It’s not just your hair type, but also how you like your hair to look and feel. I like mine to look FULL and Feel SMOOTH. But, if someone else had a similar hair texture and looked at and felt mine they might think it is too Fluffy, Dry and Rough because they like their hair to be Soft and Silky, and if I looked at and felt their hair, I might think it is Coated and too Soft and Greasy.
I am a 20 year old black woman with tightly coiled hair (not really your target audience haha) but I just gotta say, your hair videos are really good! You come off as very professional, someone who puts out quality content, and you always know what you're talking about when it comes to hair!
I've recently used Maui Shampoo/Conditioner with Hair Food damage recovery serum as the leave-in and I think this has been working so amazing on my hair. I suggest buying a shower hairbrush and using a co-wash before Shampooing and then using a hair mask before conditioning. Use the hairbrush before and after the co-wash and hair mask to help spread it all over. I use As I am Coconut CoWash and Garnier Whole Blends Honey Treasure hair mask which allows me to run my hands through my hair without tangles/knots. Apparently you're not supposed to use Garnier since it has a drying agent in it but the Honey Treasure line is one of the ones that's worked best for me. I've heard that Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Yogurt hair mask/hair products work well for many people too. I found out that hair masks help give back protein/essential vitamins that your hair gradually loses over time so it definitely helps. I also suggest always using a leave-in when you get out of the shower. I wish I knew these tips as a teen because my hair was an absolute frizz ball of a mess lol. These are just my suggestions though, definitely find a brand that works best for you. Hair Food, SheaMoisture, Maui, Hask, OGX, and Garnier Wholeblends Honey Treasure are some of the better brands that I've used and recommend. Whoever's reading this, good luck on your hair journey!
I've gotta to say, I was all in on formulate after watching you talk it up so much. I have thin wavy hair and have always had issues with itchy scalp. I filled out they survey got the product and generally really liked it. It made my hair great but made my hair super itchy. I immediately reached out to them to discuss the product. They suggested using it for a few weeks with no other products to make sure everything else was out of my hair. I followed their directions but was still crazy itchy. The itchy would almost immediately show up after my hair air dried but would go away after a day or two. I told them this and they suggested using more conditioner, making sure I got it in the roots (pretty sure you said not to do this in another video) and left it in for a few min. At the end of the day after about two months I told them I couldn't take it anymore. They said they would make a change to my formula but I had to buy it because it was over 30 days. That seemed really unfair to me since I was simply following their direction the whole time. So, they dragged it out looking enough that they didn't need to honor their guarantee. Pretty crappy company... I'm still searching for the right shampoo and conditioner. I've been doing experimenting. I think it's something in the conditioner they sent. If I just use the shampoo, it's still a little itchy but way way less. I've also tried using the conditioner with other shampoos and it's still crazy itchy.
I too had issues with formulate making my scalp itchy, glad it’s not just me. Ended up buying free and clear shampoo and that helped a lot, although it dries your hair, but no itchy scalp.
They cannot use the 30 day policy in you since u complaint before 30 days. You have a very strong case and can go to small case court and ask not only for money back but time spent. Not sure if it’s worth ur time, but the 30 days policy cannot apply to you.
The only shampoo and conditioner I can use regularly is The Body Shop Ginger shampoo and conditioner. It solved all my eczema and scalp issues within a few weeks and keeps my hair soft and clean for 4/5 days. I've noticed significantly less droppage from my hair as well which was really concerning me.
