When I was in college, I figured out we could use 1/2 a paper towel, most of the time, for just wiping your hands and mouth after eating. Really saved on waste. Now most stores sell them already so you can use half or whole, so now I use 1/2 of a half.
Always check the square footage of paper products like paper towels and toilet paper. It’s a great way to decide if the paper is a deal or not. If you are brand affixed due to durability or just a toilet paper preference then it makes more sense to track sales and unit prices.
I lived in Utah for 30 yrs and Maceys was my favorite place to shop!! I miss them so much!! There is not a store like it here in MN. I'm tempted to text my husband at work and tell him that Maceys is having their case lot sale. Thank you for sharing this with me. Great memories! !
Great tips. Could you please do a video on proper food storage. You mentioned airtight containers for flour, sugar, beans etc... Maybe a video on what container for them. How long they last in those containers, at what point do you use that flour and restock it, and can you open an airtight container to use flour from it and then how long does it last if your opening and shutting it? What all should you transfer to airtight containers, list of basic must haves, followed by what to get after the most important must haves. Dos and don'ts you've learned over time. For example, you mentioned powdered peanut butter over regular peanut butter.
In my experience the buy one get ones aren't usually a great deal. Especially when it comes to chicken. Usually if you keep an eye on sales you'll notice those items will go on sale in the next week or two after the buy one get one and be cheaper than it was. I always make sure to break down the price per pound when I see the buy one get ones before getting wrapped up in the sign
Same! The stores usually marks up that first package so essentially you’re paying dang near the same price for 1 as you would for 2 anyway. Rare to find a good BOGO FREE On meats for sure.
@@Jenniferslife01 in my area it's always best to just wait for a sale the next week. Usually that buy one get one goes down to a dollar per pound vs the $2 it was during the sale
Due to inflation and nervousness about an unstable world, I am completely revolutionizing the way I grocery shop thanks to you and other savvy shoppers on YT! I'm even thinking of getting a part time job to pay for more food storage, and I'm a food blogger! One thing that people also forget with food storage is MEDICINE, like pain killers. And most medicines are made in China! Stock up and keep them in the freezer too, next to the candy hahaha :0) Cadbury chocolate eggs are the best easter candy!!!
@R MS Absolutely agreed, especially for liquids. I was thinking about tablets such as Ibuprofen, which can be stored safely in the freezer without loosing hardly any efficacy. Do your research and ask Dr.s if you're not sure about how to store the meds you use on a regular basis. If you have prescription meds thats a whole other dilema, cant stock up on that :0\
Its stamped on the boxes as she is putting them in her vehicle. I am a little more choosy, & cost conscious. But that's me. A lot of food is able to be frozen, making it keep longer. Also, look into keeping your own herbs in extra pots, strawberry trays, etc. to flavor your foods. Easy to do yourself.
Another hack for chicken broth is just use water + a huge tablespoon (or more) of miso paste! I use chickpea miso for chicken substitute and the red one for beef substitute. Yum!
While meat prices tend to change weekly, it’s good to have a general idea of the price. If the average price of the pork loins you showed for example is $3.75 per pound for the last 3 weeks but this week it is a BOGO at $7.25 per pound, it’s not really a BOGO. They just increased the per pound price to cover the 2 pounds. Just something to keep in mind.
That’s what they do where we live for these. I came here to say that. Most BOGOs on meats are really the price just doubled and it makes you think you’re getting it for free, when you’re still paying full price for both.
@@tuesdaynyx pork doesn’t come in different types of cuts like prime or select. Only beef is categorized like that. My husband is a butcher. She was picking up pork loin. It’s usually around $3.25 per pound where I am so my point was the price she was paying where I am was an inflated price.
