I watched the whole video and did not jump to the end. Knowing other body types helps. Especially if your measurements suggest a rectangle but you have small shoulders. Now I realise at the end, I am not rectangle. Love these videos.
I am 43 and I LOVE your content. I’ve been sending videos to my mom, who is 20 years older than me-which shows the range of ladies you are inspiring and helping. I’ve been told I was hourglass shaped (or apple when I gain) for 20 years. I learned today that I am a pear. I think I was told “hourglass” because I am large busted with evened out hips and a smaller waist, but no! I have a small frame and I am only 5’2. My shoulders are very narrow, and I am long waisted even though I am petite. You described me PERFECTLY when describing the pear. I always thought pear-shaped meant you were small busted (exclusively) with larger hips or larger hips and legs. I didn’t know it was about the shoulders. Even the diagram was spot on! Bless you for this!
Thank you for this! I just wasted a half hour on pinterest trying in vain to find some fashion tips and it was very frustrating sorting through all the click bait and ads etc. You get right to the point and these tips are very helpful.

U r so kind when u explain things also. I'm now looking forward to clothes shopping instead of dreading it. Love the other video u did as well about the capris, sandals & the bold blue print top that overpowered you. thanks again!

@@jessietijerina2121 I’ve gathered that a lot of ppl group an hour glass shape in with pear shaped but I’m an hour glass and I disagree with that grouping.
Excellent video! Sleeve length is os overlooked and forgotten. Yet it plays such a massive role in how we look. The long sleeve is very common but is unflattering on most of us women. I think a sleeve that stops just at the elbow or slightly above or below is the most flattering on all women. When I wear a long sleeve, I will push it to just below my elbow, and it brings in the waist and takes the emphasis off the hips.
And now I know!!! I recently purchased the exact shrug you show in the video at the end because I realized my arms are gross when I wear sleeveless tops (my opinion, and the only one that actually matters) Everytime I wear the shrug people, some I know, some I've never met, comment on how thin I am. It always seems so odd to me. Now I understand why! Thank you!
Pear shape here. I miss the shoulder pads of the 80’s! They always made me look more balanced. But just because you have a “pear shape” doesn’t mean you have a small waist. :( Menopause years just add a belly and flapping arms to the pear shape. :D I love watching these videos, but it’s always a little frustrating because the “models” are NOT in their 50’s and 60’s and they are still young without all the issues many of us older ladies have.

Thank you for this great video. Very helpful. I notice that sleeves are so long on tops. I generally go towards the 3/4 length sleeve, which is much more comfortable. I love the way you pointed out how sleeves can make a difference.

Yes, would really help as most people don't want to watch about other body shapes other than their own. Pear - 0 - 9.40 minutes Apple - 9.43 - 15.35 Rectangle - 15.36 - 21.55
Don’t forget we are just interested in ourselves. I do want to say, thank you as there is very little information for people that don’t have the perfect body... also for your videos of over 50s... I am nearly there and it’s really hard to choose clothing
Great video and I liked most of the "after" looks. Like some of the other ladies commented, those overly flowy and wispy sleeves aren't very practical for work (even in an office) or for a dinner date. But they'd be fine to go to a party or the movies. What I'd like to see as a follow up is what winter clothing works for which type as the tops shown look to be for summer and are not warm at all.
Pear shape here!! Thank you for the great tips. Going to definitely remember NOT to dress square! Also not hide my poor waist, it's been so underrated. 😄

