I heard this song in a honky tonk in Tulsa then I was 19. The girl I was trolling the dance floor with walked off and I just stood there and listened. I had never had a song touch me like that. 20 years later, it still gets me. God bless you Chris. You told a young blue collar boy that he wasn't alone feeling that way.
@@joshuaneubig8721 yes sir. but at least the ones of us who know appreciate him. i literally listen to his music every day. kinda reminds me of the moe bandy song "hank williams you wrote my life". for me its chris knight you wrote my life lol
In 2006, this was our youngest son's profile song on his MySpace account. He ran several ranches in Texas and was a real cowboy. We were introduced to this song, and Chris Knight's music, when our son died, ironically in a gasoline explosion, on August 31, 2006. We reached out to Chris' management at the time to ask if they would see if Chris could dedicate the song to him at a live performance, but were told no. I always thought that was a shame. But we still love this song and Chris' music, 18 years down the road, and we still miss, and love, our son Kieran, buried in McKinney, Texas at age 23, next to the children's cemetery where he can help keep an eye on the young ones since he never had the chance to have any of his own.
This man is one of the best songwriters of his generation. Has me in awe of where all of these "poems" come from? Being from Muhlenberg Co and growing up on the Green River and with coal mining in my life, makes me feel a connection to him as well..... Met him once in Madisonville at an acoustic concert and got his set sheet signed by him.....one of my favorite memories. If you ever read these Chris.... Thank You for adding all of these songs and memories into the soundtrack of my life.
How come we don't hear talent like this on the radio? Had to go all the way to Nashville to learn of Chris. Before and still, don't hear him of your local stations. There is something terribly wrong with this.
You don’t hear the good stuff on the radio anymore because the executives only care about how many units they can sell to 15 year old teenie-bopper girls. They aren’t interested in the art. The little girls want metrosexual boy bands with highlights in their spikey-hair.
Can't believe I got onto Chris Knight so late in the game. "Old Man" came across one of my Pandora stations about a year ago and I've been a fan ever since. This guy is the real deal. We all need singers and songwriters we can believe in.
Some may think this blasphemy, but Guy Clark comes to mind damn near every time I listen to Chris. I think Chris resides right there with legendary songwriters like Mr. Clark, Townes Van Zandt, James McMurtry and so on. Thank you Mr. Knight for the joy your stories bring me.
- this was my father's favorite song, well one of them to be exact bc he loved music so much, so even though my sister didn't want to play it at his funeral with the other songs on the dvd, i made her put this on it. he'd sing it so much. rip danny/dad. always love you and always miss you.
I commend you for knowing him that way. For understanding him and honoring him, even when the people around you disagreed with the way it might look, or sound. Sorry for you loss.
It sure as hell ain’t easy. I’m sick of this shit. This was added 14 years ago. I wouldn’t of understood this then when it came out, but now I can relate to it.
I met Chris twice. Was able to tell him how much his music meant to me. He was so gracious. I will never forget those two concerts. I have seen him 3 other times when I didn't meet him. Thank you Chris for your music!
👍 I find a lot of great and similar artists on a forth worth radio station, 95.9 the ranch. In fact they just played Chris's new song tonight. Bunch of great singer songwriters out there, if you know where to look.
Agreed. He connects with the bad yet human side of so many people that relate to the lyrics in a personal way even if they don't want to because it may confirm what they know the whole time but try to deny. The lyrics to this song , might be his best but, for me, the best song/story has to be Down the River. The emotion and how the story unfolds is fantastic.
If you played this song on a popular country music station everyone's ears would explode because they have been conditioned to think what is played today is "country music."
I, for over what feels like twenty years keep coming back to the classic that will never die. It somehow brings me out of dark thoughts. I dont understand it and I dont question it. I seek Mr Knight and the town of sorryville when my chips are down and being tossed in a wood chipper. Thank you for making this song. Its perfect.
I had the pleasure of meeting him 12 years ago when he was passing through upstate ny. He was invited to play at a local tavern with his bass player, they played a few dozen songs for a bar crowd at the Ale House in Troy NY , he had met the owner of the bar on a flight through Albany , he had a layover for the night so he accepted the invitation and appeared a few hrs later , I was lucky to be eating lunch when I heard of his playing there that evening, talk about being at the right place at the right time., this video along with "Framed " was popular on CMT and GAC music stations at the time, he stood for photos with me afterwards and signed the half dozen cd o had at the time for me @ n/c , we talked about hunting and fishing and of course my admiration for him and the music he brings to the country music world. Nicest artist you'll ever meet. I hope like hell he passes through again.
I've been listening to this since I was about 11 years old. best memories watching my dad drink a couple beers and listen to some chris knight. he's great
Thank you brother for this song. This song helped me stay alive from my last deployment. I told you this in person a couple months ago at a bar north of Dallas and gave you a souvenir of my product that went Viral on the internet. Without this song i probably wouldnt have been able to. Thank you so much and i wish you and your family the best!
I just found out about this guy and finally somebody has picked up the ball Steve Earle dropped in the early 90's and is putting out rich, powerful and masculine country music...the video is killer, too.
I love those Texas songwriters. They all have a distinctive sound and they paint a picture with words. Chris Knight, Steve Earle, and Robert Earl Keen just to name a few.
What's wrong with the world today? This guy should be major big time. Did he piss off the wrong people, or what? is there any justice. What's up with this?

I remember getting introduced to this tune on CMT’s show “Jammin’ Country”. They use to air the kinda stuff you don’t hear on the radio. This is real country music. All the bro-country, hick-hop phonies need to take note.
Might be his best, stellar lyrics!! I still remember the first time I heard it cruising on the Ohio River somewhere between Louisville and Owensboro KY. Lifelong hillbilly anthem!!!

Let's all be thankful there are still people writing songs, not riffs.
This song is over 25 years old you know that right....😂
Chris knight was the man when I was In High school. Where did the time go.

Good story. I see him play the OKC Wormy Dog around 2010 and it was a sausage party.
Chris Knight is def. by far one of the most underrated signers and songwriter of all time hands down
I’ve been saying this for years brother. Hands down deserves more fame and light then given to him. Especially compared to the “country” trash today

Slaughters, Kentucky's favorite son. What a jewel!
I'm comment 556. God bless this man for putting into words what we've all felt and couldn't say no matter how we tried
That’s the beauty of gifted songwriters like Chris, god bless him
Can he get a like for all us rural folks plz. God's country here in eastern Oregon 🙂

The greatest injustice i feel in my life was not discovering Chris till 2018
If you played this song on a popular country music station everyone's ears would explode because they have been conditioned to think what is played today is "country music."
Blake Shelton did a version of this song. Granted, I don't know how popular it got on mainstream stations as I stopped listening to those long ago...
+ShroudedTraveler me either lol

Chris Knight and Wheeler Walker Jr are the last Country Musicians around,
D Chris Stapleton, Jamey Johnson, Eric Church, Stergil Simpson.... Plenty of them.
Iv found this town about 4 years back. I still live here.

Another timeless classic by a true artist. This song is as fresh and real as the first time I heard it.

I love those Texas songwriters. They all have a distinctive sound and they paint a picture with words. Chris Knight, Steve Earle, and Robert Earl Keen just to name a few.
He's from Slaughters Kentucky 😂 Rick Perry (previous governor if Texas) made him an honorary Texan!
