- "Crying, Waiting, Hoping" is a song written by Buddy Holly. It was released in 1959 as the B-side to "Peggy Sue Got Married".
"Crying, Waiting, Hoping" was part of the Beatles' nightclub act during their formative years. It was a direct transcription of the 1959 Buddy Holly record. George Harrison sang the lead vocal and replicated studio guitarist Donald Arnone's instrumental bridge, note for note. The group performed the song during their failed Decca audition on January 1, 1962, with George Harrison on the lead vocal and Pete Best on drums.
A slower version was recorded on August 6, 1963, for the Pop Go The Beatles radio show. The BBC recording, which has been released commercially, features Ringo Starr on drums.
Here I´ve intended to show a possible rendition with the same gear they used to play in 1961-62.
- Rickenbacker 325 Capri (John)
- Hofner 500/1 61 bass (Paul)
- Gretsch 6128 Duojet (George)

Such a cool solo from George.

Amazing cover, I love this song.
Awesome - you nailed George's solo; one of his best from the early days.
Listening to this I wouldn't know what they were capable of in this future.

Maybe the best music the beatles produced was never recorded. Their early music
Beat iful.
Hey Stu what are the amp settings for this song??
Ric: B-2/M-4/T-9.....Gretsch: B-4/M-8/T-6
@@StuSutcliffe60 thank you!!
The drumming is better than Pete Best
This is a remake
😅
Why did Pete Best only know one single drum fill?
It may sound limited, but it's not bad on this song -for an amateur. He just got his drum kit in spring of 1960, then joined the band a couple days before departing to Hamburg in Aug.
John Lennon played lead guitar on this !
No chance
@@Zemlya99 , Lennon played lead guitar on a lot more songs than people realize. As he himself said at some point: "George was the singer in the shadows and I was the guitarist in the shadows." Many of the guitar solos performed on the Hamburg stage were done by Lennon, such as the one on the song "Matchbox", the first solo on "Long Tall Sally" and this one on "Crying Waiting Hoping". Proof of them is that in the 1980 demos for "Double Fantasy", Lennon completely performs this solo, note for note, in the best Buddy Holly style.
@@stellapolanco6860 my apologises i was aware that john played alot of lead in the early days like sweet little 16 and memphis but this one really struck me as been harrison i will have to listen to the 1980s clip !
@@stellapolanco6860 i cant find the clip of john playing this anywhere please provide
@@Zemlya99 , Hello, I don't remember which demo or bootleg recording it's on, but it's on one of the songs or take of one of the songs from "Double Fantasy", I've listened to it several times, maybe someone can tell you exactly which one it belongs to. In this recording John wanders between various styles or rhythms on the acoustic guitar and suddenly begins to interpret the solo of "Crying Waiting Hoping ", which he plays almost in its entirety.
