@@jandearlivinglife4433 I've been driving a 13 speed and been learning on my own. Basically it's like an 18. But I'll give the speeds per gear from the 13 that I drive. Gears 1-2 are only starting gears or gears where you lost so much speed you about to stop or roll back. 3rd gear is lowest practical gear where you creeping onto a scale or sum. 3rd is 5 mph. 4th gear is 10 to 12 mph. 5th Low is 15 mph and 5 High going to 25 mph more practical around 18. 6th low is 25 mph at low rpms. 6th High goes to 35. 7th low is 35 to 45 and 7th high is around 45 to 50 mph. Right hand turns are should be the same as in a 18 speed. So clutch and brake and drop here in 4th gear or 5th low. I only ever use 5th high if I didn't catch the gear and it's a slight dip where speed increases. If you making a left turn, 5th L or H should match your speed.
@@andrewterra4938 thank you , I do a driving test tomorrow for 18 speed I am a bit nervous as I have never done splitting gears but I think after watching a lot of videos on here I understand more .
Thank you for this training video. It really helped me figure out how to shift an 18 speed transmission. Your video is much better than other videos I watched on RUclips. Keep on Trucking and have a fantastic day 🙂.
I've been driving for 41 yrs now and 13sp is high as I ever wanted..I've drove 5sp, 9, 10, 12, & 13.. My favorite has been the 9 speed...Couple yrs ago bossman bought automatics or auto shift/ultra shift, whatever there called.. Definitely gotten to like it pretty good, great fuel mileage...Great video. Sure there is newcomers wanting to know...
Nice.. been hauling 80tons up to 100tons for 2 years now.. would love to have eaton transmission over here.. all we got is china 16speed truck with max usage of 5years lifespan..
So that's how it's done. Well ok then. I've only driven 10 speed but I'm going to look at a truck that's got an 18, this certainly answers my questions. Thanks lol
Great video! For a while I was drivin a 96 westernstar that had a 3406 cat w/ 15 speed eaton. This nice thing about the 15 is for me (Canadian grain hauler) spilling the bottom end makes stop and go traffic easy with 43 metric ton in the box
This is so cool. Like when I was little I went with my dad on trips. When I turned 10 he taught me. At 12 he let me haul about 30 ton across the state line. Hey I didnt say it was legal. I said he let me lol. So that's how I learned 18. This brings back memories. Him and i haven't been on a route in a looooong time
I use to Drive a 10 speed. I loves it. 5 on the floor like a regular stick but with a switch under shifter. Down for low up for high. In city I usually didn't come out of 4th. I loved how on 3rd low then go high she took off. Even towing heavy equipment. I used cluck to engage my gears . I miss driving that truck sometimes. It was a old truck I had to figure out how to drive it with minimal training. Oh the memories.
I'm only halfway through the video and this is a big help to me. I drive currently a super 10 which isn't necessarily splitting gears but, if you want to say it's like a five-speed pattern and you have to split every gear to get to tenth gear. So this is very similar to that except for the high low switch in the 18 speed. Very nice video I appreciate it.
This is a real great video KC, thanks a lot. I am going for a garbage hauling job where I’ll be pulling 100,000 plus in an 18 spd and yours is BY FAR the best video I’ve seen. All the best and God bless!
Thank god a normal gear stick .not a pimp stick or wanker stick .thank you buddy be safe out there .hi from brit man in austrailia thank you i do know how to shift most stick shifts but its good to watch
Learning to tow with a 18-speed this helps a lot thank you...so u don't need to switch from low to high if ur not hauling anything just treat it as a 10 speed but if ur hauling switch low to high when in high gear
I've only ever used 10 speeds. Rode with a guy who had 18 . He hit 85mph then shifted into 18th and kept digging. The needle stayed on 85mph. Even coasting up small inclines it still stayed on 85mph. Loved it
Driven a 10 but hopefully going to a company that only has 18 speeds. I’ve watched all the videos but your was by far the most informative. One thing all the videos forget to teach that is important for rookies learning to drive a manual is knowing the rpms and road speed. One thing I can’t find but I will learn when I’m out there is when down shifting or skipping gears you need to know what speeds will work with such gears. Anyway great video be safe driver!
@@Thecremeanbrothers you're right! When i was doing some on the job training.. i drove about 5 different trucks.. 10spd btw.. they all shifted at different rpms..
Great video for the most part another thing ive done is slow the truck down a little before giving it throttle to down shift the splitter it wolnt grind when you do that I've also done the same pull it out and back in method, I believe in not grinding the gear saves your transmission
It's a old school technique but works good once you figure it out just feather the brake slow down easy on the throttle down shift goes in smooth most times
Awesome chif thank you for share great knowledge it looks easy but all it's about practice of course my respect .. sometimes I drive 13 and is a mess but like I said all it's about practice thank you
Really cool seeing this! I've been learning how to drive trucks with 13 speeds, and didn't realize these are basically the same. Only difference being that you can split the lower range. It's still weird to think though you can go through ten gears without even getting to the high range yet.
