@@jotogoatmany characters have the ability to be top 1 contenders including sol since it's subjective, but sol being considered objectively top 1 is the biggest cope imo. I'm of the personal belief that people only regard him as top 1 because of his damage without taking into account what it takes to obtain said damage. Don't say sol is the best character in the game when Goldlewis and Leo exist. Goldlewis sweeps and its not even close imo. Sol doesn't do the most damage because Goldlewis and Slayer do more damage on average without meter and risc. Sol doesn't have the best neutral because that's Goldlewis, Leo, and Ky, they have better fireballs and fullscreen options. Sol doesn't have the best blockstrings, that's Goldlewis, his BT blockstrings leave you incredibly minus and it's incredibly difficult to challenge, let alone his chipp damage, etc. Sol doesn't have the best corner offense, that's Ram with her swords. Sol isn't the easiest to play, that's Ky and Ram. He requires knowing how to do Kara cancels to do any good damage, plus not having much of any reward off hit without counter hit, as far as I know, no other character besides Faust and Potemkin borderline *requires* Kara cancels as a prerequisite for their damage. I believe everyone's opinions on who's possibly top 1 is valid as long as they have a valid reason for believing that but most of the time whenever someone is saying sol is top 1, it's either because of older versions of strive where he was incredibly broken from launch potentially up to before season 3, or it's because of things like counter hit 5H which would be a semi valid reasoning if it wasn't overlooking what it take to even get that damage as sol and a lot of other S tier characters that have things that are much worse to deal with.

He has a 4f 5p that can be used to anti air, volcanic viper (meterless reversal), the fastest kick in the entire game and tied for the fastest normal in the entire game (an absolutely aids move), an EXTREMELY low profile 2D that can evade some stuff others can’t, night raid vortex (ANOTHER extremely low profile move), a 5f 2k of the gods (fastest 2k in the game), and other things I may have forgotten. His conversions also let him get positive bonus way easier than other characters. The added privilege of a 100 damage untechable command also adds to his insane strike throw. He’s also much more burst-safe than Goldlewis, with many of his moves being able to be cancelled extremely easily, such as moves like 5k (essential combo tool) and j.h (essential combo tool, zero recovery frames). Sol does not do nearly as much chip on blockstrings as Goldlewis, but it’s much more frightening because Goldlewis effectively distances himself with his behemoth typhoons and eventually has to rely on RC, but Sol is much more frightening because he is always completely in your face and WILL one shot you off of the insane risc he builds and because his f.s is so cracked, FD’ing will send you to hell. Leo also is close to Sol, but Sol is definitely better. Leo struggles with the fact that most of his moves are slower than average, he has essentially no good air moves, his heavy projectile is unusable in half of his matchups, and he is considerably worse at dealing with zoning from characters like Axl. Sol, however, doesn’t have any of these weaknesses, or not to the level that Leo does; sol literally has no losing matchups besides Goldlewis (arguably). Bringing slayer into this conversation is already not very smart because his defense is absolutely terrible and. Ram also isn’t the easiest to play, that’s Ky, Slayer, and Sin. Sol is better than Leo and Goldlewis because those two have actual existent problems, while Sol’s LITERAL only problem is that he doesn’t have a fullscreen projectile. Leo has issues I explained above, and Goldlewis STRUGGLES on defense.
Bringing up the concept of neutral with sol is also really dumb. Goldlewis has a straight neutral skip and it’s unfair (we know this), but Sol also has multiple, which includes things like vortex (this is risky) and bandit bringer/revolver. His 2s is an extremely good neutral tool with its range and disjoint, his 6s has BIG range, and those effectively can do neutral for you. You’re in the air? You have zero bad air moves as they’re all cracked as hell. Sol’s execution might be harder than Ky, but he gets literally every single tool in the box, some that even Ky doesn’t have. He’s top 1 solidly, and it’s not close currently imo.
Retraction in this situation is focused on startup, and not recovery. Looking at how 5k's lowcrush/midcrush compared to the cast. No retracting is bad. It means your hurtbox isn't being reduced/pulled back during the startup and therefore you arent crushing other moves like 2k's or 2s's. Retraction makes it harder to stuff out the button due to reducing hurtbox size.
