Mundus has got to be one of, if not, the scariest video game villain I’ve ever seen. Seriously, he is horrifying! His deep demonic voice, heinous crimes, appearance, power…everything is just horrifying about him. The fact that Dante is easily able to stand up to him without feeling any fear just goes to show how badass Dante really is! If I played Devil May Cry as a kid I’d probably have nightmares of Mundus.

Will be harder than dark souls
Everyone forgets satan is an angel. All his servants are former angels too. But you can really feel in mundus and griffons designs that they didnt create demons they created “evil angels” which is far more apt a description of a demon. And the biblical irony of munduses prison being a replica of what he lost when he rebelled is a chefs kiss too. RIGHT DOWN TO WHEN THE MARBLE PRISON IS TORN OFF IN THE END HIS TRUE FORM IS LIGHT HANDS WINGS AND EYES LIKE A PROPER HIGH ORDER ANGEL its all so fucking perfect. Dont get me started on the idea that sparda is a reverse fallen angel, an ascended demon if you will. Who rejected his dark master and returned to light. All so great
Man I tell you, the chamber in which Mundus is encased within that statue is SO eerie, you can literally FEEL the evil in that room, despite the bright setting and the "divine" facade it is the shadows that give away it's true nature

Okay, as of DMC V, we have Vergil and Dante back, as well as Nero. Who's up for the return of Mundus in DMC VI? After what Vergil suffered at his hands, it would be a perfect full circle for the story.
DMC fan here, IF capcom were to greenlit DMC 6, mundus would be perfect as a returning villain, it's been years now, we wanna see him return, cuz he was just sealed away, not dead.
I reckon DMC VI should be a prequel, a story of Sparda and how he came to defeat Mundus and betray the Devil army. Also seeing DMC3 villains as allies before you betray them would be nice.
@@derrickmun2215 Mundus is dead. Dante sealing him away has been retconned since 2003 in the dmc2 novel. It was stated again in the dmc5 manga.
And yes, these would be of a higher canon than dmc1, as Itsuno himself oversaw these projects and allowed these canon stories to have this new lore. Since Itsuno has been the current director of the series since dmc2, his changes can override anything Kamiya did. In this case, one of them was Mundus' fate.
Not to mention they would need to buff up Mundus to an insane degree, as even a way weaker Dante can one shot Mundus level opponents, like Argosax.
I wanna see an interaction between Dante and Vergil, meeging Sparda. Maybe a mission in which the three of them have to save Eva for a special something? I really want a scene with the 4 of them as a family
It's Sparda who should make an appearance now. Mundus was his nemesis.
After all these years, this game still looks amazing.
Amazingly enough a lot of PS2 games have that effect! Somehow a lot of games from the early 2000s like Silent Hill 3 and Devil May Cry hold up very well and still look incredible.

I still beleive the theory that DMC and Bayonetta take place in the same universe and Sparda is actually the little brother of Madame Butterfly
@@kevinmoore2474 sadly its different, as much as I want DMC and Bayonetta to share universe, but their cosmology already different.
-DMC has no Angel's but Demons.
-Bayonetta has both.
-DMC only contains like 20 universes(Demon world is so extremely large that even contain another realm).

Classic! Thank you for posting this. I miss the old devil May cry
To be honest, with all the remakes of resident evil, I think a great idea would be a remake of this game. Its not awful, but its definitely got some points worth reworking, like combat, voice lines, and such. Beyond the shortcomings, it's an amazing game, and it'd be a shame not to see it's impact on a market starving for real epics like this
Plus, just think what they could do with Mundus' true form with todays technology
Although I wouldnt change Dante's more mature sounding voice I think a remake would be nice to sport more modern dante-like dialogue. Such as instead of yelling "silence", yelling "shut up", and instead of "strange and ironic that it will end the same way", making it "ironic too (expression turns hostile, but with a smirk) cuz it'll end the same way". More informal, straight to the point
The design is all there, just needs a little different kind of polish
And one final note, Jackpot hits different knowing Dante and Vergil said that a bunch as kids, so he was probably thinking about his brother when he shot
Or they could make a new game.
THIS GAME NEED A REMAKE! Please CAPCOM!

