Gary, we sure will miss the hands on instructions(in person) but we will enjoy the instructions on the printer and what ever you wish to share. Most of all we wish you the very best on your surgery and fast and complete recovery. Keep us uptodate so we’ll know exactly what to pray for.
Thank you very much Claude. Surgery went good and my foot feels not bad this morning. All prayers are welcome. With me the patients to wait and make use of my time till I can get back to the lathe. Gary
Hi Gary. Great video on the jig. I have used a similar one but will be making yours. Best wishes on healing. I really look forward to your videos on using Segment Pro. I have the software and look forward to all the shortcuts that you have figured out. Heal quickly.
Thank you very much Van. I hope I will be able to show the easy parts of the software. I will start out with something very basic. Thanks my friend, Gary
Get well, my friend. Personally.... Seeing more 3D printing applications for Woodturning would be the "jam on my biscuit"!! Bring it on!! I just helped our school woodshop guy turn a replacement spinner handle for the table saw. I made 2 PLA bushings with 7mm bore. Printed a ⅜" OD on the inner shoulder and a ½" OD on the outer shoulder. Used 100% infill to fight the compression and heat from friction. We used a standard 7mm pen turning mandrel to do the turning and the finishing. Our Sawstop now has a stabilized walnut handle with 10 coats of WaterLox... Almost student proof!! Get well, Gary
Thank you very much Dave! You have given me some wonderful ideas for 3D printing. I have some missing handles and things. And I sure do love the 3D printer. I remember when the pattern shop I worked at first got into rapid proto type they got an LOM machinel Hired a young engineer(not mechanical) to set things up. I ended up designing the first part made on it. A working crescent wrench. Just so they could try it out. Did a bunch of other parts as well. They went on to get 3D printers and not sure what they have down there now. I had nothing to do with those printers though. I preferred building patterns from drawings. But as you know I do love the technical stuff as well. Thanks my friend, Gary
Wow Gary. I didn't know of your injury until yesterday. Hope all is well now. I some how missed this video when you posted it. I have learnt so much from what you do and how you explain the process of making and turning. I will be going out to my shop and making the segment stop so that I can use it on both my saws. I have a Guild meeting in January and will show the members the stop and give you the credit for the design. I'll also tell them to follow and subscribe to you because you are an excellent teacher. Merry Christmas and stay well.
Thanks so much John. Well it has been a year since I had the ankle issue. It was sure hard going while I waited to be able to put weight on it. Lots of PT and all iss well today. Thanks for your kind words and for sharing my channel with the members of your Guild. Merry Christmas to you as well, Gary
Hi Gary! I hope your surgery went well. I look forward to your videos you are a great turner and also a great instructor. Your instructional videos over the next several weeks will welcomed.
Gary, I wish you well in your recovery. Your detailed, step-by-step tutorials are much appreciated. I have learned so much from your down to earth approach and easy to understand instructions, whether it is building jigs or creating a new turning. I love doing segmented work and have used your designs and concepts for a number of bowls. I also use Segmented Pro (from the Woodturner Pro folks) for creating many of the bowls and vessels I have made. I have also made a stop jig for sawing segments, but I love your design and can't wait to make it myself. Take care and hope you get back into the shop soon.
Thank you very much Bruce. I bought the whole package from WTP so have access to all of them. Segment Pro is a great program but I like the freedom that WTP gives me. I can make more changes for different things. Mostly being able to mix ring thickness. Happy you enjoy my videos and will be back to turning soon. Hoping no more than a month but will listen to the doctor. Thanks for our wishes on the recovery. Gary
Aww bummer!!! Really going to miss you !! 🙏 Glad you have family close. I hope the Lord speeds your healing and that you don’t drive your wife crazy getting back on your feet. Happy New Year!
