Taking advantage of Ableton Live's powerful warping features is essential when working with samples or when preparing for a DJ set or live performance.
Here's my method of warping whole tracks to Live's grid. It works every time, provided that the track has regular tempo. Otherwise you'll need to adjust the parts where it starts to drift manually.
Let me know if it works for you!
Peace.

I have some old recordings of my own that I would like to bring into the 21st century. I think this is the perfect way to approach that. Many thanks.
I’m glad that the video was helpful!
I've been looking for this kind info for over two years and you managed to demystify in a few minutes. Saved my life!
Yeah, this method is very efficient. Glad it was helpful!
The way you broke it down in small steps was helpful, appreciate it. Looking forward the chopping video.
Thanks for watching man! Chopping video coming soon-ish ✌️
Playing the sample outside of Ableton is the best tip! Always got frustrated when the grid kept changing. Thanks man
Aaah, I’m glad you found it useful! You’re welcome.
First track warping video I've watched. Straight forward, informative, and articulate. Thanks bro!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching!
very helpful tutorial, a lot of guys on YT show the chopping part but the warping is quite important, and you nailed the explanation. thanks a lot!
Glad it was helpful!
The best warping tutorial I have seen so far. Warping is now crystal clear . Many thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi, While i kinda knew how to do this, your tutorial allowed me today to smash through a track in 5 minutes compared the normal hour or two of fluffing around.
Thanks a heap for taking the time to put up a tutorial on this!
Yeah, this method is very efficient. Glad the video was helpful!
Holy fuck thank you! never understood this part of sampling for years. GAME CHANGER !
I’m really glad the video was helpful!
love this! Very clear and concise, and even as a long-time ableton user I learned a few new tools and shortcuts for warping!
Awesome! Glad the video was useful!
Very useful. Thanks for your tutorials and inspiring ideas!!
Salute 🙌
Great video! That last part was the gem on top of it all (i.e. select, drap, and drop into a simpler track). Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Such a great, informative video. Thank you & subbed
Thank you for the sub!

Very Helpful
Thank you 🙏
Glad it was helpful!
Ive been watching vids all day trying to figure this out, and you were the only one that explained in a way that was understandable to me. Officially my go to channel for Ableton content 👍🏻
Thank you so much 👊
you probably dont give a shit but does any of you know a trick to get back into an Instagram account..?
I was stupid lost my account password. I would love any assistance you can give me!
@Kaden Kylo instablaster =)
@Emmitt Marshall thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out now.
Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Emmitt Marshall It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my ass !
Simple and straight-forward. Some people will complicate the simple process to the point of absolute confusion.
Glad it was useful Michael!
Thank you So Very Much! I knew how to do this in Samplitude Pro but had no idea how to do this in Ableton Live. 💖💖💖
Glad the video was helpful!
So good!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is the second helpful video i've seen from you. Subbed man, very nice work 💪

