Great tips, Andrea! I'm also super curious to see what you have in store for us with your "Learning From Our Roots" series!
Thank you! It will be a simple series where each episode is focused on growing one plant and tips on growing them. The sunflowers are just my tips but I've been talking to some old farmers as well as local master gardeners to share some tips that will hopefully be beneficial to beginners as well as maybe even some that have been gardening for a long time. 😊💕 I'll trickle the episodes out as I have them ready but I hope to have a pretty fun playlist of them by the time I'm done!
Wow! 8 inches is the smallest! Not too shabby! 🌻🌞🌻🌞🌻
Thank you! I was just excited that we still got plenty of seeds! The first 2 flower heads were empty so I wasn't feeling super confident, lol. Thank you so much for watching!
I will have to show this to my wife we are turning our front yard into a wild flower garden
Sunflowers are definitely a must have in a flower garden! The pollinators love them!
Love growing sunflowers every year. Some years are better than others. Squirrel and deer love my sunflowers too.
The critters definitely like to help themselves to the sunflowers, lol. I plan to plant more next year and allow nature to thin them out for me. 😆🌻💕
Hello my gorgeous ray of sunshine!! Oh my gosh the height!! And they would have gone higher !! The seeds are MASSIVE! Sunflowers are my absolute fav flower…….. you cannot look at a sunflower 🌻 and not smile :) great video lovely xx 💝🌼🌻
Thank you for watching my beautiful friend! 🌻🌻🌻
Very nice sharing my dear respected friend full support and Big likes from Ahmed Ali Nizamani 💕🥰💞💞❤️💕
Thank you so much for watching!
This year was the first year I actually got Sunflowers from what I planted. Yours are beautiful 😍
Aren't they so rewarding to grow! I find them so pretty, the pollinators love them, and then I get sunflower seeds to roast and sprinkle on my salads! 🥰🌻 Thank you for stopping by and watching!
Good evening Andrea. What beautiful sunflowers.
Thank you so much! 🥰🌻
All the garden was just beautiful your sunflowers for breathtaking. I always enjoy beautiful sunflowers I love watching your videos hugs and kisses from grandma Sandy and Debbie
Thank you so much Grandma Sandy!
I love me some sunflower fields. Fascinating
Thank you so much for stopping by and watching!
I love sunflowers these are HUGE!
They're a favorite of mine as well! Thank you for watching!
Those are GIANT! So nice. I guess one has to grow them like corn in many ways. 14 inches across! Oh my! Nice job!
Yes a lot like corn actually! Thank you so much for watching! 🥰🌻💕
Very beautiful flowers 🌷🌷🌷🌷💐💐
Thank you so much!
Those were some ginormous sunflowers, Andrea. Squirrels and rabbits ate some of ours as they were first coming up, but we endeavored to persevere, "Outlaw Jose Wales reference".
I was just glad that they didn't run off with all of them, lol! Thank you for watching Chuck!
Very beautiful sharing 29like
Thank you
Thanks for a great tips on how to grow some beautiful sunflowers
Thank you for stopping by and watching!
Love the garden. Sunflowers are tall. Coming back to join your family. Watching two videos and giving thumbs ups Have an amazing day. I love gardening
Welcome! Thank you so much for joining us! Gardening is what keeps me smiling every day! 🌱💕
They’re gorgeous! I tried sunflowers this year…deer ate them all! Rotten stinkers! Great series!
Thank you! We have deer too but so far our fencing has kept them out. I don't know that we would have much of a garden if it didn't. lol
That's cool, I had a huge one two years ago and last year. No huge ones this year. Congrats, they are so fun!
I'm just glad that the rest set seeds! I was really bummed that the heat got to the first two. Thanks for watching!
Wow those are huge and tall. I want to try to grow the Mongolian sunflower, I grew the Mammoth. I did know they dont always produce seeds until oyu told me to check mine and I did find seeds in them. You are the queen of Sunflowers, your husband looked so short over there measuring them compared to the height of the Sunflower😆
I'm so glad yours produced well! I was so glad that we only lost the first two flower heads to the heat!
LOL!! A friend of mine watched one of our sunflower videos before meeting him in person and she was stunned because he's so tall. Hahaha
Good morning 😃
I enjoyed watching your video. You did such a great job and the positive energy made me smile. You have a lovely 🥰 channel ✌🏽
Thank you so much for watching!
Beautiful. I love sunflowers
Thank you my friend!
