    • @konnyvans
      @konnyvans 4 года назад +48

      I think it’s more clever then the original. It’s as well okay, but it wasn’t that good. In DmC they tried to show the connection to real world, the struggle, changing and suffering. Dante changed throughout the game from careless rebelión to the one that is ready to protect humans and consider himself as one, put other people’s priorities above his own. After the damage was done when the Lilith was killed he doesn’t want to go further cuz people are dying, but Vergil says like “it’s too late” and Dante knows he can’t say no anymore, since otherwise those who died already will die in vain. So, he goes for it knowing that there will be incredible damage and loss, then when he gets betrayed his loosing his mind of anger and asking “who am I?” Is thinking who could’ve done something like that, almost killing his own brother. It was indeed a beautiful change, doubt and struggle, his understanding that he belongs to the world and can make a change since he can switch between limbo and real world. In original Dante sees his brother and he’s almost like “whatever”, and yeah, in the first game he really gets it closely to the heart, but he doesn’t change, even in the last game he acts the same (since it’s pretty much a fan service), but DmC tried to get somewhere with a story, different design and story telling. It was really good but fans only wanted “the same thing”, which is sad

      @@konnyvans I think the Best friends LP summed up the issue with this game, it isn't a BAD game but its a bad dmc game because it basically shits on the fans of the original which unfortunately was the fanbase they're trying to get to. DMC isn't FIFA or COD where theres a guaranteed audience even if its a terrible game they had to win that dmc crowd and they just shat over them which is why so many turned on it. Even i got to admit if this game didn't have the dmc label i might have liked it but I didn't like the characters portrayal, except for Mundus he was pretty cool

    • @Nothing-of2pm
      @Nothing-of2pm 3 года назад +13

      @@konnyvans The issue with DmC is that it's incoherent, and certain things don't add up. It's all quite random, like Vergil's betrayal. Dante's random mindset and change of heart despite not caring about anyone but Kat but then he proclaims to be the defender of humanity, (cue helicopters because that means everything is safe again) the usage of Mundus as a whole was poorly done compared to the original DmC concept which was supposed to have him torture Dante as a child, leading to a more developed storyline than Dante randomly engaging Mundus at the end. Mundus was supposed to actually be more important than a simple plot device. The level design is amazing. The OST is fantastic. Gameplay is even decent and lit. But the story brings it down heavy. There's nothing worth investing in besides a story that's worst than it's original concept. Vergil was supposed to play a way bigger part and moreso. And the whole, "who am I" thing just doesn't even make sense, considering Dante never had a moral dilemma with himself prior to this, and there's absolutely no reason why Vergil and Dante couldn't of just talked about this. It turns into a blood kill match out of nowhere with almost no context other than, "We want them to fight, because DMC3 has Vergil vs Dante so we'll do it too. Dante good, vergil bad" it's not done wisely, it's half baked. Especially the whole, "I loved you brother" all happened in about 3 minutes of them being the best of buds. It's just like wtf happened and it ruins the immersion. It feels rushed. Ofc, relationships can end that fast but if you're trying to develop a story, that's the worst way to do it because there's no context that adds anything of worth or nothing to build upon. The final boss fight feels like an optional boss fight that became mandatory. Vergil killing Lilith's child was so poorly done that they even added in a scene in the definitive edition to try and add a justifiable reason behind it, but all Vergil said was, "I had to" and Dante said, "look at all the innocents you killed" Mind you, Dante didn't care about anyone but Kat prior so that's hypocritical. It's just a game that's amazing but also brings itself down in numerous ways. Dante's personality is also incoherent here and just doesn't make sense. It's like they were stuck between dev ideas and added them each into every other mission. He also just comes off as an ass, and isn't exactly charming which isn't too bad but it's not really likable in the long run. It's just smug. Compared to his original idea of him being a dark, comedic and PTSD having character like the trailer showed in 2010. 2013's design of Dante came off really bland, asshole like and it felt like he just always confused. They seemingly also wanted to try and make Vergil modern which bit them in the ass because all he does is hacking sequences, he rarely does anything that adds anything to his character and undermines Vergil quite a bit compared to his original badass demeanor. He comes off as a overbearing, cocky intelligent asshole who can't do anything but hack stuff. The way Vergil pulled out numerous skills was also annoying, mind you it's because of the fact that he wanted to hide his identity ofc but look at the way Gliver (Vergil took up the identity of Gliver, a mercenary persona in the original DMC Novel) was done in the novel. He wasn't just useless, he was a great fighter and never had to reveal his skills, he was just purely intelligent and applied that to earning the trust of everyone around him without giving up his identity. He was a perfect representation of what Vergil could've been here. It would've also made everything much more engaging. Vergil in the DLC has terrible reasons for also becoming full on evil, bringing issues such as feeling lower than Dante, something we never see occur in the main game so it feels random. Same with Eva liking Dante more but unlike the original entries, there was no context as to why he felt this way. Same with Kat liking Dante more. It's all so random and makes Vergil feel more confusing than engaging and relatable. It's not as though they built on anything. They simply just pulled these things out of nowhere in order to try and force the plot together, and pretty much force Vergil to be evil. It wasn't a smooth transition it was blatantly underwhelming. Everything else besides the story is amazing. Part of this is the fault of Capcom who wanted a more Capcomesique DMC title without it being exactly the same. Ninja theory had to completely change their design to fit that want and in that, sacrificed a lot of good things as a result. Making a half finished game such as DmC. It had no self identity and was torn between two worlds of story and design and came out to feel unsatisfying but enjoyable. A sad result because there was a lot of potential. People were quick to hate on the 2010 version for not being like DMC but it wasn't trying to be DMC, it was unique and interesting and provided a lot more insight than the entry we received. And that's the big difference between what could've been, and what was. People complained about this, but they don't understand we got this half baked version because of the very thing you mentioned. Not being able to take off their nostalgia glasses and see that the 2010 version wasn't that bad and offered something new. Oh and Kat was decent but even then, she had way more character in the original concept. Nonetheless. DmC is amazing and deserves more credit, it just isn't that engaging. It's gameplay elements make it amazing. Not the game itself. The idea of making Vergil and Dante half-demon and half-angel too sacrifice the fact that Dante and Vergil struggled with their humanity and eliminates the core message. Instead, they could've done a similar thing and use it to build upon the story, with the struggle b/angel and demon tendencies stemming from their heritage. Or perhaps even, make two different DT's, etc but we got none of that.