If you didn't know, DMC lore states that Mundus fought his dominion against Argosax - the one we see in Dmc 2. Because both of them were vanquished by Dante, Vergil's devilish half (Urizen) was able to dominate the Qliphoth as these two behemoths are either incapacitated or ceased to exist. Urizen would then consume the same fruit Mundus once take, fueling his already nigh-invincible cesspool of power due to Sparda's bloodline.
Where do you scale both though?

Playing this in 2001 as a kid I got destroyed. Took me hours to beat it for some reason the lava pit phase was the hard part for me. I remember most from where the clip starts to the end just how much my mind was blown. You come in the church and hear the organs. Approach the big statue and that whole amazing cheesy cutscene of Dante goes super and they go into space plays out. Then you're fighting in space. Then you're fighting in lava, then you're escaping, then you're in a third phase fight, then you're on a plane escaping again finishing the game not to mention the rest of the cutscenes. What a rollercoaster
I had a a lot of trouble with the 1st phase.
I solo'd the lava pit in my first go, it was the first faze I got stuck on for 3x tries, but if you grind before hand and get a large supply of trigger gage items you can spam them on both the second and first faze to win a quick and easy victory, if you drop down into the lava pit while in trigger form you can do a ton of damage by whacking his torso and regaining heath with the star if necessary, but you would have to have a minimum of 1.3 health bars for it to work

Yup bro 😘😀
Everyone talked about how Dante and Vergil were ruined in the reboot
But no one talks about how Mundus was ruined, he went from a lovecraftian cosmic monstrosity to the most cliche villain that has ever existed and on top of that they pronounced his name wrong
Let's not act like OG Mundus was in any way a good character or somehow less cliché than reboot Mundus. The only thing OG Mundus has above reboot Mundus is his overall design and aesthetic and presentation.
Like, OG Mundus is literally just "big demon guy wants to take over the world because he's evil"
Reboot Mundus seems to genuinely believe that he's helping humanity, and since the world building is so shit in the reboot, we legitimately don't know if the world wasn't a complete shit show without him. Not to mention, he seems to actually care about his child being murdered, as he got upset over it. This gives him at least something more to his character than OG Mundus.
@@xenowarrior282 so reboot Mundus is better because he gets a little angry that his son dies?
I’ll concede that Mundus wasn’t inherently deep but he’s the demon king of hell he doesn’t need to be deep he needs to be evil and cunning and not a pathetic joke of a villain that doesn’t do jack shit about anything
@@kruegerpoolthe13th Yes. Quite literally. Why would a demon, the King of Hell, give a shit that his child was murdered?
He can just fuck some other random demon and make a new one. The fact that he gets so upset can lead to the conclusion that he has some genuine human emotions in him. That's at least something when it comes to his character.
And as I said, OG Mundus nailed the presentation and aethstetic. He certainly does look like an intimidating King of Hell. And sure, he doesn't need to be a deep or compelling character, but it would be nice so we can separate him from every other evil demon in the series.
Not saying reboot Mundus is overall better, but he's at least got something more to his character than just "evil, must take over world, super duper evil"
Mundus in the reboot is like most businessman nowadays
@@xenowarrior282 There's no way Mundus could look somehow more human, demons in the DMC franchise are just pure evil and that's the whole point why Sparda, his descendants and other demons like Trish are much more powerful than any other demon, because they have something that the other demons lack, this is explained sometimes in the franchise, the majority of the demons are less powerful because they lack humanity.
But I agree that there were much more ways to give Mundus a much better villain development,I really don't like villains that are villains just because yes, unless this is really the whole point of the character, not like demons in DMC,but like Vanitas in Kingdom Hearts,he is probably one of the most evil characters in the series because he was born from the literal darkness of a heart, his entire being is made of darkness, which I think it's very cool. Sorry for the big ass text I wrote.
I hope they bring back Mundus with more wings and larger wingspan so you can feel that you are fighting a literal god!!
You are already fighting a God in this game, because Mundus is a Demon God of darkness.
I feel like this entire boss fight would be fixed by just giving you a targeting reticle
16:06 when Drew Coombs sounds like Reuben Langdon
Imagine, your father had a friend, then your father betrayed his former best friend, then your father had you as a son, and forced to fight against your father's own former best friend.
Out of context, this totally makes Sparda the true face of evil in the entirety of DMC universe
I played ironically Dmc 3 first and next Dmc 1. At the beginning i found the game with a darker and serious protagonist but the playstyle was badass as it always do. However, after this battle NOW I understand why Arkham and Vergil wanted Sparda’s power…
It seems The power of the Legendary Dark Knight wasn’t made to conquer. It was for protect the ones he loved. The mother and his sons… I found EPIC how such ambitious power ended finally used to defeat the greatest villain of the franchise✨✨
I just noticed the phases of this battle are kinda the reverse order of the Bowser battles in SM64