Thank you very much Barry. When I woke up this morning it felt like the Lord helped me out. Hardly any pain. My wife is a trooper for sure. I have system where I go from my computer chair to a roller around thing with 6 wheels. If I want to got the the family room a walker helps me down the one step. Happy New Year to you as well. Gary
Hi sorry to hear of your fall🙁, the exciting thing about your upcoming videos will be that, each one will be a week closer to your recovery, all the best 👍🐝🌞
Thank you Douglas. I had the surgery Thursday so it was the day before I posted this video, Wanted to keep my Friday slot open LOL Surgery went great and today I am feeling not so bad. Thank you very much for your concerns, Gary
I feel your pain at the beginning of August had to have neck surgery so couldn’t turn for about 12 weeks, just do what the Drs tell you and be as active as you can. Really enjoy all you put out, thank you for sharing
Thank you very much Jim. Ouch must have been hard not turning your neck. Hope all is well now. For sure I will listen to the doctor on this one. Thanks again, Gary
I've just replied to your email from last week, Gary. Then, I got a text from Tuffy telling me he saw your video this morning and your explanation. I will watch the whole video but as you might imagine, I skipped right to your explanation, first thing. I'm glad you've had the surgery and got that part over with. Now the healing begins. Sounds like it is going to take awhile and be painful. For that, I'm truly sorry. I will be praying for you, my friend. As everyone is saying, just take your time to get it right, we'll be here each week for whatever you have to share. Best wishes, buddy. Phil
Thank you very much Phil, You know that old saying: We do not bounce like we used to! It is true so true. I have bounced many times over the years without breaking a bone. Except for one that I try and forget. For sure I will take my time. My nurse(Laverna is finally resting...she has worked very hard taking care of me. This will drive me crazy not being able to turn. But I do like designing on the computer. Thanks for your prayers my friend they mean a lot to me. The block is slowly wearing off and will have to take the pain pills which I hate. But need Gary
Gary All I can say my friend is get well soon as that is the most important thing, your health. That was a great wee video ans very well explained, take care and hope that good Lady of yours looks after you LOL
Thank you Alan and happy you liked this video. Yes I have a good one. She has put up with me for over 51. Has been a real angle with this event along with other minor things I have gone through. She is resting as not gotten anymore sleep than I have in the last week. Lucky to sleep past 2am. Hopefully that will improve soon. Need to time the pain pills better. Garu\y
Yes that is a fact. I think last year I would have bounced up and kept on going LOL It was the twist that did it in. Happy you liked the segment stop! Gary
Thank you very much Chris your prayers are welcome and I feel them all. For sure there will be some software videos coming. As you know I do love my software. Thanks again, Gary
Age???? I beg your pardon. Opps just looked at my idea picture does not match LOL I will need PT on my shoulder again as I lost a lot just using it to help get vertical. I will do those exercise as I wait. I can do most sitting down. Thanks for your comment, Gary
@@ThePapa1947 We each have 2 ages. One is the number of times that the calendar has turned over. That one isn't all that important. Use it for getting discounts and things. The important age is the one that reflects how we feel. I don't feel like I'm 73 and I enjoy life as a younger fellow.
Wow, that is tough. I know you will miss doing the turnings and all of your followers will miss your turnings. I hope your healing goes well. I will keep watching even though I do not do woodturning because I always find that you have information on how to do things that helps with the simple stuff that I do. Besides that, I just get a kick out of your videos. Good luck.
Sorry to hear that your New Year is starting off on a painful note Blessings to you and your wife and sit back and heal and don't rush it we will be watching for you to start turning again may God give you strength and comfort as you heal
Oh well, life happens. Doesn't matter what you post online, just get yourself better. But I will definitely watch your posts. I may have to make me another segment cutting jig. Get well soon!!
Thanks so much Harry. I am hoping what I will do will be helpful for many. I know just making them will help me. Thanks so much for your comments. Gary
Gary, Firstly, get yourself taken care of! I wish you a speedy recovery so that you’re able to enjoy what you do so well! Secondly, your videos continue to educate us and improve our skills. I’m anticipating the Woodturner Pro and TinkerCad videos. I applaud your dedication completing this video and look forward to building this tool.
Thank you very much Skip. Doing the up coming video will help me as much as anyone. Really looking forward to showing you some magic in TinkerCad. Well it will look like it. I wanted so bad to be where I could open and close the fixture but it just did not work here. No easy way to setup the camera. Thank you so much. Gary
Thank you Danny. The leg does not hurt any more even though there is a fracture. But it is stable now because of pinning the ankle. Well we are still laughing and that helps. Thanks for your prayers/ Gary
Thanks Tom. I will have to talk to the doctor but it would have to be sitting. At least for 6 weeks. I need to wear this splint they put on then i can get back to the boot. Thanks, Gary
Love what you do,except for falling. I replaced a knee in Oct 2022 and it is great. Work your PT, ice and anti inflammatories are your friends. See ya around!
So sorry for your injury Gary. Don’t rush to get back. I still have loads of your videos I’ve not watched yet! Keep safe. Your videos are an inspiration.
Thank you very much and I will do my best to follow orders. But these doctors orders I will for sure. Thanks for your comments and thanks for watching, Gary
Thanks so much Jeff. I will take my time and pretty sure she has locked the door to my shop LOL See you on some design videos I hope. Thanks again, Gary
Thank you Wynand. It is healing. Slower than I would like but I have realize that and the time will pass. I will be doing other non turning things though. Thank you very much, Gary
I’ve gotten way behind on watching your videos Gary, I sure hope your surgery went well. I am sending prayers healing and good results with pt when you get to that point. I look forward to the videos you’re able to put out. Best of luck to you sir.
Gary, I’ll watch whatever you put out. Your how to videos always fascinate me. Take it cool for a bit though and get the healing under way. Going out with a bang in 23 has to mean 2024 will be great!! Get better and all the best in the new year 🎉. Cheers, Rick
Thank you Rick. My wife has been amazing. I am in my computer/guitar room in front of the computer. Foot still has a block and not hurting. Cat came in and jumped up on the cat bed. When do reading comments I plan on grabbing my little Steinberger 🎸 and put the head phones on a play bit. Gary
@@ThePapa1947 now that sounds like a great recovery program!! Playing songs or just noodling is one of my favourite ways to relax and chill out. So glad you have a partner who is able and willing to help in circumstances like this. A big hats off to her!!
Gary, bummer! I know you will recover well and be back at it before long! Certainly enjoyed and learned from this video and look forward to your upcoming ones. Stay safe and be well!
