So for a Fakemon region I was creating, it had two interconnected gimmicks.
1. That gyms were based on Pokémon coloration as opposed to type (Gym Leaders were ALSO the rival 'evil teams' like Aqua and Magma)
2. The 'big bad' only used Black, White, or Gray Pokémon, and his plan was to remove the coloration from Pokémon, which had the side effect of making them typeless (and yes, he had a typeless Shedinja on his team).

Gen 9 design speaks to me as gen 1, some of them are boring, I could imagine if some pokemon in gen 9 is introduced on gen 8 they will be more unique. Like I could imagine if pawmott was introduced in gen 8 they will give it a literal Defibrillator hand, wich would be cool, I could Imagine brambleghast will look sick and has spirit-like effect around it if it was introduced in gen 8, I could imagine they would give veluza an evo if it was introduced in gen 8

Recently on Reddit I saw a concept for a fusion where Perrserker wields Dhelmise as.a weapon and gains an ability combining Steelworker and Steely Spirit and (as someone who loves Dhelmise and likes Perrserker) that was the coolest thing ever.

Before the video; I like the idea of fusion as a gimmick like ultra beast and paradoxes because it allows you to make a few chosen designs rather being able to merge anyone
After: I was almost right, haha
Idea: A stema creature that is like fossil pokemon, but instead of fossils, it's old stem topics that nowadays is obsolete and proven wrong. Like for example, a magician one that is based on the spontaneous apparition, that tries to make it's Fenomenon look real despite it clearly not being true.
This is a smart idea
The fact you chose leo for chimerism could funnily enough also reference lyonization, which is x-inactivation causing calico cats. I don't know whether this is coincidence but I thought I'd mention it.

More "Hybrid form" ideas:
Zonkey/Zorse: Zebstrika x Mudsdale
(Mudsbra, to fit the Mudsdale line naming convention)
Electric Ground type
Darkened Mudsdale base colors with stripes, a "mishmash" mane of the two, and a "muddy" version of Zeb's tail.
Grolar bear: Ursaluna x Bearctic
(Ursarctic, cuz that means bear bear and that's funny)
Ice Normal type
Pale brown (think Teddiursa) sleek Ursaluna with an elongated nose, with some of the accent features (mostly the collar) made of frozen ice.
Wolfdog: Lycanrock x itself
(Lycanruff)
Rock type
All the Lycanrock forms, made rounder and with pre-evo coloration, adapting a slightly bipedal forwards leaning (think Raccoons when they grab something and walk bipedally) gait, with a combination of their various ruffs.
Brontosaurus head incident: Tropius x Auroros
(Polorius; Polar + Auroros + Tropius)
Grass Ice type
Basically a teal and cyan colored Tropius with a swoopier neck and Auroros' frill and tail. Bananas are ice crystals now.
Wolphin: Wailord x Palafin
(Finwail, Wailmer x Finizen, also Finnwhale)
Water type
A bloated, elongated Finizen with a dopier face, less detailed colors, a reduced backfin and Wailords extra fin things. Colors taken from Palafin hero form.
This is just a few I thought of off the drop of the hat, there's dozens more possibilities lol, especially if you include mythology inspired hybrids (which, imo, should really be on the table lol)

ASTROLOGY VS ASTONOMY SOUNDS LIKE SUCH A COOL THEME
Pokémon could make fusions in one of two ways:
1. Limited number of fusions that can be made with specific Pokémon. Ex: Venustoise can only be made from Venusaur and Blastoise.| Base Stats are the average between the two, with small increases.
2. Whole new Pokémon that can only exist temporarily by fusing compatible Pokémon. Ex: Fusion "Granblaze" made by fusing any Fire-type with any Fighting-type of the same stage.| Base Stats are lowered if the Pokémon were not final stage.
For an idea for a fusion-inspired mechanic, I thought it would be interesting (and more reasonable) to translate the pair-up mechanic from Fire Emblem into Pokémon. Essentially, you'd pair-up a lead Pokémon with a support Pokémon and the support Pokémon could boost the stats, change the type advantage or even change the ability of the lead Pokémon. The caveat being that you can't used the support Pokémon until after the lead Pokémon is deafeated.
As for actual fusion, you could probably have something like parasitic Pokémon that could actually change the lead Pokémon physically in some way. There could be one parasitic Pokémon for each type. Granted, 12*1045+ is still an insanely large number, but they could probably simplify it by just adding an aura or armor to the lead Pokémon with the exception of certain legendaries that would have unique forms (plus maybe Pikachu and Charizard because it's GameFreak).
I want to do fusions without feeling like I'm just following a trend. The rules I gave myself were that the mon had to be monotyped, and that they had to "fit" in some way. But I stopped after a Bonsly/Chansey fusion based off of gardeners
I like to call these new sets of pokemon “anomaly pokemon” as they tend to break conventions and are considered out of place in the story.
N0rtist and Madoka Magica are now within concerningly few degrees of separation (this video alludes to the Archangels in Cassette Beasts -> The devs have stated their artstyle differences were inspired by Madoka's Witches -> Madoka)

