My dad owned a black 1957 Chrysler 300C. Nothing out of Detroit could compare with the 1957 Chrysler 300C. They called them the bankers hotrod. It was the fastest production car of it's time. The 1957 300C broke numerous speed records including the unofficial Stock Car record at 145.7 mph and set an average speed of 134 mph at the Daytona Flying Mile.
HAS TO BE ONE OF THE MOST GORGEOUS DESIGNED CARS EVER. AND OF COARSE THE POWER FOR ITS TIME WAS OUTSTANDING . IN 1957 AT CORDOVA DRAG STRIP IN ILLINIOS THEY HAD THE FALL NATIONALS AND A TEAM FROM CALIFORNIA WAS THERE WITH THEIR BEAUTIFUL HEMI POWERED DRAGSTER. IT WAS LIKE A INDY CAR .BEAUTIFUL PAINT[MIDNIGHT BLUE METALLIC] AND CHROME ENGINE THE TEAMS NAME WAS 'COOK AND BEDWELL'' NOTHING COULD STAY WITH IT INCLUDING THE GREEN MONSTER FROM AKRON OHIO POWERED BY AN ALLISON AIRCRAFT ENGINE. CHRYSLER RULED THE DAY !AND DAVE GARROWAY OF THE FAMED NBC TODAY SHOW OUT OF CHICAGO BROUGHT HIS WHITE 57 300C AND RAN IT AGAINST ARNE BESWICKS HEMI DODGE AND IT WAS FANTASTIC .DAVE WON ARNE MISSED HIS SHIFT.
Also pops just showed me the log book to that 300D. July 1960 it got 10.7mpg and the Ethyl cost $ .25gal. That car weighed 5,780, with full tank and driver. Dad drove the shit out of that car. 3 torque flight over hauls (costliest rebuild $85). 2 rear diff rebuilds. New brake shoes about every 3months. Those carbs used a mechanical linkage so you tipped into them frequent. A buddy with a new SRT hemi cherokee told me he gets 12-13mpg, in town, rodding the shit out of it in the summer.
I have a primo condition 1958 Plymouth Fury. I removed the entire interior and chased out every squeak and rattle with a rubber hammer. Then I insulated all the floors and every interior panel with quarter inch ozite carpet padding. Result? No rattles, quiet interior, and the doors and trunk shut like a safe.
on Jay Lenos videos, he has a 300B also. Jay mentioned that the 57 300B is about 500 pounds lighter than the current HiPerf Demons / 300's of today. Check it out. Whew, I would have bet the 300B was a 1000 pounds heavier.
Great and very interesting video. How about losing the "talking head" presentation. Show the beautiful vehicle and have the audio run in the background, even with how handsome as you gentlemen are. Thanks
My dad had a black 1958 300D, a twin to the car above. He traded it off in 61 back in 1973 we tracked the car down. The next owner after my dad put his wife in the car. She baby sat a kid with epilepsi. Kid had a siezuer and she tossed the kid in the 300 for a 20mile full throttle ride to the hospital. She passed a family friend street racing on a side road. When she left the hospital (kid was ok) the car died. She had orbital fractured the crank in that Hemi on the way to the hospital!!
Do you know anyone who works on These? I don't want just anyone to put my car back together. any info would be helpful. I would like to see my dads car back together. my dad was a member of the 300 club and I was also
Look what Chrysler has for the 300 now: a 4-door sedan family car. Of course, they started that idea back in the '60s. Along with the Charger now being a family car, great nameplates ruined.
Now I just can t stand sitting here and just "watch" them just incredible and very "beautiful" Chrysler 300:s .. instead I just would like to be able to .. just jump into the video .. and "drive" away with "everyone" of them .. Sorry but that it s my mood whenever I see one of theese so Fu.. great Cárs ever built !!!
@polaradude My Dad had one in the 60s that he bought used and ran 142mph on the dry lakes (El Mirage) they told him he needed to put a roll cage in it if he was to make more runs at those speeds.
I read years ago that the 1957 300c held the sustained top speed on a closed circuit at 150 mph.n Fast as a rocket with drum brakes, yikes!! I think I would take the risk and see if it's faster than the 1957 Dodge D-500 custom royal with the super red ram 325 cu in. I know I'd get smoked but what a car to lose to!!! No car like a Mopar
Beautiful very rare never seen one on the road. In my opinion the 59 Cadillac is superior and the most known car for the fins but these are beautiful and shark like fins.
A few cars could match the 300s up until 100 mph. But that's when the hemi was just starting to breathe. No stock motor could outrun a 300 at over 100 mph, (not even most cop cars). The 300s were BOMBS.
Chrysler products squeaked and rattled, put together loose but they ran well enough. I was working on them daily in a garage back then. They were fast but people liked GM cars because they were QUIET. Way less wind noise at highway speeds, and most drivers didn't go out for road racing or outrunning the cops, (which Chryslers could definitely do). Back in the day it was you or the cop. If he couldn't catch you he couldn't give you a ticket.
+GooglFascists I recently read that Chrysler's labor force was quite different from GM's. I wonder if that's why GM had a better 'fit and finish' than Chrysler.
Way to many face shots and talking heads, not enough Cryco 300C. Need long lingering closeups with tech stuff like Ci HP etc shown in text on screen. Its a beauty but I barely got to see her. Reboot and Reshoot!
Truly a work of art, especially that engine with those beautiful 4-barrel carbs.....
Stunning. One of the best looking cars ever produced.
One of my favorite cars of all time, Chrysler 300C (and the D)!!!
It would be nice if you'd uploaded HD versions. These videos are historic.
one of the finest cars ever built anywhere, anytime. my beloved Chrysler corp!
Baddest set of wheels ever to hit the road. Beautiful!
Gorgeous car! Wish you showed more of it
Wow, that car is just a work of art
This car is awesome!! I even have the model of this car! Looks exactly like this one!

