Sometimes I go looking for materials as my entire day of play; it's best to do so in places where there is something Extra on the drop list, in my opinion, such as Craglorn (Nirncrux), Vvardenfel, etc. I do that because it's relaxing. I don't think it's optimal for gold per hour, but I enjoy it and I always like to know good places with useful rare drops. It's similar to the days I enjoyed fishing in Summerset; bottles are good, roe is good, both is better, it's not worth doing because it's optimal, but sometimes it's just soothing to listen to the running water.

That is very true. I mean, of course, that isn't the most time efficient thing to do, but you are absolutely right, and not everything that you do on ESO has to be or should be about time-efficiency. I'm a fan of just taking it easy and relaxing on ESO myself :)
I know this is an older video, but i appreciate this very much still relevant content. I mostly stopped playing for a couple years and never really got into the crafting and gold making aspect of things until recently (i decided to enjoy the tycoon side), and these types of videos have really opened my perspective up to how activities and time spent in game translate into gains. Thanks for taking the time to do these kinds of tests. I think theyre very helpful and give a concrete way to show some better methods of indirectly getting what you want
What angers me the most is getting to chests and only having lockpicks in them, or thieves troves with only junk in them, they picked what they wanted and left the rest

I made my first bits of gold in ESO by farming random mats in Stros M'Kai for hours and hours on end, so I'm glad you're out here telling people that that grindy shit is not necessary. Nowadays at most I'll occasionally take a few survey writs from the bank, put on a podcast and start farming, which I've found to be pretty rewarding still, especially when it comes to those juicy jewelry surveys. Anyway great job Truffle on being the true star of this video!
I have so many mats from side gathering. On my main, since I have so many other characters, I stripped them of all their combat ability and dumped all points into crafting/antiquities, with only one offensive skill entirely for self defense. Max speed in the green cp tree, double node gathering, 50% faster node gathering. Whenever I do antiquities, I gather everything I see. I only craft for writs, I have thousands of materials Tldr: make gathering a passive thing you do when doing something else and get everything you see instead of actually designating time to gathering alone
ERP: Economic resource pooling. You know, you pick someone very special, and the pair of you share your crafting mats so that you're each far more likely to have what you need to make stuff.

I agree! And I’m the same way - writs and surveys, while they may not be the most exciting activities, are among some of the best, most accessible, and most reliable ways to earn gold in this game!
I would say I do my surveys but the couple of thousand I have would disagree. At this stage on my main account at least I wait until I have at least 25 of a given one, or until I get under 10k of the refined material. I am way too lazy to do them everyday. My secondary I wait until I get the free trial for sub for the craft bag (I do not do writs of BS, WW or clothing on those in general even though they are all master at them).
@@angelicalynn1259 I do all 7 daily writs on 13 characters. I then use my farming only character to hunt down all surveys once per week. I usually have between 60-75, and it takes me about 3 hours. Of course I farm mats between the surveys too. This is the only material farming I ever do. On an average week, my survey haul will net me between 600k-1 mil gold in excess mats.
I recognize that Bethnik route you are taking. Right now because of the winter event, I get a lot of crafting writs so I am farming like hell to get Hearthwood, and Bethnik is paradise to me in that regard. For this particular farm you can just focus on he wood however, since there are so many lumber spawns in this area, that you don't need to harvest other resources for lumber to respawn. And Heartwood sells around 2000 gold each on EU servers atm, so picking up everything else is just a waste of time in my opinion. I only pick up the occasional Corn Flower if I see them. If I am farming to sell everything, however, I totally agree with picking up all spawns to spawn more Corn Flowers etc... So it depends on what you are trying to farm. If you are looking for Heartwood in particular, just focusing on it can give a good yield when RNG gods smile on you. Heck, I even managed to get an Aethereal Dust from a log the other day. Basically died from happiness, since I've only been playing since july this year or so.
Very logical. I love farming nodes, all nodes, also chests, surveys, leads, even treasure maps and psijic portals. Invariably, I see the people you mentioned searching only for Platinum. I chuckle as I pick up the Columbine and Corn Flower they trampled on their way to the seam. Really enjoy your posts.

What I hope to accomplish, instead, is make it so that you can come to realize what items are in demand on your own! That is what this channel aims to teach. There is a lot of talk about popular items on my discord server as well, and I aim to make quarter guides (whenever a new patch drops) that explains what items will experience a surge in demand in light of meta changes! My guild mates are always asking where I got the mats to have duplicate sets of golded out gear including jewelry and it’s because I make a ton of gold just playing the game. Craft while waiting on DF queue, murder all the things while collecting all the nodes until queue pops and then sell all the things that’s aren’t purple. Break down all the purple things for mats, sell the mats below trading value to flippers, rinse and repeat. I’ve got a couple loops to run while waiting for extended queues full of heavy sacks, treasure chests and thieves troves as well. But for sure killing all the things and selling all the drops makes me more gold than I will even need.