Thank you so much. It is a matter of time and me staying off that foot. The wife and I have worked as a team to get me up to use the walker and then a rolling chair. I look forward to showing some simple designs. Gary
Thanks so much Lee. If only I would have bounced when I landed LOL. Surgery was a week ago and I think it is feeling better. I have a TinkerCad video lined up to show. Maybe after I do the WoodTurnerPro one. Thanks, Gary
Hope you soon recover Gary, that is a cool segment stop mate ...great job . I'll catch up with you in the spring as I have a lot of hospital appointments coming up starting in a few days time Take care mate and no bouncing around for a while , Bram
Thank you Jim. It will take awhile. The worst part is not being able to do most things myself. But slowly I am able to roll around the house on a 6 wheeled chair thing. Thanks! Gary
Gary. This jig is another much needed addition to my shop. I work from a wheelchair much of the time and only stand for short intervals so I really appreciate these time saving jigs. Good luck with the surgery and rehab.
Thank you Dave. Sounds like you are making the best you can do. That is a good thing. I do have a few other fixtures to make. Thanks that have been around for other uses but will help us wood turners a lot. I have them but not gone into detail. My lathe is too high use sitting down. Maybe time for a mini lathe...hmm I will wait the 6 weeks. Surgery was yesterday. With the blocker no pain at all. But I feel it wearing off. Gary
Yup! A broom is an essential tool for us old folk. I sweep the floor before and after I work. Please take it easy and get well. Blessings from South Africa.
Hi Gary, I just watched the video for about the third time and managed to catch some of the key words that you said (i guess im a little slow in the hearing department) and found the miter slot parts of which you spoke. For about $20.00 I got 2 sets of parts. Thanks, now I've got another project after I finish my saw mill sled for ripping logs into planks. Your jig that you did for cutting your wafers is my foundation for this project. I will post pictures on Facebook when done. Thanks for your investment of time for making these videos and hope that leg is healing well.
Thanks Tim. Sounds like the same ones I got. And sounds like you are stocking up on sleds. Can never have enough 🤪 Seeing the doctor this week. Hopefully I can start putting weight on it. Gary
@@ThePapa1947 well, this sled I'm working on is my first for this bandsaw. I bought a Rikon 14" about 6 month ago and have been having health issues. Had a nice vacation in the Kaiser Hilton which gave me time to think through some of the fine points. Now to start making notes.
@ThePapa1947 well, I do have some health, but this time I think that it was some wood that I turned that had some bad mold causing me to have some resperatory issues. May be that could be a video by you, if knowledgeable in that area. I think Gord Rock may be , however he has cancer and is having problems with his chemotherapy.
Praying that you heal up quickly. Found your channel about a week ago. You do beautiful work. I have all the jig videos tagged so I can go back and make the jigs. Looking forward to attempting some of the projects that you have done. Blessings
Thank you Gary. It is 1 week after the surgery and this morning it feels better. But the pain comes and goes. I like the way it feels right now. Thank you very much , Gary
Gary. That is part of life, and we don't bounce like we used to. I have been down this road with shoulder surgery. The worst part is not being able to work in the shop. The rehab is second worst part. I'm sure you will design many wonderful projects to build as soon as you are well. We will all be here with you and learning from your teaching. We might even get to build one of your projects before you do. We will be praying for a complete and quick recovery. I have learned so much from your video's. This was my new year project to design a new stop for my segmented turning. Now you have done it for me. I just have to go build it. Can't wait to see what is next.
Thank you Barry. Not much spring in my bounce for sure. I did not do bad crawling to get to the door though. I think you will find this one easy to do. My thought was a screw so you could count the turns. Way to slow for me. Most of this is based on the smaller milling machine I recently sold. There were two stops. You set one at the begining of the cut and cranked till the touched. This method goes back hundreds years. So it is just like the bed and the ways on a milling machine if you think about. Gary
I hope the surgery went well and the recovery is quick and as painless as possible. If they give you PT, make sure you do it, it makes a huge difference.
Thank you Nicky. Surgery went very well. I felt nothing since yesterday at around 3PM right before they did it. They did a block above the ankle. Just begining to feel it so I have taken the meds. I am sure they will do the PT. Thanks again, Gary
I wish you a speedy recovery and I look forward to your return. I am sure I will enjoy your presentations on design in the meantime. Best of luck with the surgery.
Well, 2023 can just die, already. I'm sorry about your injury, Gary. I'm planning to email you & Gord, soon. Maybe that'll keep your mind in the game, but, as you said, you'll find some way to stay involved. Best wishes on surgery & recovery. Really impressed with the precision of your jig, as well.
Gary, I hope this finds you on the road to recovery! I’ve been there; for me it was shoulder surgery. Physical therapy is what helped the most after surgery. They call PT Physical Therapy, I called it Paid Torture. But it was worth it in the end. I don’t have a 3D printer, yet. Maybe your videos will push me over the edge to getting one. Speedy recovery and thank you for your videos. I never miss one!