Your advise is fabulous. I have heavy arms and use small shoulder pads on all tops. Just adding that little bit of width takes off pounds and creates a good proportion. I have done this for years but rarely do I ever see a reference to this solution. Sleeves are totally ignored but thanks to you the word is now out!
Waaaa! You didn't cover hourglass. Everybody seems to think that is the perfect shape, but I often feel like fashions are designed for everybody else. A large chest tends to make me look really fat. Anything that isn't cinched in hangs straight down and looks like a big circus tent. I hope you have a special program for us. Fitted clothes used to really look great on me, but as I'm older, I now have a belly to hide. Thanks for the tips, though. I'll try to figure out what to do from here.
Thanks for your comment Anything Is Possible! I will make a stand alone hourglass body type video...coming soon...I have loads of options for you and you can use many of the tips in this video too ❤
Me too! I'm an hourglass. I hate belts, want to hide my stomach after 3 kids and a 120 lbs weight loss... but I'm a DD size 12. Everything looks awful! I watched the video 2x thinking I must have zoned out on the hourglass part. Help!
Very helpful! Not sure if you addressed my body type. Also, I’m 74 now, and my arms are crepey. I live in So. Calif where it is warm to hot so I have a closet full of sleeveless dresses and tops which no longer are flattering. I’d like some very lightweight shrugs or something as a layer to cover my arms... and that are solid colors which will go with many things.
... Hi Georgie Hughes in CA.... I previously lived in California, and I am now almost 65. :) what I found helpful as I had a lot of these little cute little sleeveless tops and you know tank top type things that were you know that had the wider shoulders I went searching and I found beautiful lightweight" sheer sleeved ' blouses ....... not only will that keep protect your arms from the Sun but it will also keep you cool and add that small layer , to cover up anything you don't like ! one blousev in particular that I found that I loved it is white voile type fabric and it had black edging on the cuffs and a black edging on the placket and on the collar... So lovely. ... and it had a squared longer hem so that you could wear it tucked in or not. I usually wear something like that not tucked in you just wanted to look flowy and just have it be part of your ensemble and I got so many compliments on some of these blouses, it's just a little layer to help you feel more confident. Ihope this helps you I'm not sure if I have a picture of it I did wear it a lot and I do still have it and I purchased it 10 years ago when I lived in California.
Shelby Lawton Yes, thank you for your reply. That sounds very much like what I’m hoping to find... even wanting to stylishly tie a blouse over the top of some of my sleeveless dresses or tops. I spend most of my time at church activities. I do like the softer look.. and light fabrics, especially if layering things.
@@georgiehughes4858 ... Thank you so much for your kind reply. See, ....?! You've got it figured out, I'm sure that you'll be looking fabulous! God bless 🙏
Shelby Lawton Shelby, I think I have an idea as to what would look nice or stylish, but can’t seem to find the right things. I like a number of the blouses you have in your video, but styles in the stores have changed. I used to dress “up” more as a younger woman.... I’m a widow now, and definitely don’t have the budget to replace many of my clothes... I like to do as you show in your videos... Not make myself look older than necessary. I like the peplum tops but don’t know where to find them anymore. Actually, I don’t shop much either. My husband always enjoyed taking me out shopping and trying on clothes... That’s why I have closets full of things. I must be frugal now... I have even tried looking at thrift stores for that extra layer. Anyway, your video on wearing soft flows fabrics and looking curvy has inspired me... I’ll keep trying...
Such wonderful information, I am 62 and have always had a somewhat thicker waist. About 5 years ago that ‘middle’ area seems to attract every extra calorie i consume. Thank you for sharing these tips and tricks. I must have unconsciously thought about this because I just rummaged through my closet and found a couple fine knit sweaters and flowered low neck line cami’s and tanks to wear under the sweaters. Just by pushing the light sweaters up to my elbow has given me a whole knew look. Funny how things creep to the back of our closets if we think we can’t wear them.
Majority of my customer who are overweight/ obese , ect are constantly asking to buy my upper arm bracelets..😥.this way of dressing makes sense. Great tips 👌
Lots of great information. Most "apples" I know though, do not have a small bust. Quite the contrary, they usually have disproportionately large chests; more upside-down Triangle than Apple, LOL>
You are adorable and I love your videos. So nice to have great advice on how to look and feel better while getting older more gracefully. It's not easy!
Im an apple 😓 and I used to wear that kind of shirts to try to hide my body, but was worse because at the end the result was a terrible boxy shape, as you said. THANK YOU so much for your advices!! Love your channel 💜
Great info! Never thought about the sleeve. I’m an apple shape plus I’m short (everywhere) and have big boobs. Shopping for flattering, affordable clothes is very difficult
Although I guess I'm not the average over 50's size, I do appreciate the need to dress according to one's body shape. I've gained a few pounds during CoVid and recovering from back & hip issues. I think these beautiful clothing options are great warmer weather options, however I'd love to see options for cold weather like these. I can't wait to see what Shelley will show!
I am so self conscious about my arms! Probably a little too much - so I am excited to try these, I usually dress to cover my arms and not to pull the body together.
im in my 30s but I have been watching her videos and learned a lot of amazing tips already, you dont have to be over 50 to get tips you can apply for yourself, needless to say, I decided to subscribe.
I just ran across your channel and love it. I am 65 years old, but people guess my age in the late 40s. I have been lucky to have a face type that ages well, (I think it is oval). In the past year I have started getting wrinkles around my mouth area and would appreciate some advice on best way to reduce those wrinkles or make them less noticeable. I have always had no problem dressing young but in the past year I have gained weight in the belly area and upper arms. I think I am sort of an apple shape, but I am naturally very large breasted, wide shoulders, no waistline, narrow hips and thin legs. Because of my breasts, I have always had a hard time finding clothes to fit right. Also, a lot of the cute, younger tops these days are short, which doesn't work well with my bulgy tummy or tucking shirts into my pant waist. I am going to the beach in January so obviously jackets during the day won't work. I would appreciate any suggestions. I like the boho look but not sure if that look is flattering to my body. Hope to hear from you soon! Thanks so much!
Shellea- u r such an inspiration! Would you be able to discuss on your channel the topic of sagging jaw line and neck- what you are doing - make up tricks etc. I use your work out videos all the time! You’re amazing!
I’ve always had doubt about my body shape. But with your very nice illustration and detailed info, I now can confirm I’m an Apple shape. No wonder I always prefer those clothes of mine that has soft fabrics. Thank you.
I became aware of the sleeve thing and I suit a 3/4 sleeve. Only trouble is - in winter I freeze because my arm is not covered. I also suit a v neck, so again that's cold in winter. But a long sleeve and high neck makes me look 20K heavier. LOL.
You probably have already done a video on this but I wanted to know if you have a video to show how to dress if you have a big belly. Like a pregnant belly. I’ve been telling people who ask when is the baby due “any day now. I’ve been waiting 10 years”!
A special thanks for the links to the websites. Sometimes, even if you know es hat you need, you dont know where to find it, and it takes a ton of time to find it. Thank you.
I really enjoyed this video, and the tips for Apple shaped figures. The importance of visual appearance and focusing on specific features of the body are so essential. I like your technique of drawing on the screen over the photos so the viewer can clearly see the differences made with a change of fashion. Thank you :-)

