    Dude!! I had a last min wedding and the first bridesmaids INSISTED she wanted me to use the foundation she brought with her. I let her know I had plenty to suit her needs but she said that one made her feel the best. So I did and as I’m whipping down and cleaning it off to apply to her, she starts saying to the room that she should get a discount cause I’m using her product... It hurt so bad cause it was a last min booking, I thought I would be treated with a little more respect... 😞

      @proud2bnumber1 3 года назад +2

      Wow that is crazy! I thought she would maybe want to use her own foundation because she has sensible skin and was afraid that a new foundation could break her out or something like that! Totally not ok! People have some crazy ideas...

    • @julieruby
      @julieruby  3 года назад +3

      WOW! That is super frustrating!! I can't believe she wouldn't be more grateful considering you dropped everything in your own life to be there for that wedding. I don't feel like you had much of a choice to use her foundation considering that she pretty much insisted I don't feel like she had the right at all to ask for a discount. I'm so sorry that happened to you!

      That's what I thought at first too when I was reading Misty's comment, but oh no that definitely was not the case! Just another client wanting to get a discount :(

    I just started my freelance business back up at the beginning of this summer and have been loving watching your videos!
    I completely agree that the "do whatever you want" client can be the most challenging. I recently did a trial where the bride said that she didn't typically wear a lot of makeup and didn't have any inspiration photos. She also said that she doesn't normally like how other people do her makeup, so that added to the pressure. I tried to do my best to give her a natural, pretty bridal look, but I could tell when I left that she wasn't going to hire me. I felt bad that I couldn't give her what she wanted, but it's really difficult when you have no clue what that is.

      Hi Karlee! Thank you so much 😊 so glad you’ve been enjoying my videos :) yes those clients can be very difficult! It’s just important to not only ask as many questions as possible but make sure you’re asking the right ones. A lot of clients don’t know a lot about makeup and won’t really know how to describe what they want to you which makes it harder! Try not to let this discourage you too much. It’s happened to all of us!

    I have all of those clients 😂. And what’s annoyed me when I already asked them to share me looks what they want days before & on the day they still don’t know what they want. So I did 1 eye look see if they like it, if they didn’t like it I have to suggest another look, the worst part is I only have little times to get all done since they always in hurry... 😂🔫.

    • @julieruby
      @julieruby  3 года назад

      Thank you! So glad to hear that you’re starting your journey as a makeup artist :) Every bride will need makeup that is long lasting since they’ll have it on all day. It more so depends on the technique as opposed to the products! For instance, matte foundations will always be more long lasting then satin/dewy ones, but you always want to set them really well with powder and setting spray!

    what would you do if a client told you exactly what they want (even with photos) and the professional made a totally different thing and not only that but also tried to make you believe that is what you wanted (obviously is not the case)

    • @julieruby
      @julieruby  2 месяца назад

      It's always a little bit frustrating when artists tend to think they know what's best and do not truly listen to the client. It's a learned skill from an artist's point of view and is most important when dealing with clients.

    Hi Julie! thanks for your videos! You share some really helpful stuff :D I wanted to ask if you have been a situation where you did a trial for someone, they paid for it but then you had doubts about it and didn't want to continue with their wedding? How do/did you back out of that commitment? Did you have them pay you for the trial then call them later to say you weren't going to take on the wedding? Was their any conflict ? did you offer to refer them to another artist? How soon after the trial did you tell them no for the wedding? Thanks again for your advice!

    • @julieruby
      @julieruby  Год назад +1

      Hi!! I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos :) To be honest, you shouldn’t back out on a bride yourself unless it’s an emergency. I normally will say no on initial inquiry, but once you do the trial you should be committed to them. Someone has however backed out on me after the trial, but since I have them sign a contract in advance all my bases were covered.

    I just started out as a freelance makeup artist this year and honestly I don’t think i’m even going to respond to people that try to negotiate the price. Thankfully I haven’t run into that issue yet. It’s so disrespectful. It’s like you said, you wouldn’t walk into Ulta and try to negotiate so why is it different with me? No thank you. I’m curious, do you ever get clients that you can tell just wanted the free trial and then don’t book you? Do you usually do their whole face for the trial?

    • @julieruby
      @julieruby  3 года назад +2

      That’s amazing!! Welcome to the makeup artistry world :) As frustrating it is, I would still respond to the negotiators just because you don’t want to get a bad reputation for not responding. As far as trials, most of the time I won’t do a trial if a bride hasn’t signed a contract & put a deposit down. If she insists on doing a trial first, she owe me the full amount of the application at the end. This way I don’t lose out or get taken advantage of!
