed up when I bought my car...
Also make sure to check the oil cap for any kind of milky residue as that would be signs of a leaking head gasket. Turn off the a/c and radio so you can hear everything while you are driving and make sure you do a tight figure eight in both directions so you you can test the joints.
Huge Warhammer armor in the back of the garage if I'm not mistaken :D
I noticed that too lol

Fuzz is such a cool guy, really knowledgable as well. Would trust my car to him any day!
Awesome guy! Loved this! Series on record.
Just gonna flick my hotspot on real quick and plug in my headphones as I duck down my head and watch this in class, sshhh don't tell anyone
Good luck m8

The audio quality is terrible.
IKR
+namethatisnottakenyo Yeah it would have been ok for the intro but a 20 minute video? Come on guys you have 1,000,000 subs!
it annoyed me when they didnt have mics
You should really wear a lav mic
I would stay but the sound recording is terrible... I can't understand half of what is said without intense concentration :(
ikr.
get some headphones?
+ZwizzorOtaku I could understand him perfectly, it's a problem at your end.
Jack Hendrix Yeah because you're native.
ZwizzorOtaku I'm far from native English.
now when you go to used car dealerships there will just be random customers feeling up bodywork
Is he really 51? He doesn't look a day over 40. Excellent video, especially the 'Philler' part ;) (yeah I know it's filler but whatever)
That Space Marine armor in the back.
Cars and Tabletop, love it.
It would be great to sort of have a company that could check the car for you the way these guys do.

I never knew about the tire sell by dates. Good information to know! Thanks for another awesome video Car Throttle!
+Dcurleyfry Tyre and battery dates I didn't know about either.
haha good to know I am not the only one. Hi Alex :D my fellow Miata brotherin lol
Fuzz is an absolute legend! Love that guy
This was really helpful, thanks guys! I'm going to check out a Morris 1000 tomorrow for my first car and it's only £600 but this knowledge will really help :)
hi fuzz really enjoy you on the telly keep up the great work you're very inspiring from Mark in Cornwal
nice episode, streight and clear
Look at 0:14. Why is the front driver's side tire facing the wrong way? Do UK drivers only drive in reverse?
Pretty sure they're reversible tread tyres, but alas with the traffic in the UK you may as well drive in reverse
Geek Slant I
Dat Chaos Soldier at 18:50 so bad ass !
very informative video keep it up
+car throttle Is Phil going to get a respray ?
+Luu Kaszz Maybe... 😉
^ +Car Throttle That's a yes then?
+twxntysix It's a maybe
+Pixel dirt it's a yes
+Elijah Meyer no its a maybe
The video was really hard to hear but I really got into it and I must say, it was very informative I 'm glad I stayed. Currently looking at g35's (or skyline 350gt) and they're decade old cars already so I really need to see every nook and cranny.
very helpful indeed
Will be watching car S.O.S now!
+Greig300 Car SOS is awesome!
Well that should be helpful in sometime soon thank you CT and thank you Car S.O.S
Good breakdown by Fuzz. Car SOS is a great show, can't wait to see season 4. I wish more shows would focus on the mechanical aspects of cars rather than some faux soap opera like drama.
congrats on 1million subs!!!! here's to the next million
Great info, great video.
Just programmed series link , cheers guys I love car sos
That warhammer suit in the background... sweet!
I remember when you did the live video with him, and you actually acknowledged me, you made my day when you guys did that!
+Toby Dart Here I am acknowledging you again, Toby Dart!
Love the space marine suit in the background!
You guys need some shirt mics for when your doing in shop narration. It's a pain to hear what you guys are saying.
Also, I like stuff.
its so nice for u to cover how to buy used vehicles cause most of us teenagers only buy used!
Brilliant video
If the price is higher (you stand to lose more) it'd also be a pretty good idea to get the car on a ramp and check the entire underside.
What is all this fuzz about? Oh wait, it is Fuzz!!
Wow
+MK3424 its time to stop
+MK3424 no.
Love that VTEC sticker on a Mazda....
You're not going to see or feel any filler work if its been done by a professional, but pros can still load it right up if someone wants a cheap quick job, use a magnet on suss areas.
at 16:15 what is the car body to the way left of the Porsche I'm curious
Car throttle, you almost got me on April fool about the miata Lol
When making a video like this, especially if the vocals are quiet /echoing, leave out the background music. It makes it hard to hear and unbearable to watch. I made it to 2:18 before clicking it off.
lol nice, thanks 4 the upload. Today I´m checking a used 1996 Nissan Skyline GTS-T :)
Fuzz I saw you at Volksworld!!! you're brilliant!
18:48 warhammer 40k spacemarine statue in the background.
Very imformative video!
have always loved this little car
Car Throttle and Fuzz, two of my favourites in one place :)
Well, isn't this great! I got my license 2 days ago and I'm planning on getting a used car! :D
This will come in handy
good luck on getting somenthing nice
Oskar Kamps thanks!
+BDAYZ get a Miata
CatHeaven It's too expensive where I live, unfortunately. Wouldn't mind getting one, at all
+BDAYZ get something you can fit a few body's in. Really helps when you take a cyclist out you can just throw em in the back n drop them off in the local lake.
Mr townsend what a legend!
love the black templars guy in the back. i really want one
I rushed into buying my MX5, and I was too exited and I ended up overpaying. That is something you need to look out for, don't let your own excitement get the better of your judgement!

