This drill only works if you get your speed spot on every time which Andy showed to be the main problem. Line is one thing, ball speed is on a whole other level. Given such a high variation in ball speed (temp, humidity, grain, stroke speed etc), getting a consistent speed and reading those variables will result in your ball getting closer to the target. Once you can do that, then reading the exact line and learning your patterns becomes more valuable. Love the vids guys. Cheers from Bunbury West Aus.
Great Video clip! Sorry for chiming in, I would love your opinion. Have you researched - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a smashing exclusive guide for revealing an effortless golf swing technique minus the normal expense. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my friend Sam after many years got amazing results with it.
This was great, I have been researching "proper way to putt" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Graysonyon Putter Prolific - (just google it ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my mate got amazing results with it.
Putting include grip , stroke, speed, line reading knowledge.Square face putting is just one of them which Tiger warm up the two tees between all the time.😊
I've been using the Dave Pelz Putting Tutor. My feedback is the same as Andy's first attempt. You see the visible break and then you make compensations to roll the ball over your visible apex. Actually you need to start the ball (Aim point) much higher than the visible apex. What I find that on most normal breaking putts, the actual aim line is almost twice as high as the visible apex. The way I've been setting up the line on my ball is to extend the visible break apex to the hole. (let's say it's 6" left of the hole.) I then pick a spot 12" left of the hole ( twice the visible break) That's where I put the line on my golf ball lined up at. When I get over the ball, I then just have to commit to starting the ball on that line. It never get's there as gravity pulls my ball over the visible apex. I've been making more putts and the ones I miss are usually on the high side now with an easy tap in. Usually, on fast greens, if you miss low the ball tends to really drop off a considerable distance from the hole. The ones missed on the high side are usually tap ins. Summary, look at visible break, double the distance at the hole and use that as your aim point....
I usually just draw a line on the ball. Use it to aim, and then just focus to start it on that line. You can see if the line wobbles, then you didnt hit it good. One way of doing it
Many thanks, been searching for "golf swing for dummies" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Graysonyon Putter Prolific - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my neighbour got excellent success with it.
Hey Andy, do you prefer the draw shot when you play? I'm right handed, shoot left, and I love playing the cut shot. I also prefer the cut putt, which to me is a right to left putt. I would love to see if people out there prefer to play a putt which lines up with the way they hit an iron or driver....
I love video like this to break it down to why do this or do that one my favorite channels i really enjoy watching.i got check an go i use the balance ball line to line up my putt at a spot right in front of the ball.i customized my 2 ball fang to use a line...if i got right speed in it goes
almost made a believer out of me, it was that randomness comment and 4 misses that brought me back to line is luck. grass isn't flat. distance control is the name of the game. always pick a line and work on putting straight though
dave pelz has a great tool called putting tutor that uses marbles. way more green friendly. next time i'm out on an empty course i'm going to try this on every putt.
i think this would help people realize that just because you hit the same pace and same line it does not always go the same place. some of the guys i play with think they should make every 10 to 15 footer and get so upset during a round when they miss one. then its like they cant make a putt and they talk all day about how bad they are putting
I'm single digit player and for decades I've been looking for some way to better understand reading greens. I've spent countless hours on the putting green only gaining a better sense of my stroke alignment and the speed of that particular practice green (which may change the next day I play). But after watching this video, I wish I could have used this "back in the day"; the feedback from your initial reading is an eye opener. Definitely considering this product. \m/, Michael
Get rid of that damned line. Add up what an extra 30 (at least, depending on number of putts) seconds per green per golfer that it costs. Right...that's 36 minutes of unneeded slow play. Meanwhile I'm STILL waiting for you to putt out for an extra 2 minutes...Every. Frigging. Hole.
NO JOKE! Is this guy high? I'm not paying $90 for a triangle mirror with holes and a line. You can buy the Dave Pelz version for $30 and it has different width holes at front to use as you improve.
This is just superb, been searching for "golf tips videos" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Graysonyon Putter Prolific - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my co-worker got great results with it.