2. Mundus in the Fire Sea
3. Mundus in the Dark World
The part where you jump through mirrors and pictures of rooms reminds me of Super Mario 64 too

Dante: "Uuuuhh how about send regards to my nephew?"
Nero: "Hell no."
Tbh Nero might need a sin devil trigger and the help of Dante and Vergil to stop Mundus
@@AM-sj5vr Nero can one shot Mundus even in dmc4 (as long as he has Yamato)
Dmc5 Nero can one shot Mundus in base form with just Red Queen.
@@xenowarrior282nope. Nero in his dmc4 form will get fucked up by Mundus.
@@user-gr1gb7os2t Just a friendly little reminder.
Dmc4 Nero was able to make Dante try in their second fight. We know this because Dante is panting from exhaustion, and Dante explicitly states in the novel he wasn't pulling his punches.
I shouldn't have to tell you how high on the food chain this puts Nero, but just to clarify, this makes Nero WAY stronger than Mundus. Like, to an insane degree.
Why? Because dmc2 Dante (which takes place before dmc4) was able to effortlessly kill Void Mundus and Argosax. Void Mundus from the dmc2 novel is an alternate version of Mundus that took over everything in his timeline. OG Mundus never got close to this. And yet, Dante effortlessly beat him and was mocking him the entire fight.
Then he effortlessly kills Argosax, someone who is at bare minimum, equal to Mundus. Dante legit forgot who he was later on due to how easy the fight was.
So dmc4 Nero was able to do something neither Void Mundus nor Argosax could. And he fought a stronger version of Dante than the one they fought.
Then there's the fact that in the novel, Agnus outright states Nero has more demonic power than Dante, and Dante says Nero is physically stronger than him.
So yeah no, Nero in dmc4 one shots Mundus.
@@xenowarrior282 how can making someone a little panting makes someone stronger than Mundus? Its irrational.
And yep in the novel Dante wasn't pulling his punches but he took Nero head on in his DT mode and it was still a walk in the park for him. Dmc4 Nero tried every bit of his strength against Dante putting his entire body into it but he was unable to do anything against Dante besides bleeding his hand with his red queen which obviously will happen because Dante is a half human. Nero had already given up against Dante in his mind and was even thinking that "is this even a guy which I can ever beat in my life?" Something like that.
So please don't make such a big fuss about Nero make Dante a little bit exhausted.
And on top of that panting thing can also happen because Dante was holding back and was in total defensive against Nero (who was relentlessly attacking Dante in sheer anger) so we need to see this possibility too.
Putting Nero above Mundus directly from his feat against Dante is based on your assumption that Mundus will not be able to make Dante pant in his dmc4 reincarnation. Which is something we should be sceptical about.
And before putting Nero against Mundus U should have compared him first with Saviour!! And Dmc1 Dante!.
