_It’s strange that the store didn’t have a comb manifold for cold water, because the assembly on the tees can crumble under vibration._
_Lauren, you are an endlessly resilient and intelligent woman, I think it is the ups and downs of your adventures, equipment repairs and boat rigging that attract men.🤞_

And none in South Florida too. If the Cat 5 comes - run to South Carolina. I get supplies online cheaper and faster than any boat yard. And i pay much less. Because of the way Lauren assembled the replacement manifold without pressure testing before mounting, I feel that it is a potential nest of scorpions waiting to bite her in the not-too-distant future. Also the valve on the water-maker line is not mounted or secured and is another worry. I think the plumbing and electrics on the boat need a professional refurbishment. How she keeps her calm in all this is astonishing!

i already knew that i will be leaking when i saw it, just because of the number of connections...also you can make some mistakes with teflon tape. better would be one square block of metal with the right number of connections/holes for the fittings...this would remove at least 10 points where it could leak ...alternatively (and maybe cheaper would just be t-fittings connected with tubes which are secured with hose clamps)

As much as I like manifolds, at least to reduce through-hull count, you've got a huge potential leakage problem with all those threaded connections (9:53). NPT threads have to seal mostly by hard seating of the threads against each other, causing very slight deformation of the threads. (But not too hard, as that just stretches out the female fitting). Plastic is supposed to work the same way but you can't tighten them up as much. Pipe compound and/or petro-tape just helps with the slight imperfections of fresh machined threads, or worse imperfections of previously-used threads, but the main sealing mechanism is thread against thread. So slapping a whole bunch of extra compound into or onto the fitting doesn't help.
All the fittings have to be torqued up just the right amount, but still wind up facing the correct way. It takes a lot of skill and luck to get all the fittings in a bunch like that to seal properly, and have them all face the correct way, especially when using short nipples like that. Longer nipples allow much more control over make-up torque, because you have room and a machined hex face to put a hex or crescent wrench onto the middle of the nipple to control the torque and orientation of the next fitting.
IMHO you'll be lucky if you don't have to fight leaks in that new manifold as long as you own the boat. Better would be a one-piece bronze manifold with the general shape of the previous, defective brass one - but at least you're using bronze this time. Also when using hose clamps, the convention is to always cut the hose off square, and use two clamps at each connection, each facing the opposite way. Some material cannot even use conventional hose clamps, like PEX. Not sure what that white tube is, but it looks suspicious.
EDIT: = Another way of doing the manifold is to just bronze-weld or braze all the pieces together after they have been screwed together in the correct orientation. Take it all apart, clean it off really well, replace any plastic with equivalent bronze fittings, reassemble dry, then have a competent welding shop TIG -braze all the threaded joints using aluminum bronze filler rod. (Acetylene/oxy should work for brazing too. Depends on the personal choice of the welder.)
Finally, a stronger, solid fitting of compatible metal that screwed that manifold to the wall would be much better than small-gauge zip ties. Large-gauge copper tube clamps using bronze screws might work.

As someone who has quite a bit of experience with ad hoc plumbing builds, I couldn't agree more with the above. Even with experience, I'm likely to find 1 out of 4 or so fittings to leak without further adjustments (tightening). I literally cringed when you began all the work of reassembling because I already knew the inevitable result -- not a judgement just empathy for the additional work of undoing/redoing that I knew was all but certain. I would also recommend pressure testing the unit before reinstall. You'll have to plug all the inlet/outlets but the one allowing the pressure in, but I have to believe that extra work is far easier than working in those tight confines to pressure test it in "final" form. Best of luck and remember that every misstep is wisdom in the bag.

Does the diesel require there to be back pressure on the exhaust? I ask because I don't really understand why they combine the hot water return from the saltwater exchange into the exhaust separating those pipes would prevent blow back or back pressure where the salt water could get in the oil system. Since that is the problem it seems more like a design issue of the exhaust system... Complete isolation between coolant and oil systems. Just curious my marine experience is U.S. Navy and I wasn't a boiler tech or sfbo so that doesn't relate to diesel well. But the auto mechanics does seem to apply a bit. In auto mechanics we would try and remove anything that created back pressure on the exhaust because it could kill the engine if it was running, lowers horsepower, and reduces engine efficiency, though it also makes it louder typically. That would also be an idea for a video.

Atleast the will be easy to change out later but you should have several spares on hand because they get brittle and break easily. Definitely good ingenuity there but I've just learned my lesson on things like that. They make the grey/black colored ones but they're harder to find the right sizes but definitely use those next time. I so wanna just give you my number and say CALL ME! The water system seems complicated, is that normal?

Watermakers aren't always the easiest to fit into sailboats! It's pretty simple, just parts scattered

All the drama with your muffler seems kinda strange. I installed a 60hp Isuzu diesel in my yacht and there is no muffler as such. There is a plastic box right before the thru hull just above the waterline at the stern near the centre of the boat.
The box mixes the exhaust gas and raw water giving the same effect as a muffler. The box is a fraction the size of your muffler was available off the shelf and took about ten minutes to install. A hose takes exhaust and raw water from the heat exchanger to the stern then up to deck level and then down to the mixer and out. The loop up top deck level stops sea water from a wave running back in to the engine.

Between your cool content, and your Hollywood looks, the growth of your viewership will only accelerate. That being said, It's inevitable that more than a few trolls, and haters with some pretty s#!tty comments will be mixed in with the ones who want to see you do well, and I've seen a number of RUclipsrs get really frustrated, and even stop posting because it got under their skin. I would just like to encourage you to dismiss that stuff out of hand.l because even the most popular actors, artists, and other public personalities have the same thing to deal with. The big difference is that they have a pair staff to sift through all the comments they get, and pass along only the most relevant comments, and of course we never hear about all the hate mail they get, but they do get it, it's just part of putting yourself on display and going high profile, and the haters have no worth. It may rattle some people when they get those comments, but remember, they are only trying to get under your skin, and get a reaction from you. You don't owe them that reaction. For that matter you don't owe them anything.
Always looking forward to your next video,
    Fair winds

@@laurenlanders It will still be couple years while I get my act together so I can sail to the Caribbean myself. Maybe I'll see you out there some time.
BTW, Which class license do you have? I'm planning to take a couple years to get at least my 6 pack or a 25 ton ticket, and then step it up as I get to it from there. Then I will see if I can get a business going out of Grenada. I could use all the advice I can get.

Whose apartment is that your staying at. Pex pipe would of been easier quicker color coded blue red. Also ...just saying if all.pipes look like that replace them when your hauled out replace ALL thru hull fittings and pipes. How much water does all your tanks hold. Keep instructions you will have to clean filters and replace charcoal

That’s a poor manifold. It looks like someone did copy a house hold way of piping. Your fix is a bit better as the brass is thicker. Use some clear coat to preserve the brass. But you probably have to improve that manifold one day as it leaks.
Well done on the jobs .