Thanks Ken. I just got done with PT for shoulder. Now it will need it again because that arm helps me to get on my good foot so I can sit on a roll around the house. I recall some song about This Bone is Connected to That Bone. Or something like that. This can be done with strips of wood or HDPE but I love my 3D printer and can not wait to show some videos on lathe accessories I plan on making. Thanks again, Gary
Gary, I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune but I'm glad you're ok! I enjoy the videos you make regardless of whether they're about turning or not. I am not a patient jig maker. I am always in a hurry to make what I'm making that creating a jig to make that thing is an unwanted delay but they do come in handy. One of the things I noticed in this video is that it looks like you modified your table saw insert to make it a zero clearance one. That might need further explaining. :) Anyway, please take care of YOURSELF and don't worry about your followers! We'll be here! Hopefully, you will still have a happy new year!! Just no dancing at midnight on New Year's Eve! Rick
Thank you Rick. And thanks for your best wishes. So that jig has a 45 degree ramp added to allow the pieces to slide away from the blade. Works good but like with all spinning things you want to keep an eye on them building up. I love making jigs and plan them out on paper of my CAD program most of the time. I love doing that as well. When you make the jig every this is clear it it is a matter of cutting the pieces out. Gary
Great video on the jig Gary. I will keep this in mind when I get the table saw. Not good news on your injuries from the accident. Being stuck with your leg elevated all day is no fun, I have been down that road a few times myself. I wish for you a fast and full recovery. Regards Jon
Thank you Jon. Even though we make round things on the lathe a table saw sure can help in the process if you do segment turning as well. Hoping it goes on the schedule the doctor gave me. But only time will tell. Thanks, Gary
Gary. Thanks for all of your time you spend sharing your talent. It is gratefully appreciated Your jig is a great addition to any shop, and it is very well explained. Take care and see you very soon
Gary, Thank you for the segment jig video. Hope you heal fast and well. The videos on segmenter pro would be a great help to me for sure, as I am struggling with design and computers. You make some incredible projects and Ì hope you are back at the lathe before you get bored (probably won't happen) will be looking for your next video on Friday. Take care and Thank you. Glenn
Thanks so much Glenn. Just sitting around gets me bored. So designing anything keeps me thinking. Plus there is a 3D printer behind me and I do have ideas to use that in a few videos. Gary
Gary, I’m sorry to hear about your accident, those are rough injuries. Waiting on torn achilles surgery myself. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Looking forward to your ‘in rehab’ videos. Learning from I best clean my shop up a bit.
Thank you very much Ian. Seems like we all are banging ourselves up a bit. Crazy thing is I had cleaned that area up so I could get the dust bin out. Seems there was a small dowel there and I stepped on it. Crash bang boom I went. Thanks for your best wishes and good luck to you. Gary
Gary, thank goodness you’re okay and get rest and heal up. You’ll be back better than ever and thank you for all of your videos. I recently started to get setup for segmented turning and your videos are helping me a lot.
Thank you very much Graham. There will be videos. Maybe a month before any turning ones but it is just a matter of me not going stir crazy LOL. Thanks and Happy New Year, Gary
Thanks for the updates, both the jig and your injuries. I understand the pain you're going through. I had to have reconstruction of my ankle for torn ligaments, which led me to have a knee replacement. The worst part was not being able to drive because of the boot on my right ankle during recovery. Take care, and I look forward to seeing your more technical videos.
Dang, sorry to hear about your injurys😢. Hope you mend welland fast. We just don't heal as fast as we use to. Thank you for showing us in detail how you make everything you use. Had you not gone to great lengths to show us you wouldn't have been injured! Thank you and God Bless
Thank you Bob I appreciate your comments. I do not blame heading out to show the piece. As was going to empty the dust bin anyway because it was not working as well. I blame trying to clean up my shop LOL Where I fell was a nice clear area. Thank you for your prayers, Gary
All the best to you Gary and hopefully a speedy recovery. Will definitely be watching your videos each week, just take your time and all will be fine and you will be back turning. Take care and all the best to you. Regards Jim
Thank you very much Jim. Happy to hear you will be watching what I am filling in with. I will see the doctor again in a few weeks. Take the splint off and back to the boot. I know I will not be able to put weight on it for a 6 week time span. Thank you very your comments and best wishes. Gary
Thanks so much Bob! Wow Not sure I "screwed" my foot up that much but I did get 2 pins. Going stir crazy(not a long trip for me LOL) but I am listening and with the help of my wife will get there. Thanks for watching, Gary
Thank you Tim It did go well thank you. They say about 30 minutes under the sleepy sleepy stuff. I argue it was only 10 seconds tops. What a crazy feeling that is. And the nutty things the nurse says that I said while waking up LOL Gary
@ThePapa1947 Yeah, I know that feeling. I had a major surgery back in the 90s and was on the table for almost 7 hours, and it just seemed like a few seconds. I will keep you in prayer for a painless and quick healing.
Was sorry to hear about your troubles. The good part is that the six weeks does go fast and you will be back in the shop in no time. Just remember the bell. It's not that bad to ask the one closest to you for help. Take care God speed and prayers to you.
Thank you Paul. My wife is taking good care of me and I know my sons will be over if we need help I can not do. Which is most things right now. Thank you for your prayers. They have all helped. Gary
Gary, I'm so sorry you are having to end 2023 this way, but I'll watch whatever videos you put out. I learn something every time. Best of luck with the surgery and recovery.
