I feel like if they can find one suitable partner for Laporte in CD then 90% problems will be solved. Because Laporte can push forward and that will give the mid-filed more options to spread out. We saw how presence of Laporte make a big difference in the first half against Madrid. Both Otamendi and Stones are very horrible defenders (mostly lack of intelligence). They can give away the ball or foul someone in very dangerous areas. Also they are more traditional defender in compare to Pep's style. If Pep can manage to get Umtiti from barca, that will be great.

It's funny, how Man City's situation then mirrors Liverpool's situation now.
Both were League Champions defending a title.
Both lost 2 centre halves they relied on. Laporte and Kompany for Man City, Van Dijk and Gomez for Liverpool.
As a result, both had to move a Defensive Midfielder (Fernandinho/Fabinho) into the Centre Half position to pair up with a third choice Centre Half (Otamendi/Matip).
It makes me wonder whether a comparison of the two would be interesting when the season ends given the similarities between 19/20 Man City and 20/21 Liverpool.

Not replacing Kompany was always a big gamble then it went from bad to worse. The loss of Sane had more impact than I thought.
Pep of course would want to address those issues; is if they have options in-house to promote or are able to purchase with FFP on them... plus there is the issue of the transfer ban to consider would they be able to attract top quality options if the ban is upheld?

As a City fan I was geared to take apart any weak observations or misplaced punditry. There will be none of that, because you're spot on.
There are 3 things I would like to add as factors, all of which have been negatives, even in those two brilliant seasons we had, and this one isn't written off yet, with one trophy already won and more still in offer.
The transfer policy at MCFC is a shambles given the age of key players. (You already mentioned Kompany) but it's more important that just what he gave as a player. Club captain, an incredible motivator verbally, but as a leader by example, there's few that could better him. In Vincent's incredible decade, I lose y count of vital games he changed in ways you only expect forward players to do. Whether it was scoring with his head at a vital time from a set play, an all or nothing list ditch tackle or block, calming things down at times to maintain tactical discipline or who will ever forget his response to thousands of City fans, when they collectively shouted DON'T SHOOT a split second before that shot, that ripped into Leicester City's goal, and essentially won us the Premier League by the end of it. It has to be added that he did ALL this in his City career, whilst suffering endless injuries throughout that time, but still can't back a better player.
As many a Sean Bean Meme would say.... One does not simply expect to replace Vincent Kompany, but it didn't even seem like the club were trying to.
The second and third parts are almost connected. Gabriel Jesus may well still turn out to be an amazing player, but whatever he strengths are, being a natural striker in not one of them. Of course he has he great moments, but game at game he seems built to play into Pep's managerial long career of disrespecting the position of striker. The natural striker like Aguero needs not look up sometimes between receiving the ball and it being in the back of the net. Even at silly angles sometimes. He instinctively knows where the goal is, where you get the sense that when Gabriel gets the ball in the box, he's looking to jink and move by dribbling. He doesn't have that sudden two touches impact. Deadly strikers take one touch to control the ball into them, and/or get it straight out of their feet to create a shooting angle, and then fire onto target, and often past the keeper. Sergio Aguero has been my hero at City, and as a striker he is feared and respected by any defender, except David Luiz (Sideshow Bob) who prefers assault to skill when playing against the master.
Despite his goal scoring being ALL the records at City, it must wonder anyone who's watched him play, just how many goals he could have scored, if he didn't seem to be our injured at least twice a season. He doesn't have that explosive pace to go past defenders into the box anymore, but then opposition defences tend to overload the middle, so he doesn't get much space in many games. He came back from the shut down looking heavy, slow, unfit and prone simply any knock or significant contact seemingly leading to instant injury. If Gabby Jesus had the danger or natural instinct of Kun, then I'd still be saying where was another striker this season? We are left with just one far too often and that still guarantee, Pep doing the thing I have always most disliked about his tactics, the False 9 position.
I can't remember a time ever in history, where not playing a striker from the beginning was an all out success. Then I remembered where he started it... Barcelona. Uhhhh hello, any team that contains a certain Mr. Lionel Messi can afford to miss a striker. When City's level is Aguero, putting him in that position (which was the tension between Pep and Sergio from day one) you're telling a player that his ability to glance up and have a Goalkeeper be picking to ball out of his net in s second, that that's all rubbish now. So he ends up with his back to goal trying to lay off or create in front of himself. With those sudden items turns surely being a factor to every niggling injury.
Here's the shocker though... Despite Sergio Aguero having another season to go, I'd either consider no further decline in performance, or the almost guaranteed injury lay off or two next season as is the norm.
Or we play on, in which case we must still have a player growing into the team and being ready after next summer.
Like Vincent Kompany's, one does not simply find a new Sergio Aguero, although I had high hopes for João Felix after he lit up Portugal domestically and internationally. Him choosing Atletico Madrid made absolutely no sense to me judging by the fact that just about every to club wanted to bid on him.
It's the vagueness in our so called '5yrs ahead in our transfer strategy that winds me up. As well as UEFA being their normal brick wall to City, I have to say I think the expenditure we are talking about for finding a new spine to our squad that's now overdue by at least one season, is being ploughed into the furnace of a money burning pit called the CFG.
MCFC responded and started winning things not long after our owners can't came to City, but if you look at the cash today must go through clubs like Melbourne, New York etc, their return has been awful. Does this deplete our war chest? It better not this summer, because we in deep kaka if we don't get a new and dominant strategy with SOME SECRECY for a change. Every time United throw a silly bid at s player that just doesn't seem to fit them, I know instantly they're doing it to bump up the price on that player, and make it an expensive time for City. if a player like Jadon Sancho went to the swamp I think I'd be done with football. City have never stood in Jadon's way or slagged him. He wanted away because he couldn't just walk into the first team when he wanted to, so City let him go. If he signed for United what an a-hole that would make him.
Just like last summer. It will be any transfer business which will the key factor in how we compete next season.