Never seen one of your vids before but you're very informative (particularly explaining opportunity costs within the game). Funny how TTC has about 1300 pages of Witches Festival Writ listings, the market is completely saturated, and they're still so expensive during the event. Willing to bet prices tank at the end of the 30 day listing cycle and then pick back up again around Q2 next year. There's just so many single voucher listings!
regarding the motifs, you forgot the moster helm mask style pages, those always sell for a hugh amount, specially the new ones... I dont think alot of ppl know how to get them, butr as always really nice and true information. I save all my surveys from my writs and then do a massive farm (I am such a lazy farmer LMAO)

Yeah, I remember when starting out, trying to do writs, and not having the mats, wanting to farm mats. Unfortunately at that level (1 char level 5-20 range) one typically doesn't have either money to buy some of the mats, knowlegde about farming (beyond the quest to start doing writs which it would appear nodes are static based on the quest and we should be able to just go farm at specific nodes for the specific item we'd want based on those observations) or being in a Trader guild (or even a guild at all) at that point. These are typically the people that are asking the exact question you're trying to answer, but are targeting the more vet player with your answer. It would be good to talk to the noob as well.
I’m well aware, which is why I explicitly mentioned that not everyone is capable of running vDLC dungeons nor does everyone have the knowledge or resources to flip items, which is why I stated that farming nodes in a node dense location is also a much better farming strategy.

Wonderful video. From my experience the best ways to make gold... #1 flip items - nothing else even comes close especially if you join a capital city trader guild BUT if you don't want to do that... #2 farm zone dailies in The Reach, Summerset, Northern Elsweyr, Clockwork City and sell the style mats and motifs (there's almost always people around to help even if you have to wait) BUT if you don't want to interact with people at all... #3 farm public dungeons - good examples are Crimson Cove, Orcrest/Rimmen Necropolis - collect gold from enemies and by vendoring all the trash Just my opinion that 4-person dungeons are not worth the time if your primary goal is making gold; your random team plus RNG can suck.

Totally agree with this. People don’t understand the power of passive gold grinding. I have 3 mules loaded with sellables from this, 4 trade guilds that are mostly full all the time. When they’re not full it’s due to laziness.

4:30 So true. First time I did my 500k was farming mudcrabs in Strom'Mkai for decorative wax but I also farmed every single rubedite ore I saw in the corners of the beach 'cause guess what? Everytime I ended with a extra temporing alloy from refinement that was an extra 9k !!

Sidenote: crafting surveys, eventually stack up if you do writs, so if you have a stack of 20 of the same alchemy survey, that's a good way to get mat nodes (meaning even if people didn't farm much, the mats would still not run out).
Best way is gold farming by scrying and excavate in Artaeum you can get like a 90k till 120k goldan hour by aiming for only green and blue stuff... and use the gold to buy stuff you actually need or want.
crafting material farming is definitely a different beast in ESO. the reason people are asking where is best to find certain materials is because in literally every other game everything has a set spawn location, where ONLY that material spawns.. in ESO the only thing guaranteed is that a node exists, but not what that node is going to be when it spawns. So when people ask, they are genuinely just ignorant of how it works in this game. the spawn behavior is rather unique to ESO.
Hey, the real secret is imperial city. 500 tel var = 1 herb satchel that's 18 alchemical ingredients with the chance to drop up to 9 of the same kind of ingredients. Average cost of regular drops is about 150g, and they have a chance to drop clam gall mother of pearl vile coagulant etc, making their average more like 200 gold per ingredient. 18 x 200 = 3600 and so that makes the worth of tel var something like 7 to 1 compared to gold. Group of 3 in the city pulls well over 30k an hour if they bank often enough.
It bugs me that I can’t get a good farming routine down - but I have the story that’ll let me get into Blackreach. I’m frustrated because I wanna get the Coldharbour Surreal Estate and currently have no way to figure out how to get a good abundance of gold. I’ve gotten back into my writs lately and that helps some, but it only works a little bit. Still been having fun though. 🙂

Im early in game and im just trying to level up blacksmithing before doing any hardcore stuff. I still have difficulty finding the main quests cause they always taking me to different boats to go to another location.
I always farm for everything, not just a specific item. When I go to Craglorn to possibly get some Nirncrux I don't just hit the nodes that spawn Nirncrux. I never understood why people pass up other nodes. Some days the Nirncrux doesn't drop and if you skip other nodes, you get nothing for all your time spent. I might not get Nirncrux but I get some Kuta instead.

simple guide right here: do the 7 daily writs on one char, easy 5100 g per day(with ESO+) in less then 2 min.I have 36 chars(2 accounts ) atm all max level 50 in crafting for each profession, but honestly you don't really need to level everything up and you don't need to use max crafting mats but I do since I swim in them...up to you, so that's means 183600 raw gold per day ! I have over 200 k of each materials(Rubedite Ingot, Platinum Ounce, etc ) in the crafting bag. If I don't have something I just go buy it. It's boring stuff but those dailies take less then 2 hours daily. The only harvesting I'm doing, each couple of months, for 1 or 2 days, is the surveys maps since I can harvest from the same location 50 or even more times. The only investment you need is to buy the character slots, preferably when there is a sale and ESO+. P.S. You'll get tones of tempers and chromium plating each week which I sale about a half, that means a couple of million gold only from guild traders weekly.