(For anyone knowledgeable enough) what do you recommend for someone: - With light brown hair to metallic gold (not blond)/light brown mix (uneven unfortunately, going to white/platinum in future). Semi-developed (developer), and later toned with Wella T10 Pale Blond. - Fine dry hair (becomes over-oily every 2+ days), oily scalp (within 1.5-2 days). What I use: - (Once weekly) Matrix Total Results So Silver (Dark) Purple Shampoo (apply for 10 minutes and rinse in barely-warm water). - (Once weekly) KeraColor Klenditioner Platinum (Bright Purple) Conditioner (apply for 10 minutes and rinse in cold water). - (Usually to clean/hydrate) Suave Tropical Coconut Nourishing Shampoo/V05 Island Coconut Nourishing Shampoo (apply for 1-2 minutes and rinse in barely-warm water). - (Usually after Suave/V05) L'oreal Elvive Color Vibrancy Protecting Shampoo (apply for 5 minutes and rinse in barely-warm water). - (Usually after L'oreal) L'oreal Elvive Color Vibrancy Protecting Conditioner/Hair Mask (if I have it, apply for 5 minutes and rinse in cold water). - (Usually after showering, if I have it) Palmer's Coconut Oil Formula Leave-In Conditioner (spray onto classic comb or Tangle Teezer brush, brush slowly, scent strong so I try to use less). My problems: - My hair isn't as bright as I want it to be (will lighten in future). - My scalp is itchy at irregular times (might switch from 1-3$ Suave/V05 to 5$ Palmer's Coconut Oil Formula Moisture Boost Shampoo, free of sulfates, most likely problem). - My hair has is split/frizzy (only when I don't use after-shower leave-in products, so need to daily use leave-in conditioner). - My hair becomes overly-oily after 2 days, and harder to comb through the heaviness (problems are hair falls out more often if I wash hair often, probably not use hair products with sulfates). - Front hair is thinning (will start using minoxidil, cheaper than Finasteride, I know its results are slow, but will try and be patient).
I'm not going to recommend anything specific simply because I don't even know where you live and what products do you have access to but I will point out some clues: -don't buy products based on your hair color unless it's dyed. All you need to know is the lighter the hair the more prone to sun light damage. -the reason your scalp is oily has nothing to do with your hair being fine. but it does genetically come in the package along with fine hair. if you already know you have fine hair just buy products for fine hair. It's really not that complicated. Fine hair absorbs more product like a sponge so you either want to apply light products or none at all personally I've fine hair and I don't use anything besides shampoo and sea salt spray. -like I said if your scalp is oily there could be an underlying issue like diet(mostly unbalanced omega6-3 ratio), over shampooing and irritants. -I'm not going to go over all of your products' ingredients but basically avoid parabens, solfites, artificial dyes, alcohol and fragrance AT ALL COST. These are simply bad ingredients regardless of context. -use a scalp scrub -you definitely use way too many products for fine hair -itchiness is not a genetic trait and is either caused by dandruff which itself is caused by other underlying issues OR irritants like in the 20 different products you use, environment or diet. -split/frizzy means you're damaging and drying your hair one way or another it's not genetic it's not supposed to be that way. -only shampoo your scalp not your hair and try to not get shampoo over your hair when you rince it out. -don't mix your shampoo in your hand before applying apply it in its original form and only on your scalp with a scalp scrub to massage and promote blood circulation. -Your hair itself NEVER needs shampoo because it mostly only comes in contact with sweat not sebum which is easily washed away with water. At most shampoo the very buttom of your hair very irregularly. -washing your hair has nothing to do with hair loss it just means you get to see them fall when you're washing them so it's an illusion. Your hair follicles are deep within your skin they mostly aren't affected by shampoo. I doubt even sulfate based products cause hair loss but ok. -minoxidil and finasteride do slightly different things and oral finasteride is much more effective in preventing hair loss than minoxidil. But if you want to bring some hair back to life oral finasteride can't do that where as minoxidil can. Plus use microneedleing before applying minoxidil which increases the effectiveness by ALOT. -bye

So Trav you have become my single most trusted guru of hair growth. Like my hero in many ways. The one topic that seems to always slip by is greying hair. I am 42. (I know. I look smashing) but I am getting grey and while it does not bother me, the grey hair is literally like course and on top of course it looks basically like springs on my normal smooth hair. Or it behaves like a cats wisker....pops straight out. Any theories or can you do a video marketed to guys with greying hair.
I buy a good shampoo at the Pharmacy. I m blond and I like camomile. And the conditioner I use is with minerals from the death sea. It s sulfate free. I make a hair mask from egg, honey and olive oil. I think if you understand your own hairtype ...its not that difficult to avoid the products that are not for you. I tried once little testers with rosemary and other different herbs. I think this is a luxuary that there are so many good products. I only buy a big bottle if I m really convinced. Before samples. I m a fan of phytotherapy ...therapy based on plants. Couldn t be better.
I have oily scalp and hair and have already tried many commercial shampoos but it doesn’t help me. I have medium length hair to long and it looks awful and dirty if I don’t wash it often (at least 3 times a week). Your advice seems good to me and I think I will try it. Thank you.