I’m think maybe the next gimmick will be like you get 6 of the same Pokemon and they create a Susanoo like being that can only be taken down by taking out each Pokemon individually

Funny thing is with thw Box Legendaries, so far if there's a set of new species they are somewhat involved, but if there are gimmick forms, they are not.
Now that you mentioned cryptid inspired Pokémon, I have to start cooking up designs
I've always liked this genre of mons that are very much not legendary, but all collectively share some kind of theme and have high stats.

I think that the two 590 BST Paradoxes being Roaring Moon, a paradox of Mega Salamence which is a Pokemon introduced in a PAST generation while Iron Valiant is also based on Mega Gardevoir and Galade from the FUTURE while being a fusion of the two designs is definitely an implication for what the next generation or even Legends Z-A will include as the new set of oddballs
This is so well-crafted.
My fakemon region idea was themed around magic vs technology and it was a region split into two different alternate timelines/universes, one where people discovered and used magic in place of modern tech, and one where high tech advanced extremely rapidly.
The Special Set would be Magically-enchanted/transformed and Technologically-enhanced/modified Pokemon in a sort-of similar vein to Paradox Pokemon, except that they have their own abilities instead of Protosynthesis and Quark Drive. These were both artificially created by certain less scrupulous people to fight against the other side.
(And before anyone asks, only _one_ of the tech forms is a "pokemon but robot", I'm not making the same mistake as future Paradox forms. The others are either genetically modified, cybernetically enhanced, mutant horrors, or digitally created)

I think that the paradox pokemon (at least inside the pokemon world) are already meant to be cryptids of the pokemon world. Basically like the "big foot" or "UFOs" of our world. Which is further proven by the existence of the occulture magazine. Which is essentially a tabloid.
So the weird names and the primitive and robotic designs make sense since they're supposed to be like their versions of cryptids (that are creatures from cryptozoology and ufology mainly known from anecdotal stories and other claims rejected by the scientific community). Even in the game is stated that the guy that wrote the book about the paradox pokemon got ridiculed and lost his reputation after publishing the book about what he experienced and saw during the excursion to area zero. So this is very likely how they're perceived.
Basically someone sees an Iron hands, doesn't know what it is but notices that it kinda looks like a robotic version of Hariyama, nobody believes it and then tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist in Paldea start saying that it must have been some kind of cyborg. And that tinfoil hat conspiracy theory ends up being part of an article from the occulture magazine and the pokedex (since it doesn't have any actual info about what they actually are has to resort to reference the description of that shady tabloid or the discredited scarlet/violet book out of pure lack of real info).
Of course despite this perception as cryptids inside the pokemon world, in reality, they're convergent evolutions taken from their respective timelines that just happen to look similar to pokemon from current times but that aren't related at all and that are present due to a time loop caused by a time machine. But they don't know that.

In the case of gen 4, I think all the new evolutions added serve as a sort of set in the same way as paradoxes and ubs.
Hey! I’m designing my own Pokémon fan game, and I’ve been thinking of this same thing!
A lot of your ideas I’ve already thought of, but you presented a lot of points that I hadn’t thought of!
My “special set” is based on types, and there would be a “representative” of each type. It would take past Pokémon and redesign them as legendary Pokémon.

For Chimeleo's ability, why not give it one that boosts a stat. But, it is chosen by the opposing Mon.
Chimeleo defeats a Mon and gains a boost in its highest Stat. Example, Chimeleo defeats alakazam, it sould get a one stage boost of special attack, while beating magikarp, gives it a stage in speed.

