Spent a huge amount of time trying to learn Jimmy Page stuff when learning to play guitar in the 1980s. This is really impressive. So many people just can't let it flow like Page and it sounds wooden and over rehearsed. This is really great guitar playing - and understanding of how Page plays. Getting all the subtleties, while not missing anything.
This is by far the best cover I've heard in years. Perfect example on why using a lower tone nails JP so much more than everyone else using as much distortion as they can. Awesome work!!
Youre right, its the edge of overdrive thang.. not distortion. Im just using an Analog Alien Joe Walsh pedal into a clean Fender DR amp. The pedal is modeled after an old Fender amp pushed into OD. And it has a compressor which is part of it. Thanks for the compliment...
It’s just like how Edward Van Halen did it in the old days. He didn’t use a distortion pedal or overdrive, he turned his amp up until speaker saturation. He had mild mods done later but the main sound was getting a nice tone of the guitar and amp, then cranking it. I am so glad that you mentioned “compressor”, because JP really did use compression. When you put a guitar straight through an amp, it will cause some of the highs, squeaks to burst out too loud, and the compressor will level all those to where they don’t just jump right out at you. Just like Alex Lifeson of Rush, he used Jimmy’s technique in getting his tone and so did Ed Van Halen and many others. Cheers, that was some great playing of “possibly” my favorite Zeppelin song, but I love too many to say that this song is my favorite. There’s nothing like a cold beer and Zeppelin … and classic Van Halen to me. 👍👍👍👍
you see how physically and mentally demanding the is on the guitar...not to mention the other guitar tracks harmonizing....amazing cover...amazing writing and soul
I may have mentioned this before but when JP plays this at Madison Square live on a bloody 12 string!, that has to be one of greatest pieces of electric guitar work. His speed is incredible.
Defining moment back in the day for me when I knew Page was THE man…was when I spun this LP for the first time. Was blown away. This song and Achilles always get me. Chills. Thanks for posting! Really enjoyed this…
Well done, those oldies are still the best. I am convinced Page improvised most of this stuff in the studio as well as he did live lol. I taught myself how to play by listening to Zeppelin, Hendrix, Sabbath and a bunch more in early 70s. I then played with some pretty famous folks in the mid and late 70s but ruined my claim to fame because I was more focused on the sex and drugs part than I was on rock n roll. It slipped out of my hands and before I knew it I found myself alone in a room with just a Gibson, a Marshall and a syringe, and no-one to play with except for some chick... ah well, I got out in time to live and tell the tale.
@@ghenny69420 Yep, but I don't like name dropping and you know what they say: what happens backstage stays backstage (unless it's a serious crime of course) 🤘😎🤘
Just loved this. It’s such a great song a masterpiece. Now I can clearly see it. Page is master craftsman of lead rhythm, Playing, Playing Leads with the rhythms, edit, and here it really shows all his lead lines. Are chord movements , lines
This is what makes sessions players stand out from other guitarists. He was a session player before a band member and forming zeppelin. In lamens terms "diversity " and not locked into a band in a box.
@@GerardWaysHun20 Cheers ..You're a Gentleman.. My playing is a bit rough atm. I got this problem with my hands called 'trigger finger' tendon damage..But I'm going to master that No Quarter solo .I'm determined too. Need to study it more
@@GerardWaysHun20 I still keep coming back to this again and again. Really impressive the amount of time you must have put into this to get it so spot on. Did you notate it or tab ?
@@JonGUK No I learned it from the transcription in "The Complete Studio Recordings: Authentic Guitar TAB" by Alfred. Every studio Zep song, very accurate. Highly Recommended.
I've played guitar since 1987..fulltime since 2006 ..You nailed it! Always wanted to learn it and your version sounds right in my ears. Best wishes Arvid Nilsen Bodø Norway
That was amazing! I hadn't realized it before, but seeing this I realized that some of Page's country-flavored licks had come out quite a bit earlier than I thought. Great playing man!
Wow. F ing 10 out of 10. I love playing but. You have the best camera angle . 99 percent of vids u can’t really see. Especially page. U can’t make out what fret s etc he is hitting but yours is perfect.
thanks man. great work. I can play this just from watching you and I always wanted to play this since I bought the album the day it was released. yeah I'm ancient. thanks again.
Excellent buddy. Keep up the good work. We will have more requests like whole lotta love n dazed n confused from the song remains the same album live. Luv ya, appreciate ya.
Thanks for the kind words. My plan is to complete the Dazed live transcription in its entirety and then eventually put up my own cover. A tall order but I'm determined to do so. And eventually share the backing track for other guitarists out there. Also plan on transcribing at least the Boogie section of WLL and Since I've Been Loving You from TSRTS.
So nice. Players who play with guts without a shitload of gain have my respect. So many rely on hi gain, not that is a bad thing, but they freak out at lower output of pickups and amps. Speaking of which, what is the amp or amps you are using? Software, whatever?
The "Coolest Guy in Manhattan" suddenly became the 5th Coolest Guy in Manhattan the minute Led Zeppelin hit the stage in1973
The creative fire was burning white hot when Page composed this number.
Jimmy is a guitar genius and anyone who can cover it this well is Uber talented. 😊

Jimmy wrote this as a intro and combined it al la carte parts, into a entree being the first full entree of tsrts.

I simply cannot believe all the people saying "How intricate" and "How did Page write something so Amazing?" Because Jimmy is a FREAKING MASTER!!
Why can you not believe it?
Simple as.
OSOZ - Great job.
Page - great job.
The unmatched genius of Jimmy Page...you nailed it, dude...kudos !
How am I only just now discovering this? Fantastic!
the half speed section at the beginning will forever have a place in my head can’t get enough of it
thanks for being simple and not including all the other unnecessary b.s like the other how to's, i hate fancy crap
THATS BRILLIANT
Never seen a picking technique like that! Great cover

What I want to know is how the fuck anyone can write like this. It's beyond incredible.
That was GREAT! 2 Thumbs up!
Amazing. Thank you!
Amazing to think how page put it all together AND played the leads on a 12-string!
He was Master of the "Guitar Army" in the studio.
Big Zeppelin / Page fan since forever. Very cool, nicely done!!
✌😬
IMO, one of the best rock songs ever written.
Well done!

Can You FATHOM writing this tune?
How about Orchestrating & Arranging it?
Producing it?

Fender 68 reissue Deluxe Reverb and an Analog Alien Joe Walsh pedal which is half compressor half gain..recorded on a cell phone.. thats it basically