WOW THOSE ARE STUNNING! I am in awe ❤
Thank you for stopping by and watching! 🌻
Wow 14” that is massive. I will need to try and check this sunflower out. 😁
It's definitely the biggest variety I've grown! I can't wait to see how big they get with some extra attention next year! Thanks for watching! 🥰🌻
Awesome on the sunflowers the mongolian giants are awesome, might have to give them
a try this next season!! *Have a good'nnn*
They're really fun to grow! They get so big! 🌻 Thank you for your support my friend!
Awesome tips.. I have never grown a sunflower but i will next year! 🌻
Barb you should definitely grow some! They're so pretty, the pollinators love them, you can grow pole beans up the stalk, AND you'll get sunflower seeds out of it! 😍🌻💕
@@DiggingForHealth
I already have the seeds! 🌻
You have such a beautiful garden.
Thank you so much!
Wow that is amazing Andrea. Thank you for sharing ❤️ 😊
Thank you my friend! 🌻🌻🌻
Wow big! This is one I've struggled to grow for some reason lol
Compost! They love rich compost and space to spread their roots! Thank you so much for watching!
Those look great! We grew those one year. So cool. I like your new intro too.
They're the tallest we've ever grow! So fun! 🌻 Thank you! It's a special intro for what I'm hoping will be a series to benefit beginners and maybe even share some tricks with experienced gardeners. 😊
Your sunflowers did so good. Something ate ours. I tried sprinkling with red pepper flakes, but that didn't deter animals. Beautiful. I will have to try those kind next year. Thanks for the tips. Great editing too.
Thank you so much! Sunflowers seem to be a favorite for the critters for sure.
Hi Andrea.. great informatuon! Thank you for sharing. Patty

We're going to add sunflowers next season. Just needed a spot to put them in. Great job on growing those monsters!!
They're so rewarding to grow! Thank you for watching!
Beautiful sunflower, thanks for sharing brother God bless
Thanks for watching
This was very cool!😊
Thank you! 💕
This is awesome Andrea! 😯 I think you’ve inspired me to try growing sunflowers again next year. I gave up on them because critters kept eating them 🌻
Thank you so much! 🥰 They are definitely a critter favorite so I'm going to plant more of them to anticipate the snacking next year, lol.
It is good to have access to various information about plants
Thank you!
Love sunflowers. They are my favorite and I have alot of them throughout the house. One I preserved through its stem by letting it soak up silicone while it was alive from a fresh cut. I've had it for years. Yours are the largest ones I've ever seen, awesome. I hopped on the bus. I look forward to sharing many more videos with you. Have a great night! 🤗💕🌻
Welcome! I've never heard of preserving a sunflower with silicone! That sounds so cool! Thank you so much for stopping by and watching!
Wow, those guys are huge. Didnt know they got that big. Awesome information and flowers. Got a new subscriber. Was fun to watch. Great video
Welcome! Thank you so much for joining us! They can grow even bigger! We had a blast growing them this year!
Oh wow! So beautiful. I love sunflowers, thanks for sharing and + 1 sub 🎨❤️
Welcome! Thank you so much for watching!
Thanks for the tips! Our sunflowers had a really great year last year - this year not so much. I'm not sure what changed but we'll be planting more next year. Thanks for sharing Andrea!
I amended heavily with fresh compost and they really seemed to appreciate that! I can't wait to see how big they will be next year with some mid season fertilizer too!
So beautiful video big like 🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🙏🙏🙏🙏😘😘😘😘
Thank you for watching
Wow wow wow 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻my poor huge ones (tall) have broken off in the wind. But one is almost 14 feet 👣😂😂 but I’ll measure it. Very cool Andrea
Bummer than it broke! Yours has other things climbing it too right? Maybe it helped the wind yanking it down? Lol
Thank you for watching my friend! 🌻💕
I definitely need to know how tall it is though! Definitely measure the remains, lol.
@@DiggingForHealth I’ll go do now
Wow... Great job SoilSista!! Hugemongous sunflowers. We didn't do too bad for 1st timers but I want bigger and more next year 🤣 Thanks for sharing 🌻
Try the Mongolian Giants! They are so rewarding and HUGE! I can't wait to see how big they get if we actually baby them, lol. All we did was give them compost and water!
Interesting
Thank you
Beautiful Andrea.no luck this year for my sunflower seeds. Good information. thank you
Thank you! I hope you have better luck next year! Was it the heat that got yours as well?
That and the 🐿️
Those things are crazy big !! I like the tip of sow closer then thinning but we have "issues" with thinning lol.
You gotta try some Teddy Bears next year Andrea !!
Have a great week!!
Cheers J&C 🌱🌻🌱
Teddy bears are cute! They're such a unique looking sunflower! I'm pretty sure I have some seeds that I never planted of those (because I have a seed collecting problem 😆).
