    For those in the UK you can find similar acrylic terrariums online from thespidershop. I got one from them after trawling the internet for months. They don't market it to planty peeps so it was luck and using numerous search terms just to find them. I'm an arachnophobe so it was tough browsing the site. You'd still have to find a way to rig grow lights. I'm not paid to promote them but hope this helps.

    • @RogiervanVugt1
      @RogiervanVugt1 3 года назад +4

      You can give them regular orchid fertiliser but use half the dose or less and don't fertilise as often. Its not that these plants resent fertiliser. But in ordinary orchid substrate excessive salts are easier washed away during waterings. In the sphagnum you water differently and salts build up quickly. Another reason to repot and replace all moss at least once a year.

    • @plantwithroos

      I've been watering by pouring water on the side and letting the moss resoak from below, tho I have rotted a few plants after letting it dry too much and then water too much. sprayer would work I guess but its better for the plants not to have water in the center of it (where it grows from), as if that rots, the plant dies.

      Sorry you lost one of yours :-(. As a plant parent I know that feeling. It's a life long quest to grow the plant you want most to be the most perfect condition it can it! I just planted my jewel orchids yesterday. 100 percent sphagnum moss. But I have a question. How do you exactly use it as medium? It was really dry at first and just floating in the water. So I submerged it and got it all saturated. I was afraid it would be too wet for the plants so I squeezed some of the water out until there's no dripping. The moss feels heavy tho like a wet sponge. Is it supposed to feel airy? It didn't look quite like what the expert has in the jars. Thanks for your advice!!

      That's strange, have you tried putting the volume up a bit? I haven't heard anyone else mention this issue and it's an old video, that's why I'm confused!

    • @lilwigglesandleaves
      @lilwigglesandleaves 3 года назад

      @@plantwithroos Yes I did, I even put it on my big screen that has surround sound and turned it all the way up, that helped a bit but its the echo from him being in that building and his slight accent is why im having trouble hearing him and understanding what he is saying. I dont think its the video quality I think its just the situation and where he is, I think its just me personally, im just having issues hearing him. I should have explained what I meant a little better.

    • @plantwithroos
      @plantwithroos  Год назад +1

      Hmm I think it depends on the moss you use plus airflow and light? I'm using sterilised moss so that's dead and clean - negative of that is that it will never come back to life.

    • @deborahsykes1744
      @deborahsykes1744 Год назад

      Thank you for your reply, I also use sterilised moss, I don’t have very good airflow except when I take the lid off the fish bowl. I loved your field trip with Rogier he talks with passion, would love to see more around his work space with all plants, also where he keeps the jewel orchids. Thank you

    So when it comes to macodes, did he say they can grow well in soil? I have 1 that’s doing very well in soil. I have 2 new ones but they are in the process of transitioning from spaghnum moss to soil.. and one isn’t doing so well.
