    IT IS SIMPLE! To make the person lose their balance you angle the force slightly away from their body. To make them stand strong, you press slightly in the direction of their body. In other words a small amount of pressure away from your center of gravity tips you over. A small amount of pressure toward your center of gravity makes you stronger.

    The power of suggestion is quite real. If you believe you can do something, you are more than halfway to actually doing it. The opposite is true too, so monitor your thoughts as they come into view and attenuate the negative ones. At the same time, give thanks for all that you are and everything that surrounds you.

    I remember people trying to sell this scam at a marathon race I was participating in. They claimed it had better balance, but the person pushing down on my arm did it different to get different results. The scammer doesn't just push down on your arm. They will push it outside to make you fall and make you feel unbalanced. Then with the scam bracelet, they push inwards to make you feel very balanced. I called out the scammer, but everyone got angry at me for it. Like I was the asshole. So, I let it go.

  • @BoneyardLabs
    @BoneyardLabs Год назад

    This type of stuff has been debunked before. I remember when all the malls had the "power band" kiosks and were shilling them like they actually made you stronger because they had a 'magic frequency' built into them that interacted with your body's frequency (pseudoscience mumbo jumbo). They would to pre and post tests and it appeared to work, but after the simplest of double blind tests, their whole business fell apart and they openly admitted that their product was not based in any real objective science. This video reminds me of that. I would like to see you do the same test with an apparatus that mechanically pins all the same joints in the exact same position in a accurate and repeatable and verifiable way, then have a mechanical arm with a force indicator like a torque arm that can give you a readout of the amount of force applied each time while also giving you angular data. Make it scientific. Otherwise there is not really any telling if that joint is in slightly a different position by a millameter or 2, enough to allow an apparent 'improvement' in range of motion but not enough to detect the trickery. Hell, maybe the dude just emotionally relaxed with the bongos causing muscle tension release. That doesn't mean magic music fixed him, it just meant he was tense and needed to be allowed to chill.

  • @brdavis5
    @brdavis5 13 лет назад

    @there544 That's OK, I understand. But thank you for providing a discussion, and allowing both of our positions to be clearly, publicly displayed. You're correct; beliefs can rarely be changed by evidence. This may explain why you find my requests for evidence so irritating. But I'm not doing this to "change your belief". I was doing it to demonstrate the irrational way in which some beliefs are supported.

The mechanism (for both "negative ions by waterfalls" and the Power Balance scam) are demonstrably wrong... as a little thought shows. A placebo effect is fine... but you're encouraging people to pay $60 for a rubber band to function as a placebo. If you want a placebo... use a 3 cent rubber band and cast spells over it. It will be precisely as effective... and far, far cheaper. Reality - it works.

    Any long term practitioner of Aiki-Jujitsu or Aikido knows the bodies movement is based on physics. They change the angle of motion to fool you. He pulls down and slightly you backwards to show how off balance you are. Then with the bracelet instead of angling it back they go straight down showing how you changed. Naturally your going to not fall backward when the angle is applied straight downward.

    I think if the person believes the bracelet has power over them, they give it power. I don't see anything wrong with telling people this will help them, and if they believe it, it will. Those people will be happy. If you are a skeptic, however, it won't for you. the power of the mind is incredible. I would not mind being fooled into being strong! I think the reason it didn't work when no one knew who had it, is because everyone had doubt. Doubt will kill your happiness and power. I gave up doubt a long time ago, and I'm much happier for it!

      So you're totally cool with these people selling customers their own mind power for $60?

      I hate seeing people ask "what's the harm?"
      Spreading incorrect information and stupidity does real harm. Take the current cupping trend. Impressionable people are doing that to their kids. Some people think the same thing about the incorrect anti-vaccination arguments, and those are doing real harm now.
      Skeptic or not, don't spread the snake oil, don't spread the stupidity.

      Lisa Kempson Well said. A sceptic is usually not one who says: "all's possible, but i would like proof. " It's more like: "i don't believe it, till it's scientifically proven beyond a doubt". The last part, beyond a doubt, is the hardest to do for them, and they have a vested interest (their reputation) in seeing it fail. As Henry Ford said: whether you think you can, or you can't, you're right. Science is always catching up with reality. Reality does not come into existence when scientific proof is found, it was there before already. Scientists nowadays have a mindset of believing it's not true, until proven. The correct attitude should be, and possibly was in the past, it's all possible, we simply don't have proof yet according to the measures of the scientific method.

    @there544 I've done research on it. As well as personal tests (they can be done by gradeschoolers for science fairs, it's an easy bunch of tests to run). As to me personally... I'm not a teenager. I'm a 43-year-old with a PhD in physics from University of Michigan, & I teach Astronomy & critical thinking at another university. The neat thing is that my background, and yours, aren't relevant - just do a controlled double-blind test.
    They Don't Work.

    Instructors: for a nice lesson in skepticism/critical thinking created specifically for this video, consider using this question set.

    @brdavis5 you even said yourself why I didn't give evidence, because it is useless towards you. and I'm not going to waste my time writing paragraph after paragraph to someone I don't know on youtube, and I'm also not gonna waste my time trying to convince a single person. And why spoil someones well being by telling them they are wrong, maybe they are and maybe not, but the band defiantly effects those people and you telling them otherwise can be hurtful. ( True or not)