Organ transplant isn’t just technically a chimera, they are genetic chimeras. It’s called artificial chimerism since it didn’t accrue naturally. Even after a blood transfusion you are a chimera, just for a short time tho.
Was actually the theme of my final project and my thesis (bachelor in fashion) and it’s so cool to see it in a different artistic way, it’s so cool 😍😍😍
Im going to go with a "Support Pokémon" that is attached to one or more of yours can assist you up to X times per battle with certain moves or actions. Basically, in battle, while choosing your Pokémon's move, you can press a special button to trigger the assist and show their possible actions/moves. This support Pokémon could be the "gift box legendary" like Koraidon, before full power/becoming a catchable species, and each species could also become a support, maybe theur Egg Groups defining the actions or moves they can take.

Ultra Necrozma, Marshadow and the Tapus all technically changed their look when using their Z Moves signature

I was actually just thinking earlier about a new take on designing fusions. A lot of current fusion designs by fans are really clean, seamlessly combining designs. But I personally think fusions should look more unnatural, more jank, less fitting eachother. Really sell their chimeric weirdness. Like someone combined them in a lab, rather than being natural creatures.
something that could be cool would be to add "Core pokemons" this pokemons would be the ones that started it all besides legendaries, this pokemons are already extinct, however, you could find a way to bring them back, all of them would look as the embodyment of their typing as their types would be duplicated (having a fire/fire pokemon that's literally a beast made of magma and flames could be an example) this wouldn't only play with the stab mechanic letting their stats focus on less offensive aspects in exchange of this double stab, but also could show people the sheer idea of how a type is supposed to work (fire could be specially offensive and defensive having the other stats lower, water could be specially defensive and fast, and so on) I personally just love the idea of a pokemon with doble stab (even before tera), but that it has some sort of drawback... is like saying "he is the best on what he does"

Trade evolutions are fursions, Accelgor and Escavalier take traits from the other, same with golem and Machamp.
we also kinda have a small pool of pokemon that fuse together that being the fossils from galar
What I came up with while watching this was a game where the box legendaries were based on sickness and health, respectively, and a good idea for “forms” for this region could be pokemon infected with some magical, virulent disease that caused mutations. It could even have a custom new type for the infected Pokémon, like how terapagos gets the stellar type.
Kyurem is already using the fusion gimmick and it's important to the plot as well...
So I'm not so sure it will be the next gimmick

What if gen 10 is all of them? Ultra beasts vs paradoxes vs megas vs gigantimaxes. We already saw Guzzlord in another alola and in that timeline could be where future paradoxes are from.

I feel like we'll get fusion in a legends game about the orginal Unova dragon and likely at no other point. Putting it in a legends game is an easy way to excuse keeping the mechanic locked to a single player focused sub series.
I think the only thing bad about these special categories is that it is likely it will take a long time for us to get any new paradoxes or ultra beasts

An idea I have for a new Pokémon group, called Daemons, is where old pokemon get a new form where they’re more feral than before.
I believe if they make another set it will be in gen 11. Gen 7, ultra beasts with connection to space, theming connecting to space, legendaries connecting to space. Gen 9 does those same things but with time. So it might be the next odd numbered gen. But it’s just a pattern and my brain loves looking for patterns so it may just be me overthinking it
I'm not sure fusions would be given a distinct group because they already have some fusions via Kyurem, Calirex, and to some capacity, the Gen 8 Fossils. Im not sure they could stand out as their own mon.

I feel that out of all the battle gimmicks forms Z-Moves only effect Necrozma from having dusk/dawn forms to become Ultra Necrozma.
I think fusions are unlikely bc of legal stuff where there is so much fan art of fusions out there and there would be so much pressure for pristine designs which Gamefreak just can't match rn

im making my own fakemon region, and i also was thinking about this. and had a (in my opinion) GREAT idea: MUTATED POKEMON.
basically: in my region, there exists mutated pokemon, and are basically endangered species, and my evil team wants to sell them for riches (so really just team rocket but they wanna sell special pokemon instead of just nornal pokemon). example of one i made: Water/Dark mutated Wailord which is mutated into looking like a orca (dark type cuz orcas are extremely dangerous and aggressive)

I don't play pokémon anymore because I got bored of it and don't find it interesting anymore, but I still really like your videos and watch them for some reason
it's just infuriating seeing paradox past Gauging Fire and Raging Bolt not having yellow sclera on their eyes despite all paradox past has it even Walking Wake has one.
Paradox Future all of them has LED eyes and Miraidon is the unique one to glow red on its attack animation

Instead of beast boost why not give it ability that if someone is using a fire type it will using it will change into a pure ghost type and if someone is using a dark type Pokémon it will turn into a grass type but only at half health
The next set should be Pokémon from different planets like mars or Uranus
