It’s a nice bit of foreshadowing from Inbound that they expanded upon in Xen... love the little details that Crowbar Collective put in. I just made it obvious haha
Makes it more intense, considering the fact your being chased by Huge, armored walking bears with flamer-throwers!
Also, I think Gordon got his exercise already done by running from those things, like hell, he was running and jumping with a freaking jetpack or whatever it called. My man Freeman, he's a fucking badass!
The way he landed after the final jump was just so satisfying
That was my favorite part too... I would have done that for every jump but it only seemed appropriate for the last one.
Super hero Landing
The landing at 0:33 looks SO good. Love seeing Gordon using his entire body to move as efficiently as possible, very fitting for his limitless potential when it comes to navigating hazardous environments.
That long jump when the beat drops at 0:51 is perfection

I like how Gordon tried to shoot the first garg with a rocket and reloads while running away thinking, "Yeah, no way I am fighting you. I am out"

How curious that I found my way back to this video (which I've watched hundreds of times since I found it last year) just today on its two year anniversary. I'm obsessed with the amazingly fluid animations, I just adore how Gordon uses his entire body when jumping and landing. Don't even get me started on the final jump/landing, fucking badass as hell. Can't wait for more content or streams!!!! :D

@@Validatormaybelater Hell yeah, that'd kick ass! Taking advantage that you were so kind to respond, would you ever consider doing more third person animations? I love Gordon's HL:A model so much, it's so great to have an official and such good looking model, and I'd love to see you work more with it! Maybe you could grab specific sections you love from the game and recreate them in third person, like your "Unexpected Refreshment" video. Anyway, anything you do is obviously great, so I can't wait for more content! We're all rooting for you!

One of the reasons why I like first person animation is because of how faster it is to create... third person requires every etail to be fleshed out, whereas first person you really only have to worry about a few things.
I may consider some third person animation again, but never to Half-Reality's extent I think haha

I like that concept: by the time Gordon get to this point in his journey, he's seen enough to be emotionally hardened to the point where he can find humor or other emotions in dangerous situations that would otherwise make other people crack under the pressure.

During the entire xen chapter i like to imagine the science team reading all the data from gordon's suit trackers seeing what gordon is doing and cheering him on. Gordon is a fucking beast.
Not gonna lie, they probably are, a scientist even mentions Gordon’s suit is full of trackers, so the military keeps finding him.
What’s stopping scientists from doing the same?

the idea of the hev suit reminding gordon while he's in a borderworld fighting for his life to train in the hazard course is very funny to me
Yeah it breaks the immerssion a bit... but I figured it was an apt reminder of the achievement named for this section of the game xP

I know that sounds weird but at the end I was almost hoping that Gordon gets a bit of karma for flipping the Gargantua off by having one move into frame, loming over him, followed by a nice sight of the alien stomping onto Gorden.

Ross Scott’s work is what has inspired me to try my own series, Half Reality. Something really gets be going seeing a character going through as much as Gordon does in a realistic fashion.

I'm dying to know how this was created
This was made with normal Black Mesa footage, but I removed the view model and HUD. Then I animated some arms in SFM, and green screened them on top of the footage. It only took about a week to make :)
That makes sense! Part of me figured the arms were composited, but they catch lighting seemingly perfectly, and the footage seems to even have some head bobbing. This is insanely impressive overall

I’m pretty sure you’re the only one to notice and appreciate how the arms caught the light… Xen maps are very difficult to get working in SFM, and at the time I did not know how to go about getting them to work. The lights on the arms are the result of making the HEV character run past lights in a pitch black map. It was quite difficult to get the angle and speed right haha
How do you set it up so that a map plays a game event like this in sfm? I cant seem to figure it out
Funny story, this video is actually 100% gameplay. I just used console commands to remove the arms, and green screened some new ones in post processing.

Unfortunately, because the Crowbar Collective modified the source engine, the Xen maps are too advanced for SFM to run. But most of the earthbound maps are still portable.