I don't like thinning either but the squirrels thinned for us pretty aggressively. Haha!
Thank you for watching!
@@DiggingForHealth oh I know you have big times seed issues 🤣🤣🤣. You're partly to blame for Colleen's issues lol
@@clivesconundrumgarden Hahaha! Sorry, not sorry! 🤣🤣🤣
@@DiggingForHealth 🤣😁🤣
Incredible! Love it! I find your presentation wonderful. 😊🌱💚🙏🌻🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🔥
Thank you so much my friend! I'm going to try to offer some simple episodes like this that may be helpful to new gardeners.
@@DiggingForHealth absolutely wonderful, I wish you all the best! I am not your target audience however I am your friend and will support when possible. Thank you so much and “ goodonya “ 😁🌱💚🙏✨
@@growingwithfungi You're the best! 🥰
@@DiggingForHealth too kind sister 🙏✨
Just beautiful! Glad you did get some seeds. Now what are you going to do with them?
Shelling them and roasting for #50DollarFebruary2023 lol, I need as many food options as possible since we're producing most of what we eat for that month. I love sunflower seeds on my salads. 😁
I need to get some giant mammoth sunflowers next year. Mines were pretty but not many seeds out.
They're so fun to grow and the seeds are huge! Thank you for stopping by and watching!
Those are so beautiful and dramatic! What do you do with all the seeds?
Thank you! I shell them and roast them to sprinkle on salad. I love sunflower seeds on my salads!
@@DiggingForHealth sounds like a great idea!
I have never grown them! suprized?! I need to get some seeds - so they bring in more happy bugs!
They were so fun to grow! It was hard to measure the height at the end because they got so tall we couldn't read the measuring tape without folding it and bringing it down. lol!

@@DiggingForHealth i knew you couldn't ignore the cake reply!
@@newbeginnings-myeverydaylife 🤣 You got me! LOL!
Wow those are huge!! I need to sow my sunflower seeds. Please turn music off when you talk ❤
Thanks! This was an older video so I may have forgotten to turn it down. Thanks for watching!
@@DiggingForHealth ok. I don't hear very well so as soon as I hear music I often give up watching. I'll find some others to watch 🥰
@@crochetingaroundnewzealand I understand, sorry about that. We do play music often in our videos to keep things interesting but I'm usually pretty good about turning it down or off when I'm talking. I'll definitely be mindful of it.
@@DiggingForHealth I can't see to edit on a phone so my videos are very plain n boring lol one day I'll save enough for a new computer. I was just starting to learn editing when my laptop broke.
@@crochetingaroundnewzealand It takes a lot of practice! I'm definitely still learning as I go! 😊
How long do mammoth sunflowers bloom for? Specifically Grey stripe.
It's going to vary with each variety a bit but ours were in bloom for a few weeks.
Nice video. Thanks.
A a curiosity, did you ever measure what the average yield of seeds in lbs or kilogrammes you got from a single flower?
I didn't think about weighing them but I would guesstimate that I got a couple cups worth from the largest sunflower head.
So less than a pound then🤔
Do you remember approximately the diameter of the seed bearing pod?
Oh, I see that you did mention in the video.
Sorry 😊
I'm curious because I'm trying to help a very poor family (living on $2/day) in west Africa to get an alternative source of income by producing oilseed from sunflower.
@@azaz700 Black seed oil sunflowers I believe are what is typically grown for sunflower oil. They're very large fields of sunflowers. We actually have a local sunflower farm. They also make side money from photographers that like to use the field when in full bloom for family photos.
Those are some big sunflowers! Do you do anything to help deter squirrels?
Surprisingly even with tons of squirrels in my yard they were only a minor annoyance until this year when they started really tearing things up. 😅 We have done multiple things this year to distract and discourage. Squirrel feeders and we even got a squirrel bungee feeder for some laughs but they wouldn't touch it. Haha, I think they were on to me. 🤣
I've been planning on doing a video to share all the things we tried this year. I just got behind on editing! Thank you so much for stopping by and watching!
@@DiggingForHealth I’ve taken a few measures. Some things work and others only work temporarily till they get wise. If you do make a video, I’ll watch it for sure!
@@Homesteading.with.Shelby I'll definitely make an effort to get it out soon then! 😊🐿️ If nothing else, it has been comical. 😆
@@DiggingForHealth I bet!!
I wanna grow those mammoth sunflower 🌻, please send me some seeds🤗🤗🤗
Send me an email with your address and I can send you some! ☺🌻
