Every time I watch a "Made With Lau" video, I think about how awesome it is that you are capturing your father's specialized knowledge and sharing it with posterity, and that you are working so closely with your family to take your father's business (where he worked so hard for his family) into a new business model. Also, despite my not understanding any Chinese dialects, your father's skill as a teacher is so natural. You all rock!! p.s. Also everything is delicious!
Thank you so much for the kind words! It really means a lot to us and I couldn’t agree more. We’re so grateful that my dad is willing to share his knowledge with the world!
I had a fantasy that I would learn how to cook my favourite Chinese dishes by a nice wise man with lots of restaurant experience! Fantasy come true! I love it! Thanks Lau and family!
I have been watching for a while and I realized this time I never thanked you for the time and skill you took and have to make this video. Thank you so much for your time ( not only the time to make and edit the video but also the time to perfect the cooking techniques you graciously share with us). Thank you for so generously using your skills to help other cooks. Be well.
This has to be one of my most favourite and comforting soups. Your videos are not only wonderful in teaching us how to cook but your dad's enthusiasm is an absolute joy to watch. It's a cold day down here in Western Australia and this recipe is perfect. Thank you for bringing a smile, and happy tummies, today
As a lifelong cook it's nice to have someone casually 'demystifying' these cooking techniques. And while I don't understand Cantonese much, it's great there are comprehensive subtitles. Thank you... M'goi Sai!
i only started making chinese food recently from memory. due to covid and missing seeing my parents as much as before pandemic! this is such a treasure ! thank you!
I probably haven't been watching you channel as some folks, but your original egg drop video is what introduced me to your channel in the first place, so it's cool to see an updated version!
Chef Lau is a good teacher, along with his son's educational information...I cooked Siumai following his recipe, minus the Shiitake mushroom (I don't have it that time) but the marinade works wonders, you would thought it was cooked by a Chinese Chef. Thanks for sharing your knowledge in cooking, even my Dad who was a retired Chef liked it!
When my family and I got sick with COVID some time ago, your old egg flower soup recipe was the one i followed. I basically made enough for an entire day. 😅 Since then, I've made it more times than I could count with different variations (depending on ingredients we have/leftovers), and it's always good. I'll try this recipe next time! (Excited because i absolutely love tofu.) 😊😊
My favourite channel! I think it's so precious to have all these videos for your own memories. It's hard work, but worth it. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Thank you for your time , inspiration, knowledge, and humbleness......I truly enjoy and cherish the authentic ways of cooking cuisines passed down for multiple millennia....I can't wait to try this......thank you for sharing your hard work and pride....I'll cherish it whole heartedly
I make your original Egg Flower Soup recipe at least once a week. It’s literally perfection! Your recommendation for the Lee Kum Kee Chicken Bouillon Powder was spot-on for making it taste better than the best local takeout places.
This looks so delicious 😋❤ I'm going to serve it on Sunday. I'm so glad I found your channel, it's very inspiring and you show and explain things so well. Thank you 🌺
This is an advanced version. I grew up eating a very simple version of egg drop soup. My best guess: Chicken broth, eggs (long strands - do not stir after adding eggs) w a bit of ginger, dash of soy sauce and green onion. Restaurants would give you free egg drop soup w combo meal and if you wanted Won ton, well that was always extra. Developed a taste for Egg Drop soup during my college days. Every Chinese buffet had a vat of Egg Drop soup. Very simple, cheap & easy.
That looks so 👌 delicious 😋 I love egg drop soup. I like to add thin slices if white mushrooms & green onions cut up oh and corn. Everything your father makes looks so amazing 👏. I'm going to try to make a 3 course meal using your father's recipes. All send you guys some pictures so you can see how I did. Thank you and your family for these amazing videos. In my opinion these are the best Asian cooking RUclips videos. Your father is truly a master chef. I love the way explaines why he does everything from cutting the meat a certain way to why he uses certain ingredients for each individual dish. Thank you guys so much.
My mother is Cantonese and she showed me some recepies but I don't know much than 3, I was born and raised in Peru so my cooking knowledge is for most part Peruvian, but I'm also proud to be half Cantonese but the circumstances didn't let me to have much influence ...this channel is amazing, your dad it's a very good teacher and your commentary it's on point, thank you so much, I'm so excited to star this recepies 🎉, I'm going grocery shopping right now ❤
Last night I followed your old egg flower soup recipe and it turned out great. I substituted sweet rice flour for the cornstarch and added shrimp to one of the bowls (since I was using leftovers). After making the soup I remembered that a lot of recipes use tofu so I figured I'd try that next. I feel very vindicated to hear you mention these ingredients in your new video! Next time I'll follow this recipe.
I was surprised at how good it turned out! The soup was near-restaurant quality for my first attempt, and the broth was easily the best part. The flour added a welcomed bit of sweetness.
Swear idk why but I feel like part of this guys family just watching this lol you can see he has a lovely home and wonderful family and knowing he doesn't speak English and was a chef tells you him and his family worked hard to make there life and I admire that as well as the ease with which he speaks with his son. Seems like a good guy n loving grandpa and father and aside from the tofu (lol) I'm trying this and subscribed n liked lol
Thank you so much, I am not a good cook and my dishes I make for my wife often disappoint. (Nothing is worse than cooking bad food for a Chinese wife.) Your video helped me make food for my bed ridden spouse and helped her recover from sickness. She liked it! Thank you so much.
Watched the video, then went to try it immediately. Craving is strong for this one. Made an even simpler version by using imitation crab stick instead of prawns. Drinking it right now.
i basically shun away from “anything chinese” but i must admit, this video is by far the most sensible cooking demo in youtube. sunscribing after the awesome egg drop soup😊
this is helping me because i call my parents all the time or have to go home and take notes! i love that you inclide vegetarian friends. in the bay area san francisco many people go vegetarian and i want to simplify food and use less meat as much as possible! i love your channel too because your dad is canto like my family!
Well, that was nostalgic ! I remember very well having stumbled randomly on your first egg drop soup video (I believe that's the one that made me discover your channel), and it certainly helped me warm my stomach (and my mental state) during the darkest hours of the pandemic ! Thank you and your dad for all these fantastic videos over the years !
Hi Randy, thanks so much for sharing all the recipes. They have eased my homesick while living overseas away from my family. I am wondering if Daddy Lau keen to share where he gathers his ingredients from? I find it hard to find them in the major grocery stores sometimes.
some egg white and cornstarch season the shrimp before putting into the pot will make shrimp extra tender. Adding some white pepper into the soup will level your soup to another level. Adding tiny drop of Thai fish sauce for these for love seafood favor. For these who want even more favor out of soup, adding little pink vinegar in your bowl before eat will give your tongue extra sensation.
Thank you & your dad for sharing. Are all the food videos cantonese style cooking? Btw, could you do a video on how to choose a suitable cleaver - ss handles or wooden handles, etc. Have a great day and God Bless. 😁😎
OK, I am from Argentina, It is winter here, I am a soup-addict, and could not stop drooling over the keyboard! Time to go and fix some of this recipe...eggs? check! carrots? check! uhmmm....no shrimps, but a lot of mushrooms...check! tofu? less than a 1/3 brick...so...add more mushrooms...check! Some 5 or 6 liters of homemade chicken bouillon..CHECK! ....WAIT! I am out of excuses to try this! HANDS ON, THEN! Thanks for your videos! Always a good font for inspiration!
Maybe this is the receipe which I ve been looking for almost 40 years. When I was a boy, I used to taste this soup, since that I was thought to find the name.
Can you ask Daddy Lau to make a video about a very traditional cantonese dish "萝卜牛腩煲“. I really like this dish but I tried few times at home just cant get the taste right ;q Much love! Thank you
Exactly the video I needed today! Recently, due to the rising cost of food, I decided that I'll just eat more eggs to compensate with what little meat I can afford. I was thinking of different ways to eat eggs, then I remembered "Egg soup from Chinese restaurant!" and I ended up here. Now I know how to make a proper egg flower soup! A long time ago, I tried making it by guessing, but it never thickened. Apparently, I needed potato starch to thicken it and not to dump the eggs all at once lol! Next week I hope I'll get to make my own egg flower soup after I buy the potato starch.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us! I love Chinese food and have enjoyed learning how to properly prepare it. Unfortunately I've developed a soy allergy but I appreciate the different options you give, I can usually work around it. But I do miss tofu!