Something truly handy indeed
I could listen to Fuzz talk about cars forever.
This was incredible good. he knows his stuff
Nice Space Marine Armor! For the Emporer!!
Car SoS!!!! I LOVE THAT SHOW
That Space Marine in the background!!!
Alex knows how to check car before buying lol
I think they made this video for Alex. #1 should be check for rust, #2 check if lemon haha
+Thomas Marriotti im not sure that he checked hahha
Is it maybe possible that you guys could add subtitles? (If it's not too much work..) Quite hard to understand some things because of the camera audio.
This was a realy good video
19:07 did anyone else notice the suit in the background?
Subaru, look for gasket leaks. Anyone can wipe up oil drops before the arrival of a potential buyer, ask to look at the engine bay and get your hands down in each corner of the head gaskets and feel around for any leaking fluids. Learnt from a pain in the ass experience.
love handle alert!
I think the guy behind the comments is really nice
+Naamlooskanaal He's a real gem
+Car Throttle Perfect timing on this video, guys. I'm buying a car within the next two weeks :D
+Car Throttle whoa I'm early
For the Emprah!
That power armor in the back
Yeah, rub the paintwork with glove full of sand from wheel arches more...
yeah he's scratching the shit out of the car with his dirty gloves shame because he's suppose to be a professional.
Unfortunately this is how many 'professionals' operate. Rubbing dirty gritty hands all over paintwork. I wouldn't let him work on any car of mine.
He also missed out half the car. A car like that needs a proper look underneath. And to be driven by someone who knows what to listen and feel for.
I hate myself for being boring now but it might just save someone a big chunk of money one day!
12:48 i saw my brother on the headligth? whats he doing there? :D
how much rust have the cars in UK?
The fact that i did all those checks let the car salesman break a sweat :D. (i had no clue what was going on but i looked like it )
Right the first thing i did notice in this video there is bad ass space marine behind phil hahahah xD
that space marine in the background!
Hey car throttle I'm getting my first car soon and I'm in the Silvia s13/r34 gtr kinda look. What should i get?
Love fuzz I met him when I was at a show
I love car SOS! They have a RUclips channel?
Hard to hear/listen. Any microphone audio upgrades coming soon?!
oh my i just played a gig with fuzz what a legend :D
Where can I start up a show like the
Whoa I'm looking at getting a 1994 Miata tomorrow, haha so convenient!
How long can a car be used in the UK? I mean the weather is very rainy and the sea is close too.
Hey what's up? What kind of traning does Fuzz have? Im currently attending college and was curious on what formation they have, because that's really what i want to do in my future!