The 90 degree adjustable stops with the measurement guide are a lot more accurate with smaller angle cuts. However you will notice a discrepancy between your set SEL length and the actual SEL length at large angles. The actual SEL lengths will always be larger than the measurement of the gap in the gauge. Simply geometry. It typically isn’t a major problem but I was scratching my head for a while trying to figure out why they were different when I first made mine. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Thanks Rick. Yes they will be off a little. What I did was pulled the stop away from the blade a given amount. So it would cut a known length along the the segment. I then set the opening on the jig to 1" The blade will not measure that in a straight line from the stop but it still cuts the 1 inch needed. This should work on all the segments that are cut lets say for 18 segments per ring. So the stop is really a little closer to the blade than 1 inch. At least it worked that way for me.
Sorry you had that accident and it will keep you away from the shop for a few weeks but just do as the doctors say and don't overdo it! Doing some design work on the computer should be interesting as we all need to get better at that or at least I do! good luck with everything and thanks for the tutorial on the segment jig! Cheers Al
Gary, Sorry about your fall and resulting injuries. I can relate to falling in my shop too, but I didn't have broken bones or torn ligaments. We "old folks" just don't lift our feet as high anymore and therefore are more susceptible to falls. Enjoyed the making of the segment stop and will make one. I have one that has similar adjustable stops, but has limitations on accuracy. Get healed and I will continue to watch your excellent talents work. I have a basic CNC and haven't taken it out of the box, but am anxious to get it setup and use it. All the best!
Thanks Kevin. Yes I had a shoulder enjoy over 35 years ago. Doctor told me a break would have been better. Hope the fact they fixed the gap with pins it may not be as stressful on them. Who knows I am just someone who makes sawdust LOL
I also started the glue press today. Cut the pieces for the bottom 16"x 16". My lathe has a 14" swing, I'm thinking 16 inches should be big enough. Can you give me guidelines on how tall to make the uprights. Thanks.
@@bobbyshelton8781 I would probably make it 16 inches. I use spacers a lot if needed rather than adjust. I normally have it set around 8 inches above the bed.
Terrible news about your leg Gary - sorry to hear!! Best wishes for the speediest recovery possible. Be sure I will be one of your subscribers eagerly waiting for your return to turning and anything you post between then and now. Best regards -- Dennis
Thanks so much Dennis. I may have a ton of these fill in videos stacked up. I find them fun to do as well. Not as much as turning but I got to do what I can do. Thanks for your comments, Gary
Glad you’re going to be ok. I shattered my heel in Jan 2021 and was non-weight bearing for 14 weeks. This was less than 3 months after buying my first big boy lathe. It was devastating. I ended up getting an I-Walk (kind of a peg-leg replacement from the knee down) after going crazy for 4-5 weeks that gave me enough mobility to return to the shop. I was procuring log pieces and cutting them up with a chainsaw. Probably not the smartest thing, but I was being careful. The I-Walk looks funny and feels dangerous to start, but in the 9-10 weeks I used it, I only came close to falling one time n the living room. That was because I let my guard down in a familiar environment and stumbled on a kid’s toy. Good luck in the surgery and have a speedy recovery.
Thanks my friend,

I remember when the pattern shop I worked at first got into rapid proto type they got an LOM machinel
Hired a young engineer(not mechanical) to set things up.
Thanks my friend,
Gary
Oh man, so sorry for the accident you had 😐 wish you a speedy recovery to 100%
Thank you very much.

Hi Gary! I hope your surgery went well. I look forward to your videos you are a great turner and also a great instructor. Your instructional videos over the next several weeks will welcomed.
Thank you very much Rick. I am so happy to hear you look forward to the next few weeks content.
Happy New Year!
Gary
Gary,
I wish you well in your recovery.
Gary
I always appreciate your sharing of knowledge, plans and projects. I wish you a quick recovery.
Thank you Julian. I appreciate your comments.

Gary
Best wishes for a fast recovery.
Thanks so much Rick. Looking forward to that.
Thanks for you best wishes.
Thank you Jim and what a wonderful way for me to think about this.
Gary
So sorry that you hurt yourself 😢 Hope that your surgery goes well! 🙏🙏
Thank you Douglas. I had the surgery Thursday so it was the day before I posted this video, Wanted to keep my Friday slot open LOL
Surgery went great and today I am feeling not so bad.
Thank you very much for your concerns,
Gary
I feel your pain at the beginning of August had to have neck surgery so couldn’t turn for about 12 weeks, just do what the Drs tell you and be as active as you can. Really enjoy all you put out, thank you for sharing
Thank you very much Jim. Ouch must have been hard not turning your neck. Hope all is well now.
For sure I will listen to the doctor on this one.
Thanks again,
Gary
I've just replied to your email from last week, Gary. Then, I got a text from Tuffy telling me he saw your video this morning and your explanation. I will watch the whole video but as you might imagine, I skipped right to your explanation, first thing. I'm glad you've had the surgery and got that part over with. Now the healing begins. Sounds like it is going to take awhile and be painful. For that, I'm truly sorry. I will be praying for you, my friend. As everyone is saying, just take your time to get it right, we'll be here each week for whatever you have to share. Best wishes, buddy.
Phil
Thank you very much Phil,
You know that old saying: We do not bounce like we used to!