I live in Ohio and on a deadly cold day this soup has saved me
Thank you for the explanation of potatoes starch and corn starch for the soup clarity. I've been trying to figure that out for years now! Thank you!!!
I could hug this video forever and never let go, Chef Lau!

ONE OF THE GREATEST RUclips CHANNELS I HAVE WATCHED ABOUT COOKING!!!!!I ADMIRE YOU CHEF LAU!!!
I make your original Egg Flower Soup recipe at least once a week. It’s literally perfection! Your recommendation for the Lee Kum Kee Chicken Bouillon Powder was spot-on for making it taste better than the best local takeout places.
Bouillon is already salty though, plus some MSG, so it's stronger than canned broth
This looks so delicious 😋❤ I'm going to serve it on Sunday. I'm so glad I found your channel, it's very inspiring and you show and explain things so well. Thank you 🌺
I just can't get enough of the wholesomeness
First time viewer, I enjoyed the video, thank you for the receipt. I'll be watching everything else you have uploaded. Again thank you...
Thank you for the alternatives for people with allergies. I definitely be making this in the upcoming week!

Yummy! I've not tried addubg tofu or shrimp before but what a great idea! My goto is usually spinach and goji berries instead of the carrots.
Lau is a Canton cultural hero!
For many years I used the same technique for Italian Stracciatella soup, works very well.
Thanks for a great recipe. And little baby is so cute!
My family usually do this recipe with can corns and crab bits. Really hits the spot on cold days
Hi Randy, thanks so much for sharing all the recipes. They have eased my homesick while living overseas away from my family.
I am wondering if Daddy Lau keen to share where he gathers his ingredients from? I find it hard to find them in the major grocery stores sometimes.
Sometimes they go to Costco, so if you have the means, you could definitely look there!
Great instruction! Do you recommend also adding a little sesame oil to the water before adding the starch?
Wow! Thanks for this yummy egg drop soup recipe!
no man..thank you for sharing these delicious recipes
I’ve always wondered how Egg Drop Soup was made! My favorite soup on a cold day. 🍜
Thank you for your wonderful videos. Egg drop soup is my favorite 😋.
omg the translation is so gold! i get the starches confused ! you have it written! YES!!!

Mouth-watering. I live in Italy so I will have a hard time finding the potato starch, but I think I can make this dish!
I'd love to learn how to make hot and sour soup!
Hii

Wwooww I love it my favorite soup!! it's so delicious..
I have used Arrowroot as well, for the starch, works great.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us! I love Chinese food and have enjoyed learning how to properly prepare it. Unfortunately I've developed a soy allergy but I appreciate the different options you give, I can usually work around it. But I do miss tofu!
My grandma also love to make a dish similar to this just with stir fry noodle😊
The hero we never knew we needed. ❤