This video was extremely helpful. Although I’m not a guy I Iove ur channel! It’s so hard to find science based hair care advice so I can feel confident in following the info
I am so happy someone made a video for people with long hair I love this channel can you please make videos on how to dress when you have long hair. my hair is your length but its wavey please never stop making videos thank you
This is literally the best possible video you could have made on the topic. I wish there was similar content for other personal care items, like toothpaste.
My best example of something that works well for some people and not for others is coconut oil. So many people recommended I use it to moisturize my hair and skin that I decided to give it a try. End results - I ended up with a rash on my cheeks after having only used a tiny amount and it pretty much DESTROYED my hair. It had never been drier or frizzier. I had to rush out and buy a deep conditioning mask, which I then used over the next week. Thankfully this did help somewhat!
I would like to thank u for all these hair tips. It has helped me grow out my hair in only 5 months to the point where i can braid it into a small man bun.
I use Johnson's baby and s9metimes Head & Shoulders. I sometimes used Elvive in university, but my hair looked different (and not in a good way). I tried other hanspoos to play around with the PH, yet I know what works best for me
Hey Travis I’ll admit this is your first video I’ve ever seen but I’ll be watching more soon. I’m a collegiate athlete so i tend to have to wash my hair every single day and was wondering how/if that would impact my choices for hair care at all?
I tried formulate cuz of you. Didn't really work. Sure you'll pick out what you need but that doesnt mean they'll actually solve your specific hair concern. If you want something theyll just stuff in ingredients that are known to help it. Didnt help me, my issue is ultimately hair porosity related
Please help, I don't understand. Isn't the condition of your hair based on your scalp? Because my hair gets greasy every-day but my hair itself is dry, brittle but gets greasy quickly. Isn't that because of my greasy scalp? Let's say this isn't the case and talk about just in general, isn't your hairs' condition based on your scalp? Dry scalp = dry hair (although it can be dry from products) Greasy scalp = greasy hair So how do I follow the general rule of Shampoo = scalp Conditioner = hair
Why dry hair should not buy strengthening shampoo? What ingredient makes a shampoo strengthening so that I could avoid it if it's not on the label? Much appreciated, been binging on ur videos for the last couple of hours btw!
Shae moisture is not designed for fine hair textures, everything they have just weighs the hair down. It's great for hair that has too much volume and needs to be brought down. Maybe I just experience this because I have very fine hair (curls) but I don't color or treat it... it's all natural, so everything they have is just too heavy.
I also have finer wavy hair, I switched to sulfate free shampoo without extra oils in it. My hair is not as dry as before and has volume. Maybe you want to try it.
What if I had low-density and fine hair? What do you recommend the most? buy a protein shampoo or a volumizing shampoo, if there’s one that contains both, I would appreciate if you could recommend one to me.😁
5:56 I have oily scalp and I have flakes too. They're itchy and sometimes a little painful. I can just scratch them and take them out. It makes my scalp very itchy. My hair isn't that oily compared to my scalp but because of scratching the flakes it becomes dirty and sticky. I have to shampoo it and deeply clean it with conditioner. I'd really appreciate if you can help me. I have medium-long hair about an inch past my shoulders
If only a shampoo could cleanse the hair and scalp well without over drying it or damaging it, then we wouldn't have to use a conditioner. That's what ayurveda says (that pre or post conditioning products are meant for counteracting the harmful effects of western shampoo).
For dry scalp you stay away from sulfate but in your description where it says “shampoo for dry scalp” the name of the shampoo it says “sulfate” on it. Im confused.
Bro i have dry scalp and frizz hair so what should is use dry type or balanced shampoo and conditioner and also can we use different type of shampoo apart from conditioner
Trav if you're reading this, then please tell me how can I grow beard on my cheeks? I've beard on the downside of my face, below the chin but not much on cheeks. People tell about beard gels, oils. Do they even work? I only trust you because you explain these things with science and proved theories. So enlighten me master!!