But need
Gary
Gary, take all the time you need bud. We'll be saying a prayer for a successful surgery and a quick recovery.
Thank you so much. Your prayer is much appreciated.
Gary
Thank you very much for all you do. I hope you get better soon from your injury.
Thanks so much Manuel I will get back to the lathe. Only when the doctor says ok though.
Thank you for your kind words and concerns.
Gary
Take care of yourself first and I enjoy all of your videos thanks for sharing
Thank you very much Shane I appreciate you kind words.
Gary
Get well Gary . We need you out here.
Joe
Thank you Gary...that is the plan.
Gary
Gary All I can say my friend is get well soon as that is the most important thing, your health. That was a great wee video ans very well explained, take care and hope that good Lady of yours looks after you LOL
Thank you Alan and happy you liked this video.
Yes I have a good one. She has put up with me for over 51. Has been a real angle with this event along with other minor things I have gone through.
She is resting as not gotten anymore sleep than I have in the last week. Lucky to sleep past 2am.
Hopefully that will improve soon. Need to time the pain pills better.
Garu\y
Take care of yourself, Gary. We'll be here when you get back to turning!
Thanks so much Crystal. I sure hope it is not too long.
Thanks again,
Gary
Gary, so sorry to hear about your injury, get well and I will be waiting for your next video..
Thanks Michael. I had ankle surgery 8 months ago and missed a few months at the most. Been posting weekly since then
Thanks for asking,
Gary
Oh my - so sorry you got hurt. Sounds like you are in good spirits. Get rest and you will be back.
Thanks so much. Yes it has gotten me down but not in sprits,
Gary
Get well soon Gary! The pleasures of getting older eh? Still much better than not getting older though! Nicely made segment stop by the way.
Yes that is a fact. I think last year I would have bounced up and kept on going LOL
It was the twist that did it in.
Happy you liked the segment stop!
Gary
Praying for quick and complete healing after your surgery brother. Some software videos would be great!
Thank you very much Chris your prayers are welcome and I feel them all.
For sure there will be some software videos coming. As you know I do love my software.
Thanks again,
Gary
Wishing you all the best during your recuperation. As we age mending takes a little longer. Don't hurry things. 🙏🙏
Age???? I beg your pardon. Opps just looked at my idea picture does not match LOL
I will need PT on my shoulder again as I lost a lot just using it to help get vertical.
I will do those exercise as I wait. I can do most sitting down.
Thanks for your comment,
Gary
Good luck.
Thanks so much Travis for all you kind words.
Gary
Sorry to hear that your New Year is starting off on a painful note Blessings to you and your wife and sit back and heal and don't rush it we will be watching for you to start turning again may God give you strength and comfort as you heal
Thank you Wade and he is in action right now. Always with us.
Gary
Get well soon Papa. From a faithful viewer.
Gary
Gary, sorry to hear about your accident, hope all goes well with the surgery and get well soon.
Thank you Michael , surgery went very well. Although I was taking a nap when they did it LOL.
Gary
Gary,
Firstly, get yourself taken care of!
Gary
Gary I’m so sorry to hear about your leg/ankle I pray everything goes well and a fast recovery for you. Keep your head up
Thank you Danny. The leg does not hurt any more even though there is a fracture. But it is stable now because of pinning the ankle. Well we are still laughing and that helps.
Thanks for your prayers/
Gary
Gary, hope all goes well for you so you can get back to turning soon. Cheers, Tom
Thanks Tom. I will have to talk to the doctor but it would have to be sitting. At least for 6 weeks.
I need to wear this splint they put on then i can get back to the boot.
Thanks,
Gary
Hope you heal quickly and completely!
Thank you Gary. It is healed up to where I can do what I want but it is still sore at times.
Thanks for asking,
Gary
I so sorry to hear about your injury Gary. I hope all goes well and take your time to recover fully. Thinking of you.
Steve.
Thanks so much Steve. Doing ok will just take time before I can stand on it.
I appreciate your concerns.
Gary
Love what you do,except for falling. I replaced a knee in Oct 2022 and it is great. Work your PT, ice and anti inflammatories are your friends. See ya around!
Thank you Mickey. I am pretty good at falling. The landing part needs some help LOL.
Gary
So sorry for your injury Gary. Don’t rush to get back. I still have loads of your videos I’ve not watched yet! Keep safe. Your videos are an inspiration.
Thank you very much and I will do my best to follow orders. But these doctors orders I will for sure.
Thanks for your comments and thanks for watching,
Gary
Hello Gary
so sorry for the mishap iam sure the you will be as good as new. dont rush we will be here when you get back Good luck Jeff
Thanks so much Jeff. I will take my time and pretty sure she has locked the door to my shop LOL
See you on some design videos I hope.
Thanks again,
Gary
So sorry to hear about your accident...that shop gremlin got ya...hoping for a speedy recovery for you...stay safe...press on 😎Joe
Thanks Joe. When my son was over the day after all he could find was a small metal dowel.
Gary
Gary, so sorry to hear about your accident. Rest up do the physio. We'll keep watching your excellent videos.
Thank you Michael. That is the plan. Sure seems like a long time for me not to use my lathe. But I will keep busy one way or another.
Thanks!