I have 12 characters at max first crafting passive- logging to do writs alone nets me 250k to 400k in gold mats to sale in 40 mins! It’s boring to keep logging in but it pays! If you are lucky you get a chromium plating drop on a character = 200k gold
Personally,I dont need a technique to farm mats in ESO.I know where to find them and have a set route to run through in each DLC.I have begun making millions now that I know what sell and what doesnt. I have several hours to just wander through my areas and e njoy farming along with doing a few easy quick quests. Great video for those who need help though. :}

#1 flip items - nothing else even comes close especially if you join a capital city trader guild
BUT if you don't want to do that...
#2 farm zone dailies in The Reach, Summerset, Northern Elsweyr, Clockwork City and sell the style mats and motifs (there's almost always people around to help even if you have to wait)
BUT if you don't want to interact with people at all...
#3 farm public dungeons - good examples are Crimson Cove, Orcrest/Rimmen Necropolis - collect gold from enemies and by vendoring all the trash
Just my opinion that 4-person dungeons are not worth the time if your primary goal is making gold; your random team plus RNG can suck.

Totally agree with this. People don’t understand the power of passive gold grinding. I have 3 mules loaded with sellables from this, 4 trade guilds that are mostly full all the time. When they’re not full it’s due to laziness.

Sidenote: crafting surveys, eventually stack up if you do writs, so if you have a stack of 20 of the same alchemy survey, that's a good way to get mat nodes (meaning even if people didn't farm much, the mats would still not run out).
Best way is gold farming by scrying and excavate in Artaeum you can get like a 90k till 120k goldan hour by aiming for only green and blue stuff... and use the gold to buy stuff you actually need or want.
crafting material farming is definitely a different beast in ESO. the reason people are asking where is best to find certain materials is because in literally every other game everything has a set spawn location, where ONLY that material spawns.. in ESO the only thing guaranteed is that a node exists, but not what that node is going to be when it spawns. So when people ask, they are genuinely just ignorant of how it works in this game. the spawn behavior is rather unique to ESO.

Hey, the real secret is imperial city. 500 tel var = 1 herb satchel that's 18 alchemical ingredients with the chance to drop up to 9 of the same kind of ingredients. Average cost of regular drops is about 150g, and they have a chance to drop clam gall mother of pearl vile coagulant etc, making their average more like 200 gold per ingredient. 18 x 200 = 3600 and so that makes the worth of tel var something like 7 to 1 compared to gold. Group of 3 in the city pulls well over 30k an hour if they bank often enough.
Pvp is definitely a very profitable endeavour! But not everyone enjoys pvp or is good enough to stay alive!
It bugs me that I can’t get a good farming routine down - but I have the story that’ll let me get into Blackreach. I’m frustrated because I wanna get the Coldharbour Surreal Estate and currently have no way to figure out how to get a good abundance of gold. I’ve gotten back into my writs lately and that helps some, but it only works a little bit. Still been having fun though. 🙂

I always farm for everything, not just a specific item. When I go to Craglorn to possibly get some Nirncrux I don't just hit the nodes that spawn Nirncrux. I never understood why people pass up other nodes. Some days the Nirncrux doesn't drop and if you skip other nodes, you get nothing for all your time spent. I might not get Nirncrux but I get some Kuta instead.

Not a big fan of item flipping, but I did farm a few hours for a couple of days on Telvanni event and the gold and mat is gonna cover me for a while
simple guide right here: do the 7 daily writs on one char, easy 5100 g per day(with ESO+) in less then 2 min.I have 36 chars(2 accounts ) atm all max level 50 in crafting for each profession, but honestly you don't really need to level everything up and you don't need to use max crafting mats but I do since I swim in them...up to you, so that's means 183600 raw gold per day ! I have over 200 k of each materials(Rubedite Ingot, Platinum Ounce, etc ) in the crafting bag. If I don't have something I just go buy it. It's boring stuff but those dailies take less then 2 hours daily. The only harvesting I'm doing, each couple of months, for 1 or 2 days, is the surveys maps since I can harvest from the same location 50 or even more times.
The only investment you need is to buy the character slots, preferably when there is a sale and ESO+.
P.S. You'll get tones of tempers and chromium plating each week which I sale about a half, that means a couple of million gold only from guild traders weekly.
Yep! Doing writs is another far more reliable and financially rewarding means to make gold!

I have 12 characters at max first crafting passive- logging to do writs alone nets me 250k to 400k in gold mats to sale in 40 mins! It’s boring to keep logging in but it pays! If you are lucky you get a chromium plating drop on a character = 200k gold

Personally,I dont need a technique to farm mats in ESO.I know where to find them and have a set route to run through in each DLC.I have begun making millions now that I know what sell and what doesnt. I have several hours to just wander through my areas and e njoy farming along with doing a few easy quick quests. Great video for those who need help though. :}