I really loved this style of video, showing us in real time what to buy and not buy, I like that you showed us things that you wouldn't buy and why. The way you explain it is super simple and easy, thank you
Great shopping ideas! With regard to dried beans vs canned, I opted for canned. Yes. They are more expensive, but beans/legumes need a lot of energy (gas/elec./wood/coal) to cook. It’s kind of like your logic regarding using paper towels vs rags. Thanks! 👍
If you can do a mix, that is best. Each has pluses and minuses - canned requires no water, great for when water is scarce however heavy to move. Dried can last 30 years when properly stored and they're also significantly lighter in case you need to schlep food to new location. Ideally longterm emergency storage should have a mix to account for varying potential issues.
Yes. I am working on switching all my bags of grains and beans to buckets. They have great spin-off tops that are so much easier than the pull-off ones. 🙌
Jordan, this is great! I love that you're sharing this. This is similar to how I've shopped for the past 16 years and been able to reduce our budget so I can stay home with our kids. I'm going to send this video to my 19 year old daughter.
The can chicken broth is good to have in your shelf storage in case you don’t have water to make your own. You may have bottled water but do you really want to use that when you may be having to ration out your water.
I bet the person watching the security got a good laugh watching you crawl around and hiding by the stacks of food😁 Very informative video...thank you for being so brave!
One thing I did hear someone say about dry beans if you do not have them pre washed and cooked/canned yourself. If something were to happen you could waste a lot of your good water washing and cooking them. So it is good to have both options on hand.
This is my jam!!!! I’ve never heard of a case lot sale 🤔 but I’m in Michigan. I’m planning on heading into a Mennonite or Amish store soon. Another great way to buy in bulk
Thanks for your video. We have been stocking up our food storage these past two months and it's been fun trying to find good deals and sales on things! This weekend my family is making inventory of everything we have and things we may need and make a list. I was able to find loads of stuff at the dollar store, Sam's club, Amazon and Walmart. Next month I plan on checking Trader Joe's for long term food storage and maybe Publix if I feel up to it!
Great tips for bulk shopping! One thing I have discovered on the buy one get one free area, is that you really need to be aware of the unit or per pound price. Our store seems to up the price per pound/unit when they have these sales, especially on meat. I know that at other times of the year I can get that product for much cheaper. That’s where your price book comes in really handy😊 TFS!
I buy cases of certain items that I use often such as tomatoes, beans, corn, and some canned meat. I have a few go-to comfort foods and I like to know that I always have the ingredients to make them. A case has the same expiration date and uniform taste and can size.
@@heyodi3092 with the supply change stuff going on and the way prices are going up and will probably do so,people need to look at long term in the case of food supplies, I have been buying a few extra things every time I go to the store. And I have been buying extra medicines as well, like pain relievers and vitamins and extra drink packets like Gatorade. A lot of shelf stable things. Buying now and putting things back for bulk supplies is smart thinking. And if nothing does happen then you have extra to give to food banks later. So be proactive and stock up now ,since gas is so high so now everything is gonna and has been going up.
Case lot sales are often found in Utah. Sometimes other places. The Mormon or Amish areas do them a few times a year. We have a small grocery store here in Southern Colorado that does it like once or twice a year. Also military bases do them but you have to be either active duty or a vet I believe. Certain areas of the country, sadly do not but you can look at canned goods. If it’s a lower unit price, say a can of green beans is normally $1 and they are on sale for 50cents this week. You best believe I’m picking up at least 10 cans. So that’s a way you can do a “case lot sale” without being an actual case lot.
@@chelseagarchar4338 Yes! You can ask them to bring you a case from the back to make carrying and storage easier. The main reason I do it when I’m buying that many units of something is because it will have the best expiration date. If I would consider buying 8 if something (say cans of green beans) I just go for the case and then know I’ve got the best chance of getting it all used up in time and getting a great price.
I found a deal today at an Albertson's affiliate - 2 pound packages of Bubba Burgers were $16.99 reduced to $2.99 so I picked up the last five boxes. And rearranged my freezer to fit them in - yea ! It pays to be flexible and creative when trying to save money. Thank you Jordan for all you do.
