This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). This Wacken 2013 concert was the first introduction of singer Floor to a wide audience. At that moment she was only 10 months with the band. She stepped in in October 2012, in mid- world tour after the 2nd singer left the band, and she had to learn the setlist in 48 hrs and she nailed it! One of my favorite songs of this concert is # "She's my Sin"'. Moments before this song she was introduced by Marko, the bassist. At the beginning of the concert the crowd was in a bit of wait-and-see mood but when she started She's my sin they exploded! The rest is history. Enjoy the rabbit hole! When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on RUclips. Welcome back in the wonderful world of storytelling by Nightwish and their incredible talented 3rd female vocalist Floor Jansen (pronouns Yahn-sen). Although the band is Finnish, she is Dutch, living with her Swedish husband Hannes van Dahl (drummer of the Swedish metal band Sabaton). Another great song is “Storytime” from that same concert in Wacken 2013, Germany.
Great reaction to my favourite band! Tuomas (on keyboards) who composes most of their music and writes the lyrics loves movie soundtracks (especially that of Hans Zimmer); you can hear this not only in this song. And Floor is the most versatile female singer I have ever heard: She can sing all from opera to death metal growls and all between. Here at the Wacken concert 2013 our Valkyrie Goddess "commands" a crowd of 82.000 people.

Discovered Nightwish about 6 years ago and they are now right up there with Pink Floyd, Rush and the Steve Hackett era of Genesis. I have yet heard a bad song from them and live is always best. I get what you are saying about growling but discovering bands like Jinger and Opeth I am getting to like it a bit more.

Thanks to RUclips for giving Nightwish the ability to showcase their music....The reason why the American audience was n[t introduced to Nightwish was that the "music industry" was afraid that American bands could not compete with the sheer creativity and musicality of a band that has more than just a "songwrite". Yes, most bands have songwriters....they are a dime a dozen, but Nightwish has a true COMPOSER who weaves melodies, harmonies and can exploit the full range of orchestration. Tuomas is a genius, and Floor's vocals are unmatched...people are getting tired of the three chord gimmicky trash that's become "pop music". Nightwish is a refreshing challenge to these "wanna be" bands who have nothing to say.....

I was like you once i was stuck in the past loving all my eighties classic rock and metal never thought i'd mature with age and find symphonic metal being worth listening to but yet here i am addicted. These musicians are tight and with Floor she can do no wrong. Classicaly trained including theatre, metal trained at a school of rock. She can sing anything even Pop?. Yes even pop. Her vocals are powerful and she's easy on the eyes with cool costumes that many rock princess would love to own but we see her as our Queen...p.s. there's rumours she may even be an immortal goddess?. Maybe one day we'll find out.

It's not just mixing metal and opera. You have to have a vocalist (operative word "vocalist") who can pull it off without electronic aids. Floor is special and a master of her instrument. Check out Tarja's singing this song. Didn't seem like a 10 min song did it? Also, this concert was lightening in a bottle. Great that they did such a professional job capturing it.

I liked but did not subscribe just yet. You can learn to appreciate growling. I did, and I am way older than you. I don't remember my first male growl so it did not shock me very much. Probably Nick Holmes in Paradise Lost. The first female growls I heard did shock me, and changed me. Angela Gossow in Arch Enemy. I still occasionally play their magnificent live concerts from London and Tokyo.

This Wacken 2013 concert was the first introduction of singer Floor to a wide audience. At that moment she was only 10 months with the band. She stepped in in October 2012, in mid- world tour after the 2nd singer left the band, and she had to learn the setlist in 48 hrs and she nailed it! One of my favorite songs of this concert is # "She's my Sin"'. Moments before this song she was introduced by Marko, the bassist. At the beginning of the concert the crowd was in a bit of wait-and-see mood but when she started She's my sin they exploded! The rest is history. Enjoy the rabbit hole! When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’.
Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera).
'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’.
Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’
Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see.
Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on RUclips. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered RUclips in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish.
Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turned 7 years this march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

Welcome back in the wonderful world of storytelling by Nightwish and their incredible talented 3rd female vocalist Floor Jansen (pronouns Yahn-sen). Although the band is Finnish, she is Dutch, living with her Swedish husband Hannes van Dahl (drummer of the Swedish metal band Sabaton).

Great reaction to my favourite band! Tuomas (on keyboards) who composes most of their music and writes the lyrics loves movie soundtracks (especially that of Hans Zimmer); you can hear this not only in this song. And Floor is the most versatile female singer I have ever heard: She can sing all from opera to death metal growls and all between. Here at the Wacken concert 2013 our Valkyrie Goddess "commands" a crowd of 82.000 people.

Discovered Nightwish about 6 years ago and they are now right up there with Pink Floyd, Rush and the Steve Hackett era of Genesis. I have yet heard a bad song from them and live is always best. I get what you are saying about growling but discovering bands like Jinger and Opeth I am getting to like it a bit more.

Thanks to RUclips for giving Nightwish the ability to showcase their music....The reason why the American audience was n[t introduced to Nightwish was that the "music industry" was afraid that American bands could not compete with the sheer creativity and musicality of a band that has more than just a "songwrite". Yes, most bands have songwriters....they are a dime a dozen, but Nightwish has a true COMPOSER who weaves melodies, harmonies and can exploit the full range of orchestration. Tuomas is a genius, and Floor's vocals are unmatched...people are getting tired of the three chord gimmicky trash that's become "pop music". Nightwish is a refreshing challenge to these "wanna be" bands who have nothing to say.....

I was like you once i was stuck in the past loving all my eighties classic rock and metal never thought i'd mature with age and find symphonic metal being worth listening to but yet here i am addicted. These musicians are tight and with Floor she can do no wrong. Classicaly trained including theatre, metal trained at a school of rock. She can sing anything even Pop?. Yes even pop. Her vocals are powerful and she's easy on the eyes with cool costumes that many rock princess would love to own but we see her as our Queen...p.s. there's rumours she may even be an immortal goddess?. Maybe one day we'll find out.

It's not just mixing metal and opera. You have to have a vocalist (operative word "vocalist") who can pull it off without electronic aids. Floor is special and a master of her instrument. Check out Tarja's singing this song. Didn't seem like a 10 min song did it? Also, this concert was lightening in a bottle. Great that they did such a professional job capturing it.

You can learn to appreciate growling. I did, and I am way older than you. I don't remember my first male growl so it did not shock me very much. Probably Nick Holmes in Paradise Lost. The first female growls I heard did shock me, and changed me. Angela Gossow in Arch Enemy. I still occasionally play their magnificent live concerts from London and Tokyo.
I don't mind growling, like I said, I'm just not a fan of the whole song being growled. I need melody. Death metal, for example, not a fan.
