I am Thankful to Earl Hamner for writing his life into The Waltons. And picking a perfect and loving cast. In all of my life I have never seen such a perfect match in television.
I still cry the most every time I watch this episode even though it is over 42 years ago now when it first aired. I think of my Mom and Family Members no longer with us every time I watch the Waltons which was also her favourite TV show she still watched in reruns right up to the last weeks she was with us.

God bless all the cast who made me feel like part of their family. 💗
one of the most most astonishing decisions, I have seen in a television series, was the decision to honor the actress and the character, by bringing Corby back and allowing this stroke and rehabilitation to remain a storyline. It is virtually unprecedented to show infirmity and disability as a normal part of family life. And it was an expensive decision. They kept her on contract and shot her scenes over and over and over again, as often as needed to get those words audible and give her the time to do it right despite the frustration and increased cost to keep the cameras rolling and pay those wages of everyone on set. Well worth every dime, but not many producers would have signed on to this, when writing her out was the obvious and easiest answer.
@@colductsbubba4673 On the other hand, Judy Norton Tayler noted that Ellen provided incredible inspiration to the younger actors. I paraphrase here. I've only started watching "The Waltons" this year. I never watched a single episode in the 1970's. I was so heartbroken when Grandpa passed away. I couldn't believe how much that show touched my heart.
Daddy, this reminds me so much of you. I remember, the day we lost you it was like a bad dream. You're gone, almost ten years and it still feels like a bad dream. Somehow, I keep looking for you to come around the corner and I will wake up. I guess, God needed you, to come home. Know, my precious Angel, you will NEVER be forgotten. You, were not only my Dad but my best friend. I would, give anything to hear your voice again, or to touch your precious face. I miss, you Daddy, and will never be the same until we are together again. RIP Daddy, I love you.

All the positive comments are appreciated! - I posted this in January 2018 and in early May for my birthday I went with my father to see my Grandparents in illinois. My Grandpa was starting to not feel good at that point so I didn’t get to see him more then once. He slept most of the time. By June 19th we knew he was going to die it was just a matter of when. Early morning of June 24th my father called me and said he was on his way from Ohio to Illinois but he did not make it on time. That afternoon I got a call from him saying my Grandpa had died. He didn’t get to say goodbye to his dad and that, on top of my Grandpa’s passing, had me inconsolable. 💔 Everytime I watch Ester talks at the end of this scene I ball my eyed out. My Grandpa loved to sing Bluegrass and play guitar. We have hundreds of recordings of him singing. That is his legacy to us and how he will continue to live on in our family. Through his amazing voice.