Did you watch my how to grow more facial hair video? The best way is with a dermaroller 1-2x per week and minoxidil application daily (except on dermaroller days). But the video I posted was a minoxidil free routine
Don't mind me, I'm a girl and I'm looking up men's hair products because my boyfriend has 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner at my house and I death stare the thing every time I take a shower 😂 It smells good, but it's not necessarily good for your hair. I'm gonna replace it in secret 🤫
You can go for function of beauty instead, my friend who lives in France ordered her shampoo and conditioner and she told me they are amazing, the only thing is that their packaging are kinda girly with pastel colors but you can pick white or transparent if it bothers you
Hi im from kurdistan my all family are bald And i have beautiful hair do i be bald? Or how i can save my self from balding Before my hair is so thick but now is thinning 😔please help
thanks very much, but i don't understand one thing you say that if you have dry hair you need to pick something not strangthening the hair but the conditionair your suggest i guess are for that ... like this one > SheaMoisture Restorative Conditioner ... and i can't find the other ones on amazon.... please can you update the links ... thank you very much
i have no idea what too use,my hair is normal or whatever you should call it but a little thick🤷🏻♀️but kinda damaged (not too much) you can not see that it is damaged but when you feel it,it feels disgusting
Another great video. Thanks Travis! I'm currently at the end of my second week without using shampoo, I've switched it out for an Argan oil based co-wash once a fortnight, then just use a moisturising conditioner every 4th day..., so far, so good. My sebum production seems to be balancing out, and at the moment I have day 2 hair straight out of the shower..., less frizz (2b hair), uniform profile and less tangles! Happy days!
I have a hard time finding a good leave in because they all leave my hair with waxy residue and it never really fully absorbs into my hair at all. It just sits on top of my hair without doing anything and I end up with this horrible waxy feeling in my hair that just won't go away it's disgusting. Travis what should I do?
I have a dry flaky scalp and after 2-3 days it just turn oily and itchy I don’t know what to do I might buy the shea moisture shampoo is that a good option?
Hey ,I m one of ur new subscribers, I must tell you, you are the most trusted influencer on this platform , thankz man. By the way, I have a doubt, is it ok oiling the hair when you have a week's dirt and sweat accumulated on the scalp.?I would live to know your thoughts on this.
I put pomade into my hair everyday and wanted to know what I can do more to keep my hair to be healthy and stuff so if anybody has any tips it will be appreciated !
If I don't have curls, would getting a shampoo for curly hair help my hair curl more? I am a guy with straightish hair, but my hair sometimes starts to slightly curl in the front and it makes it look "messy" in a good way, so I'd like to get it to curl as much as possible
What kind of protein should I look for in the ingredient list. I think I found one that suits me and it supposedly had Hydrolysed Wheat Protein in it. Is that good or what is it?
Hi Trav, i hope you can help me... i have wavy hair and its pretty long but it's severely damaged by heat.. i'm still taming it with heat because i really don't wanna shave my head and start over, it's getting reaaally frizzy.. will a keratine treatment work or is there any other solution?
Hey Trav, I recently bought aveeno sulfate and paraben free shampoo but find my hair super frizzy afterwards. I usually use Pantene conditioner but I only wash/condition twice a week. Is it the hairdryer or should I switch shampoos? I can’t tell if it’s the shampoo drying out my scalp or if that’s how it naturally is
not a professional or trav but there's many different types of hair care, i have no clue if it's the shampoo sense i'm not well educated on it. make sure ur using heat protection when using heat because it could very well be the hairdryer, you could go further than that and reduce frizz by avoiding using towels on ur hair, instead use a t-shirt or something, pat drying can as well help. if the issue continues there are anti frizz products. this video gives great advice with finding the best shampoo for you and as long as you listen to what ur hair is telling you you'll be golden (i would also recommend using a hair mask, frizz comes from dry hair)
Living in Turkey sucks.I litteraly only can buy OGX products in my country. If I wanted to buy Shea Moisture for an example it's just too expensive due to being shopped from outside of my country :D
Hey look out on the ingredients. Chances are there are some local products that are similar to the brand from oversea, or combine local shampoo that lacks 1 ingredient & conditioner that have the lacking ingredient to give similar effect. Buying local is good for economy. Im saying this from experience, been using korean skincare last year and realise i can get similar products from local brand
In the skip days, you can use something name is CO-WASH. It's like the shampoo but more gentle on your hair. I actually use this routine. I heard others said that they use the conditioner as a co-wash by adding a water to make it lighter but i haven't tried this trick yet
It’s not just your hair type, but also how you like your hair to look and feel. I like mine to look FULL and Feel SMOOTH. But, if someone else had a similar hair texture and looked at and felt mine they might think it is too Fluffy, Dry and Rough because they like their hair to be Soft and Silky, and if I looked at and felt their hair, I might think it is Coated and too Soft and Greasy.
i know I am kinda off topic but does anyone know a good site to stream new series online?

