I really like your channel because you do honnest reviews, it's not common people not trying to convince to buy/not to buy but expressing feeling like you do. (Also like your channel because we share the same amount of crazyness in sim hardware buying too many things ^^). Thanks for all of that 👍
thanks Mark for sharing the experience, it is appreciated. I've been on the fence about the aero as an enthusiast flight simmer. the aero fov and audio solution has kept me at bay. I've been trialing the quest pro as of late (graduating from the index), and it's fantastic, however I'll be returning it due to comfort issues and a terrible audio solution. the index had set the bar for me in terms of being well rounded for it's time. I'll be keeping my eye out for what valve and varjo next generation systems put out next. respectfully ~mike
I've read comments from people who say the Quest Pro dug into their foreheads, but I've not touched one to comment personally. I don't think the Aero FOV is a deal breaker, It is working well for me in flight and driving sims. I actually think it is more of an issue for room scale games. There is also a bit of a motion blur artifact that I notice in some titles but not others. I think you tend to get used to it. I know I'm noticing it less over time and it may be related to why the Aero handles lower fps so smoothly. I'm getting comfortable with the IEM's, but it is more work. For room scale, I'm finding that I cinch up the choke ring that holds the IEM wires together under my chin, but then I have some wire that can get snagged by my Index controllers. So I have been taking the slack headphone wire and dropping it inside the back of my shirt. So far that has been working well for me. For sims I leave it long and then I can take my Aero off and put it on the hangar on the side of my rig with my IEM's still in my ears. But yes, the Index is very well done and now I'm hearing the next Index may also have 10bit video and HDR. It just keeps sounding better, but there is also no telling when it will drop. If you can wait, you are almost always better off, but if you are impatient, I think the Aero is the headset to have for now.
I wasn't expecting a response but it is appreciated. I most certainly can and will wait for what comes out next. For me the audio solution is just as important as the headset so that needs to be up to par. I know it may not seem much for most people but for me that is sort of a deal breaker, and most certainly must be comfortable for extended periods of time. Lastly the one thing that is a major counter in terms of VR is the lack of being able to see your surroundings or other peripherals that you may have that you need to interact with and don't have the best muscle memory. The quest pro does have something like that but it is most certainly lackluster.
Thank you for sharing your insights. Please consider a video posting your settings. (For me, MSFS specifically, but others may benefit from others.). I’ve just moved to a new Aero on a new 4090/13900KS and only seeing about 40ish FPS in MSFS. Very happy with that as this is the first time I’ve been able to play with settings, for the most part, at max or just below it and 39PPD. Very pleased with my results but always looking to improve when I can.
Keep in mind setting 39ppd gives you 35ppd for non-Varjo sdk software. I've not run MSFS at 35ppd yet. Mostly iRacing, Half Life Alyx ( just wow! ) So I was only running MSFS at 27ppd. Are you on the Varjo discord server yet? It is looking like the new predictive Motion smoothing will allow locking to 30fps in MSFS with 35ppd and still gives a very smooth experience.
I wasn’t aware of the discord, but just saw a vid on the motion reprojection. I just received the Aero and desktop this weekend so haven’t dug too extensively into it. I was too eager just to get in the air. I did see the option to lock to 30/45/Auto in the Base software, but wasn’t sure how it was applied. I moved up from a G2 and while it is difficult to recommend to someone to buy a $2k headset, oh how really good it is. Just fantastic to be able to read the entire cockpit from the pilot seat with no custom views. I also saw that Conquest Pro has, or is coming out with a black version of the clip on headphones that I’m considering. If there was an off-ear version available, a la G2 or Index, I’d be first in line. Thanks for the response and the content!
@@michaelhuyer1479 I am using the same. Again, I’m really pleased with my results, I just want to improve them if others are doing something different. MSFS only needs about 33-35 FPS to be reasonably smooth as it is. Im getting 38-44 near ground (and at street level through Manhattan stress testing), and about 50ish at cruise altitude. All with about 90% of my setting on ultra, but always looking to make room to up some other settings….
I'm seeing that someone has used OpenXR toolbox to Override the resolution and set it to 2904x2489 and then set super sampling to 130% in ACC allowing them to get close to 90fps. So my comments about ACC are already suspect. What is possible is obviously in a state of flux and the creativeness of individuals should not be underestimated.
wanted to ask do you wear glasses in this headset. I run an 8kx and even with that massive field view it's hard to use on a lot of games you lose performance and get big frame hits.
I wear contacts in VR. I also waited until getting a 4090 before buying an Aero to make sure I could adequately drive it and even I saw major performance improvements when I set up native DFR in DCS and tweaked the settings in iRacing.
The boom mic is a Kimera Gramr It comes it to standards to fit a number of IEMs. www.amazon.com/dp/B0B8SRXPWV I have a video showing how the boom mic sounds. ruclips.net/video/cqYwdEPYsco/видео.html&ab_channel=MarkKovalcson
I showed a couple IEM's. ( I want to point out that I am not a expert on IEM's. ) The one I'm using is a bit expensive. It's a Sure 846 Gen2 with red filters. It's highly efficient and the Aero drives it well. A less expensive model that I started with was a Sure 215 for about $99. It's pretty efficient and has decent bass. Once I decided I would prefer IEM's to over the ear headphones I wanted more high end solution. For most sims it won't matter.
The only thing I like about mine is the clarity. I dont like the fov, I hate the binocular overlap, the sound is nonexistent, and the blacks are terrible.
I would say clarity, build quality, comfort, OpenXR and native DCS support. The native DCS support gives it a huge improvement in performance for that title. However, yes, I would love an audio solution, as long as it is as good as the Valve Index off ear speakers, otherwise I would end up bypassing it. I would like more FOV. The others fit into nice to have territory to me. It looks like the next Valve headset will have OLED displays and of course excellent audio, solid build quality, and I can only assume will address the other issues as well. I'm expecting to use my Aero until that arrives. As I said in my video I got impatient waiting for the next Index and I will use this in the meantime.
A Noctua NH-DS15 keeps my i9-13900K very cool. The large Fractal Torrent shares some credit for keeping things cool as a known very well ventilated case.
Nice video, I actually just ordered the Aero and will be running it with a 4090/7950x3D (currently using the G2). Can you share your DCS and MSFS settings please?

Hi,i use Eyetracking in the Varjo Aero with Open XR Toolkit in FS2020 to improve the Performance in VR for extra FPS
