Meet the 4-Passenger D5 Ranger, available as a 4 and 6 passenger. Evolution also makes the Maverick which is the Lifted version which has all terrain tires, a Brushguard, and running board steps!
🤩 Why Having 4 Forward Facing Seats Is A Game-Changer:
- Preference: People don't like to face backwards while riding on golf carts!
- Weight Distribution: A traditional 4 pass golf cart centers all passenger's weight right on top of the rear axle so you feel everything the axle feels!
- Weight Distribution: A Traditional 4 pass golf cart has a backseat that is slightly behind the rear axle so it's essentially a teeter totter on wheels so the more weight on the backseat, the less your front tires grip the road, which in return, makes the golf cart harder to control.
- Less Body Roll: Since all 4 passengers aren't centralized in one place on the cart, the cart doesn't have nearly as much body roll while taking turns.
- Safety: All 4 passengers are within the chassis of the cart so if the cart is rear ended by a car, the rear passengers are protected by bumper and rear struts versus sitting on the backside of the cart, completely prone to being hit.

- Odd Brake Fluid Placement: Not ideal on the dashboard.
- Push-to-Start Risk: Sometimes finicky and less reliable than a simple switch.
- Audio Quirks: Lack of speakers for the driver and front passenger; we've got a solution, though!
- Hinges vs. Sliding Seats: Prone to scratch the body when removing seats
- Cupholder Design: Liquid leakage concerns into dash and on electronics.
- Battery Capacity: A larger base battery could offer more range per charge.

Just purchased the D5 Ranger in light blue. After shopping around to so many different brands and carts, we felt we got the best deal. To add all of the different features this cart would have cost us an arm and a leg. We were able to get everything we wanted plus more for a great price of 10,995. This also included a front grill and step up on all sides, LED lights on top and bottom, and additional warranty.
This video was very helpful, thanks. I had just ordered the D5 ranger 2+2, but changed my order to the ranger 4 based on your comments. I appreciated the insights about the lower center of gravity, better weight distribution between axles, less roll, and overall smoother ride for the driver/owner (that’s me). You convinced me to order the ranger 4 instead. Delivery in a week or 2, and I can’t wait!

I have had 4 Golf carts with Icon being my last one. The D5 maverick is hands down the best overall for features and price. Thanks Johnny! I don't have an exact product that I'd recommend but the best option would be a vinyl protectant spray if you're cart will sit outside much! If not, then I'd just recommend tire shine for the black plastic!

Great review. I agree with all of the pros. My only con is the seats not have a latch to open. My 6-seater was $15,500 delivered.
Thank you! And agreed, using the space below the seats as storage is a great bonus but not having a quick way to flip the seat up to access that storage isn't ideal. But overall, the D5 is still a phenomenal cart that's changing the industry!

Great cart review! Do you have any information on the availability of a Winter Enclosure for the D5 Ranger 4?
I do not. It takes some time to develop and manufacture new products so my guess is it will be atleast a year or two before we see any D5 enclosures on the market.

In California, the police are not certifying 4 seat carts and are holding to the legal description of it being a 2passenger vehicle to carry golfers and bags.
Here, 4 and 6 seat carts now must be street legal licensed LSV's. Many current owners are removing their backseats

1. We can swap cushions around yes but if you'd also rather go the aftermarket route we can order Lazylife cushion covers in for your D5! They provide a ton of color options, stitching, pattern options to!
2. We are currently working on a 2" receiver as well as a cooler carrier that will sit behind the cargo area (so you can have cooler and the cargo box at the same time). The cooler will slide right out of the receiver.
3. Yes we ship nationwide and regularly ship D5s around the country to customers!

Thanks for watching and for the compliments! And yes, I wanted to mention the golf capability more but I didn't have my golf bag on me or the attachments. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by swap seat/body colors, because you can definitely swap the cushions from one D5 to another, we've done it for multiple customers. And as for the rain enclosure, I'm sure one will come out sooner than later! My guess Red Dot, who's owned by Nivel, will make one first!