It had never been drier or frizzier. I had to rush out and buy a deep conditioning mask, which I then used over the next week.
Thankfully this did help somewhat!
Hey I have oily scalp with fine and flat hair, i need a shampoo which will remove the oil as well as provide a good volume 🥺
A video on how to increase hair density and thickness
That’s genetic and you can’t do nothing about it
I would like to thank u for all these hair tips. It has helped me grow out my hair in only 5 months to the point where i can braid it into a small man bun.
oh no. what has he done
I use Johnson's baby and s9metimes Head & Shoulders.
I sometimes used Elvive in university, but my hair looked different (and not in a good way).
I tried other hanspoos to play around with the PH, yet I know what works best for me
I just noticed the artwork in the background of this video is the office building Pam did love it!!
Are you kidding me? I was searching for this on your channel this morning. 💙
Decision fatigue is so real …
Great videos!!
Hey, I know this is a really old video. But 1 of ur links took me to a shady website. Can you get rid of it? Thank you
I just wanna tell ya, Ur a Lifesaver man!!💛💯🥂
OMG thank you ! I've trying to find a video that actually gave useful information and this video did it ✨🙌
Video starts at around 4:09
Thank you angel
This guy is a blessing for me.
This is the kind of thing I've been looking for, thank you for giving so much information.
Hey Travis I’ll admit this is your first video I’ve ever seen but I’ll be watching more soon. I’m a collegiate athlete so i tend to have to wash my hair every single day and was wondering how/if that would impact my choices for hair care at all?
No shampoos or conditioners seem to be any good for my wavy hair.
Hair Bro is a True Bro
Thank you for the info!
How many people from the comment section have used formulate and liked it? I’m debating wether to try it or not
Thanks so much, I needed this for me and my family, so you see I couldn’t figure out what shampoo I should use
What do I use when my hair gets oily really fast but is also very dry after washing ?
Same.
Thanks for the links! Super helpful!
I tried formulate cuz of you. Didn't really work. Sure you'll pick out what you need but that doesnt mean they'll actually solve your specific hair concern. If you want something theyll just stuff in ingredients that are known to help it. Didnt help me, my issue is ultimately hair porosity related
You can tweak things until it’s right. It wasn’t right for me the first couple of times either
Thanks a lot man. I learned more from this video then online school
Dry scalp = dry hair (although it can be dry from products)
Greasy scalp = greasy hair
So how do I follow the general rule of Shampoo = scalp
Conditioner = hair
I really appreciate your content Mr Trav
Why dry hair should not buy strengthening shampoo? What ingredient makes a shampoo strengthening so that I could avoid it if it's not on the label? Much appreciated, been binging on ur videos for the last couple of hours btw!
Can I use greasy detox shampoo everyday or I need to mix it with normal shampoo?
Immediate subscribe, knocked it out of the park. New long hair over here, still navigating this process.
This guy is the messiah for hair
both shea moisture and tresemme have made my hair fall out. Anyone got recommendations?
Omg! I just clicked the video cause a guy is talking about hair. Nice video!
Cheers. Your vids have helped me out a lot since growing my hair. Decided to finally throw ya a like and a sub. Appreciate all the help, Trav.
it does in fact cleanse all of your hair
Hair is on point in this video
You have great hair guy! Thanks for the tips . Im hoping to have great hair like yours, some day
tomorrow ima buy new shampoo and conditioner! hope it works & you save my life!
That must have taken a lot of effort. Thanks for this video
@@TravWhiteStyle thanks for replying ❤️, I'll watch that.
I just brought the new hyaluronic acid one 2022 sounds good too.
I would love if Formula shiped to Denmark, I would love to try
Don't mind me, I'm a girl and I'm looking up men's hair products because my boyfriend has 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner at my house and I death stare the thing every time I take a shower 😂 It smells good, but it's not necessarily good for your hair. I'm gonna replace it in secret 🤫
🤐🤐🤐
Which is why I tell the Gents, look at your PDF, or tell them, it's what works for them! We are ALL different, just like our Hair!
