As an American born fan of Cliff Richard I will agree that he is not well known here in the USA. However he has received some recognition and promotion from an unlikely source. I am also a fan of Archie Andrews comic books. I remember in one story of a comic book Archie and his friends are in a record store. (I think it was the late 1980s or early 1990s when I read this story.) Some unknown person is holding a copy of a record. The name of the artist on this record is CLIFF RICHA with their hand covering up the rest of the name. From the picture drawn in the comic book it was clearly a copy of this record album’s cover. Now I do not know how many fans of Archie comics have seen that particular story and learned Cliff Richard is an actual singer or not but it would be interesting.
This was hot on the heels of We don't talk any More and was a early 80s top 10 hit for Cliff. I think there are a few album tracks where he gets heavier around this time. My kid sister was surprised it was Cliff at the timewhen she heard me play a track or two
Living in the States, I was blown away when I looked up Cliff Richard's wiki page one day. You have to scroll a country mile to get a handle on his entire body of work. What amazing longevity! I think his chart success on this side of the pond was largely limited to around '76 to '82, maybe '83. This song is the last of his I remember hearing on the radio, but others I remember getting airplay included Devil Woman (HUGE hit in 1976), We Don't Talk Anymore (almost as big in '79), Suddenly with ONJ, Carrie, and Dreamin'.
@@alyarout Great songs, all! Thanks for recommending. Can't believe I forgot about A Little In Love. I recognized that one about two seconds in. I also think Ocean Deep sounded a little familiar, and am wondering if I might have seen a video or maybe caught a live performance on a television program at some point. I feel like My Pretty One SHOULD have been a hit over here, but doesn't appear that one charted. The big surprise for me was the oldie, which was fantastic. Thanks again!
@@robtaylor5550 you are so so welcome my friend. sir cliff had a number one song with living doll back in 1958 before the beatles and he had so many albums and songs and a very beautiful voice. i first recognized him in 1986 and i just fell in love with his music. here are few more songs for you if you like to listen to them and i wish you a pleasant time: some people. peace in our time. congratulations. lean on you. the best of me. the young ones. when the girl in your arms is the girl in your heart. all i ask of you (with sarah brightman from the phantom of the opera). suddenly (with olivia newton john). mistletoe and wine
I actually didn’t know who Cliff Richard was until my husband introduced his music to me. This was in the early 80’s and Mr. Chang had recently come to the states from South Korea, where Cliff Richard was immensely popular! So, you are absolutely correct Harri. He was much more popular elsewhere in the world than here in the U.S. 🌺😢

I was a little familiar with Cliff's work in the 70s when a few of his songs made the charts in the US (We Don't Talk Anymore, A Little in Love, and Devil Woman). It wasn't until I stumbled across a video of The Shadows Final Tour from '04 that I dug deeper and became aware of how HUGE both he and The Shadows were everywhere BUT the US. Our loss.
Yeah mr HarriBest Thief in the night is a Great Rock number and like Love Stealer from 1983 and the Extended version of Born to rock n roll from 1986, Thief in the night was played on a Heavy Rock radio station Sir Cliff told us on Pebble Mill in December 1983!😀♥
Love Cliff Richard's music on his own & with his backing group The Shadows. His music has spanned about 6 decades. He has had so many hits including "Living Doll", "Travellin' Light", "I Love You", "A Voice in the Wilderness", "Theme for a Dream", "When the Girl in Your Arms Is the Girl in Your Heart", "The Minute You're Gone", "Congratulations", "Devil Woman", "Miss You Nights" "We Don't Talk Anymore" etc.
can't go wrong wtih Sir Cliff. I saw him a few times in the 80's. I would check all the record stores for his albums because the older albums were hard to get and were considered imports here (Canada).
Great stuff ! .. I love so many of Cliff's songs from the 50s through to the 80s .. This one is very catchy indeed .. And Harri, if you like top class duets, please check out Cliff's big hit with the late, great Phil Everly, called "She Means Nothing To Me" .. It's melodically and harmonically immaculate ! .. Wayne
This song was meant to have a subtle gospel message. Cliff had put out a few gospelly type sings such as Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music ? But EMI never promoted them. So he slipped this one out as a single and no one even realised what it was really all about. A great song, though, whatever The only way Out of the mess . Listen up.
The Elvis of the UK. I don't know why he wasn't more popular in the US. First time hearing this song , love it !
Cliff can rock with the best of them

I like his song we don't talk anymore. And Devil woman
Haven't heard either of those songs in years. Devil Woman was a favorite of mine.
I love Cliff Richard and I think Summer Holiday is my favourite. This is a good song also.
Such a pure voice

You need to listen to ‘it has to be you, it has to be me’ from the same album. That has the best guitar solo
Good point HarriBest Please take note. The guitarist on this is AMAZING!😀

In the States this album was released as a secular album, which it wasn’t.

I don’t understand why he was more popular elsewhere. I’ve always LLLOOOVED Cliff’s voice.
This was a very catchy song. Great reaction Harri.

It's a great Christian video and song

I saw video of Cliff at Wimbledon years ago … it was raining and he decided to entertain the waiting spectators. I thought that was lovely.
I loved when he covered Larry Norman songs and then did Rock that Doesn't Roll live with Larry
Please one day listen to thief in the night from the same album! Really rocks!

Nice one Harri
You should check out 'She means nothing to me'

Late to the party here……but completely agree with your view re guitar solo. Great tune nonetheless. Good stuff 👍
This was the 1st album I heard him on, I love it. Been a fan ever since. USA/Ohio. His old stuff is rock and roll…check out Move it with the Shadows!
