I have been watching ever since you found this beautiful peterbilt and i just amazed of how you brought this truck back from the dead little by little we want to see her beautiful loud pipes roar
Push lock fitting advice: get the little cam action press they make for connecting fittings to lines & a hose cutter. All the little rubber balls from that die grinder are going to clog up the system & gauges. Keep the vids coming👍🏻
Yep! Standardized wire harness. One company make the same harness for every trunk the same. The factory only plugs in the options the truck is spec'd with. Can make it easier for upgrades later. I.e. a gauge you wanted but the truck didn't come with. Like volts or amp's. Cheaper to buy extra wire than make custom wiring for each truck. Keep up the awsome work.
Dear Mr. 359 TwinSticks. Extremely well done again, Sir! Good for another 40 years now. Maybe rewiring and doing a lot of new air hoses is both a boring work but definitely important and rewarding ones. Congrats for being a so patient and disciplined worker. Best regards luck and health to you.
I'm glad that old girl didn't start on fire with all the bad wires on it, you sure have your self a job on your hand their keep taking one step at a time you'll get their we are all behind you. Besafe God Bless you and your family
Kenworth dealer told me there are extra electrical connections that may go to gauges and switches that the truck was not spec'ed with. Same with missing fuses in the fuse block, depends on what the truck was spec'ed with. Keep up the good work!
You sir have a ton of patience. Paying attention to all the tedious things will definitely pay off in the long run. A labor of love. This old Pete deserves it.
As Christians would say, you have the "patience of Job". Very admirable work you are doing … definitely the labor of love. Best of luck to you on your eventual completion and enjoyment of your classic Pete.
Good job. The problem I run into when working on my 13 year old truck is that while fixing one problem, I find others. Today I had to replace one of three white harnesses in the chassis. The headlight and tail light harness. 15 feet of cable spagitti. While I was there I found two leaking water clamps and more electrical problems. Glad u getting it better. I found that with electrical it’s always better to scrap every thing and just replace all the wires and be done with it. Diag time can add up fast.
Still watching your videos keep picking at it looking good you are lucky you have old school knowledge to do the repair a lot of people don't have that you are lucky thanks for letting us watch we will be waiting for the next video
Enjoy your videos. Look forward to each one so I can see the end product. Your patience is amazing too. I’m restoring an FLC 120, fix one thing and find five more. Lol. Keep up the fight.
As a semi wrecker driver I learned a quick and easy way to remove ujoints. We would use the underlift on the wrecker and lift the tractor by the front steering axel than take a 6x6 block about a foot long or so and stand it on end under the yoke on the drive shaft with the universal joint caps of ujoint clocked at 12 and 6 on the yoke. Make sure block is set back on the yoke and the shaft enough allowing caps to push out of bottom of yoke. At that point we would lower the truck down partially putting considerable pressure on that surface. Than smack the yoke with a 5 lb hammer. It will pop loose with a bang. Make sure you do not have any fingers in an area that might be pinched. It will be caged within the yoke so it can only move a inch or so. You can create the same scenario using a bottle Jack on the drive shaft yoke. That's how I removed the ujoints on my diesel motorhome with a Freightliner chasis. Be safe Good bless!
I believe the manifold is open so it doesn’t matter which hose is on which nipple . Years ago when I opened up my dash to check and add new wires I found a lot of dead ends that I didn’t know anything about , was told some are for factory diagnostics but not sure . Man on camera it looks like a rats nest , I’m sure it’s the 2 dimensional thing going on . Just remember BABY STEPS ! Lol
Dave Kimbler it does look like an open manifold however I don’t believe it is as i tried to put pressure on some of the nipples and it doesn’t flow through so the must be dedicated lines inside. Also on of them actually flows oil for the pressure gauge.
I've got a '99 Pete 378 with a crane on the back. I've taken the dash off a few times to get the tach working, I really admire your dedication to this project, it cannot be as easy as it looks! (it doesn't look easy!)
You doing the right thing. Trust me, air leaks never happen at a convenient time or place. I lost all air pressure right in the middle of a 4 lane intersection. I heard cuss words that I never knew existed which is pretty amazing since I grew up in a Navy home. A labor of love is never easy.
lol, when you showed that wrench at 11:25 I thought you had turned so many lines until it snapped off in your hand. I was impressed and scared all at the same time.
I don't know what you used to clean under the dash but in the past I have used brake cleaner to clean all the electrical and airlines and I never had any issues, I just gave it plenty of time to dry and it worked awesome.
Got love the old wiring and hoses. If I remember right... those extra wire were in the standard wiring harness for different gauges that came with the model and didn't come with a model.
You have the patience of Job! Lol - I’d have opened that dash (and have on mine) and just got cross-eyed. But you’re right, one line and one wire at a time - it’s time consuming and no doubt tedious, but well worth it - Great job 👍
Rumour has it those crimped on factory fittings are actually a barbed fitting with a ferrule. Which means if you cut the crimped section off you can reuse the factory fittings and add a hose clamp.
That wiring is not as bad as it looks, just remember the light wires were the biggest problem with these old Ladies, dimmer, and combination turn and dim on the column, also I still need to add a air dump switch and valve. It's hard to pull out from under a load, and it's easier to hook up when bags are dumped. Great job hoss ,see yah on the next episode.
Some hose cutters like Lisle #11420 would be handy so you don’t have to use the cutoff wheel in the cab or also introducing the rubber pieces into the line. We use them on rubber pressure hose and they work great.
Wow....lol....wiring....omg, what a mess it is usually. I just love filing through someone else's misunderstandings and lazy habits with wiring! What I particularly liked is the 'knob-and-tube- style wiring job for the turbo! lol Your homemade wrench was a brilliant idea. Glad to see your making good progress. You will quite enjoy the luxury of knowing everything was done cleanly, and properly when you and your family are out on the road. It's probably too late now, but I would have suggested you make some spare hoses for things that you might think would be subject to wearing out the most. You could have made a spare, emergency kit. A bag with fittings, spare hose pieces, blank hose, knife, mini-wrench, etc.
fizixx ... can’t fault the previous owners too much on the wiring - many times a quick fix is required to get the truck back on the road right away vs my multi-year project. Good tip on the spares ... I already put some hose, connectors and tools in the sleeper for just such an occasion
Alright fella. I gotta admire ur patience doing the work on wiring and air lines. I would have given up in minutes 😂 ur doing a fabulous job mate as usual 👍 thanks for the post. Regards from south London England 🏴
here is a wild idea to save money and freshen up the interior looks. Go get some mild old pallets, do a light sanding and add some polyurethane to them and install in the cab. I used old barn lumber on the over head area on my "84 362. Man did it look great!
Ugh, I CANNOT stand coming in behind people that bubble gum and duct tape things back together. I had to sell a car I bought because the moron had everything held together with crimp connectors, t-splices, and wire tape. People really just need to leave shit alone unless they're going to do it correctly, all skipping steps does is cause more issues down the road. Glad to see you're taking your time and doing this stuff the correct way!
I'll recomend you, to add a metal tie in each connection of new black and yellow cables (minute 8:19) Thanks for this amazing video, video after video your work is fantastic!!!!
This guy is a machine. A truck terminator. Working on his back in the snow at 0°F etc. I whine when it gets below 50°F in the bay area where I live. Keep on keepin on. Don’t quit. I’m sure this has been asked dozens of times: Is there any chance you can get inside a heated shed with a concrete floor? Make your life easier?
I should probably get out more but I do actually like rebuilding old wiring harnesses and getting everything to work. Add ins and splices trigger my OCD! Getting back to 'factory' adds a lot to the value as well. Good move on the air lines as well. As usual nice to see you making steady progress mate. KBO Sir ... KBO ...
Unused connectors like that are usually for added features your truck didn't come with. Keep up the good work, I know how tedious it is combing through all that wiring and air lines.
Great job on the truck keep the videos comin. That airline should be able to cut with utility knife. If you have a lot of hoses to replace like on the manifold colored zip ties come in handy. Just my 2 cents. Looks like you got your manifold taken care of though, so keep on truckin.
Lot times the factory has only a few different wiring harnesses they use, therefore if the truck doesn't have that option it will have a plug to nothing, this use to be more common, now there are more wiring harness options to drop costs, new ones are very nicely labeled, at least on Paccar (Kenworth and Peterbilt) really nice when replacing harnesses
Oooooomg i am maintaining my patiences i know she's not ready for the road yet. I feel you, you want her road ready so keep picking away at her brooo!!!!
Nice going on your end again :) I did get my Fiat Scudo yesterday to almost fixed and today ti inspection office, I had to leave it there because they where too busy so ´they call me that lots of things to fix on this month (like rotten things what must be replaced, too weak brakes and some other things :( )... Puuh, life sucks :) Last owner did say that gasket is gone but we did start to think that reason to boiling is fan what don't rune when water gets hot. Fan works when it has direct power from battery but not on you own even water start to be +90c (thermostat did open +82-83c).
Round access cover was at one time used on some of their trucks to remove a drive cover for some Detroit and Cat engines !! To get the blower drive shaft out on DD engines think 8-71s or Cat old 1693 !!