It’s a shame formulate doesn’t ship outside the US yet..
You can go for function of beauty instead, my friend who lives in France ordered her shampoo and conditioner and she told me they are amazing, the only thing is that their packaging are kinda girly with pastel colors but you can pick white or transparent if it bothers you
@@Nutellix that’s awesome! Thank you!
@@WadeMacVicar You're welcome ! ^-^
Ye also we can do not use shampoo too but its better to user shampoo todays
😂 Your Bobby Bouchee reference is hilarious but so in point
Hi im from kurdistan my all family are bald
And i have beautiful hair do i be bald? Or how i can save my self from balding
Before my hair is so thick but now is thinning 😔please help
thanks very much, but i don't understand one thing you say that if you have dry hair you need to pick something not strangthening the hair but the conditionair your suggest i guess are for that ... like this one > SheaMoisture Restorative Conditioner ... and i can't find the other ones on amazon.... please can you update the links ...
thank you very much
😂 the Adam Sandler part was hilarious 🤣
In the dry scalp shampoos you linked Cantu had c14-16 sulfonate
moisturizing volumizing strengthening hydrating thickening
are you still rolling with Formalate? Im gonna try it, as Im gonna start growing my hair out as of today.
I have literally been trying to find out what you use so this was perfect, :D
cant wait to get a formulate shampoo right now after seeing this video inspired my long hair 😬
i have no idea what too use,my hair is normal or whatever you should call it but a little thick🤷🏻♀️but kinda damaged (not too much) you can not see that it is damaged but when you feel it,it feels disgusting
It’s just hair
Water will do once or maybe 2 times a week
Really love your videos, I think you do great work here!
I was really excited about the Formulated brand but they don't ship to Finland. Oh well, i'll keep waiting. 🤘🏻
My hair is oily. Can I use hair conditioner every day without shampoo?
Another great video. Thanks Travis!
I'm currently at the end of my second week without using shampoo, I've switched it out for an Argan oil based co-wash once a fortnight, then just use a moisturising conditioner every 4th day..., so far, so good. My sebum production seems to be balancing out, and at the moment I have day 2 hair straight out of the shower..., less frizz (2b hair), uniform profile and less tangles! Happy days!
Glad you found what works!
My hair is thin and wavy. Which shampoo should I use?
I have a hard time finding a good leave in because they all leave my hair with waxy residue and it never really fully absorbs into my hair at all. It just sits on top of my hair without doing anything and I end up with this horrible waxy feeling in my hair that just won't go away it's disgusting. Travis what should I do?
Sounds like your hair is low porosity. Try using silicone free products and use light weight oils instead, like grapeseed or sweet almond
Also, a spray leave in conditioner might work well for you. They’re much lighter. I use them on my non wash days.
@@supernova11711 Tried that didn't work still leaves me with a lot of buildup right after.
I have a dry flaky scalp and after 2-3 days it just turn oily and itchy I don’t know what to do I might buy the shea moisture shampoo is that a good option?
I use all-natural plant-based shampoo and conditioner.
Thanks for the video. I always lathered up like crazy, Now I know.
I put pomade into my hair everyday and wanted to know what I can do more to keep my hair to be healthy and stuff so if anybody has any tips it will be appreciated !
Is Formulate a subscription service? Or is it just like a buy it when you need it type of deal.
They send out a new one every 3-4 months I think, but you can control delivery dates in the app
If I don't have curls, would getting a shampoo for curly hair help my hair curl more? I am a guy with straightish hair, but my hair sometimes starts to slightly curl in the front and it makes it look "messy" in a good way, so I'd like to get it to curl as much as possible
thank you so much, this helped a lot!! *gives hug*
So when you don’t wash your hair for 4-6 days with shampoo what do you do? Just rinse with water or do you use conditioner on those days?
no
dont
In the skip days, you can use something name is CO-WASH. It's like the shampoo but more gentle on your hair. I actually use this routine. I heard others said that they use the conditioner as a co-wash by adding a water to make it lighter but i haven't tried this trick yet
thank you for these tips, definitely will be helpful. worth the sub
