    Thank you for sharing your day in Glasgow Simon, I have enjoyed watching.
    Me and my sister were in Glasgow for a couple of days early last week. We went to the Riverside museum & loved it, we were there for about 3 hours. On the Monday evening, we did the entire Glasgow underground - first the outer circle then the inner circle. On the inner circle, we were lucky enough to travel on one of the old units (No. 203). We knew that the second generation units were on borrowed time, but we didn't realise that they would be withdrawn later in the week, so we are glad we rode one of them when we did.
    The new units are nice but yes, we noted that they gave quite a rough ride - a bit like the big dipper at Blackpool Pleasure Beach lol.

    Time for the Glasgow Subway to expand - but to tunnels with main line dimensions.

    The new Glasgow Subway trains are so futuristic compare to the older Subway trains. Maybe Stadler should manufacture new tube trains to replace the 1972 Stock on the Bakerloo Line.

    Your video really captures just how shooglie the new trains are. I almost felt seasick on my first bash on one, which was never an issue on the old trains.

      He was there on a Tuesday during work hours so wasn't so busy - especially with people working from home nowadays. Cessnock/Ibrox are residential stations hence not very busy, you'd find the same on the London Underground network!

    Great video. I went to Glasgow from Ireland on the 1st and 2nd of June to see if I could get my first and last ride on one of the nice 2nd generation stock trains. I went to Cowcaddens station and waited for a good 20 minutes. All the trains were the new stock and I was getting really disheartened that I missed out on the last of the 2nd gen stock. Luckily one came and it was a delight to see it and ride in it. I did the full circle in it. I think that was the only set in use that day but I’m not sure. This was about 9am in the morning (I just arrived into Glasgow from Dublin). I have to agree, the 2nd gen stock feels much better built and the ride quality was excellent compared to the new stock. The seating is definitely not as comfortable as the old stock. In Dublin, a similar thing is happening with the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) system in the next year or so. They are replacing the 1st generation of DART trains from 1983/84 and I even the newer 2nd generation stock from the early 2000s. They are supposedly getting replaced by overhead wired and battery powered trains (combined) to save on the expense of putting wires overhead from Malahide to Drogheda. The 84 stock is still almost original with its seating and exterior. A few modifications were made to them in the mid 2000s by Siemens of Germany to include screen displays and more handles to hold onto for standing passengers.

    Me and my brother were there literally the day before you and we managed to have one last ride on the old train, we got on at St Enoch and rode the whole circuit. We also went to the riverside museum and saw the one there too. We said the same thing about the new trains, they were very very wobbly! We were only in Glasgow for a couple of days but we love the Subway, it's great for getting about 😊

      Yes I have heard about this today, saw a email that came from the press from West Midlands Trains. Using the Class 730/2s. They won't be new services but a extension of the Crewe to London Euston service. instead of terminating at Crewe would carry on to Warrington Bank Quay and then onto Manchester Victoria via Earlstown. (I would get a direct service from Rugeley to Manchester without changing at Stafford or Crewe, if they do go ahead) The Manchester Airport one is going to be a extension of the Stafford to Crewe shuttle via Stoke-on-Trent. Not sure on the rolling stock planned for that one.

    These new Glasgow trains remind me of the old Island Line trains. They look terrible from your video. Being disabled there's limited if any stations I could board at. I'm in Glasgow later this month. Why did you alight at Preston as its no where near Crewe or Stafford for your Rugeley Train? Sorry for being nosy!

    • @Sim0nTrains
      @Sim0nTrains  3 месяца назад

      @@johnroberts2331 there some that stations that do have lifts and some that don't and the reason I got off at Preston was so I could get something to eat, if I went to Crewe would be after 9pm to get a bite to eat, was planned to do that in Glasgow but time was against me

    That's *a lot* of positioning balises along the platform tracks. What sort of ATP/ATC system are they using?

    • @Sim0nTrains
      @Sim0nTrains  3 месяца назад +1

      Have to look this one up as I'm not sure but The existing rolling stock of Glasgow Subway is fitted with a centralised train control system known as the Automatic Train Operation System.

    • @Monothefox
      @Monothefox 3 месяца назад

      @@Sim0nTrains It's apparently an Ansaldo STS (now Hitachi) system, but the ones I'm familiar with from that manufacturer only use *two* double balises per platform track, each pair located about 1/4 of the platform length in from each platform end. (The balises are doubled for availability reasons; one balise per pair can malfunction without affecting system performance.)
