Google Pixel 9 Series - Major Overhaul, But There’s A Catch?

  • The Google Pixel 8 Series was barely released a few months ago, so I'm sure some of you will assume it's probably too early for rumors already, but that's not really the case this time. Trust me if this was some bogus source I wouldn't spend my time building a video, but since this is OnLeaks renders on MySmartPrice we're talking about, let's just say this could lead to something credible. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and let's dive in to what we just learned about the Google Pixel 9 series.

I have a pixel 7 and the modem is my major complain. 5G doesn't work even as good as other $300 phones. The 5G connection is poor and phone heats up while using 5G hotspot. I can live with the weak CPU because it still does all the daily tasks without breaking a sweat, but the modem is something they need to address ASAP

I have owned every XL and Pro model Pixel phone since the Original Pixel XL (and Nexus before that), but I'm honestly considering skipping the Pixel 9 Pro if it's going to contain the Samsung SOC again. It's not a bad processor, but I'm ready for an SOC that can compete with Apple and Qualcomm on benchmark scoring. I can't see putting out another $1000 for a phone that won't really be much better than the 8 Pro I have now. If the Pixel 10 XL will come with the TSMC SOC, then I'll DEFINITELY be buying that, especially if Google puts the same graphene tape over the SOC and battery like they did with the Pixel 8 Pro to better manage heat. Thankfully because Google did this with the Pixel 8 Pro, I have not heat issues whatsoever.

I'm curious if the base chipset for the Tensor G4 will be the new Exynos 2400 in the EU market Galaxy S24/S24+. That chip, while not as efficient in tests so far as the SD8 Gen 3, it is improved on performance over the Exynos 2200. I don't mind the new boxy iPhone-esque design or the Pixel Fold like camera island minus the wraparound sides. Once in a case, none of those elements will be noticeable anyway.

After owning Pixels for the last 8 years, I'll just say I still feel the same way I did back then. I really wish I could have a S24 Ultra with Pixel software. It's a little different this year as it looks like Samsung is introducing some of the features I really like about the Pixel, like the live translate. I've been very tempted to switch to the S24 since I skipped upgrading to the Pixel 8 (still using a P6P). But there's little things like the system ui, bixby, and the google assistant integration which make me question committing to the switch for 2 years.

6.1 size is already dead; you can't fill in with flagship features in that small, compact phone. Anything above 6.3 makes sense for flagship
Also, Google wastes time on changing designs every year.
Pixel 6 and 8 Pro have the best designs; they should probably have kept Pixel 6 designs for 3 or 4 years and then 8 Pro designs for another 4 years and probably research on the quality of materials, colours, and hardware.
this process would have kept the pixels much stronger in global market. competing with Samsung and the iPhone.

I like the flats sides of the render but I think they should keep the visor, it would blend into the flatter sides better. I'm not happy about the smaller screen size. I understand the bezels will be smaller, so sure keep the same size viewable screen and shrink the bezels then they can make the phone .1mm smaller all around, just don't shrink the viewable screen size, that's stupid. Either way they go it doesn't really matter to me because I'm switching from this P8P and going back to Samsung next year when they release the S25 series. This P8P was an experiment just to see how I liked a stock Android experience, and my conclusion after only having this phone since launch is that I prefer OneUI over stock Android. I'll miss the beta's and having the latest greatest android (although it seems Google is ACTUALLY giving that privilege to Samsung owners for some reason) updates and software.

either the next tensor chip can compete with QSD 8gen3(+)/4 or they just take the QSD, otherwise won't be interesting.

They should put the volume rockers on the left 🤌 and make them separate from one another. And just the power button on the right side 👌 I'm loving the new design language. And if they make an under display camera instead of that punch hole for the camera it would be awesome 👍 bloggers and Google take notes 🙏
P.S. I also like what they're doing with the camera bar. It will make the phone less top heavy in my opinion

Even though qualcomm can make AI optimised chips now, and samsung is offering AI on their phones, the fact that samsung being the largest android manufacturer could not bring their own AI features (bringing identical AI features to the pixel) and instead had to rely on google for those features shows us how much google is ahead of other manufacturers in terms of AI. On top of this, samsung is only offering those features for free till 2025, while supporting their phone upto 2031. If i want an AI focused phone, I'll still go for google

I just love the pixel line. It just works. I'm on the pixel 7 pro
I won't upgrade until the pixel 10 or 11 There is hardly any point of updating every year anymore. The developments are so minor that it's not worth the increasing cost.
I had my pixel one that I kept until the pixel 4
I will do the same now.

It's still early but it seems like a strange decision (if it ends up being true) that the 9 Pro will be slightly smaller than the 8 Pro. Plus, yeah, just to piggy-back off of what others are saying, the Tensor chip could use some love, too.

I'm on a day one-ish P8 (from the P6, from the P4, from the P2), and the supposed design of the P9 isn't tempting me at all. The P8 feels perfect in it's dimensions and shapeliness. I also like the camera bar way more.
The supposed P9 design seems way overinfluenced by Apple for superficial reasons, at the expense of practical ones.

My past three phones have been one Nexus phone and two Pixel phones. I'm probably going away from the crowd here but i have no intentions of getting a phone with a smaller screen size. I would honestly be happy if it was a little larger. I'll switch manufacturers if they shrink the screen and this 7pro dies during the smaller 9pro's time on the market.
