    Hi Alan, thank you for your posts. I came late to the Glenallechie party with batch 6 (which I liked). At that time the other batches were long gone from retail shelves (here in Australia) and batch 6 was up around the $250-300 mark (ridiculous I know but market forces) if you could get it. Since then, I have relied on the secondary market to source the 10 yo cask strength. Batch 7 was my last and that will probably stay that way, as I am aware that with each successive batch Walker/Glenallechie has been increasing the number of bottles produced exponentially. The earlier batches are revered by sherry bomb lovers and when I did finally track down a batch 4, (I have to be honest) sat back and wondered what all the fuss as about. Goodish whisky but I wouldn't fight a world war for it!

    I'm in Australia and the two cask strength whiskies I've owned are Abunadh and Glengoyne CS and loved them both but just pulled the trigger on my 1st Glenallachie CS and it's Batch 9. I'm pumped to try it. I've also got a Bordeaux finish Ledaig 9 CS on its way as well

    Thanks for reviewing Alan.
    Playing the GlenAllechie preacher as usual 😂
    Too much sherry for me, but I reckon there are many whisky lovers that will enjoy this whisky.

    Batch 5 remains the last unique batch, it had a real pop to it, almost effervescent, and complex. 6 onward have been a sherry overcoat and quite similar. Looking forward to a cask strength MT in the future.

    Tried batch 8 since it was in my whisky calender, it's my first taste of this expression, it's 88/100 for me and made me want to have more of sherried glenallachie in general and the 10 CS expression specifically. Very nice whisky.

    Always eagerly await the next batch for this expression. Nice, candid review of this new release from the lineup. Still haven't seen the Batch 9 on the west coast of the colonies yet. Can't speak to my personal tasting notes on either the 9 or 10...yet. But since I have the others, I will be adding at least one bottle of each. Thanks Alan. Cheers All!

    Picked up a bottle of this yesterday - my first experience of Glenallachie and honestly I was absolutely blown away. I can't comment on the differences or progression through the batches but this has easily become one of my favourites after only one or two tasting sessions. Beautiful whisky.

      @iancrombie8862 I just recently blinded Batches 6,7,8. I do enjoy drinking 7, however, it was last place in this short lineup. 6 was the clear winner for me, so you might want to pick one of those up if you haven't already. Cheers!

    My favorite batch for Glenallachie 10 CS is Batch 4 and Batch 5.

    I've had batch 4-7, still have on 5 left. These 4 batches have, to me, been quite different from eachother, in a good way. When 8 was released I thought it became a bit to expensive for what it is, and there's so many other options that I want to try instead, one can't buy all. But I try to always have a 12 at home, to me a really trustworthy one. Right now I'm waiting to get my Bunnahabhain 12 CS 2022 delivered. Cheers

    Haven't bought one since Batch 6. They started coming thick and fast, and as you say, you can still get the last few. The last batch I tried, I wasn't as blown away anymore... if I havea bottle it'll likely last me a year, so I just don't need to grab every batch. From reviews of latest batches, Rob & Jeremy rated Batch 8 as the best since Batch 5... creamier and easy to drink, while some can be a bit hot.

    Which was the dirty batch again? I missed that but I’m surprised they’ve not tried to go back there again given it was a favourite of many people I’ve spoken to.

  • @jackthepickledhound
    @jackthepickledhound 9 месяцев назад +2

    I thought I would be collecting all these, but you cant get every batch of everything and every special release and every integrity core release.......
    Plus there's seems to be just to much back stock at GlenAllachie. Theres a new single cask or a special cask finished every week hitting the shelves.
    I've got batch 2,3. & 6. Tempted by 8. Plus I've got a port and a rye. The rye finished and batch 2 are more my style.
    And now I'm really holding off on all this GA insanity waiting for some real Billy Walker distillate. I saw a 4 year peated release that's literally called future whisky.
    A ten year old cask strength at a great price is a no brainer but significant batch variation would pry open my wallet. What do i need a closet full of the same thing?
    Hahaha.... as I'm writing this im looking at my ECBP & Laph10 CS/Cairdeas collection.

    One big thing that impacts availability is that around batch 6 the flippers all got a good kicking at auction. There were so many bottles on the auction sites and most bottles sold for less than RRP. The result, it’s no longer a target for flippers and therefore much easier for us drinkers to get hold of.

    • @andykerr581
      @andykerr581 9 месяцев назад +3

      Long may it continue! Looks like the same thing is possibly happening to the 21 yr as I got a batch 3 under retail at auction. Taking money off a flipper improves a whisky's flavour by 20%

    I started with batch 6, as I only discovered a taste for scotch at that time.
    GlenAllachie is by a country mile my favourite distillery (an old sampler I managed to get if Glen Dronach maybe just topped it).
    My usual tipple is the 12yo.
    I’ve got 2/3 a bottle of the six, and one each if 7, 8, 9 and just ordered to 10 today.
    It’s taken me 2 years to get through 1/3 of the batch six, so each bottle looks set to last about 6 years. So it’ll be more than 20 years from now thatI open the batch 10!
    I do get a sampler of each, though. For me, though, these all vary enough. I want to know what I’m buying is going to be within that 10yo character. I don’t want something too different.
    If in 22 years I open the batch 10 and it reminds of this batch 6, for me that’ll be a good thing.

    Have Batches 4-9 with Batch 5 and 7 my favorites. 5 for it sweetness and 7 for its dirty/funky profile. Like you a big Glenallachie fan so will continue to buy new batches.

    7's better than 8. I seem to remember that being clear (though couldn't swear to it right now!)
    They have lost a bit of that special feel, though. Perhaps scaled up production has engendered a bit of homogeny.