Gary
I hope that you will be well soon your health is more important looking forward to all your videos
Thank you Wynand. It is healing. Slower than I would like but I have realize that and the time will pass.
I will be doing other non turning things though.
Thank you very much,
Gary
Get well soon! I'll keep watching whatever you put out! I like the segmenting idea. Something I'd like to try in the future.
Thanks so much!
Gary
I’ve gotten way behind on watching your videos Gary, I sure hope your surgery went well. I am sending prayers healing and good results with pt when you get to that point. I look forward to the videos you’re able to put out. Best of luck to you sir.
Thanks Dale. Must of missed this. Been hard getting around but doing better thank you.
Gary
Get better soon Gary! You’ll be missed on RUclips!!
I plan on being here weekly. But not in front of my lathe. Hope it will be interesting to most.
Gary,
Sorry to hear of your injury. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
Thanks so much Donald. I appreciate it.
Gary
Gary, sorry to hear about the mishap in the shop. Wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery. Cheers
Thank you kindly Phil
Hang in there Gary!
Thank you John...will do,
Gary
Gary, bummer! I know you will recover well and be back at it before long! Certainly enjoyed and learned from this video and look forward to your upcoming ones. Stay safe and be well!
Thank you so much. It is a matter of time and me staying off that foot. The wife and I have worked as a team to get me up to use the walker and then a rolling chair.
I look forward to showing some simple designs.
Gary
Gary, I am so sorry to hear about your accident. Good luck with the surgery and hope you bounce right back! I love the Tinkercad content too.
Thanks so much Lee. If only I would have bounced when I landed LOL.
Surgery was a week ago and I think it is feeling better.
I have a TinkerCad video lined up to show. Maybe after I do the WoodTurnerPro one.
Thanks,
Gary
Hi Gary I am very sorry to hear of your fall and injury. Take care and see you soon
Thank you very much Dave.
You take care as well my friend,
Gary
Hope you soon recover Gary, that is a cool segment stop mate ...great job . I'll catch up with you in the spring as I have a lot of hospital appointments coming up starting in a few days time Take care mate and no bouncing around for a while , Bram
Thanks Bram. I promise no bouncing around. Found out I do not bounce so well.
You take good care of yourself my friend.
Gary
Ow, dude! Here's to a speedy and uneventful recovery!
Maybe time for a mini lathe...hmm
I will wait the 6 weeks.
Surgery was yesterday. With the blocker no pain at all. But I feel it wearing off.
Gary
Yup! A broom is an essential tool for us old folk. I sweep the floor before and after I work. Please take it easy and get well. Blessings from South Africa.
You are right about that Adrian. I have 2 of them. Maybe that is what I tripped on LOL.
Something small I did not notice.
Thanks my friend,
Gary
Hi Gary,
I just watched the video for about the third time and managed to catch some of the key words that you said (i guess im a little slow in the hearing department) and found the miter slot parts of which you spoke.
Can never have enough 🤪
Seeing the doctor this week.
@@timrauscher3965 sorry about your health issues. Hope you are doing well now.
Blessings
Thank you very much John. Your prayers are much appreciated.
Let me know how you jig build goes and if you have questions feel free to ask.
Gary
Gary: Sorry to hear about the accident. Take care and heal up. We will all be here for you when you get back to your lathe.
Thank you very much James. Meanwhile I will have other things to show.
Thanks!
Gary
As much as I love to watch your videos,we can wait. Get yourself all better first. I hope for a speedy recovery. God bless
Thank you Kevin. Been 2 months since I did this video and starting get around now. I start PT this coming Monday.
God bless you as well,
Gary
Gary, get well soon!
I don’t know what I would do without your great videos!
Thank you Bruce. It seems like a long time to me but I will be back at it.
Thanks again,
Gary
I concur with everybody here, don't worry about us, get yourself fixed up first! best wishes on a speedy recovery.
Thank you Gary. It is 1 week after the surgery and this morning it feels better. But the pain comes and goes.
I like the way it feels right now.
Thank you very much ,
Gary
Thanks again,
Gary
I wish you a speedy recovery and I look forward to your return. I am sure I will enjoy your presentations on design in the meantime. Best of luck with the surgery.
Thank you very much Doug I will work on some design stuff while I try my best to take it easy.
Gary
Well, 2023 can just die, already. I'm sorry about your injury, Gary. I'm planning to email you & Gord, soon. Maybe that'll keep your mind in the game, but, as you said, you'll find some way to stay involved. Best wishes on surgery & recovery. Really impressed with the precision of your jig, as well.
Thank you so much Jay for your comments and concerns with my injury.
Gary
Thanks again,
Gary
So sorry to hear about your fall. Hope you heal quickly. I think 3d printing is interesting too.
Thank you very much. I have some 3D things worked out as well as some segment software tricks.
Thanks again,
Gary
Thanks,
Gary
Gary. Thanks for all of your time you spend sharing your talent. It is gratefully appreciated Your jig is a great addition to any shop, and it is very well explained. Take care and see you very soon
Thank you Dave!
So sorry to hear about your fall and wish you a speedy recovery!
Thanks Tom!
Thanks Gary for all your Videos! All of us are wishing you a rapid recovery.
Thank you kindly
Gary,
Thank you for the segment jig video.
