There’s surprisingly fewer scrapped concepts and graphics than I would’ve thought, especially compared to how many beta titles there were! Would love to see more
I would like to see a part 2 of this. There is a LOT of stuff you did not mention, most notably the entire "Limbo Page" containing 20 minigames. There are also unused sections of music, unused texts, unused seed packets, debug mode, and the world 6 map in the beta (6 lane night with raised ground), just to mention a few
Yeah I’m surprised he didnt mention it. He even mentioned bungee blitz but refused to elaborate. Call me crazy but I think he’s absolutely planning a part 2
The ice cabbage pult wasn't actually replaced by kernel-pult, The idea was actually later used for the winter melon (Which you can unlock by buying the seed pack in Dave Twiddy)

13:49 in plants vs zombies 2 there is a zombie vase in vasebreaker that guaranties a gargantuar from it so the zombie vase in the first one might do the same thing

I still vividly remembered the MJ referenced zombie. I actually adore the zombie design despite the notion that, well, MJ didnt like it and it was a bad time to put such reference but I still am glad that design existed. Preferred it much more than the current disco gug
I just love seeing concepts that were possibly brought back later. 3:33 The Stinger Peashooter got reimplemented in the Facebook game "PvZ Adventures". That was even before the sequel. 5:30 The dogwalker Zombie got into PvZ Heroes and laos PvZ 3 which is still in development
I think the weird helmet (you thought it was for the Giga-Garg) was for the catapult zombie, probably with a more medieval design. (As discussed by people with more knowledge than me, I stand corrected) Fun fact you didn’t cover: the “blood” on the buckethead’s bucket is actually red paint, in line with its beta “painter” design.
Afaik the weird helmets are are clear reference to (or rather a direkt copy of) Masterblaster from Mad Max, which was a larger brutish character carring a midget on their back - just like the Giga-Garg. Maybe they removed it because it was too much of a reference or looked out of place.
I couldn’t imagine not playing the OG PVZ growing up, and that’s not a dig at you not getting around to it until this year. Growing up this game was a huge deal for 2000’s kids, I remember there were thousands of plush videos, mods, let’s plays and videos. Every birthday party I went to there was always at least one PVZ relayed gift, there was thousands of high quality merch (especially those godly Jazzwares figures that looked like they walked right of the screen) especially because it was so available to play. PC, mobile, Xbox, etc. It shaped my taste in video games and is still in my top 5 favorite games ever made.
Pvz1 is my favorite game of all time so im so glad you decided to make this video! Thanks! (Ps: 6:30 this was replaced by the upgrade plant winter melon)
So happy you’re finally doing a PvZ video, Tetra! PvZ has been one of the first ever games I’ve played in my life, long before I discovered Nintendo. Hopefully there will be a pt2
Good video! A few notes, however: "The zombies look way more ghoulish" (4:29) - those are an alien type from Insaniquarium, Sylvester! "[...] Might have been replaced by Kernal-Pault" (6:17) - considering it has the freezing effect (where it slows down zombies but doesn't immobilize them) I'd say it's more akin to Winter Melon.
13:40 the unused "Zombie" Vase is actually like to be a guaranteed Gargantuar Zombiev vase, as a similar one can be found in PvZ2, albeit Purple instead of grayish-greenm
13:32, even though the challenges tab was left changed, the minigames code aren't changed, this was proved in some of the earlier versions of the game where if you hit restart in a minigame level and read the confirmation messege, it will say: "Do you sure you want to restart this challenge"
Bruh, no way, the man actually did PvZ lost bits. There's really a lot of unused content in PvZ, so it would be nice to see a part 2 of this. Oh, also here's a fun fact : PvZ was originally supposed to be a sequel to Insaniquarium, but George Fan was interested in gardening, so he decided to make a new game based on the concept, and it eventually become PvZ (that's also why there's a lot of Insaniquarium assets/placeholders in the pre-release, because PvZ was made on top of Insaniquarium).
I'm glad yall were able to make this video. I remember how I think over this years summer or last year, I thought about plants vs zombies and wondered what cut content it included, and although I found a few pieces of cut content from the pvz series and videos talking about a few, I wanted to see if there was anymore from the series or just the first game itself
Ya know seeing the full body of the zombot makes me realize just how massive it is…but it makes me wonder something How the heck does it not break through your roof? Like it must be super heavy! Also if the zombot can toss around a camper or shoot giant balls of ice and fire…could he not just break through your wall to get you? Seems strange
The spikeweed degrading would probably be under the same circumstances as Spikerock. Spikeock can survive 3 gargantuar attacks, or popping a zomboni/catapult zombie 3 times-losing its outer spikes each time. Spikeweed may have at once been able to do the job twice.
what probably happened is that, while playtestings, they seen that spikeweed surviving 2 hits from a zomboni was too good, so they nerf it the amount to one and reused the idea for spikerock.
Great job Tetra, I hope you're doing part 2 soon, because overall, the unused content from PvZ here in part 1 seems great. I'd love to see the other games too, mostly just the classic 2D ones. Surprised you didn't call Zombot something like "B I G B O I" though.
Thank you for covering Plants vs. Zombies. by the way here's my theories on what two graphics were probably planned for: Zombie_bungi_head_scared - Probably meant to be seen when the Bungee Zombie gets flung back when trying to steal a plant next to Umbrella Leaf Zombie_boss_rv2 - Probably meant to be seen when the RV actually collides with the roof, judging by how it's a damaged version of the RV.
3:36 there are two beta builds of plants vs zombies that you can find and the stinger plant is a completely different plant then the cactus rather then being planted into the ground it flys in the air and can be placed over plants and water and can only hurt the balloon zombie and the unused propeller zombie
I think that I’ve played a version of the game with the bungee zombie and zomboni in I zombie when I was at a local pizza place once. That version was so strange. When you unlocked mini games, you got enough coins to buy out Dave’s shop and all of the mini games.
I'd love to see you cover more from this game/series! PvZ was my childhood, and I recently got it again just to relive the nostalgia! (Also, covering insaniquarium (assuming you haven't already) would be awesome!! You mentioning it unlocked some core memories of playing it as a kid!)

