Wayfaring Stranger is an old folk song that’s been around since the early 1800s. Many artist have performed it. It’s based in the folk gospel genre and has had many wonderful performances.
Beautiful! I’ve always loved Jack Whites rendition, but one day while listening to his, I came across this and was blown away. ❤
Extraordinary voice wide ranging performances
She is the set artist of the time we are in. Her collabs are changing the country too and the world of music will never be the same. She is a gift. My favorite is still we could fly.check out our native daughters too. Each of those ladies are amazing solo. Seriously check out factory girl and then freedom highway album. She is amazing.
Every artist she collaborates with is a high quality musician. The same goes for each of these individual musicians too. So, I keep on discovering great musical artists thanks to Rhiannon Giddens.
The first known English publication of this song was in the mid 1800s. Covered by many artists like Ralph Stanley,Bob Dylan,, and Johnny Cash. A traditional folk standard.
Recorded so beautifully in the Guildhall, Derry
Love her. Check her out when she was part of Carolina Chocolate Drops
Carolina Chocolate Drops, and The New Basement Tapes are where many might know her from. She's got a lovely voice and plays multiple instruments.
I love CCD's Snowden's Jig but being an instrumental, she just plays fiddle there. The New Basement Tapes is Bob Dylan songs done by Rhiannon, Elvis Costello, Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Marcus Mumford (Mumford and Sons), Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), and it's a toss-up whether I place Spanish Mary or Lost On The River #20 higher as my favorites from them.
Thanks for the info! I hadn't heard of her before so this was a pleasant surprise. 😊👍
More more more
Beautiful. I love this version. I’d always loved Jack White’s rendition then I saw this one. Both excellent. I started checking out more of her music and it’s amazing. Thx for checking this one out!
Ow, this is great, i'm a metalhead but she is so so good, listen to her for a year now.
I haven't seen reaction on her before, but then most of the time i''m searching for metal.
Thanks
This video I believe is when she was on Nashville
5-string fretless banjo, wow! That's awesome. BTW, the earliest known version of this song is around 1858.
All is perfect, but I miss Jinjer reactions.. Pleas react to "Who is gonna be the One" by Jinjer..
They're coming, don't worry! 😊
@@JWSoundworks2 Frankly saying I love all your reactons (indeed not usual for me), and intros as well. Very well made, a pleasure to hear? thank you!
You are of true type of "reactors" who are able to give both the emotinal and exact professional feedback.
@@TheKotofoto very kind of you to say so. Thank you very much. 👌😊
The Smithsonian did a special on tour with her and I was at that show so that was cool
She lives in Ireland but from North Carolina she sings from slave narratives and folk history.
Thanks I asked for her and Perhaps some else did too. She lives in Dublin… I was astonished at her Mouth Music and La Vie En Rose because she is so excellent at speakjng and singing in languages not her own. As I think I mentioned She studied Opera and plays several instruments… I like her Don’t call me Names and she does Birmingham Sunday , a song I think she may have written about the three girls blown up in a church in the 50s civil rights. Not quite gospel which is not your fave
Thanks!
'Birmingham Sunday' was written by Richard Fariña in the 1960s.