Nero even after obtaining his DT and Yamato was no match for Saviour's (in its weakest form) strength in mission 11, hell he was even unable to free himself from saviour's mere grip!! As we can see it both in the novels and cutscenes. So It clearly shows that Saviour strength far outclasses dmc4 dt Nero own strength!! Even in its weakest form!
Yamato is also useless against someone like Saviour, Nero tried to hit the saviour head with Yamato while putting his entire body into it (mentioned in the novel) but it was only a mosquito bite for "deactived" saviour.
So dmc4 Nero was just like a mosquito against the saviour and this is the reason why he got fucked up in mission 11. He was clearly outmatched and out of options which he even mentions in cutscene. And then we get to Dante in mission 12 after he gets absorbed.
Is saviour stronger than Mundus?? Ans: No because saviour can't even move without Sanctus and it needs a sparda blood source. Plus it has never shown feat like that of Mundus like creating a universe filled with stars in a matter of seconds.
So how dmc4 Nero can match Mundus if he can't even handle the saviour?
So Dmc4 Nero can't even match Mundus let alone giving him a decent fight.
-Now the most imp comparison-
let's compare Nero with dmc1 Dante: Can Dmc4 Nero beat dmc1 Dante?
Ans: No and here's why.
Dante in dmc1 is far stronger than dmc3 Dante who defeated Vergil (the master of Yamato itself) decisively. So what tricks can dmc4 Nero pull up who Cant even use Yamato like Vergil against dmc1 Dante?? (Who defeated nightmare who is stated to be so powerful that he can destroy the fucking demon world itself!, So Dante strength is pretty much gigantic by dmc1 point).
Dmc1 Dante will take dt dmc4 Nero head on and take Yamato hits from him like a bug bite! And if not then his healing factor is so good that whatever damage Nero will inflict on him with Yamato will get instantly healed anyway.
Strength is something which is useless against Dante because of his endurance and healing capabilities something which dmc4 Nero lacked hell even dmc5 Nero lacks it!! And we can see this from the bruise on Nero's mouth which didn't get healed after Dante and Vergil punched him on top of qliphoth.
Plus if dmc1 Dante goes all out and uses quicksilver, bangle of time and doppelganger etc. Then it will be hell for dmc4 Nero, who will get significantly slowed down with quicksilver and dmc1 Dante Can then can just finish him off by chopping him into pieces. Remember Agnus almost killed Nero by his mere blades and it was only Yamato which somehow saved him at the last minute. Otherwise he would've died right there.
So if Nero can't even beat dmc1 Dante the how can he beat Mundus? Who is far stronger than dmc1 Dante??

I just realizes that Mundus did Domain Expansion before it was cool
Feels weird that Mundus never bragged about defeating Vergil in that cutscene
Because in this game's canon, Vergil was taken as a child. Dmc3 retconned this.
So the reason Mundus doesn't brag about defeating Vergil is because it's not exactly impressive to defeat an 8 year old kid with hardly any fighting experience.
"How much longer are you going to keep zapping? Come out! And show yourself Mundus!!"

