Thank you so much!!!!I had this machine forever and was threading it all wrong!!!! It works great now and my thread isn’t breaking anymore. Great instructions ❤️
Thank you so much! I just received my mother's old sewing machine and of course, there was no manual. I was doing fine until the bobbin thread ran out while sewing on my daughter's girl scout patches. You helped me out tremendously!
thank you so much for this. i just bought this machine and have never owned one before. putting the bottom bobbin in was so hard for me at first but this was easy!! thank you
"I'm gonna trim the rest of my little tail off here." Couldn't help chuckling. But I also have a Brother and you have the kind of clear presentation if am looking for. Thanks!
Thank you so much! You got right to the point, and explained everything so well! I just got this model for christmas and haven’t used one in at least 17 years, ha!
Thank you! My mom has the same sewing machine and this is about my 2nd time using it but this time I’m getting it ready myself. This was super helpful! I tried calling my mom so this was the second best thing to do lol
Love this! I’m 12 and for my birthday my grandma got me a sewing machine I really wanted to try but couldn’t figure it out thanks so much it really helped ❤
Thank you so much! Even the Brother instructional video did not help as much.. YOU GOT RIGHT UP ON the tension threading for us to see and I really appreciate that because that is the part that was not clear (and different than mine) on the Brother's video. Yours was the same in appearance and was FAR more clear to see what you were doing. I am excited now to try out my new machine!
This is extremely helpfull because I got a new sewing machine and I had no idea how to put the bobbin in it!! Lol 😂 EDIT 5 hours later: I finished a whole quilt top in 4 hours. Would have been shorter if I didn't need to use a seem ripper. Lol.
You made me cry. I can't even sew a straight stich because either my bobbin is messed up or my tension is, and now I've messed with the tension and stitch length so much I just want to give up. p. s. I'm not a sewer. Could you tell?
What number do you set the large dial ( by the hand wheel ) at for a good straight stitch on cotton ? And what number do you set it at on the small dial ( above needle ) To get a good tension..so thread doesn't knot up under neath on cotton fabric ? Thank You
Well guess what? You made this so easy! I figured out that you a Were doing what Brother referred to as quick set. Their video and the illustrations in their manual are clear as mud. So I pitched that to one side, went back to your video, and I've been sewing for an hour. Too bad I cut off the last three inches of my apron thinking it was a neck strap. 🤦I'm going to try and attach it back to the apron with rick rack or something... But hey! I didn't give up! 💪
I have a new brother...the cheapest one...I replaced one I have used for years (only when I NEEDed it so not an expert by any means. When I needed it, it worked. I knew how to navigate it). I have had this “new” machine for 2yr now and get so fed up each time I try that I’ve hand sewn every necessary project and avoided ALL “leisure” projects I would just love to do. It makes me sad lol. I think the tension on my bobbin is messed up. I’ve watched videos time and again. Here I want to make face masks and have every single thing I need except the knowledge of that dang machine. I almost bought a different one but then figured it wouldn’t be much different. Somehow I have GOT to figure this thing out. I’m trying again this weekend. Wish me luck!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! The instructions were not clear on the step you made so easy by holding your finger down to properly feed the bobbin into place. You made it so simple
After several failed tries I found this video. Single most important tip for me was to hang on to the end of the thread when you start. I thought the machine took care of that. 😖 It does so much else!
Thank you. But I’m finding it hard to see any video that shows how to actually begin sewing after inserting your bobbin correctly. How do I get the thread into the needle to start?
Here is a video on how to thread the needle:. ruclips.net/video/2x2LE7Agwa8/видео.html Here is a longer, full tutorial video: ruclips.net/video/-yvcu2zXj54/видео.html
Thanks for sharing. I am trying to buy a walking foot for this machine. Never used one before. Do you have any suggestions on buying a walking foot for this machine. Thanks again.
I was gifted a Brother SM1704. I bought the missing accessories directly from brother. I've been following the instructions for inserting the bobbin but, the needle won't catch the thread when I attempt to sew. Please help. I've called brother and they say to take it to be serviced. I can't afford it.
When threading the bobbin, make sure the stem at top-right is fully snapped over to the right side, toward the wheel. If necessary, snap the stem back to the left, and then to the right again.
Thank you so much!!!!I had this machine forever and was threading it all wrong!!!! It works great now and my thread isn’t breaking anymore. Great instructions ❤️
I was doing it COMPLETELY wrong. Thanks for the easy instructions!!
Thank you so much! I just received my mother's old sewing machine and of course, there was no manual. I was doing fine until the bobbin thread ran out while sewing on my daughter's girl scout patches. You helped me out tremendously!
Such easy to understand instructions and visuals. She's a great 'teacher'
thank you so much for this. i just bought this machine and have never owned one before. putting the bottom bobbin in was so hard for me at first but this was easy!! thank you

What setting do i need to put my machine on? i can't get it to actually thread. I'm so lost.
What I missed was the part at the end, where you push the stick that the bobbin is sitting on to the right, hope that helps!
Thank you so much! You got right to the point, and explained everything so well! I just got this model for christmas and haven’t used one in at least 17 years, ha!

Thank you! I can do this easily on my Mom's old Featherweight, but I've been having trouble with this.
I am the ONLY one that cannot get this to work. It is just not sliding thru there. Very frustrating.
Me too brah
Yeah…the foot is moving but the thread isn’t…what am I doing wrong?
It is very easy when I first started it looks so frustrating but I got used to it

Thank you. But I’m finding it hard to see any video that shows how to actually begin sewing after inserting your bobbin correctly. How do I get the thread into the needle to start?

What side of the bobbin should be placed inside?
Which side doesn't matter. Just make sure to thread comes off the bobbin as shown in the video.

Thanks! I now live overseas. All the directions were in Turkish & my interpreter doesn't sew. Now all is great!
Why does my machine don’t work threading in the bobbin?
Thank you 😊

I have been doing this incorrect. Thank you for the lesson. 😊
Thank you so much, this was very helpful for me 👍👍👍
Thanks for sharing. I am trying to buy a walking foot for this machine. Never used one before. Do you have any suggestions on buying a walking foot for this machine. Thanks again.
I would try the honeysew foot for low-shank machines available on Amazon.
You dont need to use a bobbin cover?
My machine needle break down when i thread like this bt why?? 😓
I was gifted a Brother SM1704. I bought the missing accessories directly from brother. I've been following the instructions for inserting the bobbin but, the needle won't catch the thread when I attempt to sew. Please help. I've called brother and they say to take it to be serviced. Thanks so much for posting this. You made it so easy for this sewing novice!
Wow. Thanks so much. U just helped my wife out. We appreciate
Thank You
When I step on the foot the needle moves instead, how to I switch it?
When threading the bobbin, make sure the stem at top-right is fully snapped over to the right side, toward the wheel. If necessary, snap the stem back to the left, and then to the right again.
