Trained as an Opera singer at Oberlin college Music school, plays multiple instruments
Hi Don, absolutely love Rhiannon, either solo or w/her former band The Carolina Chocolate Drops. Her music is really the mix or roots of almost all genres of music. She does an amazing live version of an old Sister Rosetta Tharpe gospel song "Up Above My Head". I did not know anything about Sister Rosetta but efter hearing Rhiannon do this cover I checked into her and found out everything Rhiannon said was true. Another good song of hers is " Shake Sugaree", but my absolute fsvotitevis very sad song called "At The Purchasers' Option". Don THANKS so much for this re-up.
Rhiannon share a musical space that includes one my favorite roots/blues musicians Taj Mahal. Their catalogs help preserve a historical heritage of music that will never be top forty material but is so much important in the scope things.
I loved her with the Carolina Chocolate Drops....but she is destined to be an up front singer....beauty and talent off the charts.
She's classically trained as well and was an Opera singer.
I'm more than happy to listen to Rhiannon again. This woman has a fabulous voice!
I started learning the banjo earlier this year and while looking for banjo songs ran across Louisiana Man. This is a great song and she is a great performer. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find this song for download. If you know where I can find it please let me know. Thank you for posting this video.

Rhiannon is a great artist. I love the way she can take a song that you think you know and then bring a completely new life to it --- it's amazing. I'm thinking right now of Wayfaring Stranger, but there are many, many more. Great choice from the archives Don!

Don, you need to hear her do Patsy Cline's song Crazy. Ken Burns did an 8 part documentary on the origins (and singers) of Country music. In the tribute to Patsy Cline, Rhiannon sang Crazy. I think she will knock your socks off.

My first time hear her voice was on Eric Church's Kill a Word. Oh MY! She is up there with Chris Stapleton in my opinion with her vocals and playing. And why isn't her music all over the airwaves and web?!