He literally created a universe with his wings so i dont understand how the logic work here because the rest of villains are stronger in comparison
Or he just teleported Dante up to space and then the 2 battle.
dmc3 was a prequel, dmc2 was a cake walk, dmc4 was more neros thing, dmc5 was about vergil trying to reach munduses level, and Dante left Spardas power, which he used to beat mundus, with Trish.
dmc1 was argueably Dante at his most powerful.
@@DoctorFailDMC 5's director Hideaki itsuno stated that Urizen is the most powerful dmc villain, that includes Mundus
Also Dante didn't leave sparda's power, he absorbed it. Dmc 5 is everyone at their peak
@@DoctorFail That is objectively wrong.
For one, Dante has defeated MUCH stronger enemies than Mundus. Some examples.
Argosax is directly stated in the dmc5 novel to have been completely equal to Mundus. So much so that they split Hell in two to rule their own sides.
Argosax during the events of dmc2 would actually be far stronger than Mundus, as he was merging the human and demon world effortlessly with just his presence, while he was still sealed. He wasn't even in his true form. Mundus has never done this. He even needed the Hellgate on Mallet Island to even attempt to do so.
Dante killed Argosax so easily, he legit forgot who he was and when reminded, said it was an easy job and he was bored.
He also defeated an alternate universe version of Mundus in the dmc2 novel. This Mundus succeeded in his goal and became the ruler of that entire timeline. The fight was so easy for Dante, he was legit mocking Mundus during the fight.
And right after that fight, he fights Chen the Cannibal and almost died due to his abilities when combined with the Beastheads.
These 3 are very clearly above Mundus from dmc1. Dante had to use Sparda, and Trish's power just to kill him. Dante killed 2 opponents way stronger than Mundus with just his pistols and Rebellion. By the time of dmc5, Dante can quite literally one shot Mundus with one his guns.
@@bryanbrowls4381 It's directly stated in dmc1's guidebook and by Hideki Kamiya himself that Mundus created a universe.

@@yunaruby6920 Yeah RE6 is a good action game but a bad resident evil game
Puts every Michael Bay movie to shame lmao
@@yunaruby6920 RE6 is my guilty pleasure, it's a mid game, but i come back to it every once in a while
15:52 is the final insult to mundus before he gets banished he gets portrayed as a soyjak.
Mundus it's looks like Zeus in God of war it's looks like so similarity battle between Dante and mundus and that battle of kratos and Zeus.
most epic gaming battle imo ps2 2001 first game i played on ps2.
That scene when trish died was so sad
And Mudas just laughed at Dante for giving a shit. Yeah, this guy is an asshole, trying to fuck with Dante and add to insult to injury. Mundas is definately a demon, one who like to torment and mock his enimies for fun.
Alot of people were like why are the manakles open around her wrist. Simple answer mundus feared the descendant of Sparda that much that he was willing to allow for extra man power if need be via Trish to be able to get free an zap Dante lol. Fan theory here.
The fact that the demon king looks like an angel is the most edgy thing I’ve seen today
Yeah that also adds an eerieness to Mundus as well, because despite the brightness of the chamber that houses the statue He's encased in, you can literally feel the evil energy in that room
And then turns into a resident evil monster
0:19 how is it that this laugh is suppose to be evil but comes across as a warm hearted chuckle mabye mundus laughed at how similar dante is to his father
Vergil and Mundus: Infamous for using scum word
19:20 Trish: Dante and his sidekick.
Me: She’s more like a Side-Chick. ❤
And to think that this started out as an idea for Resident Evil 4.
its still wild to think this was the original re4
Dante, I will return and I will rule this world! What a big baddie...
a demonic ruler who has an angelic image xD
Having a Divine Angelic form doesn't make you a Good Being, Appearance isn't everything.
I think it's to represent how he sees himself. He thinks that he is a god who should rule over everything, but in reality he is nothing more than a demon.
I mean look at Beowulf the lightbeast he possesses the power of light but he looks like a complete monster.
mundus statue looks like thanatos from gow
You know interestingly enough there is actually a contrast between Mundus and Thanatos from God Of War, Mundus has a "Divine" facade as evidenced when you see the bright throne room that houses the statue that He resides in whereas Thanatos does not try and hide His true nature, with Him what you see is what you get
Beating this boss with stick drift is a whole other world of painful
R.i.p Malee Island
6:41 Dragon appear!
His name is puff
Can i ask what difficulty this is on? Been trying to get this finished for hours now on the standard difficulty and im using the same loadout; whenever i try to DT rush him at the start i get him to maybe a third health and he destroys the platform im on, im getting clapped and very angy about how hard im getting repeatedly clapped
19:21 The right nickname and not legendary devil hunter like it mentioned in DMC V
