The in-game efficiency increase from lowering the throttle is absolutely crazy. For example, the specific impulse of BI at 25% would be 1250 seconds, which is more than any rocket engine ever IRL.
At 3℅ and 18600s, it would be more than any existing and in-development propulsion technology.
At the lowest possible throttle, the exhaust velocity would reach 5500 km/s, which is ~1.8℅ of speed of light.
It used to say here that rocket engines in game shouldn't be throttleable at all, but that wasn't quite accurate, so I removed it.
the 163's rocket engine was actually throttleable after a modification was made. The first version was non-throttleable, this made the plane have low endurance, the plane took off and climbed at high pitch angle, then leveled off at high altitude, but since it couldn't be throttled, the plane quickly reached compressibility issues at high speed. This was undesirable and the german engineers added a throttle to the engine.

The reason the 163 took so long to enter service was the delay in developing the throttlable ability of the motor .

Something you might not be thinking about when you talk about how many people just slam their jets into others is
A lot of those people that do that, are fairly new to jets, I know I would do that, because I thought I had more time to dodge out of the way, but I would forget that I’m going 2x faster then in my props
I think that’s why it’s more common for head ons to end in a collision from 7.3- 8.3
People are new to jets, they haven’t gotten the hang of it, and at least 20% of those people, will never get the hang of it, and will always dedicate everything to the head on, ending it in a collision
If you can't safely do a head on, then just don't go into a head on😉

It's in a magical place, were missiles are shit, early jet planes turn like bricks and aren't very fast. No wonder it's fun

I just got the 163 and it’s a total blast. After playing the bf109 k4 for about a year it’s refreshing to actually be able to dog fight and not just boom and zoom. Very fun plane. Thankfully I’ve had lot’s of practice with the 30’s tho cause you get only a few bursts😭
Just play russia or japan, they have a lot of good vehicles and most of them are not bnz specialists like the bf 109 so you can dogfight

Consider that it is slower than 70% of the planes when stock. It was one of the most painful grinds for me
They're clapping bad players. Back in the day, when sabres/migs were top-tier and skilled players flew them, it was very hard to kill anything in the 163

I'm pretty sure the thrust to fuel consumption curve on rocket planes is way off at low throttle positions, fixing that might offset the balance.
Rocket planes shouldn't be able to throttle. Realistically they should have only an on/off switch because they didn't get "throttles" until the 1950's, and even then they weren't true throttles

@widewan7585 no, the closest thing to a rocket engine with a throttle ever made was an experimental plane in the 1950's that has so many separate engines that it would ignite/shut off individual ones to adjust thrust
@@fate3071 I hate to say you're wrong, unless my sources are wrong, the HKW 509A rocket engine on the Komet B had a 2 setting turbopump and a mechanical throttle, which provided overall 4 power settings. And correctly so the fuel efficiency of the engine was worse on the lower settings, which doesn't mean the range was worse on low power, but less overall thrust was achieved for the equivalent fuel do to the nozzle being optimized for full power.

When sabres were top tier and I was stock grinding mine, I remember being ganked by those as I was leaving the AF area under 400kph. Funny times.
I've said it many time before and I'll say it many times more: I hate these things. It's a UFO flight model that's balanced by a lack of fuel and ammo, so a disciplined individual flying it has essentially zero downsides. There is no "counter" to this thing, you NEED to either have the speed to outrun it or the agility to outturn it, or else all you can do is cross your fingers and pray that he's dumb.

It's the same with zero's, you have to outrun them because they will out turn you, but does that make it op? No
@@heliogonzalezsanchez8227 The difference is that the Zero is actually pretty slow. Most of everything at the BR of any model of Zero will be able to outrun it since it has a very weak, high drag radial engine. It also has agility second to none, not even Spitfires can outdo it. So you can always run from it, but you can't outturn it.
But with the rocket planes, the vast majority of regular jets can't outturn but also can't outrun it. It's like a Spitfire that has the speed of a P-47. Are there a handful of planes that are faster or more agile? Sure, but almost all of the rest are incapable of dogfighting it, and incapable of outrunning it.
Lol, what early jet can out turn this thing? The rudder doubles as an air brake and they have an instant energy button

It would be interesting if they made it very prone to exploding and catching fire. For some reason, the in-game damage model is rather robust, making a plane that is already hard to catch equally hard to kill.
True the actual damage model is normal but it’s ability to wing rip might make up for that. Otherwise the 163 DID actually used to explode on takeoff cause the runways were so bouncy you’d just jump into the air and crash back down dying instantly, it drove me mad 😂😂😂
Rounds take 3-5 business days to reach the target. I love this jet though, so much.

I got myself a La 200 and i been an absolute monster in every game, it's extremely fast and climbs very fast and retains it's speed even in a completely vertical climb and i been destroying everyone i catched, then this bloody thing appeared 😂
One of the things I don't understand in WT is why they made this plane so completely unrealistic if compared to the actual Me-163. The real plane was indeed very fast and could get close to Mach 1 on a dive, but this was its biggest problem, it was so fast pilots couldn't properly aim on their targets, bomber gunners used to say that they were the easiest plan to hit, because you just needed to fire in their general direction, and they would fly directly on the spray of bullets and either be badly damaged or killed, mix this with Tha fact that most Me-163 that survived any encounter with the enemy would likely to die on landing, one can understand rstand why there were almost no working plane left when the allies took down the nazis.
Serious question, is it a "pilot G" issue? I see your Me-163 taking these hard turns I don't even take in something like my Attacker, Hunter, or Harrier.
in practice, this jet is one of the saddest experiences ever - remember this guy is actually really good at this game, most of us aren't half as good

guns don't hit as hard but are easier to aim, pretty much thats all the difference + you fight at 8.7 and you're just slightly lighter than 163
