  • One thing you will eventually learn is you cannot manage tasks. You have no idea when or where they will come from. What you can manage, though, is how you use your time.

    Great presentation of time constraints. Thank you Carl for reminding us to prioritize our important needle moving goals before replying to everyone’s demands

    Hi. Just found your channel. Are you using something like GTD methods to gather your tasks into the different categories? I can see how time blocks could be well used for structuring time for the self-employed (myself)-- my days are often too flexible, and it needs structure.

      I use a system called "The Time Sector System". You can learn more about it here:

    Thanks Carl. So what brand of tee shirt do you prefer. Also, I noticed that you were using Google Calendar. Have you switched from Apple, or did you use it for variety? Again, good video ... always love to hear from you. Roger

      Mt preferred T-shirts are from Sunspel. But most are from Uniqlo - their Supima cotton ones.

    Carl, your videos are great, I wish some day you would mention how health care professionals can use your system throughout the day. As a dentist, and I always struggle with tasks and time management because, my entire day is filled with appointments. But I have so many secondary things to do to keep the practice running that I always have more tasks than hours in a day.

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  4 месяца назад +1

      In a way, you are quite lucky. Because you have appointments throughout the day, that's where your focus needs to be. Admin and communications can not be done while you are with a patient, so there's no point in fighting that. This means if you want time for admin and communication and other work, you will need to schedule that time and treat the time as if you were with a patient.

      @@Carl_Pullein Excellent suggestion Carl, Thank you. But like you said in your video "I need to learn to say NO". I used create block to do my admin and phone calls, but some how patient emergencies always seem to take up those blocks 🙂 I really do appreciate all of your videos, and tips. Thank you.

    Carl, when it comes to time management... what is your recommendation on reminders (calendar, task manager etc). Deactivate them in general or only on the iPhone?

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  4 месяца назад +2

      The only notifications I have switched on are those from my calendar. They are set to remind 15 minutes before an appointment. Email and Todoist/Reminders are switched off. I don't need them. I review Todoist every evening and first thing in the morning..

    • @devarni
      @devarni 4 месяца назад

      Yes, that makes sense. I get too many notifications on both the iPhone and the Mac. I need to change that!
      Btw, have you made a video on how to optimise the Mac for more productivity?

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  4 месяца назад

      @@devarni Ooh, that would be difficult. How you optimise your Mac would depend on the kind of work you do.

    Great video Carl, I'm quite partial to a navy blue t-shirt myself! Best thing I did was segment when I check and respond to emails. Makes such a difference, and people quickly get used to it.
