In washington we are allowed to harvest up to 15 spiny dogfish a day because it has a very stable population and not many people view them as a desirable catch. I was wondering how to use the fins so nothing went to waste thanks for the recipe.
The sharks are captured, brought onto the boats, have their fins cut off and thrown back into the water to bleed out and drown to death. The practice and "tradition" is cruel.

Wow I’m so surprised and shocked that it’s actually shark fin… I always order this in restaurants and I had no idea it was really shark fin and I had no idea how it’s done to get it. Thanks for the insight and now I know I will not order that again unless it’s an imitation or I make my own version

Looks good but it’s seriously not worth it for the damage it causes to our oceans.
No not really. Sharks were at risk of being an endangered species because they were killed on mass after movies like jaws painted a bad picture, but the population has been blooming since the 90's. And like any fish if harvested responsibly and in a sustainable fashion they will be fine. Legally where I live the spiny dogfish (its a shark not a fish despite the name) is actually so abundant you can legally harvest up to 15 a day because they effect the population of key food fish for other species so it would be irresponsible to throw them back.

It’s unanimously agreed by marine life experts that it’s a miracle that sharks have managed to survive to modern day. Ever heard of illegal fishing or how difficult sharks are to manage by country’s over how much they travel or how many are caught and killed on accident by commercial fishing nets? Shark pregnancy is over a period of 9-12 months so how smart do you think it is to kill 15 in one day?
@@mut1565 you do realize shark is a family not s species right? There's alot of different kinds of shark and they all have different population levels and gestation periods. For instance they are so overpopulated here they effect the salmon population. Which is a keystone species here if they die off the sea otters die the seals die the sea lions die. We have and orca population here that only eats salmon... A lot of things will die lol is it smart to keep the population that high because you don't realize a local population is different from a migratory population? Is it fair to destroy the ecosystem because your uneducated?
I wont say that the chinese industry hasn't had an effect considering they kill sharks in mass for the fins alone. But that doesn't mean its a problem for everywhere.
Its amazing that you will reference "marine life experts" seemingly without actually studying the truth or researching local exceptions because the population has increased... They arent endangered anymore (especially depending on location) because they arent only a annoying here they are effecting the ecosystem with overpopulation.