Great review! One question… is there anyway a rear facing third row could be installed on the D5 maverick four seater?? I ask this because the D5 6 seater is too long to fit in our 5th wheel toy hauler garage. I’ve checked out the forester 6 plus with rear facing third row but much prefer the D5 looks/features. As far as the rear seat is concerned, I'm sure something could be fabricated but I'm not sure how balanced the D5 would be with a rear seat sitting way off the rear axle. Doing so could make the D5 very tip prone. Now I don't know that for sure, but it's just an educated guess.
I bought a ranger and a maverick this year both great carts the Ranger drove a little smoother because it had the street tires and the Maverick has the all terrain more aggressive tires. Just waiting on BA Carts to come out with the plugin play sound system.

Love you video content! I'm try to decide between an evolution Maverick or the new Denago golf cart. Price point is close on both. What's your take on the new Denago?
I don't really have an opinion on this yet as Denago is very new so it's hard to judge an OEM when they've only been selling vehicles for a few months. At the end of the day, the dealer is the most important choice you can make, the OEM is 2nd.
Get those D5 biga$$ sound system plug-n-play plans rolling! Beta test it on my cart as a newbie. : ) Seriously though, can't wait to see what you come up with as that is about the only item we plan to upgrade on our D5R. Great video as well!
We have big plans for the D5 pnp systems and the bigger the plans, the longer the process takes, so we're hoping it will atleast be in 2023 that we release the kits! Great review. I can get by with the small negatives. My beef is the actual sound bar. The sound sucks, even when I use a usb and the songs are flac quality. Right now sounds like a car from the 70's with cheap dash speakers listening to an AM station. I understand, how often will I really be using the sound system, but for a golf cart with so many great features, put a bose sound bar on it that at least gives you some decent bass sound to it. Not what it is offering now.

How do you charge and how long does it take to fully charge? Great video btw!!!
Charging depends on battery size (They make 110AH and 205AH now). On the 110AH for example, charging from 20% to 100% will take a few hours. And Thanks!

What can you safely store in the battery compartment?
Q: does it have the wiring for the speakers in the dash? The steering wheel has a straight bar on the bottom, what's that function? You didn't mention a steel frame, future rust!
They should offer an adjustable front seat because 90%+ you'll drive around w/o back seat passengers, utilize that room to increase leg room for the front passengers.
One of the colors they should have for the sound bar is black, sometimes you don't want all that light in your cart at night...or of course, just turn off the sound-bar colors if that's possible.
Where is the place to put my cell phone? I mean a specific place, not a..."ahh, you could use this storage area." A bigger battery would also be nice, I agree.
They need to increase their warranty too.
It does not have speaker wiring but we're fixing that with a plug n play harness. I'm not sure what you mean by the steering wheel having a straight bar other than the steering wheel being flat on the bottom. Being flat on the bottom helps clearance for larger drivers. Yes the frame is steel so it could rust down the road but that depends on the weather conditions it experiences during the D5's lifetime. I agree, adjustable seats are nice but you have to remember that this cart is still considered a "budget golf cart", as they're throwing a lot at you for a low price. WAEV makes GEM Cars that have adjustable seats and if you wanted a Lithium Ion GEM with audio, you'd be well over $30k. You can turn the soundbar lights off with the touchscreen. There's not a specific phone holder correct, when I'm driving D5s I just sit them in the cupholder or golf ball holder. Thank you for watching and the questions!
My biggest issue is the low mileage. Where I live in the Villages is in a new area a bit farther than I’d like to get to amenities. Sad, cuz I love so many things about this cart!
They now make a 160AH and 205AH battery which have much longer ranges than the traditional 110AH battery!

Drove a D5 Ranger today and LOVED it other than it was all black. Then a Bintelli dealer told me Evolution carts are FULL OF ISSUES and scared the crap out of me. I’m in North Carolina and trying to dig up info on why I would NOT want an Evolution. So far, I can’t find anything bad. No real bad reviews anywhere. I would prefer a 210/220 option on the battery, however, I think the 110 will suffice for where I live. I appreciate the review! If you were closer, I’d buy one from you. My local dealer has black only. Black on black or black seat and the grey/black color. BLAH.