What Walmart seems to be in the US, Aldi is in Germany (low pricepoint). Aldi is the best store here, imo. The one and only downside is, that they have more of a smaller selection. So they don't have everything. We always buy the main part of our groceries there, and only go to the "big ones" for two or three "special" items.
I'm in the UK and Aldi and Lidl are so reasonably priced. It's always a surprise when they tell you the bill. But it's very true that they don't have everything.

Just two weeks ago I bought a couple of flats of 6 oz clamshells of blackberries at our local grocery store's case lot sale. They ended up being about .63 per container which is phenomenal. I also got a lot of strawberries for a great price, too, and put them in the freezer for smoothies. I love case lot sales!

Just found your channel this morning. Definitely have never heard of a case lot sale (ever) here in Virginia. I'm blown away by how full your store looks in general, as we are not seeing that here on the east coast!
Hi Jordan, we don't need a price list, because we get the flyers of all the shops right in the mailbox and it's easy to look at them and compare the prices at the same time. Then we just write down what we need to buy on the shopping list.😉 We buy flour, sugar, salt, canned vegetables (corn, peas ...), pasta, biscuits in larger quantities (because there are 4 of us together) ... I don't like semi-finished products, but in case of emergency we have bags of cooked meat in the warehouse, which have a long shelf life.😊 I agree with you that homemade broth is the cheapest and most importantly the healthiest!🤗
We keep a hurricane box for ready to eat canned and pouch food. Black beans and tomatoes is one of our go to combinations, as well as canned fruit (mandarin oranges, pears, applesauce). During one hurricane I lived off of peanut butter crackers, applesauce, and coconut water. We made oatmeal and coffee on the BBQ pit outside and my parents and brother ate tons of canned tuna. If you have salt, pepper, garlic powder, and sugar you can make pretty much everything taste good.
I'm doing budget boot camp. I have been covering all my boyfriend's expenses. He has been out with an injury. Although I have made it my mission to pickup enough to be under budget not always within the 70%rule but everything is paid and lucky if I have a couple dollars left over. His workman's comp hasn't come in when that does hello savings going back. I just wanted to say thank you for making this awesome program.
Always check expiration dates to make sure you can use it all in that amount of time and also know availability at your local stores. My local Walmart has been low on basics like green beans so if its about the same price and right in front of you BUY IT! Some things might be out by the time you get to Walmart
This was an excellent video! If I may input a couple things that have saved my family a lot monthly.... #1 The toilet paper POM BRAND at Sam's Club has proven to save my family a ton of money. The rolls last a little longer then others. We have saved about $40 a month just by switching to POM toilet paper. #2 For everyday paper towel useage I bought those huge bundles of wash clothes from Wal-Mart like 4 huge bundles and we use those to clean the house and just Lau red them with together. I save over $100 a month just by using bulk wash clothes instead of paper towels. We stock up on paper towels but rarely use them and save them for emergencies where we don't want to use the "cleaning wash clothes".
There are no case lot sales where I live. This may not be feasible for small families or couples but Jordan’s tip of buying one for now and two for later can be used by anyone. Singles could buy one for now and one for later also.
Hey Jordan, love your content so much. I would love to see your favorite books, your favorite things to do on your free time, how to budget for kids activities and how to manage their “mom, i’m bored” complains. Thanks
The point of storing chicken broth is so that you don’t have to use your water stores to cook with in an emergency situation. I love better than boullion too! It’s cheaper than canned broth and the flavor is ✨chefs kiss✨BUTTT-that being said- Water can go very quickly and it’s hard to store enough for more than a few weeks at a time. If you can store canned broth it can really help when you’re trying to stretch your water stores for an unknown length of time.
