I do not agree with all Senator Hansen's views, however I strongly support her stand on treating ALL Australians equally and not creating an Apartheid System or race separatism. As an educator in a high school, our education is to help students learn how to think instead of giving them a set of moral rules. Whether or to what extent we should acknowledge our indigenous people is a matter that can be discussed openly rather than an ethical standard to judge people's education.
Unfortunately, political correctness has closed doors for the healthy debate on this issue in our school system.

Because a long time ago, europeans landed on these shores and slaughtered the aboriginal people. Australia has existed for 10 to 50 million years. Aboriginals have been here, or so they claim, for 60 000 years. That means that Aboriginals have only been here for 1/500th of the time that Australia has been here (if you use the midpoint of 30 million years). Aboriginals were only immigrants like Europeans. There is no coherent argument supporting the claim that Aboriginals own Australia. Property started with crops and domestic livestock. Aboriginals never had either - Thus, they had a concept of territory but not of property. Had the Europeans never come to Australia many of the tribes who now claim ownership of different areas, may have been driven out by other warring tribes long ago. Saying that Australia is owned by Aboriginals is like saying that Australia is a "democracy" - when nobody voted to allow mass immigration into Australia...
I would add that the peoples (aborigines) here when the Europeans arrived were NOT the original inhabitants of this island.
I agree with everything you spoke about, and I was informed by a friends Aboriginal mother and white Australian father that her peoples and tribes were originally from Indonesia and when Australia broke away from Asia/Europe thousands of years ago when all the different land masses were breaking away and forming.