Tbh he didn't actually do much in the large scheme of things, players like Fuchs and Huth joined when Person was in charge and Steve Walshs scouting was the main reason we brought in players like Kante. When it came to tactics Ranieri said it himself, he kept Leicester playing the same way with hardly any changes, infact when Ranieri started to change things thats when we started to struggle. alot of Ranieri's signings were very unimpressive and wastes of money and he started playing players out of there best roles. I guess he felt teams would start to know how to beat Leicesters title winning system so he tried to change it but it just didnt work. That in mind he did win us the title and for that season he did more for us in one season then any other manager ever did and ill always love him for that, Nigel and O'Neill are other legends in my eyes as well.

Preferred foot in football doesn't get the needed attention..
Sane on the left and Sterling on the right ensure that when City attack through the middke through their advanced 8's... there is optimal occupation of key spaces in the final 3rd..
Aguero central, Sane Sterling stretching the opponents laterally, then Silva and KDB attack the half spaces... with Fernandinho covering defensively..
Excellent analysis. I am even more convinced that Sane must be convinced to stay while Foden gets more game time..
Either ways left footed players have to be targeted by City in the transfer window

That Rodri analysis is spot on and also he slows down the game too often and he does not go for diagonals even easy diagonals that could end up on goals or some creative moves just square passes even when there are moves building up. On the other hand KDB have to do some extra running on field when Rodri plays on that position compared to Fernandinho. And his sensing of positional awareness on field when opposition counter attack is horrible just eases on opponent and he always let go the attacking players that aggression like Fernandinho is missing Fernandinho knows how to break down the play. But still i think Rodri can improve he is not that bad but he needs to learn and adopt quickly if he wants to win some trophies with city. CB is the big and primary issue they need to find Right Footed world class partner for Laporte. If city defensive issues are sorted out then i think there is not much to worry about other positions and their goal ratio will be sorted out

Bruh, I always say that Mahrez does not fit in Manchester City’s style. I wasn’t able to explain why, I just felt it. This video really portrays the why’s. I loved the dynamic of the attack in the last 2 seasons, with Sane and Sterling in the wings taking advantage of their speed. Now, with Mahrez I feel there’s a lack of communication and many transit in the opposition central defense. I think that’s the reason why their shots out of the box are being blocked more often this season. Also, it has made the attack very predictable. The defense was a disaster this season, but mainly due to the injuries. We need a good left back like Walker tho, Mendy is not working. Hopefully next season gets better, and tbh I want Mahrez out of the team. He’s good, but I believe his attacking style has changed City’s creativity and danger.

I feel even more than Laporte missing through injury what cost City this season and started from the previous one is Pep putting Sane as the sub and Bernardo Silva and Mahrez as the starting player. Sane created width every single time , and that opened up the opponent eventually through repetition. He would always do the exact same move .but that meant he would succeed making it past defence almost every single game. From then on his next pass would be the classic Guardiola pass on the away post where a runner would tap it in.
I feel like this movement that Sane had ,alongside KDB always finding the space just outside the area to make the shot or put sterling and aguero in... This was the killer combo. And then ofc a fresh Fernandinho controlling the midfield tempo.

