I've been a Zeppelin fan since '78 (I was 10) and this is one of my favorites. IMO it's one of the most beautiful songs ever written. This video was a YT suggestion and one of the best I've seen in a long time. Great playing, instruction, and tone. You have a new subscriber my friend. : )

This is where Jimmy turns from Rock Star into an ingeneous classical composer and still manages to keep It cool to a Rock & Roll audience,, such a brilliant piece of music ,, TY Brother,,,,Great Job!! 😎✌✝💕
Superb! The perfect tutorial thanks for sharing man!! Jimmy Page was so advanced and ahead of his time a truly great songwriter and player, full of emotion, awesome 🤘
Perfect description, a brilliant musical brain. He could create any mood with a guitar and transport you to infinite dimensions of fuzz infused awesomeness. 😂🙌🏻
I've seen a lot of crazy tunings for this song, but this is the one my own teacher years ago showed me and it's tonally correct. Thank you for this lesson, thoughtfully done as well.
That’s really cool Doug! Thanks for the comment. Yeah, someone was giving me a load of abuse because I said in the introduction that “we are learning it my way because my way is the best way.” 😂 I was only joking because I’m pretty sure 99% of what I’m doing is how Jimmy played it live. That’s also why I tossed my pick at the end, littleEaster egg for the Zeppelin addicts out there! Wish people weren’t so angry. ❤️
@@SpedSpedding So much debate and drama over how LZ did things. In your other video you point out rightly that they changed tape speeds, which they did a lot, which makes things sound very different. You keep doing what you're doing, you have a new subscriber because of it.

Can’t wait to start learning this tomorrow morning!! Jimmy Pages brilliance is on full display with this amazing song. Thank you for the best instruction video I’ve ever encountered for this song.
Sped, this lesson (and all your Led Zeppelin lessons) are really just incredible... I'm a huge Jimmy Page fan and after scouring the web for lessons to play his music, I've found that you are the single very best source. Thanks so much and God bless you.
Totally awesome, one of my favorite live songs of all time beautiful song can you play it masterfully. I’m just starting to learn guitar and this is always been one of the songs I want to learn may take a while but I’m gonna keep working on it thanks for all your videos
You know what, because a lot of it is open strings and arching your fingers over, there will be a lot of it that you can get down even if you’re just starting out. Go for it. Play what you love.
Absolutely outstanding! This is one of my favorite songs and in my opinion a masterpiece. Thank you for taking the time to teach it. Fantastic as always!
I’ve heard/read that Jimmy is self-taught and cannot read music, which makes this composition and his career all the more remarkable…music is a gift, and he worked hard at his craft, obviously, this tutorial is fantastic, well done!
He was a session player early on and said "In the initial stages they just said, play what you want, cos at that time I couldn't read music or anything." But I strongly suspect that like many musicians he studied his craft to a great extent and even if not proficient at sight reading, he learned how after a while of being a session player. It's just not all that difficult to learn and is the language of music. Great tutorial by the way, an easy piece to play and quite beautiful.
I absolutely agree. Your way is indeed the best way indeed. In fact, I've been playing along with your previous rain song vid for months now and my Strat is permanently in that funky tuning. Thanks so much!

I'm a vocalist but I always think about the writing too. I would enjoy for Jimmy to play the hundred ways that didnt work until he got it where he wanted. And the timing. Did he knock this out? Get stuck on a bit for a month? Did he start it, and years later the rest fell into place?
Sped! Damn you! I've been avoiding this lesson for about a year. My fav Zep song on my fav Zep record. I've been playing it for years... wrongly, of course. I guess my lazy self wouldn't allow the challenge. I would like to thank you for what you do because it's so important... not kidding. Not only do you allow many of us mediocre guitarists the ability to be better, the amount of time you save everyone is incredible! I couldn't do this on my own. Not only that, but you expose the true talent and genius of someone like Mr. Page, who I have to admit, I've taken for granted the past two decades. Growing up with the music you just kind of expect it. You've given us new found appreciation, which is never a bad thing. Gawd Sped brother!
Great lesson. I learned it by ear in standard tuning many, many years ago. When I learned Jimmy used an open tuning it made all the difference in the world. I've been playing it like this for 30+ years now, is there another way I'm unaware of? This is how Page plays it, although live I think he used a slightly different variation of the tuning.
Haha, yeah you're right. The opening was just my excuse to be a bossy wizard. And also a message to any potential trolls, if I claim I am teaching it my own way exact how can I ever be wrong?
I've played this song in a weird tune before too I think EADADE but I'd have to double check. This is definitely the right way Sped plays and he's incredible player and a character just like musicians should be 😁😎🤙
As good as this lesson is, its hard to believe that Page came up with all of this, which is where his genius was. Incredible lesson thank you Mr Gandalf.

So I've taken your tuning, and your various fingerings, then I've got the sheet music out, and gone through it all, right up to the end where that outro comes in (haven't looked at that yet). Pretty much everything you've done lines up bloody well perfectly (I even went through the mental gymanstics of converting all of your notes to check against the sheet music, good fun!) Great job my friend one of my favorites from Zeppelin. Your lessons are excellent easy to understand especially for us bass players who moonlight as guitarist lol. Best to you & Gabby.
I racked my brain trying to figure this out in standard tuning when I was a kid. Finally, I met a guy that had played it at a music festival and he told me how its done.
Totally with you on this. Baffles me when people watch, dislike and then complain about it. Do they just sit at home watching Channel 4 complaining for an hour how shit the program is? No you change the channel. 😂😂😂

