Your video showing how to take it slow really helped, and I think it could help me learn how to fly towards me which would be exciting because my orientation just won't allow me to do that. Glad I watched this good video. I recently build a quadcopter, and took it for a fly yesterday and crashed it about four times, only from a low height no more than 10ft. It is so different flying acro compared with a DJI with full stability. I was thinking it was my quad, but this vid has shown me its not, its me, I need to learn to fly this beast!!! The part about disarming the quad in flight I think is the most important point in the video.

There's a group of guys that go to Dorothea Dix almost every weekend. Unfortunately the big field is very busy these days. We used to have the place to ourselves for the most part, but since COVID the park has gotten a lot more popular with picnicers/dog walkers. There are a few side areas where we're less likely to run into people. One of the places is behind the fenced in dog park where they dump a bunch of trash/storm debris. If I know of anyone heading out there, I'll try to comment here and let you know.

That is a good help. Thanks. But one question… what is the best way to hold the sticks to get a better control? Sound like one of you holds them with the thumbs on top, and the other holds every stick between the index and the thumb.

When you point the right stick up, does the drone start moving up? I'm struggling to understand, I used a simulator where the control is such that if I point the right stick up, the drone goes up .... but when I started using the DJI FPV simulator, the controls are inverted ...
Sounds like you're bouncing back and forth between Mode 1 and Mode 2. Mode 2 is the standard in the USA with throttle (move up) on the left stick, not the right. At this point you need to decide which one you like better, and start getting consistent. I will say, in terms of buying and setting up most drones, getting accustomed to Mode 2 will make things a lot easier for you in the long run. Most drones/controllers you come across will be in Mode 2 already.
@@EdRickerVlogs I'm using Mode2, but I probably didn't express myself well ... My mistake is that I studied for days in a simulator where the controls are different than on DJI FPV. Now that I'm flying in the Liftoff simulator, I can't make any progress (using controls like the ones on DJI FPV) ... never mind, I won't bother you anymore ... while I used different controls, I flew like a bird, and now I feel like an idiot :(
Years ago I flew RC airplanes. It looks like the FPV controls & flight is similar to that, opposed to my DJI P4P controls & flight. Does the flight orientation get confusing for FPV vs your photographic drones?
Hi Chris, The flight styles are so different that the controls don't really get confused from FPV to DJI. Occasionally it'll feel a little odd if I haven't flown DJI in a while, but generally it's not a difficult transition. I also hold the thumbsticks a bit different for DJI controllers. I use strictly thumbs with DJI while I use a bit of my index finger for FPV.
Hi. I got a controller recently to practice on simulators. I was wondering whether the gimbal on the right should also be loose like the gimbal on the left (throttle). Thanks!
First time I flew I blew up the throttle flew above my house than I Panik flipped and I had to repair it for the next 2 weeks or so... Nothing broke tho
I was in the simulator, I keep accidentally throttling up or down when yaw-ing left or right while taking a turn and I just can't fricken take a turn 😂. Ughhhh. Should I change my yaw stick or do you think it just comes with time?
@@EdRickerVlogs tx16s(hall gimbal version), it's my first radio purchase..so I have no clue what the other gimbal feels like. This one has like a clicky feel when throttling up/down.
I've dried Velocidrone, DCL, DRL, Zephyr, and Liftoff. I've found Liftoff multiplayer to be done, and DCL has great graphics. I'm not sure about any newer ones though.
Hey there, I just got a firefly 1s nano baby as my first fun quad. A weird thing I am discoloring is that if I hold the throttle the quad will go back down to earth.. I have to constantly give some throttle and release to hold it on a certain altitude. Does anyone may know a nice setting to fix this in betaflight? :/
Haha I just don't really get it! I got it a bit with the DJI Goggles actually....I guess because the field of view is so much wider. FatShark goggles have a narrower FOV if I recall, just doesn't really mess with me. Sitting may help too if it affects you.
FPV drones aren't designed or intended to hover and take pictures unfortunately. You're probably looking for a Mavic style drone to do that type of thing and not an FPV drone.
@@EdRickerVlogs I found this item in amazon and also a similar in alibaba and I wonder about this matter: Optical Flow Sensor, Yuenhoang FPV RC Drone Optical Flow Module Hovering Altitude Hold Optical Flow Sensor Balance Visual Position Board for Racing Quadcopter Multicopter Flight Control... What is that sensor for? Thanks for answer!

I would recommend you getting " radiomaster tx16s" as your controller, as for goggles it depends on your budget, for less than 100 you can get the ev800d, an in the 300 range you can choose from skyzone 02c, 02x or 03O ranked from cheapest to best. For top of the line you can get fatshark hdo2's with a rapidfire module but that'll be 600+ bucks. Watch some reviews and you'll find what fits your needs.
I dont agree on the flight modes part. I have been doing this hobby for 5 years and my biggest mistake was starting to fly in modes. It doesnt give the proper feel and when u go acro mode u need to relearn ur feel and fly. For the rest it was a good tuturial for beginners...