Thank you. That was interesting. I have not gotten your videos for awhile. I am glad I am getting them. I have figured out from some of your previous videos, I need an A line type top. The most flattering. Thank you for your tips 😊
I'm hour glass but 5'4 and I do have a tummy now that I 'm trying to hide (no low waist jeans for me,lol.) I love the kimono (short) idea to slim my chest. and flowing half sleeves.
Do you have advice for inverted triangle shapes? I have a narrow frame with slim arms, wide shoulders, large bust with a defined waist but very small hips.
I was a pear when I was younger but now I am a apple... lol! Super spot on advice! Yes I have noticed especially as I have gotten older to make sure I like the cut of the sleeves! & a kimono is a girls best friend! I have acquired quite a collection over the past couple years! 😉👌💕
I use to be an apple shape and then I had weight loss surgery and lost 90lbs. I was to thin and needed to gain some weight back. I’ve kept off 75lbs and now a square shape. I still dress like I am an apple shape. Oversized tops. The reason being I have a lot of loose belly flab. I try to wear tops that cover my tummy hang/spare tire. I hate when I raise and lower my arms and my shirts rest on top of my belly. I did buy a dress that fits like the gray shirt that gathers to the side of the waist on the lady with the square shape and let me tell you! It made me look like I had a tiny waist and my waist is only 2” smaller than my hips and 4” smaller than my bust line. Only thing is it shows all my back fat lol Would love for you to do undergarments or shape wear for those of us that need it. I ordered a bunch from Shapermint and all it did was push my fat down even further and stick out even worse. And they roll down. I do t care what they say. So embarrassingly being in public and that sticky band roll all the way down. Thank you so much for your videos!!
I love this advice. I knew about the capped sleeves and cinched waist but had no idea about sleeve length--as a pear shape. Where is the link to buy those cinched waist tops? Thank you!
The problem I have with flowy tops for apple shaped is you can do nothing with flowy sleeves. Forget cooking, eating, chemistry, or cleaning. Those sleeves will catch everything.
Oh yes, I just can’t wear long sleeves that aren’t cuffed because they get in the way of everything I do. I’m sure people who’ve got the money to pay for a cook, cleaner, gardener etc can get away with it!
Same, but it does seem the peplum tops with floaty sleeves look flattering on most body types. That and sleeves that leave your wrists open. I Personally like 3/4 length on myself in the warmer months
Thank you so much Schellea for all the beautiful examples you used to enhance our body types. What an amazing improvement. We’re heading into winter and I’ll wear a slim turtle neck under some of your examples to make it work for cold weather. Blessings, love and hugs.... Sherry

Me too! I'm an hourglass. I hate belts, want to hide my stomach after 3 kids and a 120 lbs weight loss... but I'm a DD size 12. Everything looks awful! I watched the video 2x thinking I must have zoned out on the hourglass part. Help!
Anything Is Possible I also feel so left out. Hourglass, please.
I use aveeno lotion it's amazing for dry mature skin
Such wonderful information, I am 62 and have always had a somewhat thicker waist. About 5 years ago that ‘middle’ area seems to attract every extra calorie i consume. Thank you for sharing these tips and tricks. I must have unconsciously thought about this because I just rummaged through my closet and found a couple fine knit sweaters and flowered low neck line cami’s and tanks to wear under the sweaters. Just by pushing the light sweaters up to my elbow has given me a whole knew look. Funny how things creep to the back of our closets if we think we can’t wear them.