@@FrankRoosevelt32 i just bought the dave pelz on amazon returned it same day it came in its complete ass, the line on it isnt a line at all its a groove. The ball rides the groove and the only way to hit a marble is to severely miss hit the ball so you actually dont get any of the valuable feedback this guy was talking about. Im sorry for commenting but i just bought that garbage and am clearly still heated about it 😂
Dave Pelz GATE is INCORRECT. On this right breaking putt, the entrance to the cup is larger than 4 1/4 inches straight putt. For example, @ the 2005 Masters 70th hole (16th @ Augusta) Tiger Woods chips left on the 2nd shot 10 feet PAST the hole. Then, the ball reverses direction and comes DOWNHILL back into the cup on the OPPOSITE side from Tiger Woods. Therefore, the entrance to the hole is LARGER than a straight putt when it breaks. 2nd example, this years final round @ the 2019 PGA championship the TV showed the drives and iron shots with a blue line. Also, the putts were shown with the "FIRM strike & SOFT strike as large as 12 inches. Therefore, on this you tube putt, one could hit it FIRM LOWER than shown, OR SOFT line 2 to 3 inches HIGHER and the ball will still GO into the hole. ALLEN E. JANSSON (58 YRS PUTTING) "HOW TO MASTER THE ART OF ONE-PUTTING."
I need an important element to this, Ball speed. Om the Tour ull see the direct Line and the lag Line, so therefor this question. Even tho you missed every putt, who/what determines if you under read the put or just didnt hit it hard enough?? The very first putt, id say, just hit it a bit harder. Is it the Factor that you wont Roll more than those 14 inches past the whole, Or your regular speed?? I heard somewhere, never go low off the hole, then it didnt have the chance to go in, but again, is it under read or going too slow? Depending of the distance of the putt ull have to hit it harder too.
To me, dead aim at the target is the biggest key. People don't aim correctly but few realize it. If the putter isn't aimed correctly, the mind steps in and compensates the stroke. If the putter is aimed spot-on to your target, the stroke is far better and far more putts are made. .
I think the comment was 'just enough for the ball to pass through'. That way you're getting exact feedback on putts that start left or right coming off the putter.
The Dave Pelz Putting Tutor has three (3) settings. The expert has 1/8th " clearance. Lets say that you need to putt perfectly to get through. If you google the DIY on how to make a Dave Pelz Putting tutor, it gives the clearance dimensions...
Interesting to me that Andy misread right, and then mishit left. Makes me wonder if his hands have trained his eye to adjust. Makes me think his first putt that bounced off the tee might have gone in.
I much prefer a right to left Ollie. I Ould definitely work on the left to right more. It certainly shows up your tendencies and gives you great feedback doing this.
Also, Piers asking you "where are you looking?" was in the back of my head this morning every time I putted. Don't look at the hole, look where I'm aiming. It helped a lot.
Natural speed control dictates break line. O i dont get this drill. Everyone knows speed dictates break. Gotta get 10 foot putt speed vs 10 ft putt speed then base breakn points off the speed
Good thinking, but Brad Faxson (an all-time record in putting) demonstrates in a video where the putt will go into the hole whether it is mis-read left or right of the target line, because of pace. Either a faster or slower pace will sink the putt regardless of whether the mis-read is outside or inside the line. The putting aid in this video only addresses one facet of putting: straight putting. The other two necessary skills are missing: reading the amount of break from an actual or 'seen' fall-line, and HOW to get the correct pace. All three are important, but from Faxson's teaching, there's a difference in their importance. 'Distance' (pace) is more important at longer putts, and ''direction' (straight) is more important at short putts. Correct reading of the actual or imagined fall-line is the unchangeable, all-important factor, as Andy proves in this short-putt video.
Putting is probably the only area where an ordinary golfer can play on level terms with the pros. We are never going to drive as far as them, never going to hit our irons as long and straight, never going to go 140 with a wedge and have the ball on a string like the pros do. But we CAN putt like them. This is the one area where a pro has no innate advantage over an ordinary golfer. Over say ten balls, you'll never outdrive Tiger, DJ, Rory, Henrik, Rosey, Tommy or any one of these guys. Never. But, on a given day, you can outputt them.
Sounds like overthinking. Would rather make it wrong than miss it right. You want to put well, then practice. Good = 100 puts a day. Better = 200 puts a day. Best = 300+....No slacking until you make 80-90%.
This is just superb, been searching for "golf putting tips for beginners" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Graysonyon Putter Prolific - (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my colleague got great results with it.
OK I've watched 15 minutes but long before that I thought....PACE, no matter what line you start it on if the pace is wrong it doesn't go in, guess what !!!!
Hi Stuart. yes of course pace is key. They key thing is finding the break based on the speed you like to hit the ball in the hole. All part of the reading process.
This drill only works if you get your speed spot on every time which Andy showed to be the main problem. Line is one thing, ball speed is on a whole other level. Most useful putting video I've seen... You've got to practice with feedback... Nice 👌