    I find it interesting how video games throw around references to a character with "limitless power" like this one does with Mundus, but the moment the player has to actually face the final boss directly, they (Ninja Theory) completely fails to realize what it really means for a character to be all powerful.
    This final boss doesn't even come close to coming across as all powerful.

      djcreeps121 Perhaps, but I think the fight could have worked with Mundus in his city destruction form had Ninja Theory conceptualized the fight better.
      I mean the fight starts off somewhat promising and intensely atmospheric with each of Mundus's punches flattening a skyscraper but the moment Dante stands his ground and starts fighting him, each of his attacks does zero damage to the building Dante is on. I could go on but I'll spare you.

Because the virgil boss fight at the end was sorta un expected. Its a phycological thing they play on yout with this boss fight. They hype it up to make it awesome but not enough leaving you un satisfied with your defeat untill u come to see the actual final boss which is everything you would expect. This one is also a more believable villan.
    That said compared to fighting Pluto whilst flying through space, dodging meteors, lightning, giant rocks and a clusterfuck of laser projectiles and laserbeams to super epic music AS Sparda himself. This boss fight falls a little short.
    Not to mention the fact that everything above is only the first of 3 stages.

    For alot of people who think Mundus and Lilith didn't deserve to die and that the Vergil in the original games was more honorable than his reboot counterpart, I say differently, here's why:
    Mundus was corrupt, ruthless, and despicable to the point where he would murder or enslave humanity and was willing to kill women and children to get what he wanted, as well as engage in enslaving other people. I don't blame Vergil at all for killing Mundus or shooting Lilith dead. Also, had Vergil spared Lilith, the demon spawn would have probably grown to become worse, if not more dangerous, than Mundus ever could be.
    Finally, while the original Vergil was shown to be honorable, that didn't also mean the guy was not above being ruthless. In the third game, Vergil once killed Arkham and Beowulf, especially when the latter was already crippled by Dante. Vergil also showed that he was willing to resort to tactics like fratricide and summoning a colossal demon tower (likely endangering other humans in the city) to get what he wanted. Considering the guy is basically a Griffith/Femto expy, I wouldn't be surprised.

    I still don't get the hate on this game storywise. Like, yea, gameplay was sometimes shitty at some aspects but story wasn't as bad as people say, most people being mad at the story I saw were mad that a remake is a remake. Also Vergil's "betreyal", I don't see it as a betreyal. Mundus even in this video said already that humans before he arrived we're bringing war and destruction to one another and he brought prosperity. Mundus at some level was right, the only thing that made him a bad guy was treating man kind like ants. Worse than him, to be controlled, and if some died it wasn't an issue. Vergil wanted to rule, so the man kind could be free but undere his rule, like change from a dictator to a strict parent. Vergil had to fight Dante because what would happen if Dante won? Humans would go back to their old ways of savagery? Exploitation? Corruption? And to Vergil's nightmares Dante did won, so now there's a power vacuum that will be filled by a ruthless dictator because the only people that actually knew what was going on are either on a exile or don't want to rule because they just god darn love anarchy and don't think of the consequences. Vergil wasn't a villain, neither was Dante. They just had different views on the whole mankind thing, so when people say "Vergil going bad is so random" are right and wrong. It was random, but because you see it as Vergil going bad guy, when he didn't change at all, and just decided to put his potential people, their prosperity and safety above his brother when he didn't want to help him in his goal.

    This Mundus defeated DMC's reboot Sparda. Mundus in the original rule over time and space, is really different. Dante sends him back to the hell after he obtained his father's powers (and Trish's supply). Do you remember that?
    DMC 1 Dante is so much powerful that it is even unfair to compare him to his new rebooted form.