Wow, I bet that’s something? Is it red? 🤭✨
@@SpedSpedding No it’s blue. All original parts except for a few screws for the pick up switching.
@@steverush6960 Sounds like a beaut! My LP is basically now like a modded gun from a COD game. Haha.
Fantastic!! Thank you for showing me how to play this song I have admired for soooo many years!!
You're very welcome!
wow ! I am impressed! The rain song is one of the most difficult songs I know of played on the guitar! I learned it differently maybe 45 years ago not even aware of a different tuning. but unfortunately I've quit for some time now due to arthritis in my fingers. Thanks for sharing
Thanks! Sorry to hear about that. Do you not play at all anymore? Arthritis can be very severe I know.
Omg! You're amazing😀thank you so much. This is the best lesson on Rain song on the internet😀
Ah thank you so much. Big comment, love it. Have fun learning it. ❤️☔️
Such an underrated Zep song.
Please continue with Zeppelin tutorials. They are great. Maybe Trampled Under Foot next?
Oh my favourite zep tune is here😃
This realy is a musical masterpiece
And i've loved it even more after watching your cover
A good lesson was really needed since it has massive guitar work
I'm sure yours is awsome as always sped
Thanks a lot for all your work
Keep the great lessons going
It’s one of my favourites too. Fills me with nostalgia, taking me back to a time where I wasn’t even alive. 😂☔️
Takes me back to a time when there was no sorrows. Love this tune from the bottom of my heart . Thanks
Great job my friend one of my favorites from Zeppelin. Your lessons are excellent easy to understand especially for us bass players who moonlight as guitarist lol. Best to you & Gabby.
Haha, grazie Joe. Funny because I occasionally moonlight as a bass player too. 🌝
Gab says “ciaaaao.”
Tell Gab we said ciao🙂✌️
Much appreciated man you have a treasure trove of goodies to watch hope all is well man
Thank you! More coming later this week as well. 💪🏻
man... the outro is a whole another level of creativity
Amazing composition, very well explained. Love your tone.
This is one of the most important things I've ever seen, beautiful instruction.... Will be following you...
Thank you so much Frank! So kind, and I’m glad that my video brought you so much insight. Look forward to speaking more. ✨🙏🏻
Such a wonderfully written/composed song. My one and only tattoo is the "upon us all, a little rain must fall" line.
Great lesson too - bang on.
Ah that’s so cool. I don’t have any text tattoos. Gab does, I really like them. I have the sound wave from Ramble On chorus on my left arm though. 🙌🏻
One of my most emotional songs to listen to, thankyou
It stops you in your tracks doesn’t it? Rewinds time. ❤️
This video accompanied with Angela Pettreli’s tutorial make it seem too easy. Thank you for this, nice job!
My pleasure John! There's a cover of me playing this to go with the lesson too.
I racked my brain trying to figure this out in standard tuning when I was a kid. Finally, I met a guy that had played it at a music festival and he told me how its done.
I learned to play it in open G tuning. Never sounded right… so Gsus4 is it! Thank you!
This is the best tutorial on this song. Thank you.
Love! Respect bro, it's your version.... people need to chill with the critiques... it's free content that takes hours and hours to develop.
Totally with you on this. Baffles me when people watch, dislike and then complain about it. Do they just sit at home watching Channel 4 complaining for an hour how shit the program is? No you change the channel. 😂😂😂
Had most of it, was missing a few of the bass notes - great lesson. The writing Page did on this is just mind-blowing.
You're welcome, glad to fill in the missing sections! Yeah it's stunning isn't it. The man is a musical genius.
I really like your tutorial because it gets right to the point and moves through the song swiftly. It's great for players who are more advanced and don't need a ton of instruction to get it. I wish I found you when I was learning it! I will have to check out your other videos!
That’s great, thanks so much! Yeah there’s loads of full lessons with the same format as this. Have fun. 🙌🏻
Beautiful artistry in the guise of a lesson...you're getting the hang of this, mate.
Haha cheers Mica. 🎉
12:25 and 16:30 - Hybrid picking part, such a beautiful part that nobody plays. I've been looking for this, IDK why it took 2 years to pop up.
I thought I already knew the best channels in the universe….obviously I was wrong. Subbed!
This comment is huge, deserves a lot of love. Thank you! ❤️✨
You're the best out there with these lessons.
You legend, thank you!
What a fantastic job!!
Great teacher, fabulous skills,, thanks so much man!!
Sounds awesome!! Best version ever!
Best breakdown that I've seen. Well done!
Pleasure!

That thumbnail is so good hahaha. AND THAT COLOUR GRADE. Teach my your ways, slug.
Haha, thank you! I did wonder whether you'd seen it or not. Any excuse to use my lightsaber umbrella mate.
Thanks for this Sped! Really great how to lesson. Cheers from Oz mate
Incredible, Sped. Would never have been able to decipher this from playback. So appreciate your gifted instruction. Any chance we could get you to add you playing the entire 'shortened' version' so we can play along with you once we've come close to mastering all the parts?
Jimmy Page learned this the proper way from Sped. That's why he played it so damned well. Now the rest of us can learn properly. Thank you .. this is so awesome I didn't even skip the Ads.
Really appreciate that, although if it’s one of those 15 minute masterclass Amazon seller courses feel free to move things long. Sick of seeing that guy myself. 😂😂😂
Great , great lesson ... absolutely spot on .. best lesson ever done on this .. Jimmy would be proud of you ..
Thank you hometown! Loving the vibes. ✨
Hey Sped! It's really suitable this song for today, here it's raining all the time, I have perfected some parts , this is the best lesson of this song.
this song shows once again, the great compositional ability of Jimmy Page
Yeah he’s brilliant. I hate hearing people talk down about his speed or precision. It’s like, use your ears, he transports you somewhere new every time. ✨ Master.