Did you know you can freeze potato chips? A family friend knew a guy who worked for a chip company and he told her to put bags right in the freezer and if you have chips at cook outs and you don't want them to get stale because of being out in the heat, roll the bag up and place in. Your cooler ( not in the water) and they still stay fresh and if you have left over chips and don't think you will eat them right away ,place them in a freezer bag and they will be fresh. Believe me freezing BBQ chips are the bomb!! The chips don't freeze solid they are just really cold when you get them out. I have been doing this for years and it really works.Just FYI!
Also we need to start thinking as long-term food storage should be rotatable. It’s so weird to have a long-term food storage and not eat through it. Make it make sense. You should always rotate your food.
I love these videos yall!! I don’t have a family or anything, I’m in college and these are great. Single mom taught me a lot of this stuff already but if anything, I’ll put this on to relax and learn sum new 😌❤️💅
This is a great video! I didn’t think about peanut butter going rancid. One thing you DON’T want to keep on hand is Velveeta. No, it’s not nutritious, but a lot of people do use it. It has a shelf life of 6 months. After that, it starts looking pretty bad. We’ve tried canned chicken, beef, and pork at Costco and they are all really good. One thing to consider, regarding dried beans. If you are in a situation where water is scarce, you DON’T want to have to be cooking dried beans and using your precious water, because they take a lot of water. You could cook and can ahead of time, but if you’re in a situation where you need to flee your home, for whatever reason, you don’t want to be hauling glass jars of food around. They can break. 😢 So, keep some canned beans on hand, in case you are in a situation where you need to flee.
When you were talking about the chocolate eggs, I thought the baby crying in the background was mine. I couldn't understand why it stopped crying when I paused😆

Great video! Small item, I think your math is a little bit off with the dry bean to canned bean conversion. I use dry beans a lot. I'm glad to really showed how it is important to know your prices and that just because it says 'sale' doesn't mean it's a good deal.
How much do you budget for stock-up per month/year? Is the cow meat included in that number, or is that separate? Maybe I shouldn't include my Sam's Club hauls in with my weekly grocery budget?
Hey Jordan! I'm hoping this is at every Walmart, but I just discovered you can buy a case of veggies online! They're not available for pickup, but you can get them shipped to your house. They are regular price 54 cents, but a case of 12 makes them 49 cents. I've never heard of a case lot sale here in Central KY. We do have Amish and Mennonite close by, so I might be checking out their bulk goods!
At this rate its cheaper for me to fly to another state, stock up and go home. We spend wayy more a week for 2 people cant imagine having a stock pile. But always love your tips! Thanks Jordan!
I go to the stores the day after a holiday such as Easter and stock up on the chocolate then. I throw them in my freezer and use them through out the year! I did this when I had kids and used them as treats for them doing their chores in the house! LOL
Yeah I went on a boil water advisory and omg not having paper plates and bowls and cutlery to conserve drinking water really sucked. Thankfully our water was only out for a day but we still had to boil our water for month. Always get more bottles of water then you think you need but don’t hoard them.
I was thinking the same thing. However, I have found a couple of b1g1 on cheap chicken....I bought almost all of them.
Same! The stores usually marks up that first package so essentially you’re paying dang near the same price for 1 as you would for 2 anyway. Rare to find a good BOGO FREE On meats for sure.
When it comes to meat products such as chicken I try to find prices that are close together when I do find a a b1g1 sale
@@Jenniferslife01 in my area it's always best to just wait for a sale the next week. Usually that buy one get one goes down to a dollar per pound vs the $2 it was during the sale
At my local Kroger store, they will sometimes do Buy One Get Two free!!
Don't forget your Critters!!!
Can you recommend channels similar to this pne?
Totally agree I see them jack the prices up before they do buy one get one, they think we are not smart enough to figure it out!
Also keep in mind the cut and quality. $5.49 per pound for prime cuts and BOGO is excellent.
The way you explain it is super simple and easy, thank you
I love this video. So helpful and I love that you gave the best options for emergency use, considering what we’re facing these past few weeks.