Cheers man ✌️
Great video man! Learned a lot 👌🏾 Do you have any videos to reprogram a drum beat to change the pattern of an audio track?
Glad it was useful! I have such a video and although it's not the most straight-forward way of doing it, it might be useful - ruclips.net/video/07RnEc7a3TU/видео.html
I recommend Serato Sample. Its a great Sampler and it tells you the key and BPM of the samples. Its frequently on sale. I think its a must have if you dont own any hardware like a Maschine or MPC
I know Serato Sample is good but I feel it's slightly redundant here. The built-in tools in Live are excellent for sampling, actually better than Maschine or MPC. They do it all, except for telling you the key but you can use a free app for this or learn to find it by ear.
Do you use warping for your DJ sets? Or for sampling purposes when making beats? Drop me a comment! ⛄️
Yup. Chop, BPM up/down and pitch change = the holy trinity.
Yes
Sampling and getting the tempo just right on some old projects when I didn't know what I was doing yet. Hopefully for DJing by the summertime...
Hey man, awesome video. Just. a question, what if I want to use the beginning of the sample too? What shall I do once I've set the 1.1.1 position? Thank you
Glad you enjoyed the video! You need to drag the start if the sample to reveal the greyed-out part. Kinda hard to explain over a RUclips comment but it’s easy to do.
The flag marker.
#SuperDope Thanks for the lesson.
Thank you for watching 👊
Thanks for the video. Why bother rounding the tempo to a whole number? What advantage does it bring?
Because it's not very likely that it was the correct tempo to begin with. Tapping the tempo gives you the ballpark bpm but when making music with a sequencer, people mostly use round numbers. With live music it's different of course.
Good video! I just work with a vocal track, and then the transients are not nicely on the beat, so that requires some extra techniques/skills. I guess like fixed grid off. Also weird: Ableton keeps guessing the track is 120 where it is clearly 110. But I understood this is a hard topic. Got it right, but now I have to find out how i did it ;-)
Glad the video was helpful! How the Seg BPM is set is also explained in the video though, so maybe re-watch that part if it's not entirely clear.
This method makes the Position that you chose jump to 1.1 in the arrangement. I dont want my track to start in the middle of the song. How can I do this without changing the Start position of the track?
Just drag the start of the clip on the arranegement view to the left to uncover the part of the track that's before 1.1.1. You may need to move the clip to the right before doing that.
Low Heat Beats. I loved it. What I don't understand about Donna Washington track - I understand it takes serious times to keep putting in warp markers and screws up the groove as you add a shedload of warp markers.
When you put it in Simpler, was that that remainder of the track or just bars 5-9? What if you need to warp the whole track is the Simpler some kind of solution or were you saying "I've warped as much of this as I need?" And the bit in Simpler was simply to chop?
I'll watch your chopping video with pleasure. As you know, if you have a good timing, manually finding great beats or whole sections in Arrangement view is a joy- fun and easy. It's incredibly over-looked considering it's been there forever.
Glad you enjoyed it! Tbh it’s an old video so I can’t answer your questions, I need to rewatch it to do that. I’ve made other videos where I chop samples with Simpler, you may want to check them out. Appreciate you watching and commenting!
god
Thanks!
Any way to do this with a music video?
Hmm, good question but I’m not sure tbh
Hi, Thanks for your video!
I have a BPM alignment problem with my 70s / 80s discomusic files.
They
were played by real musicians and therefore their BPM is not as perfect as a
metronome. (Drifting tempo). Also if I want to add a drum loop for the whole
project, the warp will fail sooner or later ...
I waste a lot of time to warp
the whole song :-(
Any advice?
Thank you for your answer.
A greeting DrJFilix.
The advice is towards the end of the video - you need to create warp markers to warp different regions to correct the drifting tempo. I'm afraid there's no way around it.
@@LowHeatBeats
The problem is that in my files, the BPM vary very frequently and it can happen that after 1-2-3-4 measures one or more beats are already out of sync ... Much also depends on both the source and how they were sampled. ..
a losing fight if I want the whole song with constant bpm.
I can't even wear yellow clothespins as I call them only in drum breaks, because the rest would be out of time anyway ... Grrrrrr
complex mode removes high end for me sometimes when I use the second method.
Yeah, depends on the material. Complex is mostly good for full songs.
Great video man!! Only one thing, I have ADHD and was distracted by the windmills in the background 🤣🤣
I hear you! I made this video a couple of years go when I used to experiment with this stuff. But your point is totally valid and I no longer add such backgrounds to my tutorials.
@@LowHeatBeats I thought so haha but anyway a very helpful video 👍🏻
After warping a sample how do you chop it? I saw that you created a simpler. Is this correct? Also, to go to a slower tempo(after warping) just turn down the tempo. Three years of not knowing how to warp, but wanting to.🤣
Yeah, just load a Simpler and check this video on now to chop ruclips.net/video/nRyQ_jYYLWM/видео.html
Hi bro!
Thank you for this knowledge..
I have a quick question:
Why not also use "Warp from here straight? to make sure it aligns all of the transients for sure. Is SET 1.1. here always enough to align everything, or do you find yourself using both?
Thank You!
Yes, if the tempo of the track doesn't change, set 1.1.1 here is sufficient, it has always worked for me. But obviously you can try the other option if the bpm fluctuates and you're having trouble aligning it to the grid.
Yo thank you for this reply brother!!!!!
Meu amigo, meu espírito boom bap de São Paulo no Brasil te ama kkkkkkkk
Thanks my friend!
What if there’s no drums in a sample?
Depends if there’s another rhythmic element that can help you establish the tempo. But it’s more difficult if you have no drums or any other rhythms.
This is more difficult to do to Accapellas?
Definitely. You don’t have the drums to make it easy to align to the grid and many acapellas don’t start on the first beat of the instrumental, which also makes it harder.
@@LowHeatBeats Is there a reccomended way to do them or have you just gotta do it bit by bit over drums?
@@ProudManc I don't think there's a method that works every time but I'll look into it and try to make a video if I find out something that works most of the time.
Low Heat Beats Thanks bro, Keep up the awesome work 🎶🙌🏻🎶
and the begin of the track (without kick) ?? should that not warping??
Did I forget to explain this in video? It’s an older video, so I don’t remember if I did.
@@LowHeatBeats you can see it on your own video ;-) but for intro's (mix) is this maybe important (there is no kick or hiat of whatever)
@@chestnut40 You can just drag the start of the clip to reveal the intro, just be careful not to put it off the grid, no need to warp the intro.
@@LowHeatBeats aaah ok, thanks!
I was making a long (audio)mix in Ableton but the first track (intro) i couldn't get tight (there is no kick, beat, hiat or melody) when i shifting the first 1.1.1 marker in the arrangement view, everything will be shifting :-/ (wave-file) but now is resolved (Pin the kick marker and then drag the first marker to a right grid) :)) Thanks!
hallo zusammen, wenn ihr es einfacher machen wollt, liess einfach deine tracks vorher bei Rekordbox ein
DJ software may make it easier to find the BPM but won't align it with Live's grid, so you may still need to do it manually.
Really hate that Ableton shifts audio when trying to set tempo. As an engineer trying to move into Ableton from Pro Tools this is frustrating. When mixing a clients project I import all the stems for the project then name/ arrange them all. Then I find the tempo and set Pro Tools grid accordingly. Now all of my effects (delays/stutters) are in time. But Ableton SHIFTS THE SONG. Shit is mad annoying. Wish there was a quick bypass for this.
But that's exactly the point of the video. Did you actually watch it? I've explained how to set your warping settings in the beginning, depending on whether you want long stems to be auto warped or not.
didn't work for me at all
Try again. As you see it worked for me in the video and for loads of people who left positive feedback in the comments.
@@LowHeatBeats yes thanks i didn't press "warp from here" !! As you were...
@@loontil Oh yeah, it's a very important step, glad you got it working!
OMG Ableton LOL studio 😂
Today you can delete this video
I've already made a video about the warping update. And no, I will not delete it, it may still be useful to someone.