And that Bintelli dealer is just saying that because he wants you to buy his Bintelli. For a dealer, like us that sells Club Car all the way down to Evolution, our conversation would be way different.
Nevertheless, the most important aspect to base your decision off of is the dealer. Yes the manufacturer is important, but the dealer can make or brake the experience you have with the golf cart you buy.
I drove an Evolution Forester pro lifted a couple of days ago and was impressed with everything except that the brakes were terrible. They didn't stop well at all. Also, it rides very stiff on the grass. My lifted Club Car stops much better, and rides offroad better.

Hello! They do make a 210 for D5s now! On average, a 4 passenger D5 will travel up to 45-50 miles with the 210!
How often should I charge my battery....and how far can I get on a full charge? (110ah)
How simple is it to swap out the rear storage trunk for the golf bag holders? I’m talking about the owner doing it a couple of times a week depending on how I use it on any given day.
Very simple. Because the bag holder will just mount where to the backrest, it won't mount where the storage trunk goes. So you could technically just leave the bag holder attached and remove the trunk whenever you want to take your clubs! We haven't designed our bag holder for the D5 yet but we will!

2 other issues. You will get error codes and there’s nothing provided that tells you what they mean. There is a Facebook users group that may have a list. Can’t send links here. Also the cart shuts off after 15 minutes if it sits idle. There is no fix to this. So if you and are listening to music you’ll have to turn it back on and reconnect your Bluetooth device. So not sure why there’s a movie functionality on it.
What is the Speed on the road ?, and also what is the wheel base? My 4 seater club car Presedent will fit on my GMC pick-up with the inter tail gate down as the rear step of the cart will stick out beyond the main tail gate. I tow a camper so the tailgate needs to be closed
25mph. And the D5 is just under 10ft long, with a wheel base of 7ft compared to a Club Cars 5.5ft, so you wouldn't be able to flip your tail gate up. You more than likely would not be able to even put the D5 in the bed of your truck even if you removed the tailgate. Not that's it's longer than a traditional 4 passenger golf cart, it's because the wheel base is much longer so the rear wheels would not rest on the bed like a traditional golf cart would.
What is the gear ratio of the rear end, and are these easy to tune to 30+? That looks like a really nice cart btw
I'm not positive on the gear ratio. Most golf carts are 12-1 so it might be that. It's definitely capable of going 30mph but not much more than that!

can the seat belt bracket bar be adjusted and how do you set the gps program on the screen
There are no adjustments for the seatbelts and there is no GPS available on the touchscreen's software.
I have a 2022 Club Car Onward gas version. Is the Evolution D5 a better cart ?? How does it compare pricewise to my Onward ?? Does it ride as smooth as the Onward ?? Like is the suspension as good ??
Well one thing that's hard to compare right off the bat is if it's "better" because some people like gas more than lithium and vice versa. So if you enjoy your 200 miles per tank of gas, then no lithium cart is going to feel "better" for you because the longest range of any lithium cart out there right now is around 80 miles (Atlas). But to answer your question. Yes the handling and smoothness is better on the D5 compared to a Gas 4 Pass Onward. Now is better than an 6 Pass Onward? No. Because the 6 pass Onward is very similar to the D5 length, wheelbase, etc. A 6 Pass Onward with the backseat removed would handle just as great as the D5.
One thing I have to say is you do a really good review. it's rare that I watch a 20 minute video all the way to then end. I usually get frustrated within the first few minutes at the guy who keeps telling me what it is he's about to tell me. To me the only real draw back to this cart is the range. I've never owned a cart before, but am about to move near The Villages in Florida. I can see the wife and I needing well over 25 or 30 miles of range...

But to answer your question, yes, there is now a solution for a bigger battery since I made this video! Evolution offers of a 205AH battery which can provide double the range (so up to 50sh miles) which is pretty significant in Lithium terms. They're still pretty new at the moment so you typically have to special order the D5 with the battery.

Dekomats currently makes floormats for D5 and I don't know the exact guide for vin number to year but I'm pretty sure that the vins statying with EV-BC are 2023s and EV-BD are 2024s.
Suspension is choppy. I took front shocks off and cut 1 loop of the springs and rides better. Sound bar makes a high pitched noise. It's not great. The rest of the cart seems pretty awesome.
for the price its kinda sad they could not have run wiring to the plastic speaker covers so that install would have made it easier for the end user...... totally agree on batt size it is worthless for range and enough of a boo boo that I have passed on this cart, it is a shame but I have spoken to many folks who passed for the same reason....
Hello! Honestly, for the price, it's one of the best if not the best bang for your buck. $12k for a cart like this is way cheaper than anything else out there. But I agree, they will sell more if they figure out a larger battery!