Great shopping ideas! With regard to dried beans vs canned, I opted for canned. Yes. They are more expensive, but beans/legumes need a lot of energy (gas/elec./wood/coal) to cook. It’s kind of like your logic regarding using paper towels vs rags. Thanks! 👍
I agree When I was a kid people ate pork and beans straight out of the can Not all the time But, like while picnicing, for example
@@paularoberts866 my
pressure cookers cook them in a short amount of time tho
If you can do a mix, that is best. Each has pluses and minuses - canned requires no water, great for when water is scarce however heavy to move. Dried can last 30 years when properly stored and they're also significantly lighter in case you need to schlep food to new location. Ideally longterm emergency storage should have a mix to account for varying potential issues.
Something I look at for case lots is the best before on the case. Sometimes it's not worth it if the date is very long
Yessss!
When you bake a chicken, save the juice for broth too. If you have veggies with it, label it because that adds flavor.
The can chicken broth is good to have in your shelf storage in case you don’t have water to make your own. You may have bottled water but do you really want to use that when you may be having to ration out your water.
I kind feel if you are rationing water it’s a pretty serious situation, and for me chicken stock/cooking probably isn’t going be a high priority.
Seen this before, but always worth a rewatch. Miss your videos
Another tip you can also freeze flour, keeps it nice and fresh too. X
My favorite sale is pasta at Kroger! They have 10 boxes for $10 all the time. And I buy for the entire year during these sales. So good!
Thats great there is no pasta here where i live
95 cents at dollar general
This is my jam!!!! I’ve never heard of a case lot sale 🤔 but I’m in Michigan. I’m planning on heading into a Mennonite or Amish store soon. Another great way to buy in bulk
Those are great too!

I bought a bag of malted chocolate mini Easter Eggs for my daughter and every time I reach for some I remember your love for them Jordan! 😂
Very true!
I buy cases of certain items that I use often such as tomatoes, beans, corn, and some canned meat. I have a few go-to comfort foods and I like to know that I always have the ingredients to make them. A case has the same expiration date and uniform taste and can size.
Ty soooo much for getting this info to the masses. Please focus on this for a few months. We dont need to fear/panic, but we do need to prepare.
Wait what is happening?? I’m so out of the loop.

I have never heard of a case lot sale. Now I’m going to look around. Jordan great tips! Amazing as usual.
@@chelseagarchar4338
Yes!
@@chelseagarchar4338 Utah has them twice a year spring and fall
@@dixiecook2264 I have seen some places close to me have them three times a year. Yes, in general two times a year.
I found a deal today at an Albertson's affiliate - 2 pound packages of Bubba Burgers were $16.99 reduced to $2.99 so I picked up the last five boxes. And rearranged my freezer to fit them in - yea !
I am on the same page as you ate in that I walk away if the price is not what I want to pay or if money is tight and the item was a " want" instead of a need.
I slso have a drawer in my pantry if Alternative Proteins - Peanut Butter, canned Salmon, Tuna, Kippeted Hwrring, shelf stable Tofu, canned & shelf stable packaged Chicken, Lentils, several Beans and so on.
We have Aldi in the US too. It's my favorite place to shop for my pantry staples (especially their gluten free options).
I'm in the UK and Aldi and Lidl are so reasonably priced. It's always a surprise when they tell you the bill. But it's very true that they don't have everything.
@@carolynbennett5102
I know it's in the US. What I meant was the Walmart as pricepoint-comparison/benchmark.
That sounded like it's the cheapest store..
Aldi is not as common in the US. I’ve heard so many good things about it but I don’t have one close to me
I'm just Binge Watching Jordan's video! Love your videos and great tips for buying in bulk 👍
Thank you Jordan! Your videos are always the best!!! Since you are doing a video on food storage, please do a video on your pantry. It could be a clean and organize your pantry video or what to store in the pantry video but I could really use your help with the pantry.