I've been binging PvZ content lately but man sometimes it's weird to see new content (or the exact opposite, but it comes to "new" scrapped content) for this series
I believe the reason for the original 4-button gravestone menu configuration was because the game was built on Insaniquarium, and that game’s main 4 buttons were the adventue mode, a time attack similar to survival mode, a challenge mode, and a conflict-free virtual aquarium mode like the zen garden. That’s just my theory at least.
4:07 the zombie is about to get hit by a bee, wich could imply that the "stinger" original design could be later re-used in Bee Shooter from PvZ Adventures
For Spikeweed degrading, it would have probably done so like Spikerock does currently, so it would've been able to take multiple Zombonis/Gargantuar strikes before getting destroyed, and would have degraded for each hit taken. At some point, the developers determined that this was too powerful, made Spikeweed get one-shot from all of these effects, and gave the durability/degradation functionality to Spikerock only.
Man if I had not found and took everything to the respective TCRF pages, half of the stuff in this video wouldn’t even exist. At 14:03, this screenshot is here because all of the purchasable plants aren’t featured in one single page and had to have 2 pages in order to display all of them, but this shop page still exists in the final game via hacking. I would like for you to cover the rest of everything too, like the prototypes and maybe I could help out?
So at 4:30, those enemies are actually straight from the original Insaniquarium. The game had a basic java release before the Deluxe version came out. Unfortunately it might be lost media at this point, since it was web browser based. You can also see here that the game window is labelled as Insaniquarium Deluxe 1.0, which shows that Plants vs. Zombies runs on the same engine. All the conceptual graphics are in the same art style as the original java release of Insaniquarium, which is pretty cool!
Fun fact the bee peashooter made it's way into two spin off games one being a card game called pvz heros and a Facebook game called plants vs zombies adventures.
I remember, one time, me and my bro were having trouble beating the game on our 360, and then i played with my dad, and we beat the game with 0 deaths. On the final level, i moved my cursor into a corner, and let my dad do everything. Zomboss didn't know what he had gotten himself into.