Love to see great teachers still being great students too

Very insightful video. Line and distance control are keys to putting. Read comes with experience I guess (for amateurs).
Excellent idea's for feedback on putting drills.
As they say, drive for show, putt for dough. I will definitely be giving this helpful practice routine a try! Cheers!

john yi sounds logical and has a ring but in reality the best drivers of the ball and strikers usually end up winning. Just look at the pga stats.
Tae Lim yeah but for most amateurs he’s right hahah
Great one guys! I'm getting my plates today.
Great. Let us know how you get on.
That's a great drill with three tees that I will do on every putting green now.
Great video and really useful yet so simple, good stuff guys - thank you 😊
i believe the focus changes from the line/aim point to get the ball through the tee gate which invariably affects the correct speed to hole the putt.
Great watch, didnt want it to finish could listen to him talking about puttin all day
Glad you enjoyed it.
I love these guys, when I'm regularly watching I play much better.
thanks for sharing these tips! Its always great to have putting help!
You're welcome. Glad this was useful

Putting is definitely my achilles heel, in golf.
Good video 👍🏼. I'm getting a plate!
Nice video.. testing at lunch today
Hope it helps John. Let us know.
Fantastic video. Felt a light bulb go off watching this
Great David! Glad you enjoyed it.
I'm RH but I prefer left right, I also ride a skateboard goofy...I wonder if they are related?
great tips this still work great even though this is years old
What is the tool with the string he's using for the line?
3:15 I thought that was a golf ball in the background
Didn't really talk about putting with a line on the ball. I have done this with any length putt. What is you suggtions as it relates to line on ball?

Poor Andy. Missed every putt. I think he would have made most of them without all that drill stuff.
I know ken! Great feedback for me though. I think I need some time on the putting green working on my left to rights!
Back in SoCal again eh? I think TM should just move you two out here at least during the UK winter. 😜
Tell us about it Jay!
Gotta love Piers doing the Michael Jackson lean all the time... e.g. 15:05
Does anybody what the red thing is called that he is using to align the plate to the tee? Thanks.

Guys...where can I find those belts?
what is the distance between the two front tees?
Timothy Crisp yah i also want to know
They didn't give an exact distance, but most would use a ball and a half between the front tees, or even smaller.

He didn't say anything about speed. Won't that also affect the path of the putt?
Where do you get the putting plate he is using?
The link is in our description underneath the video.
The putting mirror is placed backwards. The mirror is there to see your back swing and impact.
sometimes to hit on wrong line the putt goes in i seen Tiger said he won cause the ball hit something an kicked it on the right line
When the ball roll from the plate to the green, i guess there should be some deviation, isn't it?
Good putting practice tips, and I will add, very consistent with what Dave Pelz teaches. Good job, guys.
Thanks Randy.