I've been looking for a new golf cart. I couldn't believe the loose wires hanging down in the rear of the Evolution. It wouldn't take much at all for the wiring to get destroyed. It would be relatively easy to put a shroud around it, but...why would I have to fix the poor engineering?? The cart I'm looking at was $10K a year ago, and now it's $7K (brand new). It's got me wondering why the prices have dropped 30% on the new ones. Really slick looking carts, but I definitely have some questions about them.
Plug and play meaning the speakers will plug into the system that's already in there?
Correct. We already make 3 plug n play kits for other Evolution models that require customers not cut a single wire or have any wiring skills. Our kits are all pre wired with marine grade Deutsch connectors so you plug it all in, and jam! We have not dove into the electrical system on the D5 so I can't say with certain that we'll tie our system into the factory soundbar since it is CANBUS controlled which means, "difficult" lol. But that will be our plan!
How do you set the FM presets
Click search on the FM screen and then it'll automatically set your presets with the strongest stations the screen finds! And then if you want specific stations on specific buttons, you just hold that button while on the station!
Thoughts on this cart vs Denago??
I don't really have an opinion on this yet as Denago is very new so it's hard to judge an OEM when they've only been selling vehicles for a few months. At the end of the day, the dealer is the most important choice you can make, the OEM is 2nd.
The key fob shows having an alarm does it actually have one ? The dealer has no idea when i asked about it
The alarm button does nothing, there's no alarm on the cart. My guess is that Evolution used a pre made keyfob and put there logo no it and the design they picked out already had an alarm button on it.

Been doing a lot of research on getting a new golf cart and deciding between evolution vs the big three (yahama club cart or EZGO). I've seen a lot of people claim that Evolution is tricky because it's a new company and parts are harder to find than the big 3 along with the fact that it's made in China vs USA. Are any of these criticisms legitimate?
Well, there are a ton of variables at play and my answer drastically changes based on those variables. You could buy any golf cart brand from a dealer that sucks and you might struggle to get a part if you need it because your dealer might suck at getting parts lol. I believe the taboo talk about Evolution not providing parts to dealers was back during Covid when Evolution was growing extremely fast (they still are), but to speak from personal experience, we put parts orders and warranties in all the time and get most products within a couple weeks. Same goes for Club Car. But to answer your question, yes, you are buying a brand that's proven and reputable and has great manufacturing support if you buy from the Big 3. The fit and finish, dependability, and longevity of a Yamaha or Club Car is right at the top of the totem pole (there's a reason you still see 20-30 year old Yamahas and Club Cars being used at golf courses), because they can take a beating and they run like a top! Now, if you're not as concerned with knowing your cart will run for 30 years, and you're more interested in getting a better bang for your buck and buy a lesser expensive OEM with more options, than Evolution might be your answer!......I'll leave you with this. We wouldn't sell Evolution if it was not a reliable cart that made their owners happy, Evolution has been great for us, but that's also why we sell X series, and Atlas, and Club Car, and GEM, because all customers have different preferences and concerns!
Hows the frame? I liked at an Evolution about 6 months ago and the welds on the frame were terrible!
I can't sit here and tell you that the welds are great and as good as a cart like a Club Car, because it's not. But I'll also tell you that I've never had an issue with the frame strength on an Evolution and we've sold over 1000 Evolutions.