If Fernandinhos distribution angles were a problem in build up why didn’t they switch to a 3 at the back instead of having Rodri drop between the CB’s. Fernandinho in the middle, Otamendi on the right and Zinchenko as a LCB would solve that problem. (yes they played inverted for more options in passing at the back but they also had to be defensively capable).

maybe if city get a new super star young defender and play 4 4 2 with aguero and jesus infront infront and the LM sane and RM bernardo silva and a new midfielder to help kevin and bec david silva is mad old and play mendy LB with walker RB who will rarely push forward just to cover the CBs so we can win midfield battles and be dangerous at attacking and here where u can get the most out of rodri who is agressive and david silva with the spanish link and the great plays he used to do when sane was playing and if there is any injuries gundogan is perfect and phil foden is good too and u will also need fast consistant CBs like varane and let fernandinho play wherever. do u agree with me ?

The analysis is just perfect. I don't know how Pep didn't foresee this? Either his reading of the players he brought got wrong or the players didn't deliver. Anyways Rodri is not what he want. Someone like Pogba will do the job. And off course the empty stadium did the negative impact. Like United, they were never behind the team when they loose. (by the way I am a Man United fan, but i like Pep!)

Basically,Man City tactics just became Klopp's LVP tactics.crowd the center with front 3 and provide crosses but Citizens FBS are not TAA and Robertson.

    • @milesbudokai
      @milesbudokai 4 года назад +13

also the front 3 of City don't have the creativity that someone like Firmino provides, with Aguero and Mahrez especially all too often looking for their own shots (Sterling also guilty of this). Outside of Rodri City's mids are also not the defenders that LVP's are, so they can't rly shield the back 2 as well

No it's not. Really rough formation can be similar, but the detail is different.
First, in the build up phase. City tries to circulate ball more horizontally in order to progress ball while maintaining good position. However, Liverpool tend to play more vertical, like trying long balls.
Second, in the final third against low defense. This is the most different asides of City and Liverpool.
Man city always try to make space in the "Half space".
If you carefully watch in which part of the field do players try to penetrate(simply speaking, making runs without ball),
City's players almost always make run in the halfspace.
There goal is make time&space for the player who receives the ball in the deep halfspace.
(If you have time&space in the half space, it is way more beneficial than having one in the sides(flanks) because cutbacks or short ground crosses are more likely produce goals than high crosses.)
In contrast, liverpool gives freedom to the players in wing space more(to Alexander Arnold). Therefore, they usually uses high crosses, not cutbacks. It is more traditional way, that many team have done before.

    • @emmanuelstanley9153
      @emmanuelstanley9153 4 года назад +3

Not really their tactics vary crossing is guardiolas second choice lack of sane has reduced their versatility because sterling and mahrez always cut inside if you’ve noticed their cutbacks have reduced due to the lack of sane running to the barline

  • @najmussabir6051

So David Silva and Leroy Sane out of the club now and the next season will be disaster for City?
Bernardo Silva will take the place of David Silva and who will take the Sane's position?
    Sterling?
    And Mahrez to the right?
It's won't work i guess, all they need is a wide+speedy winger next season and a Deep Lying Player Maker or A Ball Playing Center Back.Fernandinho is so much older,Rodry isn't a good passes as well as he is not a good game reader.Pep will face so many problems next season, that's for sure.

Tactically ? I didn't see much flaws this season , a couple of things got wrong like Laporte pickin up an injury , Sterling was Outta confidence after his spat with Gomez , Playin Otamendi is a big problem too . Sometimes luck n player mistakes costs you. City's been playing the best football since past 3 years n got better with each season. Their Football is so crisp even I'm from Madrid n we gonna face them soon , still I like how the team approaches and their quality of football. this team's dynamic n their game plan isn't based on just 1 basic attack or defend rule like Klopp played cross game , Barca - possesion , Bayern - Zonal Marking , Real - Counter attack but indeed city's playing a football game that's hard to categorise. Winning UCL doesn't mean you were playin good , a lot of factors makes an important part . Hope we beat city

Rodri is a very good player, but I think it was Declan Rice who had to be recruited to use the tactics Pep wanted. Rodri is good at possessing than Rice, but Rice is good at cutting and forward pass skills. Indeed, as Rice himself has once said he refers to Fernandinho's play, his style of play seems very similar to Fernandinho. If he had come to Manchester City, I think he could have replaced Laporte better because of his physical abilities.

Sell gundogan (bring Arturo Vidal-pep loves him, Barca doesn't start him), Gabriel Jesus (definitely scores more than Gabriel.) Otamendi (bring Inigo martinez). Also, David Silva is done with city so get a new playmaker midfielder-maybe try luck with James Rodriguez.

  • @fadingghost729

One thing I noticed is that on occasions, City unnecessarily dropped deep into their box when defending leaving a huge space just in front of their defensive third. With none like Fernandinho to make a tactical foul, the opposition had enough opportunities to make a long range shot. And City actually did concede a lot of goals which was scored outside of the box which was aided by Ederson's poor positioning.
