I will attest to the 8.8 strength, especially with aftermarket axles. Several years ago, I pushed 607.5 HP through one and it did not break with abuse, and wheelies.
Looking to do this to my 63’ Fairlane. Seems like not much is different. I bought my son his first car, Foxbody 89’! You’ll hear questions coming from me soon lol
I have a fairlane 500 wagon on my hoist right now. Drove it here yesterday and I already have the old engine and trans out and it's new 5.0 HO mustang engine sitting in the engine bay on the mounts. Bolts right in! I was wondering about the rear end and I think ill be doing what you did with yours... Thanks for the great information!!!
We’ll get the rear end cut it down and call Calvert racing and get there mono leaf set up for the car. Grab the rear u joint flange from the truck you got the rear one from or call a drive line shop they can supply you with one. Make sure you have a 1 1/8 brake master cylinder if doing rear brakes
@Carburetor Cowboy - Nice work and helpful info. What is the backspacing dimension on those 9" wheels? Would you keep the same backspacing with a 10" wheel?
great video. i am doing a 65 fairlane and working away bit by bit. i am not sure what gearing is in my rear end and have not taken it apart but i think the idea of swapping the whole unit out is the way to go. my question is in regards to the single leaf spring, can you tell me where you got them and what they look like. i have the original springs and they are ugly. would appreciate any direction thank you
They are mono leaf and there from Calvert racing. It’s a ez install bolt in. The only thing make sure to tell them you need the front hanger to fit the car
the thing I love about these cars is how light they are there like 2900 to 3100 pounds
Very nice video.... thanks for posting

Thanks . I was just talking about this earlier today.
Do have a video of the install
Fantastic.
I’d love to get a full list of parts for this upgrade. I have a 1964 four door and it’s time for some upgrades!

Yes it would be awesome if the OP would take the time and answer your question. I would also like to know.
The backspacing on the 10 inch rim would be 5 inches
What drive shaft are you using? And which conversion joint do I need? I’m using a toploader 4 speed with the 8.8 I plan on installing. Thank

What u-joint and flange did you use
The stock one from the explorer
What about 8.8 from a mustang?
You could, but you would have to narrow both sides. This is much easier process.