I am planning to buy an 18 speed in the future Right now I drive a 10 speed I haul heavy loads Grain; soy beans and corn Gross weight 88,000 lbs I drove 18 speeds before but not for too long Actually I thought I was driving a 13 speed but it turned out to be an 18 speed I wanted to get a refresh on the 18 speed Thanks I like the way you explain it
Though it it's a good demonstration and everything he says is correct, It is much easier said than done. Wrangling 18 speed truck transmissions is very difficult for beginners......I know!
I grew up around trucks I was a teenager I was 18 19 I rode with my uncle in my cousin driving their trucks they had 13 speeds and I know I learned how to do it you can learn the pattern and it's the same pattern every time and it's easy to learn
I know shifting with a splitter is easy but I don't like that I like shifting it like a five and a four and a five and three sits in a four I don't like them splitters that's why I like nine speed they don't have a splitter
Good luck my advice is stick with it when it gets tough cuz it will get better and never settle always strive to make more money and get experience pulling and hauling everything.
I already know how to ride an 18spd, but my problem is i havent driven one in like 3 years and i got to get back in one, so yea these little touch up reminders help, love it that he did it on a regular stick not a tall fucking idiot one,
The 6th gear position on a 10 speed is not commonly used by many on an 18 speed bc it mimics the 5th gear position gear ratio (or the 9/10 position on an 18spd.)though it is usable and I like to use it when I’m making some rolling side road turns(treats the 18 like a 20spd, you might say). I like using it bc It keeps me from having to make the long throw to low range 9/10 and I can immediately accelerate and stay in high range w/o the long throw motion back up to 11/12 when I’m accelerating and best in those situations where it’s a little uphill and you might be considering going briefly into low range. When shifting down to the low splitter thumb button position stab the throttle at the same time to increase the rpm’s and she’ll sync in smooth. I was told but not certain that preselecting high and low range before you shift is fine bc it’s air actuated but, what you don’t want to do is pre-select the splitter for longer periods or, try and at least time the split about the exact same time as you’re working the throttle for that shift...don’t let it hold for long. That’s because the splitter unlike the high/range is actuated by an electrical solenoid and it is or can heat up as it is working under electrical current load waiting until you actually apply throttle to release that gear to go to your intended gear. Makes a lot of sense but these are just my 2 cents worth and I don’t ever hear these things addressed in videos much that I’ve seen is why I bring it up. It may be bc it’s a little advanced instruction that one doesn’t have to know and could sound confusing to new drivers viewing this for just the basic operation. What are your thoughts? Also, I wonder how many other drivers like myself like to use their left foot on the brake a little at the same time as they are gearing down while feathering the throttle with their R. foot in order to keep the drive train more stable allowing for smoother, less driveline lash and presumably saving wear and tear on U-joints and other driveline components thru the tendency of load shifting gyrations incurred in the downshifting process?
A better comparison of transmissions would be to a 9 speed than a 13 speed. 9 and 18 speeds have the same pattern but you're splitting every gear an 18 speed.
Helpful and educational but am confused about the so-called "splitter" or was it the "Hi-Lo Range" he referenced. Is that a lever, button or what? Couldn't see it but thought he said something about it being located on the front side of the shift lever. Would've been helpful to see what he was doing on the front side of the shift lever when shifting gears and doing the so-called splitting and transfering from Lo range to Hi range.
It actually has what they call a 9sp pattern(10 and 15 re use the "Lo" postion once switched to the high side) A 18 will drive just like a 9 spd using just the high/low splitter. Where the 13 and 18 differ is as he said. You can only split the "high" side on a 13((5 lower, 4 upper x2(each gear is split) =13) ) and 18(5 Lower x2 +4 upper x2)
What if u pull out of gear with the splitter in high (forget to put the splitter back to low before making your shift)? I hate when ppl suddenly break infront of me. Catching the right gear after a sudden unexpected stop can be a PITA some times (in a 10 speed). Now having to throw a splitter in the mix during a situation like this, sounds like even more havoc.
You are the only one I found that tells exactly how to shift it some people say that you can skip gears but that's not showing you how you said that you could skip gears but you showed how to exactly shift 18 years and some people are saying reverse is a forward gear it's part of the 18 years but it's not I know how to shift it and I just wanted to find somebody that will show me exactly how to do it
Super ten is the best box, these are not really needed is just a mess if you ask me confusion you don't need that many gears, super 10 is the best easiest box,and you are not a better driver for shifting more, good video..

Is it to use double crutch
good bro👌❤
Super ten is the best box, these are not really needed is just a mess if you ask me confusion you don't need that many gears, super 10 is the best easiest box,and you are not a better driver for shifting more, good video..