And the thing was ordinary hard working Americans could afford them unlike the German equivalent.

I've had GTXs, Challengers, Duster 340s, etc. Would trade all of them put together for one of these. These were put together like no other car.
My favourite car ever. I have a 68 GTX convertible but this car here is what I would like to own.Especially in black.

Lee Crt Yes, but is still possessed?
Love the car! It's a little disappointing that there's not a test drive.
This is just my opinion, but the 57-58 300s are the most absolutley drop dead gorgeous cars ever made, especially in black. And very fast. ooooooOO.
Dad had a 57 New Yorker - that 392 sure surprised a lot of "fast" cars..... :)
My dream car is the 300c 2005 -2014 shame Chrysler won't be making them anymore it will be worth some money in the future
First thing people ask, does it have a hemi. I'll bet most people don't know what hemi is an abbreviation for or what it means for the engine.
I'd rather have this car than any new one!
Chrysler styling scared the hell out of Harley Earl and he promoted the style of the 59 Caddy as a rebuttal. Whoops!

how would a person contact this guy. I need a few parts for my 55 300. thanks for any help - Tyson
thatcar in brown, could be modified into a fantastic Flintstone mobile

Car almost looks animated…Like it's gonna' blink at you...
Badass AF.
the best car in 50th
My favorite motor for looks is the longram wedge, but this is close... or maybe a tie.

Alex Holub The New 300 is too stubby and both decks are chopped off.
My 08 has a 350hp hemi with all wheel drive and can go 100 on frozen dirt with studded snows, and is a sleeper. They even made a 2wd with 425hp.
@@michaelmcguire3198 My 05 Hemi is a beast too. Far from being a family car.
Today's 300 and Charger are good cars in their own right, but I DO get what you mean. They are just not the same.

Yes!! My Dad owns a 58 300D and it is a very very quick Car!
No this is better
I would disagree the 1959 Cadillac is number #1 for the 1950s. I love the Chrysler 300 but Cadillac is unmatched
The 57 Chrysler is Exner at his best.
58 fury as well