Thanks so much
i agree with all the rest of all your followers what they say get better soon Bob England UK
Thank you Bob. I see the doctor next week and will find out how it is going.
Thank you for your comments,
Gary
Praying for you, and a quick recovery.
Thank you very much I really appreciate your prayers. They are felt.
Gary
Gary, I hope you get well soon and look forward to seeing your videos in the new year.
Thank you very much Graham. There will be videos. Maybe a month before any turning ones but it is just a matter of me not going stir crazy LOL.
Thanks and Happy New Year,
Gary
Thanks for the updates, both the jig and your injuries. I understand the pain you're going through. I had to have reconstruction of my ankle for torn ligaments, which led me to have a knee replacement. The worst part was not being able to drive because of the boot on my right ankle during recovery. Take care, and I look forward to seeing your more technical videos.
Thank you very much Douglas. Mine is my right foot as well.
I will be making those technical videos soon.
Gary
Dang, sorry to hear about your injurys😢. Hope you mend welland fast. We just don't heal as fast as we use to. Thank you for showing us in detail how you make everything you use. Had you not gone to great lengths to show us you wouldn't have been injured! Thank you and God Bless
Thank you Bob I appreciate your comments.
I do not blame heading out to show the piece. As was going to empty the dust bin anyway because it was not working as well. I blame trying to clean up my shop LOL
Where I fell was a nice clear area.
Thank you for your prayers,
Gary
All the best to you Gary and hopefully a speedy recovery. Will definitely be watching your videos each week, just take your time and all will be fine and you will be back turning.
Take care and all the best to you.
Regards Jim
Thank you very much Jim. Happy to hear you will be watching what I am filling in with.
I will see the doctor again in a few weeks. Take the splint off and back to the boot.
I know I will not be able to put weight on it for a 6 week time span.
Thank you very your comments and best wishes.
Gary
Get better Gary. My prayers are with you for a speedy recovery.
Thank you Scott!
Get well soon buddy! Be a good patient do as your told! I broke a bone in my foot in a similar fashion got six screws and a plate! Love your content!
Thanks so much Bob! Wow Not sure I "screwed" my foot up that much but I did get 2 pins.
Going stir crazy(not a long trip for me LOL) but I am listening and with the help of my wife will get there.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Sorry to hear of your accident. Hope surgery went well and that you heal quickly.
Thank you Tim
It did go well thank you. They say about 30 minutes under the sleepy sleepy stuff. I argue it was only 10 seconds tops.
What a crazy feeling that is. And the nutty things the nurse says that I said while waking up LOL
Gary
Many thanks Scott!
Hug! Wishing you a fast and smooth healing!
Maria thank you very much!
Thanks for sharing this, Gary! I pray you heal quickly, my friend!
Thanks so much Billy. I appreciate your prayers. They are felt deeply.
Gary
Cheers Al
Thank you very much Al. I do enjoy the computer aspect of some of my designs and am happy to share them.
Thanks for your comments,
Gary
Well… that’s a bummer that you fell & got hurt! Hang in there Gary; will pray for your successful recovery!
Stuart
Thanks Stuart and thanks for your prayers,
Gary
Stay safe Papa, you're in our prayers 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks Roy
So sorry to hear that you hurt yourself making videos for the wood turning world Gary. Hope you’re feeling better soon and thanks for all you do.
Thank you very much Jack.
Thanks for your kind words.
Gary
Gary,
Sorry about your fall and resulting injuries.
Thanks so much Norm.
For sure the older we get the easier we break.
CNC can be lots of fun .
Is yours a CNC router?
Gary
Yes, it's a CNC router with the option of adding the laser tool. Good luck with surgery.
I have a full sized Bridgeport CNC milling machine. Also have the TwoTrees CNC router.
Get well soon Garry. Fractures heal up well enough, ligaments take longer, so take your time.
Thanks Kevin. Yes I had a shoulder enjoy over 35 years ago. Doctor told me a break would have been better.
Hope the fact they fixed the gap with pins it may not be as stressful on them.
Who knows I am just someone who makes sawdust LOL
Get well soon, don't rush the healing process I for one, need your guidance. Stay safe and healthy, and happy New Year.
Thank you very much Bobby. That is very good advise.
Happy New Year,
Gary
Got the miter slot fixture from KM Tool in the other day. Now I need to get back to it. THANKS for all you do for us. Get well soon.
@@bobbyshelton8781 very nice. You will love it when it is done.
Gary
I also started the glue press today. Cut the pieces for the bottom 16"x 16". My lathe has a 14" swing, I'm thinking 16 inches should be big enough. Can you give me guidelines on how tall to make the uprights. Thanks.
@@bobbyshelton8781 I would probably make it 16 inches.
I use spacers a lot if needed rather than adjust.
I normally have it set around 8 inches above the bed.
Hey Gary you take care and get healed up!
Thank you very much. Slowly but surely I am getting there.
Thanks!
Thanks for your comments,
Gary
so sorry for your accident. Prayers for speedy recovery. Probably make one of these soon
Thanks Garry and thanks for the prayers.

Thank you for your comments. The I-Walk looks like it works but I think I will try and avoid it. I have trouble with crotches.
