  • Easter Sunday I travelled to Doncaster to stay in Doncaster overnight to visit the York Model Rail Show but while in South Yorkshire I decided to visit a disused station which is north of Doncaster Station on the East Coast Main Line between Doncaster and York.
The journey from Doncaster takes SimOnTrains on a Northern Class 331 to Bentley Station and then a 20 minute walk to a level crossing on the East Coast Main Line near the village of Arksey which see LNER Azumas, Hull Trains, Grand Central Trains and CrossCountry Trains. the location is very interesting.

One of best stations for spotting Doncaster in 80’s especially with all freight when the pits were open. Bentley got a big travelling community.

This was yet another fantastic Simontrains Railway Journey where you visited Arksey a disused Railway Station where sadly nothing remains there apart from the level crossing it certainly looks like a decent location to film trains at speed at that level crossing I continue to enjoy watching your content Simontrains and I look forward to watching many more of your future Vlogs until then carry on being awesome keep up the good work take care and stay safe

Nice vlog Simon. Great to see the disused Station. I’ve not been to the Doncaster area for a few years now! The crossing and station look brilliant for Trainspotting.

Hi Simon Great video, I noticed at 0.59 and 1.00 and 1.02 that there are still some of the old line speed posts (metal with the arrows pointing left or right and the numbers on top), I had thought these had all been replaced by the newer red and white circles, but obviously not. Well done on capturing those. Thanks

Interesting, disused railway locations Is a favourite aspect of the hobby. I looked up my (usually trusty) Disused Stations web site but Arksey wasn’t listed . Anyway, cheers.

Think the Disused Stations website doesn't have then all listed yet as they're till working on visiting them. Rail Map Online or National Library of Scotland for the OS Maps are two areas I love to go to when looking at Disused Stations. Thanks Michelle

    Good interesting video again Simon!
I'll be honest, I would have felt very intimidated by those three youths at the level crossing and I would have left the scene as fast as I could.
I admire you for standing your ground. 👍🙂

Very good location to do train spotting to the north of Doncaster. Mind you those kids do look like they were causing trouble whilst a train was passing by and there has been lots of trespassing resulting in fatalities on the railways.

Just notice your message and went to research the location straight away and honestly. It got me interested in visiting the Disused Station (Old Railway Station) now as I can see the old platforms still remains. Not going to lie, I can see this as a good location to reopen a former station. Next time in Yorkshire I come down and have a look.
