99.9% I was in Juvie for several offenses back in 1979. Not much has changed. I came out worse then when I went in. For me juvie was better than home & all the abuse I suffered there. The girls I met had the same abusive backgrounds. It was like a relief to be away from home.

@ I went to my State’s Corrections Officer Academy. It’s the best way to become one. However many agencies require a degree in Criminal Justice. I have a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice Administration and it helped SO much. Hope this helps! They have courses on dealing with the individuals, also have debriefings after major incidents, and I had my counselor to speak with which helped tremendously. It’s not easy but definitely doable. definetly, as a 14 year old who was put in a cell at the age of 13. my mom raised 6 kids with no father figure and she became agressive and emotionally, physically, mentally, and verbally abusive towards us, yes she was trying for us but she ruined my childhood. not just her many people. im trying to change my ways and not be percieved as a monster. im just a child who was never heard growing up and still deep down a child.
seeing them all together talking about their friends and romances, drives home that they are *children.* i hope they'll get to lead happy free lives and make up for all that lost time.

So many TV documentaries I've watched on incarceration have been those at facilities based in the contiguous US. The documentary about youth in Canadian prisons may be one of those rare ones out there available on RUclips.
As a youth worker in a residential care home it broke my heart at some of the scenarios the young people told me. I wanted to take them home but knew it wasn't a good choice instead I became someone who was consistent, truthful & caring for them. Having someone in their corner made a huge difference, not all people who work with young people are their for the right reasons. Unfortunately
I feel really sad for Diamond and Phoenix...what could have gone wrong. Why they did stupid things again...especially Diamond...they could have met and live together...... I think the society outside the Juvenile house is much harder that made them did a mistake again.

This is many times the outcome and children who grow up in the system are 80% more likely to end up in crime and addiction than children born to capable and financially and emotionally stable parents. I was a Juvenile Corrections Officer and from. My experience many times the issues they deal with are from their parents.