Now that I'm flying in the Liftoff simulator, I can't make any progress (using controls like the ones on DJI FPV) ... never mind, I won't bother you anymore ... while I used different controls, I flew like a bird, and now I feel like an idiot :(
Is there a way to have throttle triggers?
Years ago I flew RC airplanes. It looks like the FPV controls & flight is similar to that, opposed to my DJI P4P controls & flight. Does the flight orientation get confusing for FPV vs your photographic drones?
Hi Chris,
The flight styles are so different that the controls don't really get confused from FPV to DJI. Occasionally it'll feel a little odd if I haven't flown DJI in a while, but generally it's not a difficult transition. I also hold the thumbsticks a bit different for DJI controllers. I use strictly thumbs with DJI while I use a bit of my index finger for FPV.
With the sticks does throttle always have to be the one that stays where you leave it?
You can open up the radio and disengage the springs on either gimbal to make them work the way you want them to.
I assume this does not work similarly to DJI with the Altitude hold? GPS locked?
not at all,you are in complete control of these quads
Hi. I got a controller recently to practice on simulators. I was wondering whether the gimbal on the right should also be loose like the gimbal on the left (throttle). Thanks!
Nope, the throttle needs to be loose but not the other gimbal
@@EdRickerVlogs Thank you!
What radio/controller are you using?
@@EdRickerVlogs tx16s(hall gimbal version), it's my first radio purchase..so I have no clue what the other gimbal feels like. This one has like a clicky feel when throttling up/down.
Hi! Whats the name of the sim he's using 0:38 ?
It's called Liftoff, you can find it on Steam
0:57 can you swap ALL FUNCTIONS OF THE STICKS? I want pitch and roll on the left and throttle and yaw on the right.. HELP ME.
I came to clown, then you guys laid it down. Thanks
hey bro.... which Simulator have you used?
I've dried Velocidrone, DCL, DRL, Zephyr, and Liftoff. I've found Liftoff multiplayer to be done, and DCL has great graphics. I'm not sure about any newer ones though.
Where did you buy the landing pad???

Hey there, I just got a firefly 1s nano baby as my first fun quad. A weird thing I am discoloring is that if I hold the throttle the quad will go back down to earth.. I have to constantly give some throttle and release to hold it on a certain altitude. Does anyone may know a nice setting to fix this in betaflight? :/
How do you get past the dizzy feeling? I tried FPV and just felt sick.
Haha I just don't really get it! I got it a bit with the DJI Goggles actually....I guess because the field of view is so much wider. FatShark goggles have a narrower FOV if I recall, just doesn't really mess with me. Sitting may help too if it affects you.
Great video! Thanks! How can I static the drone on air, like to rest, or position the drone to a photo. Do I need a special sensor add-on?
FPV drones aren't designed or intended to hover and take pictures unfortunately. You're probably looking for a Mavic style drone to do that type of thing and not an FPV drone.
@@EdRickerVlogs I found this item in amazon and also a similar in alibaba and I wonder about this matter: Optical Flow Sensor, Yuenhoang FPV RC Drone Optical Flow Module Hovering Altitude Hold Optical Flow Sensor Balance Visual Position Board for Racing Quadcopter Multicopter Flight Control...
My idea was that sometimes I would like to rest 10 seconds, while the drone is stabilized, maybe not to take a picture, but maybe to relax a little bit with the view, without worries about the control. What is that sensor for? Thanks for answer!
Thank you for sharing this great info, I’m videographer on wedding and sweet 16, in I bought my first drone because I will like to have a plus on my videos, I will wondering if you can help me please. My drone is “ iflight Green Hornet 3inch cine whoop 4S FPV with a Receptor FrSky R-XSR ” and I don’t know if that means I need to buy FrSky controller or I can purchase FlySky controller please somebody can help me and which goggles you can recommend me it’s my firs experience.
Ha! Tdub!
simulator name
Having a spotter is an FAA rule when using fpv goggles.
You must always maintain line of sight with your drone.
I bet you're real fun at parties...
WBrooks530 haha
I dont agree on the flight modes part. I have been doing this hobby for 5 years and my biggest mistake was starting to fly in modes. It doesnt give the proper feel and when u go acro mode u need to relearn ur feel and fly. For the rest it was a good tuturial for beginners...
Are you referring to when we talked about Mode 2?
So wish I had watched this 3 months ago. I’ve crashed a lot 🙈
Share this with anyone you know who's just getting started. It may help!
I just ordered tinyhawk 2 to crash in the house alot learning
I spent about $2k to realize this is extremely hard
Once you see the DJI FPV video feed quality, you will never look through those wack goggles lol.
this is much harder than controlling helicopter by mouse in gta