Thank you Jordan for all the great ideas. And your silliness!
Always a great reminder how cheap groceries are in my country. Even now that the prices go up. Thanks for that!
Do you mean the state she lives in? Here in New York City you don’t find those prices. We shop at Walmart: Connecticut or New Jersey. But now with gas at $4.36 a gallon 😭 will have to find alternatives.

Jordan, I love any of your ideas related to food! 😅 I may have missed it.. but will you do a video showing your food storage in your new house?! 😁
One also has to factor gas and time to the next store. Makes sense to buy it where you are at the moment if you need them....
Wow! Ty! You are definitely the proverbs 31 woman!
Military groceries stores or “commissary” does case lot all the time. I LOVE when they do
For chicken Boullion, try pulling the juice off a cooked chicken & separate the fat for the remains.
I'm so glad it's helping you! Way to go! ❤️
I NEVER buy broth anymore because of you! The Better Than Bullion is 100% the way to go!
🤣 love the singing in the car eating Easter eggs.
Always check expiration dates to make sure you can use it all in that amount of time and also know availability at your local stores. My local Walmart has been low on basics like green beans so if its about the same price and right in front of you BUY IT! Some things might be out by the time you get to Walmart
I do not go by expiration dates, cans last forever, it is just a suggestion for best if eaten by. I NEVER throw out a can product!!!
I agree
Thank you for sharing! Please make more videos about making a long term pantry storage if you can.
CORRECTION: for the wash clothes I just reuse them by washing them in the laundry.
It’s cheaper than canned broth and the flavor is
✨chefs kiss✨BUTTT-that being said- Water can go very quickly and it’s hard to store enough for more than a few weeks at a time. If you can store canned broth it can really help when you’re trying to stretch your water stores for an unknown length of time.
Yes! I've been waiting for this one. Thanks, Jordan.
I have also successfully frozen unopened bags of tortilla chips.
Also we need to start thinking as long-term food storage should be rotatable. It’s so weird to have a long-term food storage and not eat through it. Make it make sense. You should always rotate your food.
That was one of your best videos as of late. Such good info.
I am stocking up on the chocolates!!!

How did I get here? Thanks algorithm! I love your ideas and your vibe. Thanks for sharing this! 😊
Would love to see videos on shelf stable meal ideas or kits!
Thank you I needed this info for my own enormous family to feed. Btw you look phenomenal 😍
Although bagged beans are way cheaper. It's important to have a few cans of beans because the dry takes longer if power is limited.
When i want broth. I boil a whole chicken. Then i have broth and chicken precooked for taco night or to throw in pasta or soups.
When you were talking about the chocolate eggs, I thought the baby crying in the background was mine. I couldn't understand why it stopped crying when I paused😆
Where were you 25 years ago when I was raising my kids (and husband).? No one taught me this stuff. Great information!!

Great video! Small item, I think your math is a little bit off with the dry bean to canned bean conversion. I use dry beans a lot. I'm glad to really showed how it is important to know your prices and that just because it says 'sale' doesn't mean it's a good deal.
The bridge on "always forever" though 👏💃🥰
How much do you budget for stock-up per month/year? Is the cow meat included in that number, or is that separate? Maybe I shouldn't include my Sam's Club hauls in with my weekly grocery budget?
Yes my question as well! Can you talk about your stock up budget?
Good idea about going back to Walmart & checking prices
We just have case sales in idaho and Washington. I love them helps and now Walmart you can order case a sales price .found that out this weekend

I am working my way up to about 3 weeks of water for my husband and every time I get groceries I get a case of water incase that boil water advisory turns into something worse.
Im so glad I had a camping water jug to hold all my boiled water. Stay prepared folks. :)
Military commissaries do this I believe. I have seen it in Texas and Washington. Definitely worth it once in a while. Hard to keep extra when we move every 3 ish years😭