This was so helpful, love the way you have covered each shape in depth, I’m definitely taking notes. Thank you for sharing xx

So happy I found your channel❤️ Never realized how much sleeves matter!!
Hi Kita H and welcome to fabulous50s! I'm happy you are here...Thanks so much for watching and have an amazing week 💕
Im so happy you enjoyed the video Lauren Shaeffer-Foley! Thanks for taking the time to comment ❤️
Hi Lauren
You're so awesome! You make me want to look and feel better about myself.
Thanks for your perfect explanations. I'm a pear, and now i've really unterstand how to look good. 😘
Hi Jennifer Roberson! Thanks so much for watching...Have a great weekend 💕

fabulous50s Thanks, you too❤️
Tigana. Oh my goodness, I thought the same thing! I got so relaxed and almost sleepy listening to her 🌟
I really like the calm presentation without the fake over excited voice.
Have fun experimenting Ramona Samuels! Thanks so much for watching...Have a great day 💕

Hi Kerryn 56 and a warm welcome to fabulous50s! Thanks so much for watching and have an amazing week 💕
Hi Kerryn
Hi Vici Huizinga! Thanks so much for your lovely comment... I will add your request to my list...Have an amazing week 💕
I love your well-defined instructions. Thank you!!!!!
Im so happy you enjoyed the video Jay Rainstone Thanks for taking the time to comment ❤️
I’ve always had doubt about my body shape. But with your very nice illustration and detailed info, I now can confirm I’m an Apple shape. No wonder I always prefer those clothes of mine that has soft fabrics. Thank you.
I loved reading your comment Bonnie Koh! Im happy you have some clarity and thanks for letting me know ❤️
I’m 8 stone and 5ft 2 not many petite shops, it’s all trail and error and I’m hip-less just straight down. Thank you.
Hi Jean Davies! Thanks so much for watching...Have a great day 💕
I became aware of the sleeve thing and I suit a 3/4 sleeve. Only trouble is - in winter I freeze because my arm is not covered. I also suit a v neck, so again that's cold in winter. But a long sleeve and high neck makes me look 20K heavier. LOL.
I would rather stay warm in winter and wear full length sleeve regardless what it makes me look like, just silly to be cold.
Wear a scarf around your neck.that keep u warm.nice soft shape.Not knitted.
Very good information! I’m glad you included actual outfits and links to them. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful S J! Thanks so much for watching...Have a great day 💕
You probably have already done a video on this but I wanted to know if you have a video to show how to dress if you have a big belly. Like a pregnant belly. I’ve been telling people who ask when is the baby due “any day now. I’ve been waiting 10 years”!
I have the same challenge. Cutting back on carbs helps so much. Get the sugar out of your diet .
Thank you for your advice for pear shaped more mature women. Easy to remember: set a waistline, show off neck and lower arms.
Thank you :-)
You're so welcome Lorraine! Thanks so much for watching...Have a great day 💕

Thanks for your comment Jennifer Roya! Im sending you a big hug 🤗
Hello Jennifer
Hi Deborah Smith! Thanks so much for watching...Have a great day 💕
Do you have advice for inverted triangle shapes? I have a narrow frame with slim arms, wide shoulders, large bust with a defined waist but very small hips.
Monica It seemed like her Apple shaped graphic was actually inverted triangle so I found that confusing too
Hi Monica! yes I do...I will talk about your shape in an upcoming video...Thanks so much for watching...Have a great day 💕

Im so happy you enjoyed the video Cindy Hughes Thanks for taking the time to comment ❤️
Hello Cindy
I was a pear when I was younger but now I am a apple... lol! Super spot on advice! Yes I have noticed especially as I have gotten older to make sure I like the cut of the sleeves! & a kimono is a girls best friend! I have acquired quite a collection over the past couple years! 😉👌💕
Hi Deborah Benjamin! Thanks so much for watching...Have a great day 💕
Love the attention to detail especially the sleeves 👘
@@rhonddalesley flowy sleeves are terrible. Can't wear them.
I've enjoyed your video . They way you explain things is brilliant . Just wish you did the hour glass shape in this video 💚💙💙💜
Thanks for your tips on the various body type!
Thank you 😘 for sharing I'm I saw exactly what I should not be wearing loved this video xx
Hi Milly Stassen! Thanks so much for watching...Have a great day 💕
I love this concept, but I don’t seem to be any of these shapes😳🤣🤣🤣🤣
Same, but it does seem the peplum tops with floaty sleeves look flattering on most body types. That and sleeves that leave your wrists open. I Personally like 3/4 length on myself in the warmer months
Thank you so much Schellea for all the beautiful examples you used to enhance our body types. What an amazing improvement. We’re heading into winter and I’ll wear a slim turtle neck under some of your examples to make it work for cold weather. Blessings, love and hugs.... Sherry