Something I use a lot of for marking electrical connections and air lines while working in the field is telephone wire.there's like 30 different colors and it's simple to cut and wrap won't rub off like sharpy or break like colored zip ties
Cutting rubber hose with a death wheel, eh? lol. I picked up a little hose cutter when I did heater hoses in my 79 Chevy pickup and it just blew through that hose like butter and left a nice clean cut. You should pick one up. Think it was $12 on Amazon.
One thing, when you are sticking your hands in the cubbyhole for the electrical and air fittings, remove your rings. 20 amps is nothing but if a wire touches a ring it will heat up instantly to the point that your finger will no longer be a friend to you. Even with the key off, some systems stay energized. Yes sometimes you have to modify tools to get the job done and sometimes they do not even make a tool so you cut or modify yours but in the oil and gas sites they say no modified tools, you tell me how that is possible lol.
Keep up the good work I personally don’t have the patience and luckily for me my old man built my 379 but of coarse he left no diagrams or notes lol but well deal with that when we get there
As the old saying goes "a grinder and paint will make you the welder you ain't".
Little by little adds up to alot. Keep on truckin' 🥾
So lucky it didn't catch fire behind the dash! You saved it! Awesome job👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I have been watching ever since you found this beautiful peterbilt and i just amazed of how you brought this truck back from the dead little by little we want to see her beautiful loud pipes roar
13 minutes of an open dash full of old air lines and wires.....sweet!!!!
Look forward to your videos thanks for bringing us along while you restore it! Awesome job!
Push lock fitting advice: get the little cam action press they make for connecting fittings to lines & a hose cutter. All the little rubber balls from that die grinder are going to clog up the system & gauges. Keep the vids coming👍🏻
Ridin 1 ya I realized that early on and started blowing them out before putting the fittings on
A fun day at the Peterbilt ranch. Keep going things are better all ready.