Looking forward to the PnP systems. I read a post on the forum from someone who tapped into the screen with a line converter. They reported that the speaker level signal from the screen is not full range. I’m assuming this would be a high pass since the sound bar won’t play low. Is this your experience with the other Evolution carts? Take this report with a gran of salt as it was just a FB post I read. Not my actual experience.
That is not the case with the other Evolution models. The output from the screen in previous models is an amplified speaker output. The output on the D5 screen is a CanBus signal, so a low output converter is useless. However, we are still yet to dabble with the actual connection function of the D5, so we might find more info out once we do that.
Parts are very hard to get for any Evolution Golf Cart. Our local dealers are telling us 1 year out on parts. So its just a disposable golf cart at this point
Not true. We get most parts in a timely fashion. A few years back it was more difficult, but now Evolution does a good job on parts.
What about all the things that are hidden under the dash? Is the electronics protected somewhat from rain water? All we have now at our lake lot is a nylon cover we put on our EZGO 36 volt cart duriang the summer to protect the cart from rain water.............
I never recommend customers to leave their golf cart exposed to the weather without atleast having a cover on it because electronics might be weather resistant but they're not waterproof so the lifespan of the touchscreen, buttons, and other electronics would more than likely be shorter if left exposed to rain all summer long. We have quite a few customer with Evolutions that leave them uncovered at the campground all summer long and although you can tell it hurts the cart's cushions and paint, we seldom see that it messes with the electronics.
I live in central FL where we get caught in the rain frequently. My cart has been outside in 2-3 heavy rains so far no issues. Typically it’s stored in our garage though.

I am looking for Performance factors = UP HILL POWER, TRACTION & Combination rear seat back/ cargo deck conversion option. What gradient will it push (25% angle) ? .... is it 48 volts or 36 volts system, off road tires available ??? - so onward then.

Well we can definitely work with you if you're interested! Evolution doesn't make a bed that's specifically made for the D5, but we have some universal beds that we could fabricate brackets for and install a bed on the backside! Would have a flip down to!

A dealer has to tune it. Takes 5 minutes!

You just remove the caps from the rear storage box, attach a golf bag holder to the backrest, and done! Golf Bags sit in and attach for gofling!
How reliable are these carts?😊
As reliable as the dealer selling them. Evolution's need gone through with a fine tooth comb to make sure they're ready for ownership and if they're not gone through extensively by the dealer before they put the cart in your hands, you might have reliability issues, but if the dealer knows what they're doing, you'll more than likely be fine. We have a couple thousand Evolutions on the road today and have under a handful of "serious" issues per year (serious like bad battery, bad BMS, leaky axle, etc.).

The only thing I don’t like about my D5 Ranger is that the LED’s on the back of the sound bar go into Disco mode when music is playing. This can’t be controlled. It should at least have an option for solid red to serve as an additional tail light. If music is off, solid red. Music on, flashing disco lights
Not sure why this bothers so many people? I mean I get some people don’t want to be “flashy” so I can understand that, but while your driving you can’t see it so let people see you jamming out!!
The one I saw today had a special mode for music. Or you could just select a single color.
Mine does single solid colors unless you put it in the mode to flash
How does the Atlas compare to the Evolution.
We sell Atlas to so I can honestly say that Atlas carts are more expensive because they have nicer features and have a bit better fit and finish (aluminum frame, battery size, quality of assembly) Comparing the D5 to an Atlas is a little apples to oranges right now because the D5 is a 4 forward facing unit, and Atlas is not. However, if Atlas makes a 4 forward facing model (word on the street, they are), and they're built the same way as their current carts, then I'd say that the Atlas is for the customer that is capable/willing to spend more money for a nicer vehicle. But if if you want the best bang for your buck, the D5 is for you. It's like comparing a Chevy to a Cadillac! Both are good, both there's a reason the Cadillac cost a lot more!
Are these carts AWD or RWD/FWD…?
Rear wheel drive! Besides the new Navitas 4X4 chassis, and the Waev GEM Car (front wheel drive). All golf carts are solely rear wheel drive!
So if you are worried about water getting behind the dash through the cup holders then you are saying not to drive this thing in the rain or leave it outside at night without a cover? Crazy if you are worried about that. Maybe this isn't the right cart for me.
I'd recommend not leaving any golf cart out in the elements regularly, just not the D5 in particular.

Due to the long wheelbase, the D5 handles better than 99% of golf carts out there. Now part of that is because comparing a D5 with four forwarding facing seats is a totally different type of vehicle when compared to a traditional 4 passenger cart.
I've driven every cart out there and in my opinion, the Atlas rides better than any golf cart built and that's saying something when they currently only build a traditional 4 passenger.

The price varies around there give or take $500 or more. Depends on supply, competition in region, and how well the dealer inspects the cart versus not inspecting the cart at all.