Binged watched every episode love the restore
I am doing this 5 years later. This guy is my new hero.
Steady pace no rush and she is one step closer to being done. Looking good.
You forget how many little jobs there are, great work

A labor of love. This old Pete deserves it.
The old, classic technique deserves to get a second life. Good job. Greetings from Russia.
Look's like it's coming together nicely for the amount of work to be done.
Ahh, you made me smile...lol Happy to help.. Your making good head way and hey check out the mirror, you still have hair! So it's a win win..
Splendid.🤩I love learning these new tricks from you old guys.
You get rain too! Patience is a virtue. Pity its going to be hidden behind the dash be a work of art.
I wish I had your patience!! You’re unbelievably calm as you work amongst all the spaghetti behind the dash of the old girl!!
Wow what an amazing amount of patience you must have to tackle that...great to see you’re doing such a nice job of the truck tho 👍🏻
As Christians would say, you have the "patience of Job". Very admirable work you are doing … definitely the labor of love. Best of luck to you on your eventual completion and enjoyment of your classic Pete.
Wow this is a labor of love. Now you know way these old trucks get parked in a feld and left for dead.
That wiring is my worst nightmare. At least Peterbilt was nice enough to number them individually.
Good job. The problem I run into when working on my 13 year old truck is that while fixing one problem, I find others.

It will all pay off in the end, great job. You have a lot of patience.
Some 5th Wheel RVs can optionally have air brake conversions.
Can't wait to see what it looks like when coupled!

Great job on the truck love when u are doing

359 TwinSticks if your oil pressure gauge runs through it then they are separate compartments , my oil pressure gauge did not run through mine .

I love your videos, I have learned a lot about this kind of rebuild. I have my eye on a single bunk 359ex. Thanks for all your great films
Liked before I even watched 🇯🇲🇯🇲
876hkpm same!
Keep going, little by little. Loving the updates, even the small ones.
Connectors that don't go anywhere can be fairly common on trucks
You doing the right thing. Trust me, air leaks never happen at a convenient time or place. I lost all air pressure right in the middle of a 4 lane intersection. I heard cuss words that I never knew existed which is pretty amazing since I grew up in a Navy home. A labor of love is never easy.

Keep plugging at My friend, the HARD WORK WILL PAY OFF!!!! LUV the #PACCAR CLASSICS
I enjoyed your update. I always look forward to them. Keep up the great work.
Who are these people that don’t like these videos? Probably people who don’t like those willing to tackle hard projects for enjoyment.
This is going to be such a nice truck when its done
So cool to see how far you have come from the first episode!! Enjoy this almost as much as watching football on Sunday lol Keep hammering down!!!
Good stuff , keep plugging at it. In the end you will look back at your work and know it was worth it.
Doing well buddy MCL from steve Australia
Awesome truck man can’t wait to see the end result 👍🏽🇺🇸

I always used spit on those hose connectors. You always have some with you.
On my pete they have extra wires for gauges that werent factory and extra power/ground wires for accessories and wires for lights hooked into the existing light circuits, might be some of your extra wiring connectors there .....
You can buy special hose/tube cutters, like secateurs from a hardware place. A lot easier and neater than a grinder.
Most of those open connectors that don't go anywhere are probably for options your truck didn't come with. That manifold is open inside so it don't matter where the airlines hook up. I may have been the one to suggest the ratchet strap for the tire. Not sure if anybody else made that comment. Don't stop now, you almost got her licked!
титанический труд,уважение
Pls do more time lapses instead of cut scenes it makes the video longer and more interesting.. !
Those are nice hands you got there
Something I use a lot of for marking electrical connections and air lines while working in the field is telephone wire.there's like 30 different colors and it's simple to cut and wrap won't rub off like sharpy or break like colored zip ties
